You're Blocked!

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Those of you reading this who do social media know how discouraged and hurt you can be when you are blocked. I have been blocked now for over two years by a girl who used to be a close sister like friend.  Some are blocked by those who don't like their politics or views on life. I am victim of that as well by a few college sorority sisters. Anyway point being blocking and shunning hurt. I basically have had a couple years to absorb the hurt and now am pretty much healed but maybe you are experiencing some form of rejection in your own life right now.
All I can say is to hang on to hope. Don't bug people, just pray for them. One sweet very close friend renewed her friendship with me last summer and turns out it wasn't me causing the problem. Aren't you glad God puts up with us warts and all? I sure am. He doesn't care about our affiliations, political party, college we attended or didn't attend, social status, the way we dress, the car we drive. He just simply LOVES us , period!  Let that soak in.
Try as best you can to let go of hurt and pain you may be dealing with. Get into the Bible. Get the Bible on CD and immerse yourself in the word. Our mind has to get under control and your thoughts have to be focused on things above not problems here if you expect to gain victory.

PRAYER: Lord you are so good. I am thankful you don't turn us away. Thank you for your love for me even when I don't act like I love you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

T Minus Ten Seconds And Counting!

You need to be patient, in order to do the will of God and receive what he promised. Hebrews 10:36
Countdowns are a part of life. Besides the NASA space launches, how many who are parents have caught yourself uttering "you have to the count of ten to give that toy back to your brother" or something similar? We have countdowns till vacation starts, waiting till an upcoming marriage, baby to be born, or graduation. Yes we count down and try to be patient in the process.

Waiting is not real fun and in modern America we are  used to getting instant  everything. Life doesn't work that way nor does prayer work that way. Part of the process of waiting is for your own good to train you to be more Christlike. Giving things instantly does not teach anything.

What is it you are waiting anxiously for today? A child's or spouse's salvation, healing, a job, to be forgiven by someone, a promotion at work? God has your back. He hears your prayers. Keep on believing and trusting and try to be still in the process.

PRAYER: Lord you are good and your mercies endure forever. Oh Lord God I look to you to help me be still. Help me not get impatient. Strengthen my heart to do your will. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hurry Up, Will You!

Whoever is patient has great understanding,
but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.
Proverbs 14:29

In my travels, occasionally I might encounter a delayed flight due to a host of reasons. The most recent was on a trip between Dallas and Nashville as it was announced a flight attendant was sick and a new one was on the way. Disgruntled passengers sitting next to me in the waiting area were so perturbed.

What does anger do or impatience? It won't change the situation. Sometimes a delay can be a good thing. In defense of the upset person next to me she might have been flying to an event she was going to miss.

Try to go with the flow in life. Parents be the example and teach your children this essential life skill. Display a good attitude regardless of what is swirling around you.

PRAYER: Life can present many opportunities to get angry or impatient. Help me when I am tempted to explode to be still. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Inside Counts

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7

How quick are we to judge by appearances. Birth defects, scars, ragged clothing, skin color, religious attire, team shirts. So many things can cause you to look down upon another person. That is not your job. Your job is to show love regardless of the outside 'package'.

Judgment is easy to do but must cease in the life of a believer. If you catch yourself starting to think something negative about someone just remember that God loves them too. Instead try to find ways to build up others.

Focus on good and look for goodness in all people. Don't let outside appearances distract you from the person inside.

PRAYER: Forgive me if I have ever been guilty of judging others. It is not my place. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Slow Down and Chill Out

Take control of what I say, O LORD, and guard my lips. Psalm 141:3

Probably most of my female readers may be more outwardly emotional than men so this devotion may speak to you in a different way. Recently at Atlanta Bread I got the idea for this title off their cold drink cups. Indeed we need to learn to slow down and to chill out, right moms, and oh yeah, dads too and those without children. Let's all be on guard.

I have opened my mouth more times than I care to remember and said something I regretted later usually done in haste without the 24 hour rule suggested by a dear friend. Many times our emotions can run rampant and then the mouth runs off and out comes words which never should have been uttered. Man the devil loves impatience and impulsiveness cause he uses it to wreck relationships. First remember we can't fix anyone or change their heart. That is job of the Holy Spirit. We are wasting our breath.

Right here and right now, purpose in your heart that you will NOT allow any thing to be said if there is a remote chance you know it will backfire. This requires slowing down, chilling out, and yes thinking. A tall order for some, but hey aren't those relationships worth it? I know mine are.

PRAYER: Lord I am so thankful again and again when you forgive me for all the stupid stuff I have allowed to come out of my mouth. Help me learn to think and learn to keep certain things unsaid. In Jesus' name. Amen.

When Life Hurts

The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2
Sometimes life can just hurt. You may be cut out if a will, rejected by a friend, unwelcome by a family member, thrown under the carpet by a spouse, verbally abused.
My life has hurt at times and I am sure yours has as well. It may hurt now. I am not sure what it is you are going through but God does care. Try to not dwell on the negative or you may catch yourself in a public place or in your office crying for no explained reason. You can't control other people only the Holy Spirit can. Save your energy.
Your job is to keep the faith, keep believing and above all keep praying. In times of pain and heartache the enemy can really trip you up. Beat him at his game by not dwelling on your pain.

PRAYER: Father God when things in life go crazy and stuff is turning out like I hoped I run to you. You say 'be still my child' and how true that is. Thanks for your comfort. In Jesus' name. Amen 🙏.

Rush, Rush, Rush! Why?

What do people gain from all their labors at which they toil under the sun? Ecclesiastes 1:3
Here in America we as a society seem to be on a proverbial treadmill. Almost to the point that if you aren't busy you feel guilty or worthless. Why? Why allow schedules and all free time to be taken up? What is wrong with being still? Nothing! Then parents start rushing their poor little ones all over the place and the cycle continues.

Besides today's verse is another good verse found in Psalm 46:10 that says "Be STILL and know that I am God." But can you? Slowing down and backing off has to be intentional. It is not necessary to fill up every empty slot on your calendar. Often times when that happens time with God is the first thing to suffer.

Might I suggest even for those of you who work full time, to take a few hours alone with God or maybe even just a walk without your phone on your lunch hour. Spend time talking to God. Maybe sit in a park and read your Bible. Learn to develop the ability to rest.

PRAYER: I am so grateful for the times I can just sit and be still. Sort of like a frantic hummingbird who occasionally will sit and rest his wings I too need that time of peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Life Without Apps

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Hey there's an app for that! What was life like before the convenience of the mobile phone app? Well we communicated more face to face for one.

Imagine if you can a day free from cellular devices. It might be a good exercise to do.  Also a challenge for parents is taking away your teens 'device' at bedtime. Set time to be a family without your phones clutched to you like a life saving device. Some need to admit they have a problem.

The cell phone does have many fine Christian apps to use and even several Bible apps but still give yourself a break and try to set a app free/cell phone free day. Use the day to talk to God. Also to experience quietness and no neck pain from looking down. Enjoy talking face to face. Now go make someone's day!

PRAYER: Father I thank you for times of peace and quiet. I thank you for my modern devices but help me not oversaturate myself with technology. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Row Your Boat, Don't Rock It

"The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” Exodus 14:14

I can't remember where I heard the phrase I am using for today's title but I liked it. Makes sense. When you are in a literal boat you want to keep it straight ahead and not purposely be rocking it causing the possibility of someone falling overboard.

Don't  be a trouble maker agitating situations or causing flare ups with friends. When someone mistreats you keep rowing. Don't rock the boat and fling them overboard. When you are overlooked for promotion, keep rowing. You get the idea.

Life will have some waves and churning water and you need to go with the flow but don't seek to make waves.  Learn to relax and let go of stuff and row on.

PRAYER: Father I want to be an example for you and don't want to be a troublemaker rocking boats. Help me to mind my own business and stay on course. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Fearful?

So do not  fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

What are you afraid of? Roller coasters, snakes, bees, heights, cancer, whitewater rafting, flying, the future, dying. There is a saying to 'face your fear' and just do something you normally wouldn't. I know of a family getting ready to go in a shark cage. Whew. Whatever it is that is making you afraid let God have your fears.

Fears in life boil down to one thing many times and that is getting hurt or death. Death is going to happen to everyone who ever breathed. It is not to be feared. What good is staying pre occupied with the inevitable going to do? Try giving your fears totally to the Lord. Keep your mind focused on Him and off stuff that scares you.

PRAYER: Oh Father God I thank you that in you I can have perfect peace from the storms of life raging around me. Help me as I seek to stay focused on my blessings. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Shhhhhh! Seriously.

But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.Out of the same mouth proceed  blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. JAMES 3:8-10

I will be the first to admit I have a mouth problem. Do you too? I am talking about not thinking before you open your mouth and say something stupid you can't take back.  Your tongue has the power for bad or good. It can cause so much destruction if you aren't careful. Your mouth should be filled with kindness and goodness not judgment and condemnation.

If you have to vent why not journal and then you won't hurt someone in the process. All stages of life require different types of self control when it comes to your mouth.  Better to be silent than to be a fool and have regrets.

Be still, be using your head, and keep the love of Jesus inside of you at all times and you will be less likely to mess up.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the miracle of being able to talk and sing and declare your praises with the little tongue in my mouth. Help me think before I open it so as to not dig any hole deeper. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Spiritual Warfare.....A Real Thing!

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. 2 Corinthians 10:4
When you are trying to do the Lord's work and seeking Him with your whole heart often times the enemy loves to play with you. I have had devotions 'disappear'. I have had 'feelings' I should not go to a prayer group or Bible study probably only to keep me from getting a blessing from them. The enemy loves to attack us and tries to defeat us.

When my writing recently 'vanished' of course I was frustrated and many would call it coincidental because maybe they don't want to admit there is warfare with demonic spirits going on. This time I stood strong and realized I had to rewrite a few. To God be the Glory!

So realize in fact we are in a real battle of good versus evil,  demons versus God. The spirits  of hatred you saw prior to the catastrophic hurricanes were straight from the pit of hell. Pray for those people. Don't hate them. Lean in to God. Trust Him. Don't allow Satan to get you flustered. You have the victory!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus you are indeed mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. I pray for those who churches don't teach about this. Protect them and guide them into truth. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Come Together

Above all clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14
How vividly those who were alive and over the age of 5, remember September 11,2001. A day of shock, surprise, terror, madness, grief, disbelief, and unity. In our pain as we watched the unbelievable unfold on our TV screens live, we as a nation also came together. American flags became the hot ticket and were sold out in many places.

Similar to the storms in our South right now and forest fires out West, when tragedies occur, Americans unite no matter what their backgrounds or beliefs. The ugliness in the country and world seems to be put on the back burner as we work together for the good of mankind.

Love is a word that is thrown around a good deal but when we have sincere love for others the world is a better place. Why does it take bad stuff to bring out the best in people. Stop what you are doing and say a prayer today for the survivors and family members of those killed in 911 crashes. And keep your heart full of love not letting hatred take up residence.

PRAYER: Oh Lord Jesus I know indeed you work through bad stuff to work your glory. We pray for those who don't know you personally to come to know you even in the midst of their pain. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Kill Those Roots

See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many. Hebrews 12:15

For anyone who has ever had a garden you know how difficult it is to control those nasty weeds. They have to be uprooted completely and the roots killed or they just keep returning.

That is like sin. It gets a hold of you and starts to choke your love, kindness, grace and everything else out of you. You have to kill that bitter root of sin be it hate, envy, lust, lying, gossip, and many more or you become a bitter person and not full of Jesus' love.

So think about those nasty horrible roots in your garden and think about sin and its consequences. Don't allow yourself to be taken captive by evil and choked by sin. So start uprooting now!

PRAYER: Lord how easy it is to compromise on what I know is right and little by little to fall away from my walk with you. Give me spiritual eyes to see evil and run from it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Bitter?

All bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander must be removed from you, along with all malice. Ephesians 4:31

There are so many things in life that can cause you to become bitter. Cut out of a close family members will. Jilted by a long time spouse. Not being able to conceive when you so desperately want a baby. Being passed over for promotion. These are just examples.

You can see by the verse above that there is no place for bitterness in the life of a believer. It can eat you alive.  "But what can I do it hurts so bad" may be a reaction to the incident making you lose sleep at night and hate certain people.

Clothe yourself with love daily. Don't just say you are a believer but pick up that Bible that is no doubt somewhere in your home and start reading it. Might I suggest today to read the book of Colossians in the New Testament. It is filled with things to keep your mind focused above which you need to do when you are blind sided by a crisis in your life.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I know being angry and upset is not the solution to my issues in life. I will not allow Satan to keep me making excuses for why I don't get into the Bible for help and peace. In Jesus name. Amen.

Worry Wart Central.....Mom-ville

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

No matter how hard you try sometimes the worry monster rears its' ugly head. Thing is worry does nothing to change a situation so why do it? Moms sort of feel it is our 'right' to worry since well, we're moms,  but oh contraire. God is the one to shoulder your burdens. Satan is the one who puts the bad thoughts into your head in the first place.

I got caught up into this trap recently and almost couldn't sleep. That is what worry does. It steals your peace. Might I suggest to avoid the news and you will be on the road to less stress and soon may be able to nip worry in the bud.

If you find yourself worrying open up your Bible and start reading the Psalms. Soon your mind will be filled with thoughts to help you relax.

PRAYER: Forgive me when I worry Lord because it is like saying I don't trust you to handle things. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Come Home

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:20
After we returned from a recent trip, our outdoor barn cat decided to either hide, run away, get eaten by a coyote, swooped up by a hawk, or just not ready to come back. This reminded me of how many of us 'hide' from God or just don't think being sold out to Jesus is 'their thing'.
God continually pursues us. Just like me hollering for my cat, God is wanting you to come back. Some of you may need to come back or perhaps know people close to you who once were committed to Jesus but then their 'roots' got a little bit entangled with worldly pleasures and things of the Lord took a back seat or maybe weren't even in a seat at all. Jesus says "Come home child!" to all of us who have wandered at one time or another. The Sabbath day to those who are wandering is a day for their own pleasure and pursuits. Pursuing God is not in their equation.
If you are that person or know of a person continue to pray God keeps knocking on their heart saying "seek me first child".
PRAYER: Lord Jesus you are desperate for our love and affection and devotion yet so many wander away from the faith and the world and works of the flesh choke you out. Convict those people in my life who may be strangled by worldly pursuits to run back to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Taking The Bait

I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. Romans 7:21

On the internet many times pop up gossip type news stories turn up to reel you in to something totally different. You take the bait and poof it is not what you thought. Sounds like the enemy with people right?

So many times the dangling carrot, as I will call it, is put out there to tempt you into doing something you know is wrong. Getting caught up with the wrong crowd and starting to act like them. Lying or cheating. And yes gossip is not from God.

You don't have to take the bait. Get your senses trained to recognize good from evil by studying and applying God's word.

PRAYER: So many times I have slipped into sin and I know I disappointed you. I will resist the enemy using your words and he will have to flee. In Jesus name. Amen.

In The Midst Of It All

“He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end” Luke 1:33
Craziness has invaded our country here in the US of A. I look at it as a spiritual attack due to our founding on Christian principles. Evil is rampant in many as they are not following God's ways. Newsflash: God is still in charge!
How do you combat this hatred and evil? First read the Bible and pray. Next turn off the TV news that is often stoking the fire and feeding your mind wrong messages. Thirdly, start loving and being kind.
God indeed has a plan and his ways are better than our ways. Don't become a discouraged and lethargic Christian but look up and keep praising your Maker.
PRAYER: Oh Lord you hate evil and Satan is behind the evil. Turn men's hearts to you. Bring us revival. In Jesus' name. Amen.

What Hospital Do You Go To?

On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick."Matthew 9:12

Does today's title grab your attention? It is meant to. By this I mean where is it you go get well and 'treated' on Sunday? Where is your 'church home' in other words?

Church is not mean to be some formality you do just because you were raised that way but it is to be a 'treatment center' of sorts for your spiritual health. It is where you go get your 'medicine' each week to help you get 'healing' throughout the week.

But just like following the doctor's prescribed orders for getting well, are you following 'Doctor Jesus' orders by taking your medicine daily? Your medicine in this case is your quiet time and reading and studying God's word. That is the only way to stay healthy.

PRAYER: I don't want or choose to be sickly and want to be strong in you Lord. My medicine sits right there on a table in my home yet how often I neglect it and treat it like a decoration. Forgive me Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stop Pushing, Start Praying

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.Jeremiah 29:11

Bible teacher Joyce Meyer often says you can not be a person's Holy Spirit Junior or in other words, that is not our job. I am grateful. Makes me tired thinking of it.

If you are like me when it comes to prayer there are times you may become tired of waiting and try to take matters into your own hands. Didn't work out too well for Abraham now did it? (See Genesis 17 and 18). When we mess with God's plans and don't trust Him it is not a good outcome.

What are you waiting for today? Are you having difficulty waiting? Part of God's Plan is to be able to have patience and praise Him in the midst of storms and waiting. Trust and obey and let God be glorified!

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I have been pushy and impatient. I know your plans are good ones. Help me be able to trust. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Got Your Ears On Good Buddy

Whoever has ears, let them hear. Matthew 11:15
A long time before the internet, world wide web, pagers and any other fancy communication devices there were CB Radios. Still in use by over the road truck drivers today, the way you would see if anyone was 'out there' was to say "Got your ears on good buddy" and wait for a response.
Do you have your 'spiritual ears' on? Do you listen for God's 'voice'? It is hard to 'hear' if your life is out of control, overly busy, and has social media drowning it out. You have to be intentional about 'listening'.
Put your mobile device down and go sit some where and get alone with God. Set an appointment with Him daily like you would your doctor, friend for lunch, or hairdresser. The more you read his word the more he 'speaks' to you.
PRAYER: Help me listen for your gentle whispers and turn away from things that distract me from getting closer to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Do You Need God? You Betcha!

Trust in the
Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.Psalm 37:3-5

There is a saying I heard once that there was a God shaped hole in all of us only He could fill and until you came to realize that you could just not walk in peace, fulfillment, and joy. God did create us and we are here to worship and serve Him.

Many people choose to not believe in God, believe in Him but not get so fanatical, or just outright hate Him. The movie 'God's Not Dead' was totally awesome. If you did not see it when it was in theaters please rent it. It pertained to modern day struggles where atheists, agnostics, and Communists are trying to remove any thing related to God and the Bible from a society that was founded using His word to form it's foundations and laws.

Most reading this are probably believers but maybe some feel religion is enough or their church membership but what about a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. God is love. Do you have love in your heart? Really? Ponder that today. Love you friends!

PRAYER: My heart aches for those mean spirited haters who cause turmoil and hate goodness and truth. I pray for many who would try to erase you from society. They don't know it but you aren't going anywhere. In Jesus name. Amen.

Wowsers!

"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, and the son of man that You visit him?" Psalm 8:3-4

This past August 21st was a day like none other to stand in awe of the absolute glory of God our creator. The total eclipse of the sun and some call it The American Eclipse. I was blessed to view it from the Totality zone and indeed words can't describe this two minute spectacle.

Take some time to just read the Psalms and praise God for all His mighty works. To think of His creation and how the planets just hang in the sky and the stars twinkle. The big ball of fire called the Sun that keeps us warm and gives us light. On this Eclipse day temperatures in the totality zone dropped by ten degrees. My son said he even heard crickets chirping. God is so good.

Take time to be in awe of creation. Don't worship creation and creatures, even the Bible says not to, but worship the creator, God Almighty, who spoke it all into being.

PRAYER:Oh Lord I am in awe of all you have done and made for us to enjoy. Thank you for the Eclipse show for it was a site like none other. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Love Demands Action

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.  It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.  Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

I know of a few people right now enduring dicey family and extended family situations and my heart aches when they share things with me. Obviously to protect them I can not go into details but sometimes when stuff happens you wonder "why me God" or "why is this happening"? Honestly I don't know and am puzzled on what is the right solution. How do you counsel or respond to someone with a deep ache or hurt in their heart?

In reading the verses for today whatever you may be going through stop and read this verse out loud and think what it means. Then ask yourself if you emulate what the verses are talking about. Sometimes it hurts to keep loving unconditionally but for healing it is necessary.

Keep praying, keep trusting, keep believing. There is a hope and a future for all those who love the Lord. Ask Him to show you what to do in whatever you are going through. Cry out to Him. He cares.

PRAYER: Life is tough at times and interaction with many people can be tricky. You have placed me here Lord to show love, not hate. Be kind, not rude. Give me supernatural ability and strength to know how to endure. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Joy, Joy, Joy, Joy Down In Your Heart

For his anger lasts only a moment,  but his favor lasts a lifetime;
weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. Psalm 30:5

Depending upon what is happening in your life right now you may or may not feel joyful. Did you know being joyful is actually a choice? Have you ever tried laughing just for the fun of it? I have heard it is supposed to be good for you. I recommend doing it in private and not a public place.

You can indeed have joy unspeakable. You can be filled to overflowing. Don't be whining and complaining about all the horrible stuff in your life but instead write down all the ways you are blessed and what you have to give thanks for. Sure life throws curve balls occasionally but many home runs as well.

Just like the children's song I used for my title, you can choose a childlike frame of mind and put on a happy face. Grey skies indeed are going to clear up. You just wait and see.

PRAYER: The Lord is the 'lifter' of our heads. When I feel down I know I can cry out to you for restoration of my joy. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A.R.K.

"But this is what I commanded them, saying, 'Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.' Jeremiah 7:23

I absolutely loved the movie 'Evan Almighty' starring Steve Carell, Morgan Freeman, and Lauren Graham released back in 2007. It was a modern day fantasy take of Noah's Ark where Carell's character, Evan, was tasked by God to build an ark. Not going to spoil it but try to rent it on Netflix if you can.

The ark referred to in this movie was not just a literal ark, which he did build, but also an acronym for 'Acts of Random kindness'. Interesting isn't it? These 'acts' could be ways to show love to those you encounter daily. Be on the lookout for hurting people.

Does God speak to and through people still today? Does He have people build arks? Not necessarily but He is still in the business of doing His work through people. Perhaps you are one He wants to work through.

PRAYER: Thank you for the ways you work through people today to get your work on Earth done. Help me look for ways myself to show love beyond the call of duty. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Tarnished Relationships

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
Do you know what silver or silver plate look like when they get tarnished?  In order to keep them shiny you have to polish them and give them the proper care and handling. Sort of like a relationship.

Whether a friendship, marriage, dating, or relatives such as siblings, in laws, parents, you have to do your part to keep it 'shining'. I know of people who have had tarnish on their relationship with various family members for quite some time. But as the saying goes, "it takes two to tango" so don't think that it is the other person who is all bad. Are you doing your part to help, forget, forgive, let go,and move on?  Maybe things aren't fair. That hurts. Try your best to not speak poorly no matter how bad the other person is.  Maybe Christian counseling is deemed necessary in extreme cases.

The verse today speaks of the enemy coming to kill, steal, and destroy. We could add distort the truth as well. The enemy of course is Satan and he gets his jollies destroying families, friendships, and marriages and loves it even more when those hurt can't sincerely forgive.  Some may be exceptionally hard to love and pray for but please try to do it. Perhaps it is even a one sided attempt but still do your best. Just keep praying and polishing with those prayers.

PRAYER: Mean people are ever present in the world Lord and many of them need a good dose of love and prayer to turn them around. Help me to show love to those I may not necessarily agree with or humanly love. Give me the ability to love with your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Overgrown

But the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Mark 4:19

As I look out at what is the near end of our seasonal garden it is becoming overgrown with weeds. Earlier in the season I maintained it and it was not so bad. Now it looks out of control.

A life that gets cluttered and too busy can start to resemble my overgrown 'weed patch' with thorns and thistles. If you don't get your life in control by prioritizing certain things and putting God first you can easily choke out the work and word of God and allow Satan to enter your peaceful 'garden plot'.

Does your 'garden' need to be tended to? Are you allowing weeds to choke God out of your life? What do you need to do today to start 'blooming' for Him again?

PRAYER: Lord help me to seek you daily. Give me the ability to say no to too many things that would squeeze you out of my life. Help me to look around for those who need help in their 'gardens' and spread your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

But Wait!! That's Not All!!

But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. Philippians
 3:20

You have all probably seen the those TV infomercials trying to sell something like cutlery, mops, vacuums, facial cream and the list goes on and the announcer in a cheery voice will say towards the end of the commercial "But wait! That's not all!" In advertising this a tactic to reel you in and maybe get you to buy something you don't need just because you get one more for free.

For Christians do you realize we too have a Heavenly Father who is saying in effect "Wait child! That's not all!" meaning there is way more to being a believer than just a 'taste' of Him on Sunday or a nibble here or there. God wants you to live a victorious fulfilled life here on Earth and not just attend a church. There is so very much more.

Dive into the Bible. Find a good Christian radio station. Attend a dynamic growing church where you can't wait for Sunday to roll around. Bloom where you are 'planted' and shine the love of Jesus wherever you go. Don't allow the enemy to have you stuck in a denominational pit just because your family was there. Go where you feel the Spirit of God moving and the truth indeed will set you free. Now that is the best 'free' thing ever!

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for your wonderful gift of eternal life. I know my time is so temporary here on Earth and you have a wonderful place prepared for those who give their heart to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Been There, Done That, Got The Tee Shirt

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 15:57
Many of you may be familiar with the phrase which I chose for today's title. In other words it is a way to let others know you have walked in their shoes or gone through something as well. For my husband it was cancer twice.
What have you gone through in life and can say you were victorious and have that coveted hypothetical tee shirt? Whenever you go through things God miraculously can give you strength and you even learn things. Even if the thing you go through turns out humanly wrong such as in an earthly death, if you don't turn your back totally on God He can grant you the ability to help others going through trials.

God can and will be your ever present help in times of trouble as it says in Psalm 46:1 if only you will invite Him into your life and heart.

PRAYER: I need you every day Lord through ups and downs and Unexplainable things that go on in life. Open my heart to listen to when you are speaking to me. Help me shut out wrong voices that tend to drag me away from you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Turn Anger Into Prayer

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. JAMES 1:19-20
It is an understatement to say there are a heap of angry people right now in the US of A. Angry pro Nazi Racist lawless protestors are creating havoc, murdering, scheming, burning the American flag and our main stream media fuels the fire right on their side to sort of be a propaganda machine.  First, turn OFF the news lest you cave in and get angry right along with these angry souls. Next start praying, not hating.

Those reading this from The United States who were born here or immigrated here legally, know what we have is a miracle from God and we are unique as a nation. Our history is just that, history, and many scenarios combined to get us where we are today.

If you truly love the Lord you are supposed to love your fellow man even the mean despicable ones who commit these atrocious acts and also those enemies of our land terrorizing us due to our way of life. Today make a point to pray, read the word of God, turn off the TV, and lift our nation and its's leaders up in persistent prayer.

PRAYER: Father we need you oh we need you. The violent protestors need you. Bring revival to this land and to the hearts of those who hate. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be A Person Of Truth

Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, But those who deal faithfully are His delight. Proverbs 12:22

In this day and age it is so common place to tell lies. Almost to the point you don't know what or who to believe. This practice is detestable to God.

Everyone has probably lied at one point or another but know now it should not be occurring at all. Even people on witness stands with their hand on the Bible have lied and as well as presidents taking the oath of office on a Bible. It is utterly shameful.

What little lies are in your life? There is no such thing as a white lie. Somehow when you say it was just a 'white lie' it seems to seem less like a lie but it is still a LIE. Start today to purge all things from your life that are less than truthful. Tell the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth so help you God.

PRAYER: Lord I have lied in the past and was ashamed of myself. I always want to be a person of truth, integrity, and good character. Help me never be tempted to lie. In Jesus' name. Amen.

NOTE: There was a Hollywood movie out entitled 'The Good Lie' which at first I did not want to see just because of the title but it was a true story about Sudanese siblings resettling in the United States and one brother let his brother use his passport because they looked alike. His brother said "But that is a lie" to which he responded "but it is a good lie" trying to give his brother a chance for a better life. It is a 2014 release starring Reese Witherspoon. Not a Christian film, PG 13.

Are You Eclipsed?

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2

Well the big day is finally upon us. Today for the first time in 99 years there will be a total eclipse. Special viewing glasses are being sold. The populace is being warned what to do to protect their eyes and their camera's. Many doomsday people may come out of woodwork warning it is the end of the world.

There is a greater darkness than this less than three minute 'outage' that will occur and that is a lifetime of darkness for those who reject Jesus. There is dark, meaning Satan and his demons, and light, meaning God and His angels. You are either on one side or the other.

Today while you experience this phenomena think about where you stand with Jesus and how you can spread his 'light' to a lost world full of darkness.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for the marvel of your creation and this eclipse today. To you be all the glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Demolition Duty

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

Most of you have probably been past construction sites where demolition is occurring. Here in my area the most recent demolition was a gigantic mall to make way for a new modern complex. Dump truck loads of debris had to be hauled off somewhere.

Did you realize sometimes in your mind it is necessary to get out the 'wrecking ball' so to speak,  and clear out wrong thinking in your head? Satan likes to get into your thought life and in the book of Revelation he is called "the accuser of the brethren". If Satan can captivate you through wrong thinking he has won half the battle. Don't let him!

Take captive wrong thinking by counter acting it with positive thinking and speaking the word of God out loud. Don't dwell on past wrong scenarios in your life. Leave the past in the past. Start tuning up your mind with scripture each and every day. Capture all those wrong thoughts and destroy them and do it NOW!

PRAYER: Lord I know it is essential to take wrong thinking captive. I need discipline to do this each day. Help me maybe do a fast from stinking thinking as Joyce Meyer refers to it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Sticky Paper

He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. Hebrews 11:25
I bought the neatest wasp trap at a local big box store and am on my third one. It looks like a bush and the wasps little brains probably think it is and fly right into it and voila never leave again. Stuck tight buzzing for help.
I thought about how the enticement of sin is sort of like that sticky wasp trap. You may be lured into a trap of seemingly innocent sin that could affect your life for a long time. Sin is not without consequences even though forgiveness and grace are available why fall into it in the first place.
If you hang around good Christian friends, read your Bible daily, attend Sunday worship, and stay away from bad junk you are less likely to stumble. Recognize evil and run hard and fast from it.
PRAYER: Lord I need your strength to not get caught up with wrong people or in sinful behavior. Help me Lord and forgive me for the times I have gone astray. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Church Love Needs To Make It Outside The Walls

How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! Psalm 133:1
On Sunday at my church and probably yours as well, it is wonderful to gather and praise and worship the Lord. A good message is preached and now believers are stoked up for the rest of the week. But does that good feeling make it outside the walls of the church? Does the message 'stick' or is it just a formality to go to church?  It shouldn't be.
Our church encourages note taking and even if yours doesn't maybe it would be a good practice to jot a few things down. Believers come together in unity and perhaps many are there who do not believe or have never accepted Christ as their savior.
Don't just attend church then forget everything and become a different unchanged person the rest of the week. Practice what is preached. Love, hope, joy, forgiveness, kindness, mercy, grace, generosity. Let your life reflect the love of Christ. Don't allow Satan to turn you into someone hateful and unforgiving the rest of the week. This may even involve loving people who can't stand you. Jesus did all the time. Now go out and act like Christ or why even bother attending on Sunday?
PRAYER: There was a child's song that said "Lord I want to be a Christian in my heart, in my heart" and I truly want to act Christlike 24/7 in this hurting messed up world. Give me your strength to do so. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Keep Shining The Light....People Need It!

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

Even though the world you live in may be content,  peaceful, financially stable, and comfortable many people do not experience those things. Their world may be full of hurt, disappointment, pain, bad news, homelessness, sickness. This world needs people to be God's hand and feet and shine for Him.

Are you shining or has your light dimmed or gone out completely? What do you need to do to get it to shine brightly again? First you might start with insuring you are spending time alone with the Lord daily. Facebook may let you find out all about your buddies but it sure is not a tool of joy necessarily and it is a huge time waster. How often have you spent your entire morning checking Facebook and no time in the word? Ouch.

To shine light to have to fuel yourself so God's light comes out of you. You learn how to be kind, generous, joyful, patient, caring, loving, empathetic, and forgiving by studying the word of God. Sunday is not enough. Start today to shine Jesus love everywhere you go.

PRAYER: I want to be used to bring brightness into someone's life who is walking in darkness or just hurting. Help me remember to not neglect my daily time with you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Do You See The Light?

The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. Isaiah 9:2

If you have not done so already do yourself a favor and rent the DVD 'The Case For Christ'!  In this true story, Chicago Tribune reporter Lee Strobel, who is a self proclaimed atheist, comes to terms with his beliefs after his wife accepts Christ. In trying to disprove and discredit her new found faith something miraculous happens. Go get this film today!

Many walk in darkness and do not accept or know the truth. You probably know some of these lost souls. The enemy of the cross of Christ, Satan, has blinded them and deceived them into believing lies. Therefore they walk in darkness whether they think they are or not. Many of these who are wandering in darkness just cannot be reasoned with. It is only the Holy Spirit who can break through the darkness and lies.

If you encounter those who claim to be agnostic or atheists pray for them. Love them. Jesus loved those who did not love or agree with Him. Don't get preachy and self righteous. Shine the light of Jesus and  pray for opportunities to share.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for those times in life you bring non believers across my path. Even believers who are being deceived by Satan. Help me show love and remember to pray for light to break through the darkness. In Jesus' name. Amen.

My 'Sign' Is Jesus!

All the counsel you have received has only worn you out! Let your astrologers come forward, those stargazers who make predictions month by month, let them save you from what is coming upon you. Surely they are like stubble; the fire will burn them up. They cannot even save themselves from the power of the flame. These are not coals for warmth; this is not a fire to sit by. Isaiah 37:13-14

I am always taken aback when a believer who is a Christian asks me what my horoscope sign is. I don't beat around the bush,I just say I don't believe in horoscopes which to me borderlines on fortune telling. If you are a believer you don't look to the stars to tell you what kind of person you are but you look to God who made you fearfully and wonderfully with no help from a horoscope to define your personality.

To some this tradition of going by a star sign may be rooted in some family tradition or cultural issue your never gave much thought to but I am asking you to think about it now! Why does a believer need to read a horoscope to tell them what kind of day they will have? The Bible is the only book you should get guidance from in my humble opinion.

God made you in His image and created you in a very unique way. Everyone born in a certain month is NOT a certain way and believing that is really from demonic spirits.  Now if I have stepped on some toes I am sorry but really think about what exactly it is and why you dabble in it.  Every person is unique and God has distinct purposes for you no matter what month you were born in. Do a study yourself on what the Bible says about horoscopes and then see if the Spirit isn't speaking to you to cast that practice from your life if are following one.

PRAYER: My hope is in you Lord and in your word. Period. I cast off any works of darkness that may appear innocent but really have nothing to do with my walk with the Lord. Give me strength to always choose the things of the Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Is Taking Too Long!

Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.I cried out to him with my mouth; his praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; Psalm 66:16-18

What is it you have been believing God for and are just to the point of giving up? It is hard to understand what goes on 'behind the scenes' as God orchestrates the answer to your heartfelt prayer.

Know this my friend, if you are following God and doing what pleases Him He hears you. He hears your cries, your anguish, your desperation. But also His ways are beyond knowing. You need to be patient and I often think that is one of the reasons things don't happen instantly in our deliberate manner. You may have a way you want God to deliver this answer but it is not his way. Even when things look beyond hope, hope exists.

While you wait why not try praising Him. There is power in praise. Give thanks to Him for all He has done and will do.

PRAYER: Oh Lord I love you. I know you care for me and the person I lift to you in prayer. Miracles are needed but you are the God of second chances and miracles so my hope and trust still remains in you while I wait. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be The Bigger Person

If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. Proverbs 25:21

You know when people are having conflict or someone is gossiping or saying mean and hate filled things about others you know what you have to do? Be the bigger person and show your good character by setting an example in word and deed. Don't chime in and lower yourself to the ugly level of bashing and putting down others.

My parents used to say "If you can't say something good don't say anything at all." And how very wise and true that statement is. Your words reflect your character or lack thereof. When your mouth opens up don't justify being mean but simply pray that nothing comes out that doesn't edify others.

If you struggle in this area of being the 'bigger person' God is willing and able to help. Problems with people? Give them to God then stop talking about them. As a matter of fact try praying for them. Yes I said pray for them. Now get going and be that bigger person.

PRAYER: I want the things I say to buildup and not tear others down. Forgive me I ever feel anyone is justified to be treated poorly. You want me to be kind to everyone no matter what. Help me Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Are You Hungry For God?

"Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:” Amos 8:11

When it is time to eat either breakfast, lunch, or supper most of us are ready and sometimes eat more than our bodies need. But when it comes to feasting on the Word of God are you hungry? The Beatitudes, found in Matthew chapter 5, states in verse 6, "blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled."

Can you honestly say you and hungry for hearing and reading God's word or has Satan made your love for it cold? The only way to grow to be more Christlike is to 'hide' God's word in your heart as it says in Psalm 119:11 "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."

The prophecy in the key verse above should make you do something to prepare for this 'famine'. Imagine not being able to grab a Bible anytime you wanted and get comfort and strength. Now is the time to be memorizing key verses and not treating it just like another book in your library. Sadly some people can't even find theirs. Hope that does not describe you. If you are more excited about reading a secular magazine than spending time in God's word, better check your spiritual heartbeat. Just saying.

PRAYER: I am so thankful to live in a country where I am free to own Bibles, go to church, listen to Christian radio and watch Christian television. I intend to make sure I don't neglect your word and will pray for family members who have become lethargic and complacent spiritually. In Jesus' name. Amen.

People Problems?

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, Matthew 5:44
Do you allow people so much control over you that the bottom drops out when a friend walks out? Friendships have uncertainties cause you never know what is inside someone's head and can't control them.
Choose today to not allow broken friendships or ugliness to derail you. Stay on the track of peace, joy, love, grace, forgiveness. Jesus had people problems so He understands rejection and that type of pain but He did not allow it to control Him or let it fester.
Today you have to make a decision to move ahead beyond the pain. Pray for those who hurt you or misuse you. As hard as it is, you have to shake it off. Believe me I know how hard it is as I have had this problem more times than I care to remember. Don't seek revenge or wish evil on these people who hurt you but sincerely lift them up in prayer.
PRAYER: Father it is so hard to be rejected but then I don't need to tell you that. Oh Lord help me love despite hatred that may be encircling my life. Help me to maintain joy despite my circumstances. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Not An Accident

Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases. Psalms  115:3
'God things' or whatever you want to call them, how many times has a person called right when you were thinking of them or you avoided an accident when you got a stop light that frustrated you. All kinds of examples exist. I have had people tell me they were 'thinking' of me just at a certain point in life when I needed prayer. You can probably start a little journal and keep a list of your 'God things'. The 'world' may call it luck or chance but I beg to differ.
Life has twists and turns, good things and not so good things. Many people come across our path, some for a reason or a season. Some of these cases are in the 'God thing' category. I have a long time friend who I just happened to meet at the same time her family was registering at the school counselor office moving to the town from Phoenix where we also moved from. Small world, maybe? God thing, for sure.
Start paying attention to the little moments in your life many of which are really big moments. God uses all sorts of people and situations in your spiritual journey so don't write them off and stay tuned for your next 'God thing' as it may be right around the corner.
PRAYER: Thanks for the times you have spoken to me through people, events, or situations. With you nothing is impossible. Thank you how you work in my life on a daily basis. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Spiritual DNA/Leaving A Legacy

A good person leaves an inheritance for their children’s children,
but a sinner’s wealth is stored up for the righteous. Proverbs 13:22

What is more important to you? Leaving an inheritance to your children and grandchildren, which is scriptural by the way, or insuring a spiritual legacy is left behind? Both are VERY crucial.

When you raise children, often times the 'God equation' is forgotten. Even many who don't darken the door of a church somehow make it there for infant baptism which is the tradition in many denominations and families. Although a nice family occasion and 'religious ritual' even for those who do it, it is still the parents responsibility to raise their child to love the Lord and walk with Him daily. My husband was baptized as an infant and a year ago decided he wanted a 'believer's baptism'. Now as an adult who loved the Lord it meant something and His heart truly was changed.

Point being, whether a baby or adult baptism, don't neglect raising your child in a church where later on he or she will become hungry for the Word of God. There is a saying, "Going into church won't make you into a Christian any more than going into McDonalds will make you into a hamburger." Ponder that statement for a while. Don't be afraid to change denominations or churches if you feel lethargic and stale. Walking with Jesus is supposed to make you feel alive. Raise those little ones to be excited about Him too.

PRAYER: Lord I want to be a Christian in my heart, in my heart. These words are in a familiar child's worship song and they ring true. Help me remember to sing songs of praise around the little ones in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
