Battlefields

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:10-11

When you get dressed each day do you put on your armor? Yes you heard me correctly, your armor. Those items used in battle for protection. Each day whether you realize it or not you enter a major battlefield controlled by forces of evil and darkness. Your job is to shine light and to protect yourself.

Take a moment and read Ephesians Chapter 6:10-18 in the New Testament. In there you read exactly what is this armor of God and how do you put it on daily. The word of God is your most important part as it serves as a your sword to keep those fiery flames darts from Satan from hitting you. You combat them by reading and quoting scripture. To quote it you have to know it so to do this you study it. Which is more important to you, Facebook or His book.

When you get dressed today don't forget your most important pieces of clothing that being your spiritual armor.

PRAYER: The battlefield I enter daily does not have to bring me fear for your word goes with me and strengthens me to face any corruption, deceit, onslaught or evil. Thanks for my armor. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Debris Field

But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. 2 Corinthians 11:3

Have you ever been driving at the posted speed limit on the freeway and all of a sudden a truck loses a retread tire, an unknown object appears in your lane, or something just causes you to have to swerve and unfortunately sometimes hit the object doing either minor or major damage to your vehicle. It is one of the moments that if no one is take away by ambulance from injuries,  you just sigh.

There is the 'debris' of sin that can pop up and catch you unaware especially if you are 'asleep at the wheel' no pun intended. An opportunity for a college student to make the wrong choice morally and succumb to sin. Maybe it the temptation to cheat on something. Perhaps breaking a rule at your office.Threatening divorce to your spouse. Lying about something. Many 'debris fields' are confronting Christians each and every day.

To be able to avoid debris fields of sin in life stay in the word of God. Today for instance is the 29th of the month so try reading Psalm 29 and then Proverbs 29. Pray for God to open his truths to you and transform your thinking.

PRAYER: I want to avoid debris fields of sin in my life. Help me to run the other way when the opportunity to sin presents itself. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Purify My Heart Lord

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.        Psalm 51:10

Many of us could stand a good 'heart transplant'. In other words you may have allowed things to creep in to your heart that tend to make you treat others poorly, think wrong thoughts, hold ill will, and a host of other things. What is needed is a pure heart set apart to be Holy and love the Lord and things on the Lord.

You all know the story of King David committing adultery and then murder because of Bathsheba. Out of this really bad  stuff, flows the Psalms which is full of rich teaching, truth, and wisdom for all. Your heart can deceive you and can let things in that should not be there.

The Psalm above is something everyone should recite allot. If your heart has caused you to do wicked things it is time for a new heart renewed by Jesus. Often when you are at your lowest point is when God grabs your attention. Where are you at today friend?

PRAYER: I want to be set apart to serve you Lord. Help me as I seek to guard my heart from things that would be impure or unholy. I choose to discipline myself for righteousness sake. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Love Those Who Hate You

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44
Social media has created a monster of sorts. I admire those friends of mine who have not felt the urge to get on it for whatever reason. It has created a new modern phenomena,  that being superficial friendships and the dreaded monster of being unliked or unfriended. Ouch, those words sting don't they?
Don't put too much stock in Facebook first of all. To be a friend you have to be a friend and that means spending time with your friends and making time for them. There may be those who have been your friend in real life but now don't like you anymore. I can't imagine not liking people cause I was taught to love and be kind. Not everyone is the same. Sometimes deep rooted problems can cause reactions to different people as well so don't  take everything real hard if it happens to you.

Your job as a follower of Jesus is to love and not hate. That means the vile politician, the rude store clerk, the difficult co worker, the aloof family member, the divisive inlaws, even those who curse you. Pray for these people. Maybe something has hurt a person that has created the monster they have become. Continue to pray God would help you love them, period!

PRAYER: Your desire is for me to be a representative of you and your kingdom. I can't do that gossiping, backbiting, hating, and judging. Create in me a renewed heart full of love and compassion. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Evil Amongst Us

But evil people and impostors will go from bad to worse as they deceive others and are themselves deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13
America was founded as an experiment of sorts. A unique and God fearing nation with our Constitution to provide our self governance that people who are citizens must follow. No dictators, tyrants, or regimes but fair governing. This is a country people have yearned to come to and immigrants came here legally for decades. But alas evil men and women have crept in over the years and corrupted what the original intent of this land was for and its' laws.
The United States laws were founded upon the Bible and Biblical principles. Satan has never liked this so his minions, as I will call them, who were deceived into doing his work,  have slid in under the radar and have taken a great concept and tried to pervert it and destroy this land and its' God fearing people and laws and instead bring in Communism and socialism which are completely opposite of a democracy.
There is a saying that "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing" and that has never been more true than right now. Remember what the Nazi's did to Germany as no one really spoke up and eventually many Jews were destroyed in gas chambers? Look around you at terrorism right in our own country because we allow people into this country whose holy book says to kill us. When is this nation going to come to its' senses? It is time for you not to fear but to pray and do your part soon by voting and also by standing for the truth. Don't know what it is? Read the Bible.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus I know in the end times scripture says perilous times will come. It is prophecy. But we need not be lazy and just let it happen when we can pray and speak out for Liberty. Thanks for blessing this free nation. May you keep your protective hand over it and root out evil. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Ten Cents From A Dollar

You are under a curse—your whole nation—because you are robbing me.Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it. Malachi 3:9-10
What do you get if you take ten cents from a dollar?  90 cents of course. That seems like very little money to be able to sacrifice each week yet how many neglect this important principal from God's word of tithing or giving ten percent of your earnings to the Lord? This money is not yours because God has given you the ability to earn it. The gift should not be  the last of the money after you pay your bills but the first thing.
Tithing should be a joy and not  to be done because you feel like have to. In 2 Corinthians 9:7 it reads "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." Do you consider yourself a cheerful giver or do you feel you may border on being selfish with God?
Do you realize all the money you have been blessed with is really God's? So many people do not understand the principal of tithing and therefore do not participate in it. Even well meaning Christians can 'rob' God of His tithe. Why not purpose in your heart that you will start to be a cheerful giver and do it faithfully and see what happens? Do it from your heart.

PRAYER: I know your word says where my treasure is there will be my heart and I certainly would rather my treasure be stored in Heaven and not consumed on things that don't last. Help me to start being a faithful tither but to not announce it to everyone when I do. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stay Alert

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8
My car is equipped with many safety features one of which is if I have left my lane of traffic numerous times and get the warning 'lane departure' eventually another warning light comes on that says "Stay Alert". Perfect warning not just for driving on busy roads in heavy, traffic but in life as well.
How many of you could use a good sign that tells you to watch out for the enemy Satan for he really is out to get you? Many live life oblivious to the attacks of the enemy and are honed in more to denominational traditions of man. Hopefully that does not describe you. Do you love the Lord more or your particular denomination? It is something to ponder.
My friend, Satan is roaming and seeking to destroy. He hates this Christian nation and what we stand for and has had many attacks on our faith in the past several years through those who despise our way of life. Stay alert my friend and stay in the word of God.
PRAYER:Lord your word brings me great delight. Help me make sure I am reminded and convicted of the need to spend time in the Bible daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Letting The Enemy In

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. " Matthew 6:19-21

A few nights ago I accidentally left our garage door open all night. When I discovered this early the following morning I was concerned about little critters such as possums or skunks that may have wandered in more than I was thieves. Although both possibilities existed, the animals getting in bothered me more since we live in the country.

In your life do you allow thieves to 'break in' and loot and plunder? You may buy many valuable things then lock them up in your homes, storage units, your cars, storage sheds, and bank lock boxes. Earthly possessions are great but the main treasure to store up that can't be stolen is the word of God in your heart. By doing this daily you have the ability to handle many things that happen in life to include a real physical break in should it occur.

Where indeed is your life treasure?

PRAYER: Fear can grip me Lord when I think my home has been robbed. I need to insure that my real treasure is you in my heart. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Do Your Part

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.Proverbs 15:1

Relationships of all kinds take work. I enjoy going to weddings and listening to the vows spoken mostly heart felt and sincere. How many people in marriages end up letting the flesh control them years after those Christian vows were spoken? If so shame on us for letting Satan in and kicking God out.

Many who hurt others whether in a marriage or a friend relationship often are stubborn and don't realize it. If you have suffered hurt from ugly words don't fight back but simply pray for the person. There may be something deeper going on. Love is patient, love is kind, love doesn't keep a record of wrongs.

If you are the recipient of someone else's anger or unforgiving spirit just keep praying for a breakthrough. God hears you. Above all don't lash out with your own angry words. Stand firm, be strong, and love unconditionally.

PRAYER: Father I thank you for helping me stay patient on life through many situations that come my way. When it involves people I thank you for the extra measure you have provided me to stay calm. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Do You Follow Jesus This Close?

He answered, "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'" Luke 10:27

My title was actually a bumper sticker I saw which sort of made me smile. It was the drivers way of saying "Do you have to tailgate me?" I found it humorous so decided to build today's writing on this theme.

How close in fact do you follow Jesus? Church goer only? Church member but don't attend? Some Christian bumper stickers and billboards may be a bit over the top but indeed probably the person who created it had the right intent. The Holy Spirit has to convict an individual of their need for Him as shoving Jesus down someone's throat tends to backfire often with dire consequences.

But really how close do you follow Jesus? The saying is if you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you? Something to think about.

PRAYER: I don't want to be guilty of not loving you and serving you Lord. I know in the times we are in people are drifting away as the government almost says certain vile things are okay. Lord I cling to you and your word. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Are You Still Sucking Your Thumb?

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. 1 Peter 2:2

Do you ever see a toddler still sucking their thumb or even a young elementary school child? This habit started as an infant and was allowed to continue until, the child is growing up still sticking his or her thumb in their mouth for security. Unless this gets under control the child remains a child in many ways.

Many adults who are Christians may be still 'sticking their spiritual thumbs' in their mouths. In other words maybe you know the "now I lay me down to sleep prayer", hear Psalm 23 routinely read at funerals, know John 3:16 but that is about the extent of it. To grow up in Christ and become mature and not keep sucking your thumb you have to dig deeper and go beyond the basics. It is not the rabbi, priest, or pastors job to spoon feed you but when you leave church you have to do your part to get off the pacifier.

First make sure you have asked Jesus to be Lord and savior. When I became born again in 1975 I craved reading the word. It became my life blood so to speak. Prior to this I had gone to church and done all the right things but was not excited about Jesus. So how about it? Time to mature in Christ? Start reading the book of John in New Testament and see how your life changes.

PRAYER: I choose to go beyond just the basic Bible knowledge of my childhood years. I love your word Lord and I want to feed myself and not need a baby bottle or my thumb anymore. I will not allow Satan to make me complacent about things of the Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Peace.....Gotta Love It!

You will keep in  perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

As I sat recently in a customer waiting area of my car dealership with four male customers, the area remained quiet. Yes there was a television but not one of the men turned it on. It was probably so odd that no noise was coming from the waiting area that the customer service guy popped his head in and said "Feel free to turn on the television" yet it remained silent. I loved it! On this day it was sunny with clear skies out the window of the room I was in. Just a calmness prevailed.

Do you allow yourself moments of peace to think, unwind, relax and just be still? There are those whose lives may be so chaotic they feel there is no time to just sit and be still. I know some whose jobs keep them hustling and they feel there is no extra time to just not do anything. You almost have to just schedule it. Granted that may be hard in some lines of work but try never the less. Moms may have to lock themselves in their closet to have quiet.

Try this if you can. Maybe just go to a park if it is not blazing hot out and park your locked car in the shade, keep the radio off, turn off your phone, and just be still. Maybe take your Bible and read some Psalms. Perhaps your favorite non alcoholic cold beverage. The more you try to do this the easier it may become. As for me, it is nearing time for me to do my DAWG day or 'Day Alone With God' where you go somewhere you feel safe and sit on a park bench, picnic table, by a stream, etc and for a couple hours just have time with Jesus. Give it a try.

PRAYER: I thank you for those moments in life where I can just sit and rest and know you are God. Help me not think I always need distractions of noise but learn to get away with you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Who Do You Serve?

Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. Romans 8:8

The word serve could also be to follow, emulate, or idolize. Who do you listen to? Do you serve your clubs, groups, hobbies, or yourself? Or do you place others needs above your own? Lots of questions to think about.

Self and the world are on the throne of many people. Think about what things are in your thoughts. Sure you may work full time and be consumed with that but it doesn't mean you choose it over God. Wherever and whatever you do should be as a representative of the Lord Jesus. People should not change to suit one thing they do then totally be different on Sunday. God is jealous for your love and your devotion.
So look at your list of things you do daily. Is serving God by serving others anywhere in that list? Maybe if not it is time to reorder a few things. Just saying.

PRAYER: Thanks Lord for shining your light through me to other people. I choose to not be selfish. Open my eyes to others needs and not just my own. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Your Anchor

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain. Hebrews 6:19

For those of you who have ever seen a shopping center go out of business it often happens when the anchor store goes away. The big store, such as a grocery, changes locations or closes and consequently the smaller businesses usually can't stay afloat.

Similar to this 'anchor store' your anchor should be Jesus Christ. He should be what keeps you stable in all areas of life. If you allow Him to anchor you solidly through reading the Word and praying, life goes much better. But if you release Him as your anchor you start to 'drift' away similar to a boat not anchored.

Where are you at today? Anchored or drifting?

PRAYER: My hope is in you Lord. Thanks for being my anchor. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Not Deplorable....But Love God

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Romans 12:3

A certain American politician recently called another American politicians' supporters 'deplorable' which was extremely bigoted, hateful, and uncalled for. Many Christians were lumped into that 'deplorable' category by this individual. Extremely sad and very hurtful. Because a person holds certain things in high regard and believes a certain way, they are not tolerated by the one who would scream 'deplorable'.

You who love the Lord are no where near deplorable. You are a child  of the most High God. You may make mistakes yes but God forgives you if you ask. Those who ridicule you and don't understand you need prayer and need to be shown love. Hatred of others is not the answer but rather pity for those who are so mean for no apparent valid reason.

Whatever you do don't fight back at those who are ugly to you. As hard as it may be, try to pray for them. People did not understand Jesus and mocked Him and ultimately hung Him to die on a cross. Stand firm in your beliefs and pray for those who don't love the Lord or His people to come to a saving knowledge of Him.

PRAYER: In this political climate I find myself  in here in America, help me as I seek stand for the truth no matter what. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Keep Loving

Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10

Do you ever catch yourself saying you don't like someone or someone drives you nuts? Basically less than kind terms about people you know or maybe a total stranger! I try my best to not let bad things about people come out of my mouth. Maybe someone hurt you and you feel justified saying ugly stuff about them, mostly behind their back. There really isn't a justification for a follower of Christ.

If you deal with speaking ugly about people whether friend or stranger try this. Say to yourself, "I love that person. I love that person too." Basically love them through Jesus with His love. Humanly we may get so angry but allow God inside to transform you. Let Him pave the way to a kinder and gentler you.

Before you know it you may truly love your enemies. Give it a try!

PRAYER: I know I am an imperfect person. I know also it is very important to control my mouth as well as my thoughts. Help what I say and think bring glory to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Fighting The Battle

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.2 Corinthians 10:4-5

I don't know what struggle you have, but one of mine is imaginations. The enemy knows this so he tries to attack me in this area. Sometimes I allow him to, instead of fighting back with scripture. We who are Christians should be aware we are in a battle for our very souls. To be able to get a brother or sister in Christ imagining things and trying to figure things out is a specialty of the enemy. If you feel this occurring stop what you are doing and tell Satan to leave you alone.

One example is that you think people are thinking something they are not. It is necessary to take every thought captive and focus on good things and not dwell on stuff that will make you start thinking wrong things. I am not saying this in a mentally ill sense but just the sheer area of controlling what your mind is allowed to dwell on.

Wake up daily and grab your Bible and saturate your mind with good thoughts. Tell Satan he is to leave you alone because you are a child of the King. Then go enjoy a peace filled day.

PRAYER: I choose this day to focus on things above and how I can add joy to someone's life around me. I cast down any wrong thinking. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Unforgiveness In Your Heart?

For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15
I say I have no unforgiveness but I was wounded in my heart by a former friend and sometimes feel like just snubbing her. Is that right? Certainly not. I know when feelings like that crop up I have to rebuke the enemy for even making me think ungodly thoughts and press on to a loving and kind attitude.
The verse today indicates we are to forgive. Think of Jesus being mocked, spat upon, stripped, lashed with whips, cursed at, yet what did he say? "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." It is easy to hate but much harder to show true love especially  when the recipient may not care about you at all.

Who do you need to forgive today? Sometimes a person may be unaware they ever hurt you but you still have to move on and let the healing begin.

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I have had wrong thoughts about people. Help me remember to always pray and continue to love even when that love is not returned. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Can Use Imperfect Things

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

On my journey to have my first book published I basically did it all alone except for the help of my  editor who edited the actual devotions. Because of this and me not being a tech wiz, there was an alignment problem on a few pages. Most people are okay with it and understand, but to get to the big companies or church bookstores,  if I even could, it has to be pretty much perfect.

I thought to myself how God can use things that the world says are messed up. For instance the child born with Downs Syndrome is beautiful in God's eyes and His creation, yet how many expectant parents would abort a child that was not quote unquote, perfect?Maybe a suspension from work taught you things you needed to know.
A medical set back maybe gave you time to regroup. You can probably think of things maybe in your own life that at first started out not so good but in the end God used them.

Wrong turns in life often end up part of God's plan. What is perfect anyway?  There is a plan for everything.

PRAYER: I thank you for the lessons I learn in every situation in life. You indeed are sovereign. I need not fret and stay thankful in ALL things. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Evil And Good

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:16-17

Today marks the 15th anniversary of the tragedy of the World Trade Center collapse, Pentagon tragedy, and Shanksville, PA. On that day pure evil people who did not like the United States or what we stand for did the unthinkable and flew commercial jets into both Tower 1 and Tower 2 then later into the side of the Pentagon and one failed attempt which was taken down by passengers crashed in a field near Shanksville, PA. Anyone who was alive older than 6 back then probably remembers this vividly. The images of survivors leaping from the World Trade Center towers won't leave us.

This occurred because of evil forces. As former President George W Bush used to call it, the "axis of evil" and he was right. Right now in our nation we have had any attacks on our own soil by ISIS and probably more to come until we start closing borders and allowing refugees into the country without proper security checks. We are a special nation founded on Christian principles and many people don't like this even those within our own country. Naturally enemies will strike.

What we can do is be alert, aware, and stay in an attitude of prayer. Don't cower in fearfulness because God is on the side of righteousness. Continue to pray for enemies who seek to destroy us some sad to say are in the government that is supposed to protect us. Lean on Jesus. You know who wins in the end.

PRAYER: I thank you for the gift of freedom. I know there is evil around us trying to take this away. You have blessed this land and for that I say thank you. Help me do my part to help keep this land free. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Obadiah. Say What?

See I will make you small among the nations; you will be utterly despised. Obadiah 2
Oh my goodness. What or who is Obadiah? It is a extremely short book in the Old Testament where Obadiah prophesies judgment against Edom for violence against Israel. Not a good idea to mess with God's chosen people. The outcome will never be good.
Take some time and read this book which is one tiny chapter. There is much insight into what happens when people get high and mighty and think they know better than God or don't need Him. Worse yet when we diss Jewish folks that is really a no no.

Take time each day and read one of these smaller chapters found in the latter part of the Old Testament. Ask God to open your mind to what He wants to reveal to you. Challenge yourself to learn about some of those minor prophets. Your life could be enriched by it.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for my freedom I enjoy in the United States to freely worship you and openly have a Bible out. I pray for those Christians who rarely pick up their Bible. May the Holy Spirit convict those I know like this of their need for studying your word. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Too Busy For God?

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2
Each day I bet you manage to do lots of things before you eventually depart from your home. Some may be checking Facebook posts, Twitter, Instagram, watching the morning news, reading the paper, but how much time do you allow for time for God, growing in Christ? Not asking to guilt you but to maybe have you change up your morning activities just a bit.
Do you make time to get together with special friends and family members? Then why not make sure you make a daily appointment with God. The news is normally bad. Many shows on television glorify celebrity. What does running to Facebook first thing do for you anyway? Lots of these little things can wait.
If Jesus is truly the number one priority in your life why not make sure what you do with your waking hours backs up that claim.
PRAYER: There is nothing wrong with social media Lord but give me the discipline to make sure you are first in my day before all these other time wasters and distractions. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stop And Breathe

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. Matthew 11:28-29

Computer crash, messed up nail polish after you just had a manicure, unexpected automobile expenses, flat tire, dryer broken, and on the list of things goes. Sometimes in life you just have to stop what you are doing and let things go. Take a breath. Things will eventually be  okay. Even the unthinkable tragedy of the loss of a child or baby is something that no one can understand or know what to say. God does care.

All the fretting and getting angry and upset over something isn't going to change the situation but instead remaining cool headed and just trying to be still. Stop, pray, relax. Try to let the situation go. There is no one that hasn't had something unexpected happen at an inopportune time. If it is a death then that is an immense game changer. How to go on from that? God can help.

Sit at God's feet. Let Him have your burdens, your frustrations, your harried moments, and yes your sadness.

PRAYER: When the unexplainable happens or simply those moments I don't have time to deal with help me be strong. I know my strength comes from you and you alone. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stop Your Worrying!

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3

For those of us in the United  States there is much to lose sleep over if you allow yourself to. You know God is in control yet you still can't stop fretting over bank failure, government tyranny, war,and natural disasters,to name but a few. In order to have peace you have to stop focusing on bad stuff. It has to be intentional.

You have probably heard no amount of worrying will change things and that is so true. Think about worry for a moment. You stay up at night losing sleep and for what reason? Something you can't even control. People in the United States are concerned now about the November elections. Once again the outcome won't be changed by one ounce of your worry.

Have you tried prayer? That should be a believers first option before all else. Your worrying does not do a thing but make you sick and make the devil happy. Make the devil mad and start praying instead then let it go.

PRAYER: I choose peace Lord. I know tests will come to see how I am dealing with things but help me remain calm under all circumstances and give you the glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Balloons, Blooms, And Bubbles

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” Psalm 19:1-4

There are three things that start with the letter B that can make people smile. Those three are the title of my devotion for today. Balloons no matter what your age are nice. Blooms of flowers are wonderful. And blowing bubbles may seem like a kid activity but try it sometime. Now for my male  readers I am not trying to exclude you but perhaps that special lady in your life may like some of these? Hmmm?
What brings your simple joy? A cool breeze. A child laughing. A smile. Watching ocean waves crashing against the shore. Life is to be celebrated even with the occasional bumps and bruises that occur. (Hey that's two more 'B'words.) start your day today by praising God for the good things in this life you enjoy giving Him the praise and glory.
PRAYER: I thank you Lord for the simple pleasures of life. Even when things happen I don't understand I know you are still on the throne. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Whistle While You Work

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23

I always like to say that he verse above should be every Christian's job description. If you are known around your office or wherever it is you work and constantly grumble and complain about junk what kind of an example does that set? There are those looking for work that would probably gladly take your job if qualified.

America has celebrated Labor Day since 1894 to honor workers in America. Started in actuality to celebrate Labor Unions now it is a time to celebrate working men and women. Today Labor Unions represent about 14% of the working population. Today it is more thought of as the end of summer holiday but yet it is in fact to celebrate those who work.

There is a verse in the Bible in 2 Thessalonians 3:10 that says "if a man does not work either then he should not eat" but today sadly there are those who are capable and able bodied and let  government take care of them. If you have a job be thankful and never take it for granted. God has blessed you. Give Him the praise and glory.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for my family members who work hard to help us have provisions. I thank you for all work to include even the unappreciated job of the stay home mom. I thank you for the ability to work and contribute to things in society. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Helping Others

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God . 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Almost everyone can come up with a name of a person who is truly needy or suffering in some way. A friend or family member with cancer. Perhaps someone who lost their job. A person going through a divorce. An individual mourning the loss of a loved one.

There are many people we cross paths with daily who may smile but may have serious needs and hurts in their lives hidden from others. There is the good intention of getting involved and helping someone but maybe you never get around to it. Even the simple gesture of a greeting card mailed to a person. An unexpected gift of encouragement. A kind word. A visit?

You may think you are not in the obvious position of encouragement like say someone in the medical profession who daily is in contact with hurt and pain, but no matter where you are and who you come into contact with there is a need to be met. God wants to use you to encouragement and spread hope.

PRAYER: Each day father make me aware of someone I know who needs to be uplifted. I pray for those persons right now serving you in foreign lands that you would strengthen and protect them daily as they are often in hostile environments. Use me to spread hope. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Onward Christian Soldier!

Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. Ephesians 6:16

Many reading this may be very familiar with the Christian hymn 'Onward Christian Soldier' where it says "marching into war". We are indeed daily marching into a battlefield. This world is not our home. We are strangers and aliens in this land and the enemy is wanting to take us out.

There is much evidence in our world today of the enemies attacks when it comes to killing Christians in foreign lands, ISIS attacks on our own soil, the taking of innocent life in the womb, uprising against police, and many other things.

When a soldier goes into battle he needs to be prepared and armed if you will. The proper equipment is worn to protect the soldier from the bullets fired by the enemy. Our preparation is the word of God. You read it daily to prepare your heart and be able to focus on taking out the enemy,  which in this case is Satan. Don't be fooled. As it says in 1 Peter 5:8 "Satan is roaming around like a raging lion seeking whom he may destroy." Be prepared to face the battles ahead.

PRAYER: Dear Lord I seek to always be prepared for daily war with Satan. I know he hates prayer and despises truth. He is a destroyer and divider. Well he can't have me or my family. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Dream Homes

However, as it is written: "What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived" -- the things God has prepared for those who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

Recently I was in the suburbs of Nashville, Tennessee where many country music stars reside. I am not sure whose homes I was passing but they sure were glamorous and huge. We are not to covet another's home or anything else and be content with what God has blessed us with and not jealous of others. These homes were more like small hotels and I did in fact ooh and ahh a bit while driving by. Mind you I am perfectly content in my own dwelling place.

Did you know that for those of us on our way to Heaven someday our heavenly mansion awaits us? The verse above indicates we can't even imagine what is in store for us. Life down here on Earth is so very temporary yet how many treat it like this is it? Sadly many do not have their mind on heavenly things and are so mesmerized by the things of man. Nothing can compare with what is to come.

Are you excited about Heaven? Are you letting your light shine and sharing Jesus when you have an opportunity? Don't live for just today because this Earth is going to pass away but Heaven is forever.

PRAYER: Thanks Lord for the beauty of this Earth and talents of the many humans who have made dwelling places down here that are stunning. I know though nothing compares to what is head. Help me remember that each day as I am out and  about to shine love on others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Coarse Jesting....Should We Or Shouldn't We?

Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.Ephesians 4:5

I often wonder how many people may lead dual lives. One for Sunday church and one the other 6 days. When it comes to rude, crude, filthy humor that is found in many mainstream movies today how many of us are bothered by it to the point we choose not to go or how many say "It is just a movie?".Something to think about.

What prompted me to write about this topic today was recently I happened upon a You Tube video of an actress who shall remain nameless who many associate with a Christian film out in the past two years. The video just surprised me so much that this lady would do it. But it is only acting right?? She was reading a children's book with the F word constantly in it. A children's book!

Search your heart and see if in fact you find nothing wrong with swearing and crude humor and maybe it is time for God to perform heart surgery. None of us are perfect for sure and there may be occasional slip ups but if you aren't bothered at all by some of this nastiness just ask yourself if you would say certain things if Jesus were with you cause He always is.

PRAYER: Lord God I know I am not perfect. I have said wrong words before or laughed at crude jokes. I know your desire is for purity in the inner man and for me to set an example for you. Help me to stay away from places that cause me to engage in bad junk. In Jesus' name. Amen.
