Thinking Right



For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7(KJV)

It is very important to think about what we think about. If you have nothing or very little to do, you might tend to start letting your mind wander into areas it has no business. Just as the words we say are crucial, so are our thought patterns. These both are areas Satan would love to torment you with. Don't even allow yourself to go there. 

To have a sound mind you have to be intentional in what you think or dwell on. This requires your mind be fed a good 'diet' of purity, peace, wholesomeness, and love. The worse place to find these things is on television and the best place is the word of God. 

Maybe you have heard the phrase "garbage in, garbage out" referring to the mind. Images and thoughts can get in there which can only lead to your downfall. Don't allow that to happen. Turn off bad news, violent shows and movies, hearing cursing and replace it with a dose or two of God's word. Start by reading John chapter 1. Be blessed. 

PRAYER: I am very thankful that I have a way to keep my mind focused and that is to feed it from the Bible. Give me discipline to get things out of my life that keep my mind in turmoil. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Jesus Freak? Be Proud Of It!


If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when He comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38

I heard about a radio talk show host calling the famous Duck Dynasty family 'Jesus Freaks'. Because you love the Lord and weave Him into your conversation and everyday life someone makes wisecracks. Pray for that person. 

The titles are derogatory and are also 'Religious', 'Bible thumper', and I am sure you know others. Some may even be from family members or those who don't understand what it really means to love the Lord. Don't get me wrong and get all puffed up that a believer is better. We are to be here to help win the lost to Christ or those who have wandered away for whatever reason, not to be self righteous. 

When you go about your day shine for Jesus. If you are visiting friends or family who don't share your passion you can still do your Bible reading or watch church online. Just keep praying that God would draw all men unto Him and some of those may be people very close to you.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for the opportunity to worship on Sunday but also the opportunity to own a Bible and live where I am free to carry it openly without arrest. I pray for the lives of those who maybe have become complacent and wandered away from their 'first love'. Help me share Christ in my daily actions. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Temporary Living


        
The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.  1 John 2:17

This earth is our very temporary home. We are passing through hopefully on a journey to heaven. It is easy to maybe think we are just here by some accident, but when you were born, God had a purpose for you. Many deny Him and others who don't,  just say they are Christian but do little else. Pick their church usually in a denomination they grew up in. Go to church. Join the church. Get baptized. But no real change or love for Christ in many cases. 

 Are you a Christian in name only? How is that working out for you? It is the Holy Spirit who draws men unto Him. We can not scream at someone and tell them they are going to hell because often that does not work. There is a verse in Romans 2:4 that says "it is kindness that leads to repentance." Maybe you were in church all your life but it is just something you are used to doing on Sunday and nothing more. My friend, this Earth is just temporary. We are not given the date we will die so it is important to know if this was the day that you knew you were going to be in Heaven with Jesus. Some denominations, that shall remain nameless, like to think they are the only ones. Much false doctrine is out there. Pray for wisdom to discern and know the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. 

This Earth may be awesome in so many ways but let me tell you Heaven will leave you breathless. Don't get so attached because it is only temporary. Do what you can for the Lord while you are here. 

PRAY: I am not on the Earth just for myself. Help me to show love and help point people to you by what I say and do. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stop Judging


But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

It is so easy to pass judgment on others. Examples would be those with body piercing, tattoos, funny hair, overweight, deformed and you can probably add to the list. Just because a person on the outside isn't like you doesn't make them bad or less than desirable. 

God is the ultimate judge. The Holy Spirit convicts each person individually of things in their life that may be wrong. Having a different appearance doesn't mean someone does not love Jesus. 

Let's each one focus on ourselves and getting closer to God and less on judgment and labeling. Sounds like a great plan for 2016. Give it a try. 

PRAYER: I love you Jesus and I love people. Not everyone is alike. Forgive me if I have ever been critical of another because of their physical appearance. My job is to love not condemn. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Tossed To And Fro


"I the LORD do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed. Malachi 3:6
Mankind may keep changing everything and making its' own laws and rules but God never changes. His word never is in error. 

God is unchanging. He is faithful, true, just, and merciful. When we are tossed about in our mind by what is acceptable or right or wrong,  we know there is a guidebook all men and women should abide by. It is called The Holy Bible. The best selling book of all time. 
Are you confused by all the societal changes? Things that were wrong are being called right and evil wicked people may seem to prosper? Relax my friend. God is in control. 

PRAYER: Lord you are good and your word is true. It doesn't change because a court says it has to. Help me be faithful to what is in the Bible and lift those out of darkness who are being led down wrong path. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Rejoicing And The 'Like' Button


Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.Romans 12:15
Welcome to 2016 the year of the selfie obsessed generation and those needing affirmation by being 'liked'. Sure who doesn't like to see 'like' next to a valuable post on their Facebook page. 
Be on guard though that you do not allow your 'likes' to define you or get addicted to them. 

One way to use 'like' in a positive affirming way is to rejoice with good news, congratulate someone, or share your support in a heartache. You can use it as a tool to rejoice with others good news. Don't let others good news make you envious but allow God to help you be happy for them.

The main thing is know that it only matters that God likes you. He loves you and you don't need any thing else. 

PRAYER: Help me Lord to not focus on Facebook but to focus on the good news in your book The Bible. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Esteem




For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them. Psalm 139:13-16

There is allot of talk about good self esteem. Feeling good about yourself in other words. But even a better type of esteem is 'God' esteem, or doing what is right in the eyes of God. 

Self esteem in 2016 can be shaken up if people take the 'like' thing on Facebook too seriously. Our worth and value is not from how many people 'like' us, but it is in knowing the savior of the world loves us and died so that we might have life. The times maybe you are tempted to check Facebook constantly for your worth, why not go to His Book, the Bible, and read the book of John in the New Testament. God loves you 'warts and all". 

My challenge I set forth to you today is to spend more time in The Bible reading about God's love and less worrying about stuff on social media. 

PRAYER: Thanks for the opportunity to have social media and to keep up with friends and family but help me to not be obsessed with it that I spend more time on it than meditation on your word and in prayer. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Loose Lips

The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. Proverbs 15:2

There is a saying in the US Navy, "Loose Lips Sink Ships". In our Moms in Prayer group we are reminded "What's Prayed In The Group Stays In The Group". Indeed misspoken words can end up getting people into allot of trouble they never saw coming. Recently Senator Ted Cruz campaigning for the Republican nomination for President of the United States let words slip during a televised debate that I think he could have stated in a different way with a different outcome. Instead when he said them he set off a firestorm with folks who live in Manhattan and New York City lumping them all together. He probably regretted his use of words but they were out there and the media, not friendly to conservatives normally, jumped on them. 

We are human and humans goof up. That is why it is important to pray for wisdom and to try to think before you speak, text, email, or post on social media. You might be out for coffee with a friend and catch yourself in a gossip trap. It is important to ask yourself if what you are about to say will bless the listener and do anything good. If not probably don't go there in the first place. 

Oh it is indeed true what is says in James 3 about "no man can tame the tongue"! If only we could how awesome it would be. Just be careful and be kind.

PRAYER: There have been times I said things I regretted and have angered someone or caused hurt feelings. Lord that is never my intent. Help me be careful with my mouth and use it for building up and not tearing down. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Miracle Is An Understatement!!


Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." Mark 10:27
So many people shy away from using the description 'miracle' when referring to something that can be explained no other way. I was watching a show on TV recently where two planes carrying 10 skydivers collided in midair. Amid flaming debris, miraculously everyone to include the two pilots, survived. One survivor said "it was beyond a miracle."
I must say it was refreshing to hear the word 'miracle' even uttered as usually a person interviewed says they were very lucky. There are indeed miracles still occurring today and no one can deny them no matter how hard they attempt to. Miracles can be little things or big dramatic events. I think of a child who was the sole survivor of an aircraft accident years ago and wonder what this person is doing today.
When you go about your day each day keep your eyes and ears open for miracles all around you. The birth of a baby and how it forms in the mother's womb is a miracle no one can deny.  God is still working. Aren't you glad? I am. 

PRAYER: I thank you for small and large miracles you perform each and every day. I thank you for the miracle of creation first and foremost. Seeing miracles or hearing about them brings renewed hope and for that I am grateful. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Rudy, Rudy, Rudy!!

The 1993 released Hollywood movie 'Rudy',  starring actor Sean Astin, is a true story about a young man with a passion to go to University of Notre Dame and play football. He was little, from a blue collar family and the odds were against him. If you get a chance rent the DVD or buy it on Amazon. This young man was tenacious in his goal and dream. He did not quit when the odds were against him.

Is there something you have your mind set on to do but someone has been trying to convince you there is no hope or chance? Remember there is always hope no matter what! Go after your dreams and keep your eyes on the prize. I heard once a saying that said "If God brings you to it, He'll get you through it.' Wish I knew who to quote on that one. 

Keep trying. Don't give up. Keep your eyes on the prize. Do not plant negative thoughts in your head. Look to Jesus for your strength to see you through no matter what!

PRAYER: I choose to remain positive in a negative world. When challenges come my way help me Lord to focus on good things and not the reasons why I can not do something. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Don't Let Satan Control Your Emotions



"We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5
 I pride myself in being a pretty cheerful person but every now and then my mind may wander and get my moods in a funk and emotions messed up. I always feel this is the enemy messing with me as he knows that can be my weak area if only he can get me off course. You may have a similar problem. You convince yourself people don't like you or you conjure up scenarios of fear in your mind. That is why one of the best selling books by author and Bible teacher Joyce Meyer is 'Battlefield of the Mind'.

Satan knows if he can get into your thought life he can wage his war. To combat this it is necessary to have a steady diet of scripture, prayer, and meditating on good things. Don't let your mind drift somewhere. Tell Satan to get behind you and quote some Scripture to him. Prayer and praise are valuable tools as well.

Keep your mind on good things by not letting bad things enter your mind. This could mean changing what you watch on TV, read, or listen to. It is your mind, so you choose do you want it filled with things of this world or heavenly things. Not a hard decision I wouldn't think.

PRAYER: I need to make sure I am not daydreaming about wrong things and I need your help Lord to stay focused on positive uplifting thoughts. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A Fresh Coat Of Paint



And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Revelation 21:1

How many of you like to paint the walls in your house or have done it? I need to but have not. When paint starts getting old and tired looking often times a new look is needed to make every seem all new again. It is refreshing after you are done to see the crisp new colors. It is like living in a brand new place almost. 

When the end comes to this Earth as we know it and Christ comes back He will have a new perfect kingdom. You can read about it in Revelation Chapters 20 and 21. In Verse 8 of Revelation 21 it says "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." No one knows when the Lord will come back. It will be a time when we least expect it." His freshly painted world so to speak without fault or blemish for those who inherit eternal life. 

If you are not sure you will go to heaven don't wait. You never know when the Lord will sound that final trumpet. Simply pray in your own words and ask God to forgive you and cleanse you and that you believe in Him. Then of course your heart will be changed if it is a true repentance and you will desire to live for Him and serve Him. You will have that new fresh coat of paint. 

PRAYER: I am thankful for the gift of eternal life. Help me be concerned for those friends and family who may not know you and pray for them to accept you and live for you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Words can make a person or break them. Once you say something it can not be retracted. It is very important to think before speaking. There are times I let my emotions do the talking and oh how I wish I had not. What about you? 

If someone is using angry or hurtful words to you it is best to ignore them because responding back will most likely result in a fight. Satan loves hurtful words and he loves anger and when a believer doesn't think before he speaks that's great to him. 

Today before you start your day stop and pray that your words would only bring glory to those who hear them. 



PRAYER: Today I choose to let my words show your love to those around me. Give me strength when confronted by less than peaceful people and help me respond in love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Watch What You Say

Your speech reflects the kind of person you are and is also an indicator of what your store up in your heart. If you are around positive cheerful people you will probably tend to be more like that. But if you hang out with those who swear and are angry it may eventually come back to haunt you in the form of ugliness spewing forth from your mouth.

The Bible is filled with scripture on speech, words, the tongue and our mouth. It is critical for a person who claims to know Jesus to be careful of what comes out of their mouth. You've heard the saying "If you can't say anything good then don't say anything at all?" There is much truth in that. 

Today why not be kind with your words even when someone may not deserve it or be kind to you. Let your speech reflect the character of Christ inside of you. 

PRAYER: It is so easy if angry to say something we may regret later. Loose misspoken words can deeply wound another individual and destroy relationships. Help me always think before I speak, text, or email. In Jesus' name. Amen.

This Is Bad Friend.....But Jesus Is Bigger And Better!


Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. Ephesians 3:20

Recently I got a political email with the subject line 'This Is Bad Friend' and  it gave me an idea for this devotion. How many times when we 'feed' ourselves a steady diet of the daily news on TV,online, or in the paper can we become so discouraged with the state of everything? It is extremely easy to let doom and gloom take control of your mind and to start being fearful. My friend, Jesus has our back and God is 'master of this universe' and bigger than any situation or any problem.

No matter what as this verse says "God can do immeasurably more" because after all He is God and He has our back. He allows certain things for a reason and we have to trust Him that His plan is the greatest plan and not allow fear to overtake you. If you tend to be fearful then turn off the TV and open God's word instead. In it you will find peace, hope,and joy and the rest of the story.

A new year means a new way of doing business. A chance for a clean slate. Maybe that needs to be done in your thought life. Get those things out of your life causing you panic and anxiety and trust that God is in charge. 

PRAYER: Lord you are God most high. You are sad when evil happens but you allow it sometimes because after all we have a free will. We pray for those people who are bent on evil that their hearts will be turned from evil to good. We pray your name be lifted up over our troubles. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Detoured?



For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

It is very frustrating, especially when a person is running late, to run into a detour. Usually it is road construction but it could be various other reasons such as an accident. Detours are unfortunately part of life. It is how you deal with them that counts.

Life often gives us detours we did not plan on. Perhaps God is orchestrating something new in a person's life and even better than what they were 'detoured' from. It could be not getting into a school. Maybe it is an unexpected move out of state or to a different city. You are not accepted into medical, dental, vet,or law school and cannot understand why. Flight delays at airport. Messed up vacation plans. There are a host of possibilities. 

When one door shuts another even better door often opens. If we are bummed out and angry and not seeing it as possibly the hand of God, then anger and a lack of peace could result. Many times a person may reflect back and see exactly why things did not happen the way they thought they should. Trust God and give Him the praise and glory. 

PRAYER:  I admit there have been times when something did not go as planned when I could not understand and may have even been a bit upset. Forgive me for not giving it to you at the time. Help me to trust you for anything unexpected in the future. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Connection Problems


Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.' Jeremiah 33:3

In this day and age when we expect to have everything instant it is maddening when you  can not get on the internet. I mean this is the modern era and things are supposed to work especially in a metropolitan area. We can become quite spoiled and even angry. This happens to all of us and my recommendation is to stay cool and thankful. Indeed a tiny internet problem is not worth more gray hairs.

As I pondered this recently I was thinking how we never have a connection problem with our Heavenly Father. Indeed He is there.  Basically you can cry out to God and He does hear you. You don't need a password, loud voice, ticket, reservation, or special pass.

What is on your heart today? Maybe your internet is frozen up and you don't have a signal but God's signal and connectivity is around the clock. Give prayer a try.

PRAYER: The things on earth that are supposed to be modern conveniences may occasionally frustrate me Lord but you are always there for me. Thanks you for your unconditional love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Waiting?


The Lord is good to those who wait for Him,To the person who seeks Him. Lamentations 3:25

Not too many people I know are a fan of waiting. Waiting for a doctors' report. Waiting in line at the store. Waiting in line for a show. Waiting in traffic. Waiting for restoration of a relationship. But waiting is part of life and can be a good thing as it teaches patience if you allow it to.

One thing for prayer warriors out there, is waiting for an answer to prayer. Sometimes God can be doing a work in your life as well as the person you are praying for. He desires you to seek Him with your whole heart. Do you do that? Is your heart undivided? Do you have a passion for Christ or is He just a casual thing that is part of your life when you feel like it? These are just some questions to think about. Are you on a daily quest to seek Him and know Him better?

Knowing God better requires not just prayer but opening up the Word of God on a daily basis and getting some scripture into your heart and mind. Change only occurs when we become more like Jesus and to do that you must pick up the instruction manual otherwise known as The Bible. While you wait why not make it a priority to schedule your life around God and not the other way around and it helps the waiting. 

PRAYER: Father I know you have good plans for those whose hearts are turned towards you. Forgive me for times I have gone about my day too busy to give you more than a couple minutes. Help me plan my day to include you first. And oh help me while I wait. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Lotto Fever


It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it. Isaiah 55:11

The recent Power Ball Jackpot close to 1 billion dollars sent people into a lottery ticket buying frenzy. Here in my town three places that sold lottery tickets had jammed parking lots and vehicles waiting to pull in.Everyone wanted to apparently get rich quick.

Wouldn't it be great if these same people anxious to get rich quick got that excited about going to church or going to work? Riches do not satisfy. Maybe a temporary fix but numerous stories are told of winners having all sorts of problems as the years go by. Real prosperity comes from God and knowing Jesus. He is your source of supply if you trust Him. I am not saying He is going to get you a fancy car and jewels but prosperity in life in general. Prosper in some Christian circles has become a nasty word but there are places in God's word where it truly says He wants us to prosper. Prospering doesn't come from instant riches.

Matthew 6:21 says "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Is your heart in tune with Jesus. Trust Him to provide.

PRAYER: Lord it is tempting to want to win lots of money. It seems it could solve many problems when sometimes in fact it could create more. If I do ever come into immense wealth help me remember to help others by sharing. Give me a servants heart Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be An Oddball


Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity.Colossians 4:5
Recently in my travels I noted a man had dropped a paper out of his pocket. I walked over and picked it up and he thanked me. Often times in a big cold impersonal world we can forget to be kind, forget to smile. 
Maybe it is time to be different than others. As a believer we should not just blend in to our surroundings but we should have a glow about us. Not a grumpy face, bad disposition, and negative spirit. 
Are you able to be an oddball of sorts and do things to shine Jesus' love and light upon others? Give it a try. You might just like the way you feel. 

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I don't attempt to make a difference in someone's life. Give me opportunities to show your love even to the grumpiest people. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Dad's Got You!



Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Dads seem to be more adventurous with children like the dad who tosses his toddler up in the air as the horrified mother watches in fear. Or the dad who stands at the base of the jungle gym and says "Jump, daddy will catch you." At that moment the trusting child leaps to their father with full confidence he indeed will catch them. 

Our Heavenly Father is like that. Our Abba Father Daddy wants what is best for us. He often lets us make mistakes as we grow and mature. But He is always there and has our back. We often later might ignore Him like we are ashamed of Him but He is going nowhere just waiting for your love to come back to Him. 

Do you love your Daddy in heaven? He certainly loves you and if you have never asked Him into your heart He is waiting. He has always been at your hearts door knocking just waiting for the invitation to come in. Why not invite Him in today?

Does It Take A Whale?


The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai:
 "Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.”
But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord. Jonah 1:1-3
Have you ever had the experience that you felt prompted by the Holy Spirit to do something but instead ran from it? The excuse could be someone else will speak out or someone else will take care of this need. Have you ever thought that maybe, just maybe, the person set aside to do this was you? It is impossible to hide from God, as He is all knowing,  after all. Excuses often don't cut it with the Almighty. 

In modern times we may laugh off the notion of a giant fish swallowing a person for not obeying God's orders. I would not laugh if I were you. The task may not be as large as telling an entire city they need to repent or perish, but something much smaller. Nothing God asks you to do is 'small' in the big scheme of things.

What is God speaking to your heart about today? Maybe sharing Christ with a friend or even a stranger? Volunteering at a place where you can be a witness for Him?  Speaking up for injustice at a university or even to our own government. The Lord is your guide and you are to be His witnesses and sometimes that means speaking up in love.

PRAYER: Help me Father to open my mouth with Holy boldness and in love when sharing your truths with others. Protect me from evil along the way. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Get Up. Get Going!


I can do everything through Him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:13

Do you have things you need to do? Perhaps New Years' resolutions that are yet to be acted upon? What is stopping you and keeping you from moving forward? 

God is the source of your strength and a positive can do spirit. If you feel lethargic and unmotivated about a task, perhaps you need to do ask God to help you have the strength and energy to carry it out. 

The enemy wants to keep you lazy and content with the status quo. He can get into your mind and convince you to just not try anything new and make you feel you will never succeed. Know that in fact you can! Go for it!

Club Member Or Fully Alive?


Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me. John 15:4

Are you experiencing the fullness of Christ in your life? Do you get up daily and yearn for a quiet time to know Him better? Often times this goes on the back burner of a person's' life as more 'important pressing' duties crowd it out. Busyness is one of Satan's best tools. There are many who may assume because they attend church one day a week or are in a certain denomination that is all they need do to be part of the 'club' so to speak. 

Jesus is more than Sunday. He is also Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. To stay close to Him and resist the onslaught of lies swirling around us daily,  it is necessary to stay anchored to the Holy Bible. Not as a good luck charm or coffee table decoration. This most important book is a Christian's most valuable tool and guidebook. If it is not opened you have no power to defeat the enemy nor are you aware of his schemes. 

Instead of just being a club member or having a Christian sticker on your car, why not make it a point in 2016 to get closer to Him than ever before!

PRAYER:  It is easy to make excuses as to why I don't read my Bible more. Forgive me Lord. I know it is Satan who wants me defeated and powerless. I refuse to allow that. I purpose in 2016 to do what I need to grow in Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hell Is No Joke!


A person may think their own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart. Proverbs 21:2

Today in 2016 in the United States we have let culture define what is right and wrong and a lawless government has approved things that are against the word of God. Some within the church are starting to cave in to things like same sex marriage for instance. We have a rule book called the Bible and it does not change with the times. Clearly Satan is at work overtime deceiving even those who should know better.

If a person dare to speak out against a people group then they are labeled hateful. In Proverbs 14:12 it says "There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death." Inside of everyone that little voice called a conscience lets you know what is right or wrong. Sometimes because of 'feelings' the wrong is embraced despite knowing better. 

Romans 3:23 says "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." One sin is not the 'big one'. We must all be on guard for our enemy is prowling around like a roaring lion it says in 1 Peter 5:8, seeking who he will destroy. Deceit is subtle and it catches many off guard. Stand firm and stay in God's word for there only is truth. 

PRAYER: Be with those people caught up in sins that mankind has said are perfectly okay. Help the truth set thousands free who are in bondage to demonic spirits who have captivated them. May we show Christian love to those who are deceived and never be caught up in self righteousness. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Help For Those Who Are Sinking



"I sank down to the very roots of the mountains. I was imprisoned in the earth, whose gates lock shut forever. But you, O LORD my God, snatched me from the jaws of death!"   Jonah 2:6

Do you ever feel that you are sinking in quick sand and can't get out? I am speaking of of course emotionally not physically. Problems seem to overwhelm you and you sense there is no way out. You may even be clinically depressed and not realize it.

There is good news. It is the enemy of our souls Satan who brings about these feelings of hopelessness, despair, anguish, and defeat. You are a victor in Christ if you have asked Him to be Lord of your life. Problems in life do not have to overwhelm you. Romans 7:25 says "Thank God! The answer is in Jesus Christ our Lord. So you see how it is: In my mind I really want to obey God's law, but because of my sinful nature I am a slave to sin." At the time you are going through something you do feel helpless but that is why it is necessary to praise God even through the storms of life. They will end and there will be a rainbow. 

1 Corinthians 15:57 reminds us "But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." Can you praise the name of Jesus today and thank Him ahead of time for the victory you will have?

PRAYER: Thank you for being my rescuer in times I feel like I am sinking in the issues of life. I know those feelings are not of you and I choose to look up and not into the pit. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Patience Is A Good Thing


But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Everyone is probably breathing a sigh of relief that Christmas is behind them. So much hustle and bustle on this day that is supposed to bring peace on Earth and good will to men. A true exercise in patience during the Christmas season is to go to your local post office four days prior and have only one clerk working and a line nearly out the door. I saw frazzled nerves and people turning around and leaving. 

Patience is defined as forbearance, tolerance and strength. There is always the standing joke that says to not pray for patience or you will undergo trials. Patience is needed in every aspect of our lives. We wait for food at a restaurant. Wait to hear about a job application. Wait on grades. Wait in line at the store or DMV. You get the point. Not having patience is bound to wreak havoc in your life. It causes anger,high blood pressure, and ill will. 

Why not purpose in your heart you will not be impatient and try to relax when you hate to play the waiting game. You and others around you will better for it. 

PRAYER: Lord help me to calm down and learn to not let lines frustrate me. Give me your super natural peace to handle each situation that comes my way. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Aromas Galore!



For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which ascends] to God, [discernible both] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the latter one an aroma from death to death [a fatal, offensive odor], but to the other an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is adequate and sufficiently qualified for these things? 2 Corinthians 2:15-16

Recently I was in one of my favorite places to do my writing during the breakfast hour and the aroma of bacon was so delightful. I wanted to order an entire plate full but I resisted. A sweet smell attracts others and for hungry people the smell of bacon or any food is wonderful. 

As a believer we are to be like the 'aroma' of Christ or when people see us they should be drawn from not repelled away from the savior who we represent. Are we delightful to be around or do we act 'religious' and scare people away? Are you blooming for Christ wherever you are planted whether it is in a place where you might be the only believer? Do you hold your tongue when you are outnumbered or get into arguments over  Christian things? Do you show the love of Christ even when you do not agree with someone and their stand on something? After all it says in the word that "kindness lead to repentance"(Romans 2:4).

Ask God to help you in being like a sweet smelling aroma and having people attracted to the life you lead rather than want to hold their nose.

PRAYER: There have been times I have not smelled like the aroma of Christ and I want to be able to be your witness. Help me as I seek to guard my heart and share Jesus' love even when someone opposes the Christian message. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Our Power Source


Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. John 15:4

When I go to a coffee shop to do my writing I am always on the lookout for a power outlet. Sometimes they are hard to locate and if my battery is on low power I may not be able to stay very long. I need a source of electricity to keep my computer fully charged. 

As a believer I need more than just Sunday for one hour to stay fully powered for the Lord. If you think you can get by on one hour then you have much to learn. Being a Christian  means more than having a 'country club' membership. Many people know deep down they should get closer to God or maybe they don't. The second category squeaks by with very low power all week long.

To get powered up and charged for the Lord you have to spend time with Him. You do this by setting aside daily time to get into the word of God. Not just Christian TV or radio but actually opening up the Bible and reading. It is through reading you become to develop a Christlike character and are able to recognize and thwart the attacks of our enemy Satan. Do you plan to stay connected?

PRAYER: Often times I get too busy or simply make excuses for why I do not have a daily quiet  time. There is really no excuse so forgive me. Help me recognize the enemy trying to get me into a complacent mode and defeat him by opening up the Bible and reading it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

On The Sidelines Or In The Game?


Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! 2 Corinthians 5:17

Happy New Year! Today is traditionally the day for Rose Parade(I am there in person this year😃), Rose Bowl game, traditional food such as pork and kraut in our family, and making New Years resolutions.  Football though,  seems to overshadow it all. Even a non football fanatic family like mine watches the Rose Bowl game.

The theme of football lead me to ask the all important question in life and that is "are you sitting on God's sideline or are you in the game?" Sideline sitters are important parts of the team but get little action unless the primary 'star' gets worn out or injured. The sidelines of a Christian life would be living a ho hum existence. Maybe too into 'religion' and denominations and not so much into Christ. Maybe you feel the sidelines is just fine and will keep you from being too fanatical. Guess what? I am proud to be a team player and fanatic for the Lord. How about you? 

Are you content remaining on the sidelines or do you want more of Jesus in your life? 

PRAYER: I want more of you in my life. I know Satan is the nasty culprit who tries to keep me down and make me believe the lies of this modern culture. I choose to stay on the team. In Jesus' name. Amen.
