Celebrity News

You shall have no other god's before me. Exodus 20:3

What is it about celebrities that fascinates us? We are all just people from different walks of like. The Hollywood actor puts his or her pants on the same way I do but they may cost more money.   As I was in the waiting room of my car dealership recently,  I observed the reaction of others in the room when the caption came on TV "Amy Poehler News".  Was I seated with anticipation of what was to come? I was not,  but it sure made lots of folks in the room look up at the screen.

Celebrity status can ruin a person if they are not careful. When sports figures fresh out of college having a signing to play professional sports at millions of dollars, this money could mark their ruin and demise if they are not careful. When a person starts thinking more highly of themselves, that is a recipe for disaster. We should treat all people the same regardless of life stature and not make someone famous our 'god'.

Lots of valuable time that could have been spent in prayer and getting to know God is wasted daily on meaningless news that does nothing for growing us to be more like Christ. If this is your weak area allow God to transform you to making Him the one true celebrity.

PRAYER:Lord I do not want any other "god" to come before you whether it is people who are famous, your alma mater, your job or any activity I regularly put before you. I want to be transformed to put you truly first. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Bounce Back

Surely God is my help; the Lord is the One who sustains me. Psalm 54:4

How are you feeling today? Perhaps a dead end feeling where you just do not know if you can go on. Circumstances in your life may have just reached the point you do not know where to turn. This could be as a result of a loss of some sort. Maybe loss of a family member, loss of a dream, loss of good health. Whatever it is, you can make it and you can bounce back on go on! "But I feel so down and out and discouraged" you may say. God does know how you feel and He is your comfort in times of trouble. There have been  times in my life I let things overwhelm me and I just had to get away and get into the Word. Sometimes doing something for others is an excellent remedy.

When feelings overwhelm you and you just want to run away, that is not a feeling from God. That is right from the pit of hell and from Satan. He is not a comic book character with a little red pitchfork but is roaming around seeking to destroy us. The Bible tells us in James 4:7 to "resist the devil and he will flee from us".  Satan is a master of messing with our thoughts and our minds. It is necessary to stay focused on good and not evil. Get control of your mind and fill it with the Word of God.

If you need to 'bounce back' pick up your Bible and open it to the book of Psalms, John, or Proverbs. Just let God's word heal you.

PRAYER: Lord I know you love me and it is not your desire for me to go through life despairing. I trust in you Lord and know your words will guide me and strengthen me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Whoa There Oh Great One

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Romans 12:3

Humility is very important. Needless to say probably everyone has boasted at one time or another but I had a boss in the Army at Fort Campbell, Kentucky who would say "Let your virtues speak for themselves". Military members are awarded with all sorts of ribbons and medals for outstanding valor and service and most, if not all, would humbly say they did not deserve it. One of our very own young men whom our prayer group, Moms in Prayer, had been lifting up for several years, was severely wounded last year in Afghanistan. He was recently interviewed on CBS TV and I have a link to that at the end of my devotion. This young man endured much and received the Purple Heart and maybe other awards I am unaware of. He is a brave deserving young man who lost friends and comrades in the attack he was wounded in.

Awards and recognition are extremely nice to receive. When you are the honoree or some special degree, award, or recognized some other way try to be humble and let God have the glory. It is God who gives me the ideas for my writing. To Him goes all the glory.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for awards, honors, tributes and all forms of human praise. When and if I do receive and honor help me remember to give you the praise and glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Family Is Forever

From  birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb. I will ever praise you. Psalm 71:6

Today is my older sister's birthday. Everyone thinks she looks younger but I am not mad.  I am so thankful to have her in my life and to have a good relationship. I know of a family right now here in Tennessee where two brothers have not spoken in over six years over something that could be taken care of by simply being humble and saying forgive me. Marriages could be saved if spouses would just talk and be able to forgive.

I talk about Satan lots and that is not to glorify him because he is a destroyer, but it is simply to magnify the fact to believer's that we need to defeat him at his game. He is tricky and works undercover to weave his web of destruction. He loves to destroy families. If you tear apart the family you can cripple this great nation. If you do not acknowledge he is real and out to get you then he is overjoyed. Too many churches do not mention spiritual warfare. My friend, it is real.

So back to my wonderful sister. She is a blessing who I thank God for. I am blessed by a wonderful family. Hold on to yours tight and if you are estranged do the right thing and reconcile. You will be thankful for it.

PRAYER: Lord you are good and your mercies endure forever. Thank you for the gift of family. Thank you for birthdays. Help me not dread getting older but be thankful for each year. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hurting? Move On Would You?

If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it;if a foe were rising against me,  I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself,my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers. Psalm 55:12-14
Hurts in life occur. Rejection by a friend or loved one for unexplainable reasons is one of the hardest to endure but yet one I have had to go through more than one time. I say, "Lord what is it I am to learn from this lesson" and those who dislike me would say "take the hint girl".

Broken relationships of any sort hurt God immensely. He would rather us dwell in unity. Since creation and the fall, people have been at odds with each other. Many verses in the Bible attest to this. I always say when bad junk happens to me I have new writing material so I guess am very thankful for being "emotionally bruised" by a few former friends. Satan is overjoyed at all kinds of relationship problems. If only true believers could not let this happen. Growth does come through problems in life though.
Do not let people have power over you and rob you of your joy. Cling to those friends who love and appreciate you, warts and all. We can not make everyone like us. Run to Jesus and pray for your enemies. That's in the Bible!

PRAYER: Lord help me to learn from problems in life and hurts in life. I love you and love the people on this Earth, even those who hate me. Help me as I seek to remain focused on you and not get down on myself. In Jesus' name. Amen

Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people who He chose for His inheritance. Psalm 33:12

From the statistics I see  on my blogger site I know I have some foreign readers, which thrills me! So to those foreign readers  please bear with me for a moment okay?  Today in America happens to be Memorial Day. This day is set aside to honor those men and women who in service to this country paid the ultimate price with the shedding of their blood. It is because of these brave men and women that we can sit in a free country today with all of its' benefits.

After the terrorists attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 once again the flag and country became popular. If you did not already own an  American flag, there were hardly flags in stock then. In my opinion all Americans should have an American flag  and put it out on display proudly every day not just on Memorial Day or other patriotic holidays.

The flag is very  important to those who have served in our Armed  Forces especially in foreign lands and on faraway battlefields. When the tragic death of a service member occurs on active duty his or her flag draped coffin comes into Dover AFB in Delaware, where they process deceased active duty soldiers. My father served a  few years in the World War II era and thankfully got sick and was not deployed with his unit of coastal artillery most of whom  were killed. Even though never in combat I requested that when he die, there would be an American flag on his casket. I have that flag in a case now on display in my home. I would like a flag on my casket when my time on Earth is complete too. I am proud of this great nation and all it means to the many immigrants who  legally came here for freedom on the Mayflower and beyond. The Pilgrims braved harsh conditions and many did not survive. The flag is a symbol of a free nation whose people loved Jesus as well.

Take a moment today wherever you are and stop and thank God for the freedom we enjoy and ask for His protection over the Armed Forces as they serve selflessly throughout the world often with little respect by others.

PRAYER: On this day Lord I say thank you for living in America. Thank you for freedom. Thank you for those who serve to protect us. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Really Does Care

"
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Things in life are going to happen both good and bad. No one is immune. Just this past week I know of two families struggling with the loss of a mom and wife, one was quite before the typical age we associate with dying. Tragedy happens sometimes unexpectedly as in the death of a baby or child. Why? I do not know but I know that God is bigger than any problem. There is a given in life and that is we all will die someday.

Do you feel God has abandoned you or do scream out in anger at Him over taking your loved one away from you? God loves you my friend. He has experienced every pain we have. Satan is the one who attempts to get you to scream and curse God. Don't do it my friend. Instead thank Him for the time you were blessed with the gift of the beloved one who has gone on to be with Him.

PRAYER: Lord I know you love me. Your love knows no bounds. Forgive me if I have ever doubted your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Pack Your Bags! You're Going On A Guilt Trip!

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.Romans 12:21

Maybe we've been on one or sent others on one, but guilt trips are not the ideal vacation destination.I
try not to intentionally send anyone on one but I am certain I have slipped up, maybe with my children at times. Some families send their adult children on guilt trips to make them feel bad for not being home on a holiday. I am thankful that's not a trip my children have been on.

If you are the one buying the tickets for these guilt trips try to ask God to make you aware of what
you are doing and give you the ability to stop. If you have been sent on one by others even if they are
unaware of it make it a point to forgive this and not let bitterness and an offended spirit build up. If it
gets bad you may have to approach the generous person who wants to send you on one and talk things over. Trying to get your way by making people feel guilty is very unloving and unkind. Love is selfless and does not try to push people to do things their way. Think about that and go on a nice vacation but not a guilt trip.

PRAYER: Lord I want to be kind and loving to friends, family, and strangers so with that in mind give me the ability to not send people on guilt trips. In Jesus name. Amen.

Graduation Day

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
This time of year more than any other, graduations are taking place everywhere from kindergarten level to doctorate level. Thrilled parents and other family and friends excitedly gather in auditoriums or outdoor venues to honor those who achieve this milestone in their lives.
One day for believers the ultimate graduation day will come and that is passing from death unto life everlasting in heaven with God. Wow, that is something no one can imagine but can look forward to without fear.  Can't you just imagine the excitement in heaven when a sinner repents or a believer comes home to be with the Lord. What a day of rejoicing it will be indeed!
PRAYER: I am so excited for my graduation day into your heavenly kingdom. Help me continue to run the race to win. In Jesus' name. Amen.

No Place I'd Rather Be

I will extol the Lord at all times. His praise will always be on my lips. Psalm 34:1

I totally love praise and worship music. To get immersed in the worship time and music ministers to my soul. One of my favorite songs, among many, is the tune 'Here in your Presence'. I get totally into this song of worship.

No one is immune to attacks from the enemy. Whatever your weak area is,he will find it and dig and dig to get you into a state of mind where you totally can not praise God very much. That happened to me recently and in order to snap out of it I had to not only pray and recognize this as an attack from Satan, but fill my mind with good songs of contemporary praise and worship. It does wonders no matter what denomination you are in. Do not allow the enemy to take you down. God is mightier than him and you need to remind Satan of that. Do not believe Satan's lies to belittle you and your faith. Stand strong friend!

There's no place I'd rather be than in the presence of my Jesus.

PRAYER: Lord you are good. Lord you are great. Your love is unsearchable and your ways past finding out. Thank you for rescuing me from the pit Satan had laid for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Fear The Lord

Whoever fears the Lord walks uprightly, but those who despise him are devious in their ways.Proverbs 14:2

When I ask the question ,"Do you fear the Lord?" I am not meaning are you scared of Him in the sense of fright, but do you respect and honor Him? Is worshipping Him and pleasing Him first place in your life? If not perhaps it is time for a life adjustment and inventory to see what you need to do in order to be closer to Him.

Being a Christian is not a Sunday only activity but it ahold be a lifestyle. You should not be ashamed of your faith and try to hide it. Your life choices should line up with your commitment to be His follower. If you aren't excited about Jesus maybe you never asked Him to be Lord of your life. You can do that today. He can be your everything.

PRAYER: Every day I look forward Lord to singing your praises. I realize at times the enemy attacks but I attack him back reminding him I belong to you and you are in control. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Just Read It!

Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
The marketing geniuses at Nike were great when they came up with their slogan "Just Do It". I would like to make a play on words using their creativity in saying that as a Christian if we expect to grow and fight daily spiritual battles that come our way it is necessary to "just read it" referring of course to The Bible. Don't just do it to check off some block that says "did that for today" but maybe start and read a Psalm or a Proverb or do a subject study on a topic such as love or judging. The point is with anything we do to be good at it practice and repetition is the key. Don't let excuses or lack of time cause you to put God on a back burner.
God will never put us last. He loves us so let's love Him back and spend time with Him. Just Read It!

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the day ahead of me. I choose you first above all else. I intend to read the word of God and not keep talking about it. I will not allow Satan to keep me from it. In Jesus' name.Amen.

My Denomination Is The Greatest! Oh Really?

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12

I will be so glad to be in heaven with Jesus someday where there are not different churches on every corner. Mankind is funny. Men interpret the Bible in different ways making up manmade doctrines along the way. Some denominations go so far as to proclaim they are the only way to heaven. Knowing Jesus, is where it is at, and asking Him to be Lord of your life.Acts 16:31 puts it pretty simply when it states "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved- you and your household."

There have been occasions when I got into conversations about what if someone dies before they were baptized, say a baby for instance raised in a faith where infants are dedicated, or someone who accepts Christ at a Crusade then is killed by a car on the way home. We should want to have a believer's baptism in obedience to Him, but I firmly believe a loving God does not send a baby to hell or someone recently saved such as at a Billy Graham revival. God is a loving God, it is His followers sometimes that create hurdles to the kingdom.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord that you are the way,the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father except through you. Help me to show love to all people and not act arrogant about my denomination. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Note: I highly recommend the movie 'God's Not Dead' which I have now seen 6 times. It deals with some of this topic. Do yourself a favor and go!

Arrived? Not Yet!

Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders, and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1

Every day I get up and I pray for God to keep me humble, use me, help me love and not hate, watch what I say, and to forget the past. It is an ongoing thing especially when there are hurts in life that human nature says to get even for. Dwelling on stuff does not get you closer to the Lord but instead just allows the enemy to drag you deeper into his pit. Jealousy,  anger, and hurt may still pop up, but I know the Lord loves me and will help me defeat the enemy at his tricks.

None of us have "arrived" so to speak. When you get to thinking you are pretty good and pretty holy, look out. None of us is perfect and each of us are a work in progress. Remember in Romans 3:23 it says "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Keep looking to Jesus for it is only through Him that we eventually arrive.

PRAYER: I know I am not where I need to be but am thankful for the progress I make daily to be drawn closer to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Vacation Over

Commit to the Lord whatever you do and He will establish your  plans. Proverbs 16:3

Vacations sure are nice. A chance to get away and experience new and exciting things. The intent of a vacation is twofold. Enjoyment is necessary but also the freedom to relax and get away from everyday stresses. There may be times when a vacation is more stressful than staying home. When this happens sometimes we wish we had just stayed home. Do not be afraid to schedule down time in your plans. That way you don't return home wiped out.

It is important to go away, but not on vacation from God and being a Christian. He wants to be involved in every part of your life. To have a peaceful trip why not commit the time to Him and pray about where it is you should go?  You may have a place in mind. Before you depart pray and ask God to keep you safe and make your life a witness for Him wherever you go on your time away. Ask Him to help you in the details of your trip and give you wisdom on what activities to participate in.

PRAYER: As the time for summer vacation approaches Lord, I want to be serving you wherever it is I go. I pray for hotel rooms to have God's word placed by the Gideon's in the bedside tables for those who do not know you to possibly read. I am thankful to be able to go on a trip if even only locally. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Attitude of Gratitude

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. Philippians 4:11

Recently I had the privilege of sleeping overnight in Chicago O'Hare Airport at the USO in a recliner. I was grateful for a place to go for free and try to rest. It took me a while to settle in and get comfortable. In this "quiet room" as it was called, several active duty service members snoozed away with no problem. In the morning I talked to a veteran who had served four combat tours and the luxury of a recliner was marvelous compared to sleeping conditions in war zones.

After hearing his story it made me feel bad for ever wishing for the comforts of a cushy mattress in a luxury hotel. It was time for a thanksgiving checkup. In your own life maybe a good assignment would be writing down one thing daily you are thankful for. Soon you will have an attitude of gratitude.

PRAYER: I am thankful first of all for being alive . Thank you for the good things and bad in life as through everything I learn and grow. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Being Happy For Others

Rejoice with those who rejoice. Mourn with those who mourn. Romans 12:15

Sometimes in life people have things happen that cause another envy. Let's say a person has a talent or skill that you wish you had. Maybe you find yourself resenting that person. When you can not be happy for others then you are slipping into a trap the enemy has set to get you jealous of others. To be able to live a life full of the love of Jesus you have to nip that area in the bud if you are weighed down with it.

The verse for today is pretty clear. No extra degrees are needed to understand it. Basically be happy for others and if they are sad weep with them. If you can not be happy for others successes then you need to ask Jesus to intervene and give you a heart full of His love.

PRAYER: I truly want to rejoice for others when they have a success in life. I realize the enemy can make me fall into his trap and take his bait and if I do I can not show love. I want your love inside of me. In Jesus name.Amen.

Strongman

Finally be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. Ephesians 6:10
At a circus or carnival there is often a strongman displaying feats to astound us such as bending metal bars, lifting huge dumbbells or breaking boards. He is strong, mighty, and powerful. His strength is indeed amazing but there is one stronger yet that can give you strength to stand up to problems in life. His name is Jesus.
Lifting weights is a good thing. I go to the gym regularly and love to lift weights to stay in shape. Our inner man has to stay strong as well. To build strength inside it is necessary to feed your spirit daily with the word of God and prayer. The word is like a shield to protect us from Satan and give us power to defeat Him. The more you read and memorize His Word, the stronger you become. You may find it hard to discipline yourself to physically work out and thus become flabby and overweight. Likewise when you neglect time with God you become a spiritual weakling. Make up your mind today to be a strongman for God!
PRAYER: Lord you are good and your mercies endue forever and ever. I love your Word and do not like to neglect my time with You although at times I have. Forgive me Lord. I seek to get stronger each and every day. In Jesus' name.Amen.

Christlike?

Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you. James 1:21

Each day when I get up I have to remind myself to be kind, selfless, non judgmental, content, loving, not revengeful and to watch what I say. I want to "walk" with the Lord and be able to please Him in all I say and do. Satan knows your weak areas and will throw things at you to take you off your Christlike path.

As I wrote this in a local coffee shop two women sat at a nearby table with some sort of business portfolios. My mind envisioned, for a moment, the exciting life they might lead but then I caught myself falling into Satan's trap to lure me off the course God has for me. Comparing is not God's plan but He has something different for everyone. I am thankful He led me to write and share His word. My main focus is to be Christlike and not get caught up drifting away.

PRAYER: I am very thankful Lord for where you have me in life. Help me not get caught in Satan's trap to make me discontent or jealous. I want to be Christlike in all I say and do. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Read The Fine Print

Therefore since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1

When you enter into a contract of any kind it is necessary to read the fine print and make sure you know exactly what you are getting into. If you don't take time to do this you may be in for a shock and surprises.

Believers who accept Christ know exactly what will happen when they die and that is enter heaven into be with Jesus for eternity. Those who are atheists and agnostics may think they know the answers, but a rude awakening awaits those who have rejected Jesus. There are no tricks in accepting Christ. You are supposed to turn from your sins and live for Jesus and not knowingly continue to sin. All of us have sinned but we are to repent and ask God to forgive us. The enemy has tricked many into not "reading the fine print" so to speak and following him and his ways blindly, some without even realizing it.

Be sure to read the word of God for there you find the truth to lead you on the path to eternal life.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for the Bible which contains no tricks. It is clear and forthright. Help me follow it and turn from any sin in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Life Is Precious

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Here it is Mother's Day. I have heard that the most phone calls are made on this day to tell mom how much we love her. I am indeed thankful for the gift of life my mother gave me. Of course it took my father too. His day will be celebrated next month. I am blessed that my 89 years young mom is still alive and living on her own.

If you are a mom, treasure that precious gift of life God allowed you to bring into the world and nurture. Moms endure lots of pain in childbirth and their may be heartaches raising children, but oh the joy of motherhood and bringing a new life into this world. There is nothing like it! Yours is an important job not to be taken lightly. God allowed you to bring forth life. Your job and your husband is to raise that child to serve the Lord and love Him with all their heart.

Children are indeed a gift and a reward from God!

PRAYER: Thanks for my life Lord. I know I am not an accident. I thank you for allowing me to be born. I want to be a light in the world in which I live. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Self on the Throne?

For by the grace given me I say to everyone of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. Romans 12:3

The world we live in is self obsessed or so it seems. Facebook is a great tool for finding old friends and staying in touch but it can backfire and become the "look at me" tool. I have been guilty of this myself to some degree. It is fun to post pictures but when and what should be the limits so as to not become too self centered?  "Selfies" are the latest craze or in other words taking pictures of yourself with your smart phone.

I challenge each reader to think for just a moment of another person. It could be a family member, a friend, a co worker, or a stranger. Be creative and think of a way to elevate someone else above yourself. We need to "die to self" also and put Jesus first. Once we get our priorities straight you will be much happier. Jesus first, others second, yourself last. Just memorize the acronym J.O.Y. Now go have a good day!

PRAYER: Lord God I thank you for being able to do kind things for others. Help me think more of others and less of myself.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

Fear Not, Okay?

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

Fear can really get a grip on people if they allow it to. There are common fears of say skydiving from a plane and have your parachute tangle and not deploy. On my bucket list is skydiving but I am only 50/50 primarily due to that fear. Some are afraid to fly in airplanes for fear of crashing. I love to fly and I have to admit when it becomes turbulent at 35,000 feet  it can be unnerving but I simply start quietly praising God. One time though I did not realize I was audible to man next to me and he asked if I was okay.

The thing is we can not let fear control our lives or we will be miserable. I have heard it said, you have to face your fears. In other words, get back up on the horse and ride after you fall off to not allow it to control you. What do you fear today? God can get you through.

PRAYER: I need you every hour, oh God most high. When I am afraid I will trust in you. In Jesus' name.Amen.

No Looking Back

Do not say, "Why were the old days better than these?" For it is not wise to ask such questions. Ecclesiastes 7:10

Many times in the Bible it refers to not looking back and looking ahead. The past is over and nothing can be done to bring it back. No time machine has been invented to do that. I love thinking about the future because it indicates a chance to start over and do things differently. Remember what happened to Lots' wife in Genesis 19:26 when she turned around to look at the place she was leaving? She became a pillar of salt. Pretty bizarre but true.

I love to run and do not enter races like I used to, but when I did, I would not turn around and look at who was behind me but instead focused on the finish line ahead. I had to focus on doing my best and not being concerned about those behind me.

If there is something in life you can not stop thinking about and are harboring regret and remorse the best thing you can do is to charge forward asking God to help you focus on the future and learn from the past.

PRAYER: Today I want to start fresh not looking back and continually wishing I could do something different. I need your help Lord to focus on the here and now and grow from any past failures. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Don't Be Afraid

For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Timothy 1:7

Many things can cause anxiety such as tornado sirens screaming out, earthquakes, war, floods, heights, dying, getting cancer, snakes, bees,  and spiders. You can probably add to the list. God does not want His children afraid but wants them peaceful. Recently with the outbreaks of  F3 tornadoes in our area there were some anxious moments but I felt a sense of calmness through all those sirens going off.

Our enemy Satan loves it when God's children become fearful. If you get fearful it means your mind is off of God and onto being afraid. This is a time when you are having a weak moment and he likes to take advantage of you. Do not allow things to scare you. Know that Christ has your back so to speak. Know that you can rely on God to see you through and give you the peace only He provides.

PRAYER: Many things can frighten me Lord if I purposely choose to let them. I know you are my hiding place and I can trust you to care for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

My Refrigerator

For thus said the LORD of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye. Zechariah 2:8

There is a saying that says 'if God had a refrigerator your picture would be on it'. Much to the dismay of my husband who would rather see the silver refrigerator instead of a photo gallery, I have a refrigerator, and freezer in the garage, both covered with pictures of great friends in my life. It is a blessing to gaze at them as I am getting something out. To me the refrigerator is pretty special. When your children are little it may contain their precious art work from school.  For whatever reason in American homes this valuable appliance comes in handy as a gallery.

God would have to have a pretty gigantic refrigerator for all his childrens' pictures, artwork, and little notes. He loves us with an everlasting love it says in Jeremiah 31:3. We are His creation, created to do good works and serve Him. Of course it breaks His heart when we are far from Him and not  fellowshipping with other believers. Similar to a earthly parent being sad when their child goes astray, the Lord is sad when we do things to displease Him. He is calling you back to Him. He wants to be your best friend.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I love you and thank you for loving me unconditionally. Help me to seek to walk in your ways and show your love to others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Weeds in Your Garden

But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
2 Corinthians 11:14

Springlike weather has arrived in most parts of the country. On beautiful  days you may have the  urge to mow, plant flowers or a garden,  play in the sprinkler, cookout, hike, fish, canoe, go to a park,  or take a walk.

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of our strawberries in my little garden. Unfortunately weeds cropped up that had to be dealt with or if they did not, could overtake and choke the plants. Some weeds look pretty such as dandelions but they are still unwanted.

Sin is like a pretty weed.  It can look pretty but it is down right nasty and no good. Its’ beauty often times can trick you into believing it is okay. Satan has deceived many people into believing lies  and some are even Christians. The latest thing I think about is making the population believe same sex marriage is okay with God, because it is not. The enemy has deceived many well meaning people.  The devil wants to destroy us.

If you are caught in a  jungle of sin that is choking out the truth of the word of God, stop now and pray and ask God to deliver you and set you free.

PRAYER; Jesus I need you every hour. This world needs you. I choose to pull up weeds of sin and pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Our Stuff

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. 1 Timothy 6:17

This week here in my area we were under tornado threats for several hours on two consecutive days. I really had peace but still had to stay weather aware and be alert to danger. As my husband and I decided that we needed to prepare to go in our underground shelter we started putting important things in it such as purse, laptop, lockboxes which contained important documents. No time or space for all the sentimental things we do not want to have blown away somewhere. Turned out we escaped but many a few miles away did not. My husband found some siding and other pieces of metal in our field which probably blew in from Athens about 18 miles away.

When you think of preparing for things like this you may be like me and say "I want my grandmas' quilts, special Bibles, pictures, sentimental trinkets and other odds and ends." Truth of the matter is only your life is worth saving. Ask anyone who has been in a tornado such as the F5 we had here three years ago. Those victims were just happy to be alive and were grateful when they found a photograph or important document in the rubble. Often times it had blown miles away.

We certainly can not trust in our stuff. It will not save us nor can we gather it all up to take to heaven with us. Be thankful for life.

PRAYER: I pray for those who lost loved ones in the past weeks' tornadoes and pray for the first responders who are right in the midst of the destruction. Thank you for the blessings of my material possessions but help me not get too attached to them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Born A Sinner

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

From the day you entered this world you were born with a sin nature. Satan, is the god of this world, as the Bible calls him in 2 Corinthians 4:4 and he is a liar  getting people to fall into his trap. There may be some people who feel they are not so bad. Perhaps they never committed a murder, raped anyone, aborted a baby in the womb, or a host of other "bad" sins. Self righteousness can creep in and make you think "Hey I'm not so bad". When you do this you start to look down and judge others.

God does not want you to judge. He wants you to take care of your own life and pray for others. This verse above says it all. Every one of us at one time or another has committed sin. Nowhere is there a classification of "good sins" and "bad sins". Sin is sin, period. The world today excuses some sorts of sin and says there is a genetic problem.

Today in order to not be fooled by Satan and taken captive, stay in the word of God, pray and find a good Bible teaching church where you can have fellowship with other believers.

PRAYER: I know I am not perfect and I need you in my life to keep me on the right track in life. Help me be praying for others and not judging them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Nature of God

In which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. Ephesians 2:2

Everyone is born with a sin nature. It is easy to sin. There are oodles of opportunities daily to sin. There are not good sins and bad sins as some like to classify them. All sin is sin whether is it hating your brother, lying, being a thief, committing adultery, gossiping, homosexuality, or yes murder to name but a few. When we accept Christ as our savior we are to become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17).  The nature of God is to live within us as believers.

We do not have to be stuck in our past. God offers forgiveness and grace. You stumble and fall and God picks you right back up again. When we intentionally sin it keeps us from having close fellowship with the Lord. Fornicators, adulterers, homosexuals, thieves, liars, and murderers can all be forgiven, 1 Corinthians 6:11 says "and such were some of you". Jesus comes to heal and set free. It is only mere men who judge others. Jesus simply shows love.

PRAYER: Help me never be guilty of pointing the finger of judgment at someone when my own life is not perfect. I want to be a prayer, not a judger. Show me any areas in my own life that need to be redeemed. In Jesus' name. Amen.

National Prayer Time

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12

Today in the United States we are observing the National Day of Prayer. As much as atheists and others try to abolish God and prayer from this country we were founded on principles in God's word. This nation cannot survive without God's intervention. When men try to be more powerful than God it is a recipe for disaster. Making up our own rules for what is right and wrong, as is happening now with marriage,  is also not a good thing. The Bible is pretty clear on what is right and what is wrong and evil.

Each and every day when you get up, in addition to other prayers you offer to God be sure to remember to pray for this nation. Some of those reading may not live in the United States so  pray for your own country and its' leaders. God is the one who gives us our freedom. It is not from mere men. He will only stand for man's arrogance for so long.

If we continue to 'spit in God's face' so to speak, our blessings will not continue. When people wake up and get so busy they have no time for talking to God or reading their Bible then they are on a slippery slope of not being prepared for the days ahead when things will get rough.

Today stop where you are and give thanks for this great land and what we have been blessed with, much we take for granted sad to say. Then pray for God to use you in a mighty way to help be a witness for Him.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for this country. I thank you for the Founding Fathers who acknowledged you and prayed to you as they founded this great land. We pray for revival in the hearts of men. In Jesus' name. Amen.
