March Madness

Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:14-18

To most Americans who follow NCAA basketball they know what March Madness and The Big Dance mean. For purposes of this writing 'March Madness' is referring to the terror that recently struck in Brussels, Belgium and in Pakistan. I am referring to ISIS attacks on innocent human beings, a good majority Christians. There is no love in their hearts although God could come into their hearts and they could be transformed.

These hate filled killing sprees have occurred on American soil with the major one of course being 911. Then there was Ft. Hood Army installation, Boston Marathon, and recently San Bernadino. Our peaceful freedom loving country allowed too many people who hate us to enter freely in the name of a peaceful religion or to help refugees. Sounds good enough. After all we are supposed to love one another, right?

There is an evil force in this world and he is called Satan, the thief. As it says in John 10:10 "The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that you might have life and have it more abundantly." Good and evil have been around since the days of Adam and Eve and the first son in the Garden. They will be here until Jesus comes back to take believers to Heaven. What we need to be doing is not hating like those who strike terror do, but to continue in prayer and also take part in speaking up since we do still have a voice. Do all things in love.

PRAYER: Thank you for the freedom we enjoy in this country. Too long we have taken many things for granted and have not always obeyed you Lord. Forgive me for not speaking out against evil. I will continue to pray that we can remain free and evil men will turn to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Invasive Species

Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.2 Peter 3:17

On a recent hike at a nearby state park,  I passed by a sign posted off to the side of one of the trails which read "Invasive Species" and went on to have four photos of plants or weeds not common to the area which visitors had permission to root up and throw away. I was thinking how nice it would be for mankind if there were obvious signs about the pitfalls to avoid to get you off the path of righteousness. Invasive means "tending to spread harmfully" and that describes sin in so many ways.

There is not one person reading today that can say he or she is without sin for as it says in Romans 3:23 "all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory" so what you and I need to do is to stay in the word and on our knees in prayer so our senses can be discerning between good and evil and right versus wrong. The worldly view of right and wrong is very muddled and not to be trusted.

Today seek Him first thing. Spend time in prayer. Don't just be set apart on Sunday but reach out for God daily. He is waiting. Can't you hear Him knocking?

PRAYER: Guide me each and every day Lord to take the right path in life. Help me as I seek to resist the lures of 'this world' that try to get me to turn my back on you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Evil Among Us

But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 2 Timothy 3:13
I have had people tell me to be careful to not let my devotions become 'political' or I may lose readers. First of all 'politics' in a sense is in God's word. It is a part of life that can not be avoided or brushed under the proverbial politically correct rug. Arguments over 'issues' have ended friendships and separated family members. Satan is loving it all believe me! Satan is the great divider and he has his subjects working on Earth weaving his deceitful evil webs and trapping unsuspecting people into believing his lies.

Many feel we are in the last days. Christians who dare believe, for instance, in traditional marriage,  are called narrow minded and hateful. No where did a person even utter the word they 'hate' someone but because they dare take a moral stand to support God's teaching on traditional marriage, they are labeled and persecuted. It is happening more and more. I have used the illustration before of a frog in a pot of cold water on a stove. Slowly the heat on the stove is turned up till the unsuspecting frog is boiled alive all the time not realizing what is happening. That is sort of what we see happening in our world today in 2016. Wrong is becoming right and right is becoming wrong all the while minds become dull and desensitized to evil and wrong.

Where are you at my friend? We all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory but the word of God is truth and can not be changed not by anyone especially a President and a Supreme Court. You can not legislate God out of society. People have tried but God is not going anywhere. Through every thing I recommend still to walk in love to those who disagree and speak out when you know religious freedom is being mocked. It is our duty.

PRAYER: Father I pray you will keep my senses discerning from right and wrong so I am not led into the schemes of the devil. I pray for any friends or family who may be believing lies of the enemy. I pray for freedom in this nation and for me to shine your light in the world I encounter daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Courage

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9

Lots of things in life take courage. Moving to a new state or country. Changing career paths. Skydiving. Hiking in bear country. Tight rope walking. Driving a race car at 200mph. Moving on in life after a major loss. Turning away from a sin in your life you know is dragging you down. Oh to be courageous. To do the right thing. To move ahead on your journey.

Is there some task you need to develop a healthy dose of courage for? The Bible is or should be your go to guide for becoming a courageous person. The world can send mixed diluted messages of faith and courage. Only by truly listening to truth can you discern what is necessary to prepare you for life and to stay on the right paths.

You come to a fork in the road so to speak and are unsure of which direction to take. Have you prepared your heart by reading God's word on a regular basis or do you just cry out to Him for help in a crisis?Perhaps now is the time to develop a habit of being a man or woman of courage in all situations. Don't let the enemy trick you into being fearful of what you know deep down is right. Stay strong and be courageous.

PRAYER: Courage is about so much more than bravery but it is also about doing the right thing when the world is screaming to do the wrong thing. Give me the strength to always take the high road. In Jesus' name. Amen.

He's Alive!

He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:6

Easter has got to be my favorite holiday. Besides the newness of spring in the region of the country I live in, it symbolize a new beginning and a hope of things to come. Most of you are probably familiar with the Easter story although many people groups throughout the world are not. The awful torture and crucifixion of an innocent man followed by his death and burial in a sealed tomb. But He came back to life on the third day as He said.

Many doubters today do not believe in Jesus or the Bible and the job of we believers is to spread the Easter story and His love to a lost, broken, hateful, and hurting world. Many flock to church on this day and on Christmas thinking it is the right thing to do.Sort of an urging inside of these people makes them know it is where they should be. It is going beyond Easter that really matters.

The good news of Easter also is Jesus is coming back someday. We don't know when,  although signs are foretold. We need to be ready for His coming is near. This day of celebration should also be a day to remember to share Jesus with those who would rather not believe in Him. He set the captives free. Is He living in you today?

PRAYER: Lord God I am so grateful for Easter. Thank you for saving me and taking punishment for my sins on the cross. Use me to reach out to those who may believe differently and help me show your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Sometimes You Just Need To Be Quiet

The mouths of fools are their undoing, and their lips are a snare to their very lives. Proverbs 18:7
It is very difficult for some people to not get the last word. In a heated debate or exchange of words as a believer you need to just be cool. This means no last words, no cuts, no proving yourself, and no retaliation. With email or a text, sometimes it is easy to 'talk back' to someone maybe to get your point in. Take it from yours truly, it is best to leave 'doors shut' and not try to shove them down so to speak.
Have you heard the phrase "the less said the better"? That is often so very true. To ramble on or to try to win verbal battles is not necessarily a loving thing to do. You are sort of known by the words that come out of your mouth. We know in James chapter 3 it says "no man can tame the tongue" but with God's help we can certainly make an attempt to.

Today why not make an effort to be careful how you respond to those you come across. Perhaps give a kind compliment to someone. Be sweet with your words. If someone tries to pick a fight you be the bigger one and nip it in the bud. Ask God to help you control what you say.

PRAYER: Each day I have choices to make Lord. My emotions can cause me to say things I may regret later. Help me keep a watch on my mouth and purpose to only let joyful things come out of it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

'Moderate' Equals Lukewarm

I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:15-16

The word 'moderate' for all intents and purposes when referring to politics means you really don't take either side too seriously. Maybe not wanting to be identified as extremely liberal on the left  or conservative on the right you settle for the in between. Since we are in the midst of election season, I thought I would use that word 'moderate' to indicate maybe how some folks are in their spiritual walk too.

Oh to be identified as a 'Bible thumper', ultra conservative, or Jesus freak I see as a badge of honor. If you identify with Christ you are not to act like you don't know Him in some situations and in others be all in. God knows your heart. You can't hide who you are to Him.  I just tell people "I love the Lord" not that I'm religious as that word stirs up manmade duties in my opinion.

Let me throw this question out for you to ponder. Will a person who is a 'moderate' Christian enter the kingdom of Heaven? Not judging, just asking. Today search your heart and if you are away from God ask why? What has made you leave your first love? Perhaps you have never surrendered your life to Him. Maybe now is the time.

PRAYER: I do not want to be lukewarm when that trumpet blast sounds and you come back for your children. Forgive me if I have ever lived a marginal Christian life or acted ashamed of you. I pray that you will convict those in my family who just don't seem to be in love with you anymore. Help me be a light shining brightly for your kingdom. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Fighting Irish

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times. Matthew 18:21-22

No this is not my follow on devotion to St. Patrick's Day nor is it about Notre Dame or the movie 'Rudy'. It is about extended families and any quarrels that can or do occasionally occur. It could be the fighting Brits, the fighting Swedes, the fighting Africans, the fighting Germans, the fighting Scots, and so forth depending on your ancestral heritage.

Fights and quarrels are bound to occur within families extended or otherwise. Different things bring these squabbles on but the thing is if you find yourself the unwelcome guest in the middle of one to do something to impart peace. Name calling, shouting, stomping out of the room should not be options. If you have never had a family squabble consider yourself rare and fortunate. Arguments don't have to be a part of a person's DNA. Make up your mind you will choose to rise above that and seek to be Christlike and show kindness and respect to people whether they deserve it or not.

Today why not say you're sorry if you have hurt a family member. Make things right and don't give the devil a foothold as he is behind all the disagreements. Don't allow Satan to cause disputes. Show love instead.

PRAYER: Lord your mercies are new every morning. If I have messed up I know you forgive me. Help me to forgive any person in my family I may have been harsh to and seek to be loving and kind always. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Preparation For Curve Balls

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.Psalm 9:9
Everyone is always one phone call away from bad news. Car wrecks, deaths, loss of job. Curve balls of life as I will call them for this writing. You are going along just fine expecting a home run so to speak then zap, here comes that curve ball. Not caused by God although many people sure like to blame Him. I often wonder why folks don't get mad at Satan instead,  but during this time many run away from God when they should in fact embrace Him all the more.

Stuff in life happens and is going to happen. Everyone of us is going to breathe our last breath someday we just do not know when. Babies die in the womb or shortly after birth. Tragedy strikes a young child. A young newlywed is in an accident. A fairly young person is diagnosed with cancer. You can't go through life bemoaning what is to come but instead should be enjoying your life as it is now.

If bad stuff happens know that God knows your pain. He could heal sometimes He does such as in the recent true story depicted in the recently released motion picture 'Miracle From Heaven'. God is real. God is able. God can see you through good times and bad times as well. Don't run away from Him.

PRAYER: Lord you are good all the time. In the good times and the bad you are on the throne. Help me Lord to embrace all the wonderful times of life and give me strength to endure the trying times. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Choose Peace

"Blessed are the peacemakers,  shall be called sons of God." Matthew 5:9
What things in your life keep you stressed? Work, world situation, politics, Facebook, money or lack of it, decisions, children? I have good news! You do not have to allow things in your life to rob you of joy and peace. You can decide to 'choose peace' and continue to pursue it.
To pursue peace or run after it, you consciously decide you will not let things of this world rob you of God given peace. Satan likes nothing better than to have God's children thrown into constant worry. I bet he is jumping for joy now thinking how upset people are over who is going to be our next President. God is not worried. He can and does use everything for the purposes of His glory.
What you can be doing is seeking Him with all your heart. Focus on things above and not the things you can do nothing about. Go on and give it a try. I guarantee you will feel better.
PRAYER: I thank you so much that I do not have to sit around and be overly concerned about things of this world but I do need to be vigilant in praying. Help me Lord to trust you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Word Of Mouth

Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction. 2 Timothy 4:2

What's the best way to get news out? Some may say the internet but really if you have good news to share, word of mouth is best. For instance in the recent movie release of the Christian film 'Risen' when asked "where are  Jesus' disciples" the answer given was "everywhere"!  In our Moms in Prayer International ministry the best method for getting new ladies into groups was sharing about it and handing them a brochure.

When a person is saved some  may have a dramatic testimony of their former carnal life whereas others may have just come in to the fold with nothing dramatic. Sharing these stories helps to testify to the saving grace of Jesus. Sharing about the love of Christ and miracles in life is often done one on one.

Of course we are blessed to have so many forms of communication to get the preaching of the cross out worldwide but when it comes down to it, friendship evangelism is a very workable thing.

PRAYER: Help me Lord not neglect sharing the good news of Christ with those I come into contact with. Help me never be ashamed. Also thank you for all the communication tools at our disposal to also use. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Oh My Oh My. So Many Decisions.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

Yours truly is just about to publish my first ever book, a devotion book,  and am right there except for the illusive cover. Have you ever thought you had the right choice made but just did not have peace? Well that is as of this writing where I am. One of my faults is that I am super impulsive and often do not think things through for as thoroughly as I should.

For women who are married I find it is essential to get your husbands support in your endeavors. Not permission like a child to a parent, but his backing and endorsement so to speak. A Bible study leader I had back in the mid 80's called it "staying under your husbands umbrella". This 'umbrella' of sorts is your protection from the storms of life. Man is under God's umbrella, and woman is under both God's and man's. If she steps out on her own in rebellion she is on her own. The women's lib movement would have me tarred and feathered for what they may feel is old fashioned.

In any decision make sure you pray. Weigh all the facts. I remembered when my son was trying to decide on colleges my husband laid out an engineer flow chart of sorts with pros and cons of each impending choice and ultimately he chose the one he later met his future wife at. Decisions are not always fun but they are a part of life. Just pray and trust God to open doors that need opened and shut doors that should be closed.

PRAYER: I know Lord I could choose unwisely and suffer repercussions from bad choices so help me be still, think, take time, and weigh the facts. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Standing Up Jesus

Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Revelation 2:4
For anyone who is an adult single or used to be, you may have had the unfortunate experience of being stood up or standing someone up. It is hurtful. There could always been a good explanation but never the less it happened.
How do you think Jesus feels when His children stand Him up on a daily and weekly basis? That's what you do you know when everything else takes priority over Him and you just give Him token love maybe on Sunday. He yearns to spend time with you yet you go on day after day and never sit down long enough to give Him quality and quantity time. In effect you 'stand Him up'.
You know the feeling of not being wanted or needed? Well that is how our Lord feels when you want nothing to do with Him. Sure you say grace and pop into church for an hour, maybe, but nothing more. Why not decide now to never stand Him up again.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for being a loving and patient God. You yearn for me to want to be with you and sit at your feet. Satan loves it when I neglect you. Help me to be able to say no to distractions. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Read The Word. Changes Ahead!

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

How many of you may own a Bible, maybe many Bibles? Do you read it on a daily basis? Why or why not? Did you know God's word is the best weapon against the enemy, Satan? How many Christians rush into their day with little more than a quick prayer and maybe don't even take time for reading some of the Bible? Lots of questions I know. I just want you to realize what a magnificent tool is at your disposal if only you would open it up.

Satan of course will use all sorts of tactics to keep you complacent , bored, busy, or disinterested in reading and studying it. The Holy Spirit has to convict people individually on their need for salvation and not just church membership. This means maybe you have to change churches in some cases.

Today instead of starting your day checking on how many 'likes' you have on Facebook or seeing who is ahead in the Presidential races or watching the morning show, commit to not doing anything else till you give the Lord some quality time. If you do not know where to begin, start in the Psalms or Proverbs. Believe me you will start to feel different if you do this daily.

PRAYER: Help me discipline myself in many areas Lord but especially when it comes to getting into the Bible. Direct my steps to do things that are pleasing to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Are You Shoving Jesus Down Someone's Throat?

For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18

The Holy Spirit is the one who has to enter a person's life and convict them of their sin and of right and wrong. Satan blinds the minds of many so they can not hear the truth.  God continually can knock on the door of a person's heart but they have to be the one to say "Come on in Lord".

You know the saying "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink"? The same is true of trying to shove Jesus down a person's throat, so to speak. Trying to force feed someone the truth may often backfire. Bible teacher Joyce Meyer reminds us to not be 'Holy Spirit Junior' in a friend of family member's life. Once the Holy Spirit enters a person then they indeed see the error of their ways.

If there is someone you are close to that you are praying for them to get on the right path with God and Jesus, don't give up praying, but be careful to not force feed them as it may backfire. Speak the truth in love and plant the seeds and believe you eventually will see an increase. Trust God to bring this person to a saving knowledge of Jesus and want to live a fruit bearing life.

PRAYER: Use me Lord in the lives of those in my life who may not know you or who may know you but have gotten away from you and are doing their own thing. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Frustrations And Annoyances

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

Back in the day when computers were fairly new there may have been many problems trying to get connected. Today things are somewhat easier but for a person still not using them all the time it can seem mind boggling. Ever so often it may be hard for we who use them on a regular basis to get a wireless signal and is very annoying and frustrating.

This happened to me recently in a coffee shop I have purposely not gone to very much as each time I could not break the code so to speak and figure out how to connect to Wi Fi. On this day I realized I needed to stay cool and not get mad as I represent Christ wherever I go. Now there is not a huge flashing sign hanging over me saying "Follower of Christ" but certainly I want to bring Him glory in my words and deeds.

Does the peace of God rule in your heart that you can take a deep breath and let things go that would normally upset you? Setbacks and problems can be issues that would cause one to get angry but our job as a believer is to try to represent Him and in a good way. How are you doing today when your patience is tried?

PRAYER: Heavenly Father you are good and glorious. You have seen me and my problems and yet you love me and are patient with me. Give me strength to conquer any area of my life that would normally cause me to explode. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Politics.....Bah Humbug!

Keep reminding God's people of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 2 Timothy 2:14
Of all the election years this one has gotten really dicey for Christians. If a person isn't for certain a believer many scream to not vote for them. Rumors are rampant. Hatred is flying. What is a person to do? People say such and such can't be a Christian just look how they act.
I'll tell you what to do. Don't argue with people. Don't force your opinion on others. Pray for the opposition and the candidates on your side you don't particularly care for. Don't judge someone just because you think they might have voted for someone who doesn't love Jesus. All of us need to mind our own business and display the love of Christ pure, plain, and simple.
Whoever gets on the final ballot in November from both parties has to be prayed for. Our country and the freedom we have enjoyed is at stake. Financial stability, integrity, morality, and military strength is in jeopardy. The enemy can deceive. Pray you won't be a victim of deception.
PRAYER: We can not help but be involved in politics. It is a right and a privilege. Give me discernment Lord and wisdom. No matter what happens help me continue to love friends even with differing opinions. This election is on your hands. We know you have a plan. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Peace Be Still

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

I always like they names of lotions in various hotel chains we stay in. In one hotel  the lotion was called 'Peace Be Still' and I laughed thinking how appropriate that was for 'yours truly' to not get all upset about stuff you can not control. In other words 'go with the flow' and you are a much happier, calmer person. It is something for me I try to do. I am not there yet but am coming right along in my progress.

What area of life are you having trouble being still in? Maybe worry about children. Wondering if you will have enough to money after retirement. Worried a tornado or hurricane will destroy your home. Perhaps concerned about the direction our country is going in. Maybe wondering if there is going to be a war. So many things can cause unnecessary stress and there is no reason we have to allow it to.

God wants you to give Him your burdens. Just think for a moment. Does worry and fret accomplish anything other than giving you illnesses and inability to enjoy life? All the worry in the world is not going to do anything. There are those who may say "well that is just me, I am by nature a worrier." If that is you decide today to get a new nature and a new normal. Why live life consumed by things can not control? Now is the time to start trusting God to work things out.

PRAYER: I realize there is nothing all the worry in the world is going to do to change a situation. Help me Lord rely on prayer instead of scare. Thank you for the peace I can have only through trusting you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stand Still In Your Valleys

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26
Pain and trouble are not fun to endure. For anyone who has been threatened with lawsuits, had friends betray you, been in estate situations with family, a long illness, or had financial difficulties you just sigh and wish it were over.
Remember God has not abandoned you and all things you go through do in fact strengthen you. You often can not see any hope when you are stuck in a valley of despair. You may wonder why on Earth the pain won't stop. The enemy wants you to bail out, pull the plug and just end your life. That is not the plan of God so hang on!!
It is sort of cliche but "all things do work together for the good" as it says in Romans 8:28. After a storm comes a rainbow. Keep believing. Be strong. Above all be still as God is still with you.

PRAYER: You are greater than anything life can throw at me. Guide me into using your wisdom in decisions I make. Help me resist Satan's lies and he has to flee. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I Love You God!

Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.Psalm 99:9

Do you love God? Do you praise His name joyfully? Try this, say over and over "I love you  Lord most high. I praise your name. You are awesome, powerful, and above all. Great is your name and greatly to be praised!" How did that feel? Do it over and over again with enthusiasm. Make believe you are cheering on your favorite sports team. Don't hold back!

What do you think it is going to be like when the King of Glory comes back? Do you suppose people will just say "oh hi there Jesus." No indeed. You will not be able to contain yourself seeing Him in His splendor. Why is it so hard to get excited about Him down here on our temporary earthly home? Maybe you say "oh that's not my church tradition." Forget traditions and focus on God. Really focus on His majesty.

We do not know the day nor the hour our Lord will return. Get excited about serving Him and get excited about His return. He is coming, no doubt about it!

PRAYER: I can imagine there are people who don't know if they will really go to Heaven. Help me be able to speak of how to be saved when confronted. Also help me never neglect my time alone with you each day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Envious? Be Content

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." Hebrews 13:5

Have you ever caught yourself jokingly or otherwise wishing you could do something,  have something, or be somewhere else one of your friends was?  Your friend does not have to work and you envy her. Your neighbor got a new car and you covet one yourself. Someone you know has tremendous travel adventures and you just wish you could be them. You are maybe jealous of another's success or wealth even though they spent years doing what they needed to do to achieve this. You maybe compare your marriage even to someone else's. A friend remodeled their home and you wish you could. Just never satisfied.

The enemy loves us to be discontent. For when we are discontent we are taking our eyes off our own blessings and fixating on someone else instead of rejoicing with them. Romans 12:15 has reminded us to "rejoice with those who rejoice" and this means sharing others successes and joys. Jealousy is not a Christlike trait and something to get a grip on if you tend to do some of the things mentioned in paragraph one. It is human nature to maybe envy but not God's nature.

We each have so much to give God thanks for and each of us is gifted and blessed in unique and different ways. Take your focus off Facebook posts which can tend to make people envy and get your eyes on Jesus and thank Him for what He has done for you.

PRAYER: Thank you so much for creating me in my mother's womb Lord. You hide me in special ways and have blessed me. Forgive me if I ever become jealous of another and help me nip it in the bud before it takes over. In Jesus' name. Amen.

No Other gods

"You shall have no other gods before me". Exodus 20:3
There is only one true God. We are to worship only Him. But how many of us look to many other idols or god's to satisfy us? I thought about this during the recent broadcast of the Academy Awards in Hollywood. How many people idolize celebrities? I have done it, I confess. The children of the legendary Olympic Gold Medalist in Track and Field, Jesse Owens, whose life is depicted in the recent hit movie release 'Race' said as children, they were unaware their dad was famous. There wasn't TV like today and all the hoopla. Now we elevate celebrities almost above God.

Maybe your 'god' isn't a person, but instead a hobby, the lottery, a career, an obsession of sorts you spend most of your free time on. Our lives need proper balance in order to insure what is important truly is identifiable as important, not just because we say it is. Do you elevate anything else higher than God? Think that over and ask God to reveal to you if you do and convict you of it.
The Oscars sadly push agendas and in many ways are devoid of God. I keep waiting for a recipient to look up and thank Jesus for their talent and success. I choose to not watch them and try to be careful what films I go to as well. Above all pray for these 'mere men'. We need Jesus. Pure, plain, and simple. Hollywood needs Jesus. Pro athletes need Jesus. Presidents need Jesus. Go seek Him and Him alone today and everyday. He is way better than Oprah or The National Championship in Football.

PRAYER: I am ever so grateful to live in a time when I can go to movies and watch hundreds of TV stations and also have so many things available for me to do. Help me Father to search my heart and make certain nothing I do is being elevated to a god like status. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Keep Your Focus On Him!

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10

So many people get turned off by politics and by those who dare write something about them in a Christian devotions. Well let's rename politics, concern for our country,  for the purpose of this writing. Lately so much anger, division, and lies has been spread. The populace is fearful and confused. We love our country and what it stands for and we want it back.

2 Chronicles 7:14 is a verse I first heard at a rally entitled 'Washington for Jesus' back in 1980. Yes in 1980 a massive amount of people were concerned even 36 years ago! I was in attendance in the nation's Capitol. Since this event occurred things steadily got worse. Why? Doesn't God care? Yes of course He does, but mankind has a free will and many have chosen to ignore His word and not take being a Christian seriously.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says the following "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." We have to not just read this verse but we have to truly do what it says. God is giving us another chance. Are you ready to follow His word and sincerely love and sincerely pray?

PRAYER: I cry out to you Lord God. Ultimately you decide who is in office in our nation. This does not mean it is the perfect person but may at times be a judgment on our complacency and separation from you. Open my eyes Lord to the truth. Help me follow your word and not be in fear over mere man but trust you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Love Does Not Have To Mean Sex

Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. Hebrews 13:4

I love chick flicks and many of my girlfriends do as well. What bothers me is the way the films have to go 'south' so to speak, in the realm of trying to make its viewers think what  love is.  For instance, a couple is attracted to each other and in two dates they are shown in bed together. This is what our young people are growing up seeing as normal. Sexuality in all its' forms has been perverted and no longer seen as peculiar or abnormal.

God is who we are here to please. We are to live in this world but not be of the world. Today's society with its' messed up thinking on morals and purity is a challenge for those who know the truth. Those Christians who dare speak up about sexuality as Christ sees it are vilified. So much for free speech and right of conscience.

As a follower of Christ we are called to be set apart not to cave in to political and worldly pressure. Be strong and be kind and show mercy. And above all keep praying and speaking the truth in love to a confused world.

PRAYER: Purity is important. Our enemy the devil has confused many people's minds as to what is found in the Bible. Help me as I stand strong and stand for moral purity in a world gone crazy. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Jesus To The World

Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to Angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2

The scenario was a stormy dark morning as I drove into Redstone Arsenal. As I proceeded down the road towards the post, before arriving at the security gate I saw a man in baggy pants, unkept hair, carrying plastic bags. He was covered up by a hoody. Not sure his story but I felt so terrible as I drove past him all dry in my nice car. There is a safety issue for a woman alone approaching a strange man so I drove on by like most others.

After this occurrence I said to myself, how many of us daily pass by people who are truly down and out? We all have seen those posted at interstate exits holding the sign saying they need money for food and in many cases those people are doing it fraudulently. But if deep inside your spirit is speaking to you to help someone as long as it is not at risk to your own safety do it.

Bible teacher Joyce Meyer often says to maybe buy some gift cards and have them ready just in case you have the opportunity to be a blessing to someone. We never know if it is going to be us needing help someday. You really never do know if the person maybe is an angel in disguise. Just something to think about.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for blessing me. I am rich in the eyes of many. Help me be attune to any persons crossing my path who may need a kind word, some cash, or some other form of help. The best help I can be is to be Jesus to them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

What's In A Name?

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
Shine, Shepherd, Boost, Goforth, and Light are just a few of the last names of friends who have what I call 'inspirational' last names. 'Shine' for Jesus. 'Shepherd' the flock of God. Knowing God gives us a 'Boost'. 'Goforth' and preach. Jesus is the 'Light' of the world. Surnames or last names used to be given by a persons trade such as Smith, Miller, Cooper, Boatwright, and I am sure you can easily think of more. I just find it very interesting. Also spellings changed too as probably folks could not spell or things were written wrong. My maiden name has various variations of Juett, Jewett, and Jouette.

Often times parents name their babies Christian names for the meaning behind them. Our two sons are Matthew and Jonathan. Matthew means 'Gift of God' and Jonathan means 'God has given'. Special babies deserve special names.  We are all God's children too. Some of us accept Him and other reject Him. Christian parents desire is that their children love and serve Jesus.

Have you named the name of Jesus? Is He Lord of your life and does He hold first place in your life daily or just when you feel like it? If you know you need to turn from evil and turn back to God do it today. Also if you are just sort of Ho hum about your walk with Him why not reflect on why and turn back to Him as well. He is the name above all other names by which men are saved. Call His name today!

PRAYER: Today, not tomorrow, I need to decide I am all in for you and not just on Sunday. Use me in the lives of those around me to draw them to you. Search my heart and get rid of anything Lord that is making me believe lies of the enemy. In Jesus' name.Amen.

Stop Tailgating Me!

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20
There are things in life that could be a pet peeve or just drive you nuts. Sometimes it may be  to the point you could lose your God given peace and joy and get mad. One of mine, which I seemed to have gotten victory over, is those vehicles who like to get right on your bumper and tailgate. I just do not want to get rear ended. My husband says to focus in front of me and  ignore this person.
Is there some thing you need to ignore that is driving you crazy? An irritating co worker. Rude store clerk. Inconsiderate drivers. Whatever it is, our aim as a believer is to be Christlike in all situations. Some times it may take a few tests and trials to get you to have victory in a certain area.
If you claim to know the Lord,  you then,  are His ambassador here while He has given you breath on this Earth. Part of your job is to represent Him well. I heard a saying once that said "if you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you" and that is something to really give some thought to. So what behavior do you need to ignore today and who do you need to pray to have more patience with?

PRAYER: Each day Lord we face things where we are challenged as a believer how to respond. I know I am to respond in love, humility, and with grace. Use me in the lives of those around me to share your love and help calm me when I feel irritated. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Supremes

The LORD is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me? Psalm 118:6

Recently conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin G. Scalia passed away unexpectedly at the age of 79. All of a sudden this tragic and sad event sent the country into a whirlwind. Who would our president suggest to fill this vacated seat long the pivotal vote in Constitutional issues and morality? Fear set in. Talks of blocking any appointment until after the 2016 elections were held.

These 9 people, 'The Supremes' as I will call them, not even elected, but appointed and approved through the Senate, hold so much of our fate in the balance. Sometimes they rule on things they have no business ruling on. If the court works correctly all is well, but when it gets radical and forgets God and the Constitution then we are in trouble. We tend to become fearful and think life as we know it is over. Newsflash! You need not fret. Read that verse above again.

Isaiah 33:22 which says "The Lord is our judge, the Lord if our lawgiver, the Lord is our king, it is he who will save us" was used in setting up government to make the three branches. Our nation was indeed founded on God and using the Bible. Forces of evil have been trying to remove God and Christianity from the United States of America. He is not going anywhere, so do not fret. We the people need to be in prayer like never before but know that God indeed does have our back.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for this young country, the United States of America. When we followed your laws and loved you, you blessed up but when we turned out back on you you let us have our own way. Oh Father wake the people up and let them repent and turn back to you. Turn evil hearts to good. Renew the minds of those who have been led astray by Satanic forces. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I'm Stoked And Can't Hold It In!

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7

After a superb sermon and worship experience on a recent Sunday, I could not contain myself. I got out of my car at Kroger's to go in for coffee and to post my writing for the day, and could not stop smiling and singing a praise song, 'My Chains Are Gone'. Send me to the looney bin right? The 'world' would probably do that.

Are you excited to be a Christian? Do you look forward to time alone with Him daily not just Sunday? You have to be intentional about planning your day around God. It becomes easy to let worldly pursuits squeeze Him entirely out. Oh, you may rush off to church each Sunday in a dutiful way but with no real joy. Maybe the church you go to doesn't even get you excited about living for Jesus.

Try this. Wake up. Put the newspaper away. Don't turn on the morning show. Keep social media off too. Purpose in your heart you will not allow the world to shape and influence you with its' wrong way of doing life. It's either the worlds way or God's way. Which do you choose?

PRAYER: I am excited to be a part of your family Lord. I pray for those I may know who aren't excited about you. Draw them close to you. Send people across their path that will help them be excited to serve you again. In Jesus' name. Amen.

A Companion Of Fools

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20
When I was in my formative years my parents taught me the value and importance of good friends. The wrong kind of relationships can ruin your life. Also to hang out with hot tempered and  gossipy people may cause you to pick up their bad habits.
Another verse for today from 1 Corinthians 15:33 says "Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character." Also bad companions keep you from thinking sensibly and rationally. As a parent I continue to pray for the friendship choices of my adult children.
Don't catch yourself getting self righteous and starting to talk about bad people. Pray and pray hard. We all are subject to falling into bad habits and none of us is perfect. Pray that you will be wise to evil and wrong company.

PRAYER: Help me look to you in guidance for who to choose as my friends insuring they are filled with Christ, joy, and love. Help me set a example. Break any wrong relationship choices in my children's lives. In Jesus' name.

Our Patriotic Privilege

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people he chose for his inheritance. Psalm 33:12

Today is a huge day in our nation for presidential primaries particularly here in the Southeast where I reside. I actually know people who even though they could vote, choose not to for whatever reason. Reasons are apathy, don't think it matters, too busy. Whatever the excuse given in this nation,  we are blessed to have a voice. I was so excited when I turned 18 and go to cast my vote, sometimes not wisely but never the less I went to the polls.

Statistics I heard were something like 14 million Evangelical registered voters did not vote in 2012. Don't quote me. Imagine had they turned out how the outcome may have changed.

When a believer votes they should vote the Bible as I like to call it. This nation was founded by God fearing Patriots and slowly Satan got his evil clutches on people who led us far away from that. Christians have a responsibility to not vote Republican, Democrat, or Libertarian and yes some even Socialists, but to vote to uphold things in God's word. You know marriage, life, liberty, family, morals. Pray and then go vote!

PRAYER: Give me wisdom as I cast my vote. Help those people who are apathetic see the value in making choices in elections. I pray for the person who loves you and who will keep this nation safe. In Jesus' name. Amen.
