Crunch Time?


"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Matthew 24:26

As Christmas approached recently and many people waited until the last minute to shop, it became crunch time. Maybe you were one of those hustling on the 24th to get those last minute gifts before stores closed early.

There is another ‘crunch time’ and you and I have no clue when it will happen. That is the time when the Son of God, Jesus will return in the clouds with great glory. All sorts of people have tried to predict it and yes, Biblical prophecy leading up to this event has occurred recently at a rapid pace but yet no one at all knows when this will be.

This is THE most important crunch time ever and now is the time without further delay to make sure and certain  you are indeed READY. Do you care to grow closer to the Lord daily or is He and after thought? Maybe now is the time as the new year approaches to change up a few things in your life to make Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit a true priority. 

PRAYER: Christmas may be over but let me never put you away like I do my coffee table top manger scene but instead to not let daily obligations push you to the sidelines. Forgive me if I was even guilty of this on your birthday Christmas while I engaged in the manmade frivolity of it all. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Just Go!


We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith. 
Romans 12:6

Do you often have grandiose ideas about how you can serve others but something happens and you never follow through due to a host of reasons or excuses one maybe being fear. I know I have. Maybe on that list of New Years  resolutions you can add “follow through” or “just go”!

Go into the schools, the stores, the churches, the homes, or yes even the far off mission field. Many ‘mission fields’ are right in your own community. The fear factor of taking the first step has to be nipped in the bud. You and I are not placed on this earth to just serve ourselves and take selfies the rest of our life but instead to impact the world you are placed in. 

How can you make a difference even today? 

PRAYER: Lord forgive me for not following through on plans to reach out to others. Open doors that can not be shut for opportunities and help me recognize them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Trouble Is Not In Your Set..Please Standby


Hot tempers cause arguments, but patience brings peace. Proverbs 15:18

Back in the Golden Age of television of which I am proudly a member of you would get three maybe four channels. TV would sign off at midnight and occasionally there would be technical difficulties and a message would pop up on screen that was the same as today’s title.

Today humans don’t like delays. Fast food, instant pudding, connectivity on demand. An impatient bunch we are, which is sad. Many need to learn to sit and be still and take a breath.

Be thankful for modern conveniences and don’t allow breakdowns to get you all upset. Just imagine what if you had no electricity, water, and all the rest. God is good and he will take care of you.

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I get peeved about things too slow or stuff that is broken down. Help me to remember to give thanks in ALL things. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t Even Go There!


We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

You have probably heard the phrase “an idle mind is the devils workshop” and there is much truth to this. When you don’t stay busy or have too much time on your hands you can say and do things you may regret later. 

The mind can start controlling you as you start to conjure up scenarios that don’t exist or aren’t relevant. Satan is a master at trying to get your thoughts off Christ and things ‘above’ and to get you into a pit instead. You have to take control of your thinking, period, before it controls you. 

When you notice your mind drifting into places it doesn’t belong stop right there and ask for Holy Spirit to help you break this stronghold. Getting your mind into submission to Christ is a key ingredient of a healthy Christian Walk. 

PRAYER: Lord I need my thoughts on you and not anywhere else. Help me be disciplined about what I allow in my mind such as tabloid stories,  bad news, wrong reading material because I want you there and nothing else. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Where Is Baby Jesus?



pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ. Ephesians 3:16-18 
Christmas 2018 is behind us. For some it is a major relief as it was more of a marathon chore list than a celebration of the saviors birth. Now is the time to get that cup of tea and put your feet up and ponder what this holiday was and is. 

Slow down. Start making a mental list of things you want to change as 2019 approaches. Look for ways to be helpful beyond 25 December. Maybe it is time to get serious about Jesus on the other 364 days and truly let worshipping and knowing Him become a priority for you and your family. 

God is patient and wants no one to perish but when people outright worship other god’s and reject him they have failed to grasp the love of Christ because Satan has distracted and deceived them. I pray for you as the new year approaches you will always be able to find the baby Jesus. 

PRAYER: Thank you  for the wonder of the day of your birth Lord. Help it never become just another day. I pray for many who attend church only on this Christmas to learn how to be saved and follow you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thumpety, Thump, Thump


This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." Luke 2:12

This time of year brings merriment, jolly songs, family outings, gifts, Christmas trees, cookies, egg nog and Santa but where is the baby Jesus in all this? It’s fine to sing happy little songs and celebrate but do you really celebrate for the right reason and keep Jesus up front or is he an after thought?

All these secular traditions seem to take center stage and in the big scheme of things the best way to recognize the birth of our savior is to keep it simple. Don’t wear yourself out trying for perfection. Teach your children who Saint Nick was but do not make him the center piece of Christmas.

Jesus really is the reason for this season and for every season. It is through him we have life, forgiveness, and freedom.

PRAYER: I love Christmas and what it stands for and the added extras are fun but help me never let them overshadow the babe in a manger. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Ho, Ho, No!


For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, pure, plain, and simple so where did all these reindeer, elves, trees, cards, shopping, lollipops, movies, carols, egg nog, Grinch, cookies, and the rest come from? Merriment is just fine and some things are rooted in some old traditions but overall the emphasis for this special day is a baby boy born in a manger(feeding trough in a barn) to save us from our sins. 

Christmas brings the opportunity to help others, give presents, get together with friends and family, so it is a happy time of year,  but also brings with it the stress of family issues, gift buying, travel,  credit card bills, loneliness for shut ins, obligatory celebrations, parties, and hurt feelings. Oh if we could all just focus on the Christ child and keep things simple. 

Try to have some alone time today to thank God for this gift of his son whose specific purpose was to save us from our sins. Remember what this day is really all about. 

PRAYER: Thank you that today we get to celebrate the gift of the the birth of a tiny baby who became King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Help me not forget what this day is all about. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

He Has, He Will, He Will Continue. Rock On!


We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about the troubles we experienced in the province of Asia. We were under great pressure, far beyond our ability to endure, so that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt we had received the sentence of death. But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead. He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us again. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor granted us in answer to the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:8-11

What if things came easy when it comes to deliverance? What would you learn from it? If you prayed and poof, the answer happened would you still seek after Jesus? Probably not because you got what you wanted. 

Prayer is a process. I know people who mock the power of prayer and wonder why bother. To me that is heart breaking because if they don’t pray the devil has them fooled. A slippery slope to be on for sure doubting prayer. Prayer should not be an after thought and certainly should not just be at meal time. 

Read the verses above again and dwell on their meaning. God uses all sorts of stuff for his glory and in his timing. The ‘pray-er’ and the person being prayed for are both benefitting from the process. His ways are not our ways it says in Isaiah 55:89. Believe receive, doubt do without. 

PRAYER: Father God my heart aches for those who make fun of prayer and those who pray. Capture their hearts to know you more and heal hurts that God them to that point. I need the ability to know your timing is best when I pray as well. Give me ability to be still. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Charging and Staying Charged


Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.Hebrews 12:2

Today we live in a time where seemingly everything needs to be charged to stay working, cell phones and computers being the first two that come to mind. You have to connect to a viable power source of electricity to maintain your charge on your device. Most people I know can barely stand to exist without their mobile phone. 

In your spiritual life it is also necessary to stay charged up and to do this it is essential to read the Bible, study the Bible, pray, and just keep saturated with all things Christian. You can’t be effective for the kingdom when your spiritual battery is running on low yet how many of us tend to let this area of life slide. Even after numerous sermons on putting Christ first, do you? 

I challenge you as you begin to turn the calendar page to a brand new year to commit to doing something different in this area of your life. Don’t just say it but get serious. You wouldn’t let your phone battery die so don’t let your spiritual battery die either. 

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I need you to stay strong and to overcome junk that infiltrates my life. You are not a hobby but my life. I pray you will help me not cast judgment on others who are not serious but pray for them and help me to stand strong and get plugged in to you daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Confess Jesus All Day Long


Deliver me, my God, from the hand of the wicked, from the grasp of those who are evil and cruel. 
Psalm 71:24

What is on your mind right now? Christmas? Politics? Hatred of a politician? Anger at someone? Your massive to do list? Now is the time to stop what you are doing momentarily and take a praise and Jesus break. If you don’t the world will gobble you up.

All throughout your day get in the habit of saying “thank you Lord for protecting me and my family.” You can just take little praise moments during your day and realize what is really important and what truly matters. When you get hyper focused on world concerns, even within your own little world,  you often end up not glorifying God in your actions or thoughts. Think on that for a moment.

Today and every day is the time to make positive confessions and thoughts part of your marching orders. Don’t get overly consumed and drug into a pit by the junk in this world. Bring glory to God in your words, deeds, and thinking. 
PRAYER: I love to remain in a positive mindset and need help to break and demolish any strongholds that may have taken root. I choose this day and every day to stay lifted up. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Praising God


For you are my hope O Lord God. You are my trust from my youth. By you I have been upheld from birth. You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of you. Psalm 71:5-6

Who or what is your hope in? Hopefully Jesus. Some reading may have prodigals in their family who have lost their passion for all things Christian. The pull of the ways of the world and lies of the enemy has captivated and confused many.

Pray the above verse believing and desiring more for yourself but also for anyone in your family who has lost their way. God hears you and loves your children more than you do.
Continue your faith walk and never tire of praying and insure you make it part of your day.

Turn off morning shows and pray. Turn off the music on way to your office and pray. Sincere crying out to God touches His heart. Don’t lose hope and let God see you smile as you trust in Him for miracles.

PRAYER: Lord your word is true and forgive me when I get caught up on the world and shove you out of my day. I choose to walk with you daily trusting you for setting those free in my life who no longer desire you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The Pulpit Should Influence Everyday Life



The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free. Luke 4:18

A church that follows the Bible should indeed have a positive changing effect on culture and the people in the church.  You don’t just go to church to feel good then leave and lead an immoral unloving existence till the following Sunday. A true Bible believing church should bring a desire to know Jesus better and change. 

Your Bible should serve as your moral compass. The Bible should bring true moral change to a heart if that person has asked Jesus to come in and change them. 

Always remember our battle is against Satan not the flesh so in this battle of right and wrong and good versus evil know that demonic forces often capture and blind people to knowing what is right. Don’t get mad at them but at the enemy of our souls. 

PRAYER: During this time of year many flock to churches as the ‘right thing to do’ on Christmas and my prayer is lives are changed and many would seek a personal relationship with Jesus that goes beyond The Christmas season. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lay It On Me Mr.Music Man!


Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid. Proverbs 12:1


In the Hollywood movie ‘I Can Only Imagine’ about the life of Bart Millard the leader of the Christian band Mercy Me, his impatience almost jeopardized their bands rise to stardom. When several music agents came to listen to them in Nashville, Bart, played by actor J. Michael Finley, could not wait for the meeting between his producer Scott Bickel, played by Trace Adkins, and these professional scouts to be complete and barged into the meeting room saying “I want to know what they think” and it nearly backfired on him. He used the words of my title when addressing these important music industry personnel. Not the wisest thing to do. 

Do you often find it hard to wait and be patient and at times your impulsivity has caused pain or embarrassment?  Maybe  you don’t like words of constructive criticism either. Sometimes correction hurts but it is just what is needed to move you forward. Perhaps some doors have to shut before windows open. 

Is it time to sit and be still and wait on God’s timing for something? It is difficult. Learn to wait and learn with God’s help and pray before you act on something. Also in the discipline you endure ask God to help open your eyes to what it is you need to learn. 

PRAYER: I am not always right Lord and maybe sometimes feel I am. Forgive me for that. Give me grace when I receive constructive criticism and strength to wait for your timing in all situations. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Just Spend Time With Me



“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.  In the world ye shall have tribulation:  but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33


The solution to so many of life situations and issues bearing down on us is found in the words of my title for today as if Jesus were speaking these words “Just spend time with me!” 

Depressed? Just spend time with me. Feeling lonely? Just spend time with me. Feeling worthless? Just spend time with me. Feeling confused? Just spend time with me. Those five little words if applied in life could result in you and I feeling better self esteem, courage, joy, happiness, more energetic, less doubt, and no fear. 

When you don’t spend time with Jesus in his word your perspective on things is clouded to say the least. It becomes very easy to slip into a poor pitiful me mode or let the ‘world’ transform you into its thinking. Stand up and say no more! Say “I will spend time with Jesus and I reject wrong or negative thinking”. Cheer up and march on to victory!

PRAYER: Father sometimes I hear negative things contrary to a Christian worldview and I become forlorn and mostly because I have taken my eyes off of you. Forgive me. It is not my job to get people to think right but that is the Holy Spirits’ job. I thank you for the peace I can only  experience from running hard after you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Joy To The World

May  the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
This time of year for some brings on forced merriment. Perhaps a person has suffered a loss, a sickness, financial problem, and many other things that don’t make life so hunky dory and certainly not joyful. 
The reason for the season, pardon the cliche, is in fact Jesus birthday celebration, nothing more, nothing less. Manmade traditions have popped up over the years but it boils down to one thing and one thing only. The birth of a baby in a manger, or in a shed or barn to put it in modern day context. 
I implore every reader to stop,breathe, get off the ‘must do’ treadmill, sit down and get your Bible and a cup of tea and just think of reasons you are blessed. All of us are you know? Don’t try to make this a perfect Christmas but just be yourself and don’t force anything. 
PRAYER: Joyful is a nice word and I love feeling that way but sometimes I allow worldly pressure to conform to a standard to make me less than joyful. Help me Lord as I choose to worship you and sit at your feet. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Prayer Walk Wherever You Are


I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Joshua 1:3
Prayer walking is simply the act of walking and praying at the same time. Usually for a specific thing such as the area you are walking in. Obviously you would be praying silently if many people are around but you would remain constantly in an attitude of prayer. You can prayer walk your school campus, the nation’s Capitol, around your home, in your neighborhood, in front of the city building, near an abortion clinic. Be creative and wherever there is a need just go walking and praying. Don’t enter property that says ‘no trespassing’ though. 
You can also pray ‘while you walk’ except not necessarily for where you are walking at that time. Focus on the beauty of nature around you, your freedoms, and what God is doing in your life or life of a loved one. If you see a police car go by pray for them and a law abiding society. When you look up in the sky and see a plane pray for the safety of those on board and the skills of the pilot and crew. You probably get the idea. 
The Holy Spirit directs you in this endeavor. Prepare your heart ahead of time by your own private time in prayer and scripture reading. Ask God to remove any wrong attitudes or thinking and direct your heart on things above. Kind of hard to be mad, upset,and worried when focusing on God. Now go pray on! 
PRAYER: Oh Father God my heart yearns for you in a dry weary land. When the pressures of life seem overwhelming help me remember you are only a prayer away. Help me not just think of my own needs but give me creative ideas for prayer walking. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Insulated?


A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Mark 1:40-41

Pretty much everyone probably reading this may be insulated from those people in society no one wants to touch or help. The beggar on the corner, the lady wrapped up in a blanket over a heating vent on the sidewalk, the mentally ill man picking up trash along the side of the roadway, the person in the soup kitchen line, the lonely widow in a nursing home. Homeless, drug addicts, prisoners, runaways. 

Jesus does not want us to be insulated. Brothers and sisters in Christ we have a job to do not just at Christmas but year round to help others out. Sometimes it may take you a bit of your comfort zone but isn’t that the point? You and I need to look at others how Jesus looks at them. With love, compassion, tenderness. 

Pray today and see what The Holy Spirit may be prompting you to do or get involved in with a group. You flourish and grow in Christ when you reach out to help others. The sure fire way to snap you out of a depressive slump is to find someone to help. When you do don’t announce it to the world to feel good about yourself but remain silent. God knows and He is smiling. 

PRAYER: Sometimes it is scary reaching out of my comfort zone to cheer up another person or meet a need. Help me not be timid but also to use wisdom. Direct my path to an individual who may need help. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Wandering Sheep

All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins  of us all.Isaiah 53:6

Many people who have never known the Lord are wandering in confusion and complacency. They see no  need for ‘religion’ then there are the group of those who wandered away from their devotion and love for the Lord. No time for Him, no desire for Bible reading, no need for a ‘building’ to go to each Sunday. The zeal they once had was squished and now they are like lost sheep. Their own life and desires always come first.

Some who wander don’t think they need Jesus. Life is filled with so much to do and they are doing just fine why do they need ‘religion’? Until the Holy Spirit convicts a person of their need then the wandering will continue.

Maybe you know one of these wandering ‘sheep’ and you want so desperately for them to be in love with Jesus and live their life for Him. Continue to pray, don’t lose heart, and ask Jesus to call the wanderers home.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for saving my soul and for giving me a desire to seek you daily. I pray for those I may know who seemingly care less about things of the Spirit that the Holy Spirit would bring conviction. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff, Really?


But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. Matthew 12:36
Little minor things can get to you if you choose to let them. Cancelled flights is one I dealt with recently then having some liquid over three ounces being confiscated by TSA. Minor. Not worth ruffled feathers and potential high blood pressure. 
Even your reaction to things not so minor such as a job loss, probation, speeding ticket, losing a credit card and on the list can go, matters to God. These last things can be highly upsetting and impact your life more but still it is how you react and handle it that matters. 
Big and small things matter to God. There will always be someone watching you to see how you handle the frustrations of life whether you are a good ambassador for the kingdom or one who needs a little work establishing peace. Make sure your reactions in every situation bring glory to God. 
PRAYER: Father at times when I feel justified in spouting out help me control my tongue realizing I represent you and am always on duty. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Vending Machine Christianity



Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. Colossians 4:2

Pastor James Macdonald of Walk in The Word TV and Vertical Church in Chicago, 
did a series on faith where the believer was not really serious only going through quick motions to check off the block. He gave the example of grabbing a snack here and there but pointing out that you would not want to constantly live on vending machine snacks.

God has given his best by giving us His Son so why do we have such a hard time giving Him five minutes? This is why I recommend DAWG days (Day alone with God) where you purposely get away to a park where it is quiet, without your phone and just give God praise and glory which he so greatly deserves. 

Don't give up on God just because a prayer is not answered. Be fervent in prayer not just casual. Persist, press on, and give God quality time. Prayer also changes the person praying so don't rush through it and get specific. God wants to hear your heart. Go beyond the 'God is great God is good' prayer and get serious with God. 

PRAYER: Lord I need you or I need you. Every hour I need you. Forgive  me when I have been lazy in my daily prayers. Forgive me when I have not stood up for you Lord. I choose fervent prayer. In Jesus' name. Amen.

When He Spoke...You Can Speak



As it is written: "I have made you a father of many nations." He is our father in the sight of God, in whom he believed-the God who gives life to the dead and calls into being things that were not. Romans 4:17

In the Bible God  speaks to us through His words. If you are His follower you can claim His promises and speak truth into a situation. To do this you need to know his word and that requires reading and studying it. 

Colossians 1:9-10 has been a favorite verse I pray and personalize for many family members close to me. It says “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the LORD and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” 

Satan will attempt to get you to stop praying and convince you it has no power. If he is successful eventually your prayer life will dry up and he has won. Don’t let that happen! Be strong in the Lord and claim His promises!

PRAYER: Dear Lord I thank you for your word. Forgive me for those days I don’t even open it. Also forgive me for other days when I don’t even bother to wholeheartedly pray. I believe your word and I choose to let it guide and strengthen me daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Barrier

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11

Recently I sprayed the barrier around our home with insect killer to make sure no unwanted ‘guests’ entered. This ‘shield’ was to stop these bugs in their tracks. I almost sound like a commercial for ‘Raid’. 
Is there a barrier around your life to protect you from the attacks of the  enemy?
You protect your home and property but what about your spirit?  Protection is necessary in order for you to be strong in the Lord and fight spiritual battles that are sure to come your way. 
Your protection comes from knowing and reading the word of God and claiming His promises in certain situations. If you don’t make time in your day for quiet time how will be able to withstand attacks from Satan? Many people are well intentioned but then just let their Bible gather dust. The enemy rejoices when that occurs. Stop now and get that protective barrier up daily!
PRAYER: Help me Lord to get my mind under submission to the Holy Spirit and not allow situations or people to drag me down into depression or despair. I choose to daily  read your word even when I don’t feel like it. Help me break strongholds of laziness keeping me from growing strong in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Fear Not

I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Psalms 34:4
What brings fear to your heart? It is natural for many things to bring fear but know this that the Lord is with you as your comfort. If you can focus on Him and not what is scaring you or robbing your peace and joy you will feel 100 times better.
Fear is a response that is part of our created human makeup but you don’t have to let it disable you or get you freaked out. For the purpose of this writing I am not referring to naturally frightening things like roller coasters, rappelling off a sky scraper, black bear standing right in front of you, sky diving, flying and the like, but things like death, terminal illness, the dark, and anything that gets you anxious or scared. 
Life has challenges for sure but it is how you choose to handle these that counts. Let God be your comfort. The enemy of your soul, Satan, is the author of fear and confusion and bad junk. Say “Lord I have this and with your help all will be well.” Now go face your fears with peace and assurance. 
PRAYER: Father God I don’t want to let uncertainties of life get me fearful. The remedy to a fearful spirit is having one where you are Center place. I choose to let you be my comfort. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Capture Thoughts


We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
What you choose to think about is pretty important. Thinking about things comes as a result of where your mind ‘camps out’ at. Is it ‘camped’ at suggestive movies or television programs? Is it ‘camped’ on the past and mistakes you have made? Is it ‘camped’ trying to figure stuff out? 
You get the point. It is essential to make your mind dwell on good things and you do this by putting good things into it. Think good things and do it on purpose. If you are constantly putting things into your brain/mind that drag you down then obviously your thoughts are not focused on ‘above’.
Intentionally decide that you will start your day with scripture. Today is 8 December so read both Psalm 8 and Proverbs 8 to get your started. Make time to sincerely have a prayer time. This may take finding a quiet uninterrupted place. For some with little ones at home that may be difficult. Whatever it takes make sure capturing wrong thoughts becomes a priority. 
PRAYER: Every day when I get up I can choose what to think or not think. It is up to me. I choose to think on things above and resist the devil’s attempts to get me to dwell in a pit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

This Is My Country


It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

Back in junior high I was in a choir that sang the song ‘This is My Country’ and it’s lyrics have stuck with me to this day. Freedom is a priceless commodity here in these United States and as the late 40th President Ronald Reagan said “freedom is only one generation from extinction” and that is not a statement to be taken lightly. Evil men and women are always lurking to try to steal the American dream. 

On this day in 1941 the Japanese did a surprise attack on the naval fleet at Pearl Harbor thus provoking the US into World War 2 which had begun in 1939. If we are not on guard daily as citizens and a country, this could in fact happen again.( Remember the Twin Towers on 1 September 2001.) Obviously not from the Japanese but anti American forces who despise liberty, truth, Christianity, and freedom. 

What can you do? Pray for your leaders. Don’t hate those you disagree with or who are doing evil but pray the Holy Spirit would grab their hearts and transform them. Demonic forces are behind the evil not a human man. Don’t wish evil on anyone but pray for God to do His work. Speak up when you see something not right. Above all thank the Lord daily for your gift of freedom and for the ‘greatest generation’ who answered the call to protect and defend our country in World War 2 and for those service members still serving. 

PRAYER: Thank you for freedom. I lift up our President to you and His cabinet as they daily make crucial decisions for our nation. I pray for morality to return to this land. I pray for God to be first place in all areas of government. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hurt, Assumptions, Moving On


But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44

Don’t let wrong thoughts be your dwelling place. I have to keep ‘writing on’ because I don’t want to keep being a pit dweller. Perhaps when I heal myself I too can help others get some relief if you too experience this.

May I first applaud those not on Facebook because social media is a huge source of dwelling in the wrong places. You are not a mind reader and there is no way you know what anyone is thinking. Don’t even go there. Lift the name of Jesus’ higher than the issues you are dwelling on. Only Satan wants you to grovel and become incapacitated for The Kingdom.

Let stuff go, be still, and be quiet. God loves you and that is all that matters. Go shine for Jesus! 

PRAYER: Lord my stronghold is in my mind and thoughts and I know you are much greater than any strongholds. I choose to run hard after you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Embrace Where You Are...Age Wise


Love and faithfulness keep a king safe; through love his throne is made secure. The glory of young men is their strength, gray hair the splendor of the old. Proverbs 20:28-29

If you live an average life span you will be around for a while. So many people get caught up with the number of how old they are. You turn 31 and freak out. Get to 40 even worse. Then look out for 50 and beyond.

Why dread your age. Be thankful for each year and each spot and wrinkle that pops up.
Every person is valuable in God’s eyes even though when you reach a certain number you may feel like your life is over. Only if you don’t change your attitude it is. If you are young respect those who have a few years on you. You could in fact learn from them. If you are ‘getting up there’ in years, don’t check out of society or having fun. You have lots to give and much fun to have. Keep learning. 

Today look in the mirror and praise God for who He created you to be no matter what your chronological age. To God Be The Glory!

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for my life and every year of it I have lived. Help me continue to shine for you no matter how old or young I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Information Overload



He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. Mark 4:39

Have you ever felt like your head was going to explode what with the world around us being so tech oriented? Then there is social media and need I even have to address that. You can have a much more relaxed peaceful life without the constant bombardment of 24-7 news and information. And when you ‘stalk’ Facebook what good does it bring you? Each person has to be honest with themselves and set boundaries. 

Honestly ask yourself how much time do you spend reading others opinions in newspaper, watching TV, or glued to Facebook or other outlets. Why is it even necessary? Try an information break. Go for a walk, without your phone,  unless you are waiting for Wheel of Fortune call back like I was recently. LOL. Watching people in waiting rooms and airports makes my neck hurt as everyone seems to be looking down at the almighty screen.

Today purpose in your heart that you will let go of others opinions on stuff. Realize Jesus is Lord and God controls the universe. If you are tempted to ‘go low’ on your social media may I suggest to take the high road which exalts Jesus so much more and causes less stress and anger. Let God handle the little battles and trust Him. 

PRAYER: Lord I want my information overload to be of you or in other words getting filled to overflowing with your word and the Holy Spirit. I will let you handle others and help e respond with grace to those who are ugly then let it go. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Me And My Big Mouth


May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14
Anyone out there have trouble with their mouth, the words they say or don’t say?  Once something pops out it can’t not be taken back. If this is a weak area of yours join the club.

Perhaps you have been on the receiving end of hurtful or hateful words. Takes some tough skin to put up with some of it. God can give you the grace to endure but no one deserves to be verbally beaten up or abused. Pray for the person who is lashing out at you with their tongue to be convicted of it. If you have the issue with not being careful with what you say God can help you as well. 

Today purpose in your heart to extend grace. Also to think before you speak. Maybe somethings are best left unsaid. God gave you the gift of speaking to others but use it wisely. 

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I want and need your help to use my mouth for good and not bad. I don’t want to cause hurt or confusion by what I say. Give me strength Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Synced With Jesus?



I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20
You sync all your devices. Watches, iPads, notebooks, phones, but how about syncing yourself with Jesus? Are you with him and connected 24/7!

To be in sync you know his heart and have the mind of Christ. To do this sync up it is necessary to stay in the word of God and be in tune with Him. You can’t sync up when your mind and heart don’t even care about Him except only  on Sunday. You aren’t born a Christian but it is something you need to desire. 

How about it, do you want sync up with Jesus today! It is the best thing you will ever do. 

PRAYER: I love you Lord and I don’t want to get caught up in my electronics and fiddling with all of them syncing this and syncing that when in fact my heart needs to be continually synced up with you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Grumbled?

It sure is easy to be a grumbler. Instead of counting your blessings maybe you slip into a critical mode every now and then. 

Think about what you have not what you don’t have. Think about the ways your life has impacted others. Think about the freedoms you enjoy. Perhaps start  a list of a blessing a day. Don’t allow yourself to free fall into complaining.

Today know that God is with you every step of your way. Your journey is not over. There is always someone worse off than you. Look around and see ways you can reach out and bless others.

PRAYER: Lord I am so grateful and forgive me when I have grumbled and complained. I am blessed and I thank you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Positive Attitude...Just Have One!



Do everything without grumbling or arguing. Philippians 2:14

Many things in daily life can spur a sour attitude. The thing is you don’t have to allow it.

 Rude drivers, unfriendly store clerk, craziness of this time of year(Thanksgiving through New Years), where you live or don’t live, politics, dishonest sales people, strained personal relationships, and a multitude of other things. You don’t have to succumb to a bad attitude. Cheer up, Jesus has overcome this world!

Purpose in your heart you are not going to ‘go there’ no matter what and remember you are an ambassador for the King of Kings. Don’t let the stresses and strains of this earthly dwelling place cause you to get sour and feel defeated. Pause for quiet times and relaxing. Turn off the noise. Pray. When you catch yourself slipping say “no way enemy” and march on!

 PRAYER: I am guilty of slipping into the stronghold of a bad attitude at times and I need your strength Lord to help me be a positive person who can bring joy to those around me even those who may not be cheery. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Struggles? Get On The Bus, Ho, Ho, Ho!


I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

No one is immune to problems not even a lottery winner. Seemingly people seem to think money is a cure all but it won’t heal deep hurting heart issues. This time of year can create undue stress for many. 

Being alone. Feeling  left out. Hurtful words by a family member. Comparison to others. Unmet expectations of the holiday season. Everything combines to make it not so merry a time of year. Sometimes you may feel you are going to explode. 

Stop what you are doing. Purpose to forgive people who may have hurt you even if they never ask. Let go of hurt feelings. Be careful what you say to not dig your hold and sadness deeper. Don’t let Christmas anxiety make you forget what this time of year is really all about. Breathe in joy and peace and breathe out anxiety of the season. 

PRAYER: Lord I want to choose peace this time of year. Help me sow joy in another’s life who may be hurting. Direct my steps to be a blessing to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Is On The Throne...Period!



This  is what the LORD says: "Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches.” Jeremiah  9:23

Thank goodness the midterm political season is behind us. Humans get so caught up in thinking what the potential for allowing certain people to lead them could do to America, democracy, and freedom. Some who run for political office  do in fact want to harm America and move it away from its’ roots  but others are Constitutionally sound and follow the rule of law.

Even for those with sinister plots for America the main thing to remember is who is really in control. Sometimes God allows certain people to lead in order to accomplish His purposes on Earth.

The next time you get concerned about evil rulers just praise God for prayer and knowing He is on the throne and we are to trust Him for the big picture. His kingdom come, His will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. God will take care of the evil. Trust him.

PRAYER: Keep me discerning and engaged and aware of what is happening in our government. I pray for media to stop being one sided. I pray for Christians to speak the truth in love and to remember to always pray and not lose heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t Conform To This World


Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

The Almighty TV set beckons us daily. Watch me, watch me. The more you watch the more your opinions are shaped and not always for the good. When I grew up in the 50’s and early 60’s TV was a happy time, no networks trying to push agendas on their viewers. Also it was peaceful no murders and bedroom sex scenes to watch to fill your mind right before bed. I applaud friends I know who raise their children without this device even in their home. 

Our wonderful country is in a moral free fall yet many are desensitized to it even many so called ‘churches’. The truth is found in the word of God. It has to be opened, read, and applied to make any difference. Factions in our society have tried to make it illegal. Pretty powerful book when people go to extreme measures to give God the boot so to speak. 

Renewal of your mind starts the moment you choose to truly live for Christ and keep your mind saturated with the things of the Lord and not the world’s ways. Get a pocket Bible or download the app on your phone and read when you are in waiting rooms. Don’t just treat the Bible like some sort of magic charm. It is life giving and powerful. No go get renewed!! 

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I don’t want to act like I am better than others or go around boasting of anything but of what you have done in my life. I pray for those people who need to start picking up the Bible daily and getting their hearts transformed. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t Fear Puny Man

In God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me? Psalm 56:11
You probably did not know that in the Bible it tells us to not fear ‘puny’ or mere man. Some mere men and women want us to fear them but your trust should be in God alone! You are to put your trust in God, period.
Many places in the Bible it tells us to not fret about evil doers and to not lean on our own understanding. (Proverbs 24:19; Psalm 37:1; Proverbs 3:5-6). I say it once and will say it again. Don’t feel compelled to watch the nightly news which mainly can instill doubt, fear, anger and a host of other emotions. Pray and ask God to give you a settled heart and mind. 

If you are worried about the future there is no need because God has it all under control. 

PRAYER: Thank you Lord that you really do have our backs. When I start to slip into a mode of concern help me breathe in and know you have a plan. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Get Up, Get Over Yourself, Get On With God’s Business


Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God. Psalm 43:5

It is human nature to be a pit dweller or in other words to sulk and have hurt feelings or pity parties over things that do not matter in the big scheme of things. I know it is my weak point. Satan loves to get you where you are weakest and most vulnerable and disable you for the kingdom. Don’t let it happen. 

Let’s say you feel someone got offended at something or that you must have said something to get them angry at you. And in this political climate we are in here in America, if you don’t agree with a particular side they shut you down and out. Very hurtful. Ruining friendships over politics is problematic and horrible. 

Christians are to be set apart and above all the chaos and hatred and not slip into a mode of feeling sorry for themselves. If you have issues with friends give it to the Lord. Don’t stoop low and take the low road but always stay on the high road. Get up, get going, and get on with God’s business which is loving people and winning souls. 

PRAYER: I thank you Lord that you love me even when a human may have turned his or her back on me. I choose to love, move on and forgive. Help me stand strong and resist the stronghold of self pity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Claiming To Know God...Denying Him By Their Actions


Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 14:34
Here in the United States seemingly we appear to be in another civil war of sorts, not one of the North versus the South but left versus the right, liberals versus conservatives, Democrats versus Republicans. This ‘war’ has separated family members and friends and gives the devil great delight. It is a war of democracy versus socialism and communism. 

The only way to win this war is not to argue your point with others who oppose you or try to convince them to believe a certain way but to be on your knees and read the Bible. Let the Holy Spirit bring the conviction and forgive those who oppose you and be still. The media have entered this war as well causing much agitation and discord in the populace. There needs to be a revival within their ranks as well.  The enemy is having a hey day for certain. 

Brothers and sisters in Christ of all backgrounds we are called to be righteous, Holy, set apart, running from evil, loving, God fearing, following the word of God and not reinterpreting it for the culture. Many will not see this due to tradition they have been used to and are often blinded to the sin and corruption. It is not our job to ‘fix them’ but pray and allow the Holy Spirit to work. Be still, be prayerful, and be at peace. 

PRAYER: Oh Lord Jesus many who claim to know you have twisted your word to fit the culture and have made a mockery of the word of God. Evil is rampant and many political leaders want a different vision for our great nation. I pray for hearts and souls to be healed and many to be set free. I pray for people to know the difference between evil and good and right versus wrong. In Jesus’ name.Amen.

Giving Up Your Right To Be Right



Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

 Recently I was challenged and for a few moments slipped back into the carnal Becky mode. It was due to a service failure at a major hotel chain and the rude condescending attitude of the manager blaming us for stuff we did not do. Most the time I blow stuff off but every now and then I slip up. Thankfully it was over the phone and not face to face. Instead of forgetting it, forgiving even the undeserving, you may want to hang on to make your point. Never wise and not Christlike.

Who knows maybe that was my test to see if I had graduated from this issue. Apparently not quite. Are you struggling in a similar situation wanting to get the last word or prove you are right? In the big scheme of things does it really matter? Philippians 4:7 says “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
When you want to pop a cork take a breath, a chill pill, and let it go. Proving a point never wins very many friends or brownie points. When you are tempted to slip into a wrong attitude and hurt your witness, step back and ask God to help you move on and let it go. Set the godly example to a hurting fallen world.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus forgive me for any time I have tried to prove a point whether to a stranger or my spouse or anyone else. Help me realize I am on call for you 24-7 no matter what the situation. Give me the strength to stay cool. In Jesus’ name.Amen.

Thankful Most Of The Time


Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.Psalm 100:4
It is not necessary to wait until a declared holiday to be thankful. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to do so but each and every day you should be grateful and thankful on purpose to those in your life.
Stop from whatever you are doing and think of what you are thankful for today. For me 36 years ago today our oldest son was born. He was and is a true blessing and gift from God. I am also grateful for our second born and his beautiful wife and my granddaughter. Oh yes and of course my husband. 
The first unofficial Thanksgiving was a celebration between surviving pilgrims, who came here to escape religious persecution, and the natives for their first harvest. It was celebrated in 1621. Stop today and think about this day and what it means and give thanks for your many blessings.
PRAYER: I am indeed grateful Lord for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I am thankful for my time on this Earth and how you can use me for the kingdom. Help me open my eyes to those around me this day and every day who may not feel very thankful. In Jesus’ name. Amen

Snacking On Jesus?


Because you are lukewarm and neither hot nor cold  I will spit you out of my mouth. Revelation 3:16

Are you serious about your relationship with the Almighty or are you satisfied with a snack here and there? By this I mean you go to church, maybe take your children to VBS when it rolls around and listen to Christian radio, recite the Rosary, say a prayer or two,  but things of the Lord beyond that are not a priority. Jesus is a hobby or a snack not a full course meal.
 Reading and studying the Word of God is vital to growing closer to Him and learning to be more like Him. How do you learn to operate machinery unless you read the owners manual. The Bible is our owners manual that takes you beyond snack food.  You should desire meat not milk it says in 1 Corinthians 3:2.

Do you want to spiritually starve yourself? I know most of us make sure we eat when we are hungry. Are you hungry for God? Ask the Holy Spirit to put that desire in you and stop snacking. 

 PRAYER: I want to know you more Lord. I don’t want to be lukewarm but on fire and closer to you. Forgive me when I lag behind and hardly give you any time. Help me as I seek to schedule my day around you.In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Turn Down The Noise


This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. Isaiah 30:15
I love the vacations I have been on where there is no TV in the room. Peace and quiet. Perhaps a babbling brook out the back door to add to the peace. Campers know what I mean. Peace, stillness, quiet. I was in a car dealer waiting room recently where four TV sets were blaring. I could not find a place to hide without screaming noise. 
In order to hear from God you have to turn off the noise and distractions. That is what is nice about retreats. Go to the woods and commune with God. It is difficult to hear God’s voice with the world screaming at you. You have to get alone and read your Bible and perhaps do some journaling. This is why I like DAWG days which stands for ‘Day Alone With God’. I go to a nearby state park in Alabama. 
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Peace is a lovely word. Where do you go to get away from the world’s distracting ‘voices’?
PRAYER: Father I know I need to make quiet times and peaceful times intentional by scheduling them in my day. The enemy would love to keep me flustered and scattered. Guide me to a time of peace in order to get strengthened in my inner man. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Spiritually Dressing


Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
Each and every day you get up and look in your closet and probably don’t think you have anything to wear when in fact it is bulging with clothes. Eventually you have to select an outfit, accessorize yourself, apply makeup for ladies, and do your hair. This ritual is time  consuming and doesn’t really matter for eternity. You want to look ‘put together ‘ for the world outside your front door.

Do you spend that much time dressing your spirit man? By this I mean reading the Bible, meditating on God’s word, writing in your journal, praying, and listening to Christian music. I am ashamed to say I know I don’t always but need to! Put on good stuff and take off bad stuff.

Clothe yourself with kindness, goodness, mercy, forgiving spirit, peace, and  love. To do this and it to be common place you need to get into a habit. You read the word daily and concentrate on certain verses or ‘hide’ a verse in your heart to think about during the course of your day. Soon spiritually dressing becomes common place. Give it a try!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I want to wake up and not run for the morning shows but to run for and to you. I know distractions will occur but help me as I seek to develop this morning ritual. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Did God Really Say?? Yes He Did!!


Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" Genesis 3:1
From the time of creation man and woman have been challenging God and playing God. When tempted in the Garden of Eden the serpent tried to instill doubt into Eve’s mind by the statement made in the verse above. 
Mankind is on his high horse so to speak. We see that now with the ongoing issues of people not satisfied with the sex they received at birth and wanting to change to a new gender. Or when it comes to marriage it is pretty clear it was intended to be between a male and female yet our high courts played God and said two men could marry or two women could marry. After all if they love each other it’s okay. Others don’t want saddled with a baby so quickly dispose of it, after all it’s only tissue right?

There is only one God although many people worship false god’s, statues, hobbies, jobs, sports, and a host of other things. All of us have heard of the Ten Commandments but Satan working through people has tried to destroy the remembrance of them. There are certain boundaries you are to follow not to punish you but to give you a life filled with purpose. When conveniently  not following God’s word means anything goes. Yes God did say certain things were a no no and did it for our own good. Which path do you choose? 

PRAYER: Your word is the same yesterday, today, and forever yet many people like to change it for the culture they are in. Convict hearts to obey the truth found in your word and follow the Holy Spirit guidance for a life pleasing to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Breathe Out Anxiety, Breathe In Peace

What has you stressed or anxious today? You realize no amount of stress or worry will change a situation and only potentially get you sick?
I had something bothering me one day and could hardly relax and let go. It was hard to even go sleep as it kept creeping into my thoughts. I finally had to simply do some relaxation breathing breathing out cares and breathing in peace. Over and over until I could go to sleep.

As the song lyrics say “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And the things of Earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.”

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for perfect peace in the storms of life which comes only from you. Help me to resist the enemy trying to get me to fret and lean on you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Darkness Or Light? Your Choice.


“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” (John 1:5)
The Bible says before the return of the Lord things are going to get really bad. Evil, corruption, lying, self centeredness, disrespect to parents,  sexual sin, and on it goes. 
God is the light of the world a city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. We as believers are not to cower and say “whoa is me” but stand up and speak the truth in love. Lately Satan has divided family members and friends over political and moral issues. He, the little puny lying evil Satan is not going to win. We know his future. 
If you have a friend or family member who has bought into Satans lies don’t give up on them. Don’t preach but pray. Kindness leads to repentance it says in Romans 2:4. 
Continue to pray and stand steadfast. The kingdom of the Lord is at hand!! 
PRAYER: Thank you for the gift of forgiveness and grace. Help me extend that to wandering friends and family who have lost sight of the truth. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
