More Than Outside Appearances


But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."1 Samuel 16:7

I passed a parking lot recently and saw a couple looking at a previously owned vehicles that were parked there. Even though prices may have looked enticing you don't get the 'big picture' until you look under the hood and take it for a test drive. There is more to a new car than outside appearances. 

The same goes for mankind. Our outward looks may be nice but how is the inside man, the heart. It takes more to be a lovely or handsome person than just grooming. You should be more concerned with the inside than the outside. 

You probably have heard the saying "You can't judge a book by its' cover" although as an author I know the cover is important in order to get people's attention. But it is what is inside that counts? How is your inner man? Does it need some maintenance? 

PRAYER: I don't want to be so overly concerned about my outward appearance. Help me as I seek to be more like you by reading the Bible and praying. I choose to seek a life pleasing to Christ and glow for you so others may ask me for the reason of hope in me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Easy Does It



         Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Ephesians  4:5

Each of you reading this is probably passionate about something. In our passions many times we can cross the path of those who disagree with our opinion. It is essential we do not allow opinions to get in the way of kindness, witnessing, and friendship. 

Proverbs 18:2 tells us "Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions."  In our present 'politically charged' environment, at least in the US, it is more important to pray instead of proving  your point. This could be the same with others causes you may be passionate about.

I don't know about you, but I feel all of us need to be in prayer everyday for this nation and for a spirit of love, understanding, and kindness. Also pray for the eyes of understanding be open to many who may be ensnared and deceived. Everything we say should be based on God's Holy Word to back us up. 

PRAYER: Lord I do not want to babble on and get into meaningless arguments. Help me be an example when I am around others. Forgive me if I have ever acted like a fool. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Dethrone Self



I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! 1 Corinthians 15:31

Me, me, me, me! No one likes to be around people who are puffed up and arrogant and always talking about their achievements and themselves. To be a believer takes humility and dying to self daily. No one is perfect and can slip up. I have done it but I try not to.  It is a process of learning to put others before yourself.

It is easy to get into your own thing and not think of others. I can think of a few friends who seems like they are always 'Johnny on the spot' when it comes to sincere caring and prayer. The kind who always have time. This is something all of us need to work on as many things in our busy world drag us away and distract us from more important things.

Do not guilt yourself and beat up on yourself but ponder if this is something you need to work on. Each person has to come to the decision on their own. Also don't compare yourself to others as each of us is gifted in many areas. Just remember as it says in Romans 12:3 to not think more highly of yourself than you ought to. 

PRAYER: I need to die to self daily Lord and I need help with time management so I don't waste time on just me but have time to share your love with others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Impossible? No Way!



“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
    neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
    so are my ways higher than your ways
    and my thoughts than your thoughts.  Isaiah  55:8-9

What is seemingly impossible IS possible with God! After all He is God. Useless worry, fretting, manipulating outcomes, and all the man made things you may be good at doing are meaningless compared to God's big picture. 

Have you been praying seemingly non stop day in and day out for someone or something? A prodigal child,  healthy pregnancy, new job, change of attitude for you or someone else? Whatever it is do not give up on God. Don't blame Him when you think He caused something. Keep praising.

God works best when the outcome seems impossible to others. Keep believing. Don't stop praying. Don't turn your back on the Almighty. Don't listen to nay sayers but pray for them. Humble yourself before Him and keep on.

PRAYER: Oh Lord you are mighty over all creation and your ways are better than my ways. Help me learn to trust you and not cave into worry. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Armor Of God And Rest


Finally be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. Ephesians 6:10-11

I was convicted one day recently to pray the Armor of God over our new President. I just had a strong feeling God needed to protect him. At the same time a devotional book that was put out and given to the new president had the same scripture for the day. A God thing? I don't know. But in the same context of praying for the armor of God I was listening to the daily 24/7 prayer call and they were discussing God's perfect rest and how we believers needed to be in it and not all stressed out. 

So my theme today a few days after this occurred is resting in Jesus. After you have trusted Him with your concerns then let go and enjoy His perfect rest and don't keep fretting over stuff you supposedly have given to the Lord. Resting is pretty important yet how many of you reading are unable to really rest and may feel guilty slowing down?  When it comes to God's rest He wants you to trust Him with your concerns. 

Today whatever you are doing stop and make sure you are protected by God's armor which is the word of God by reading it and soaking it in. Next completely give your situation over to God then REST.

PRAYER: Many times I have prayed but then start freaking out and concerned. I know you are working all things for your good so help me learn to chill and be still. In Jesus' name. Amen.

No Room At The Inn


In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. Psalm 10:4

My heart aches at times for those lost hurting confused souls who Satan has trapped and deceived. You may know of some right in your own family. To them God is some far off concept and their activities or lifestyle are counter to scriptures. So they have their own gods and the real God is in the backseat somewhere or gone entirely.

Even those of us who love God have to do more than just say we love Him. Do you really LOVE Him? To love is to want the best, to spend time, to get to know and this is a priority.

Search your heart and ask if you really are allowing room for God in your heart or is there a no vacancy sign.

PRAYER: Father God you know the hearts of man and your heart breaks when those who once loved you wandered away. Draw back those who have been trapped by the lies of Satan. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Staying In Spiritual Good Health



For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come. 1 Timothy 4:8

There is much to be said about staying healthy physically and it is crucial to remaining alive and well. You eat the right things, exercise, get rest, see your doctor for a annual physical and  you should be okay. But what about your spiritual fitness level. How is it doing? 

Necessary disciplines are needed to maintain spiritual fitness as well. Reading and studying  the Bible is one way. Memorizing scriptures is a very helpful tool as well. Feeding your mind with Christian praise and worship music. Trying to keep your thoughts on 'things above' so as not to get sucked into the deception and lies in the world. 

Are you a spiritually fit person or do you need further training? Perhaps you were once spiritually fit but got sucked into the world's ways and thinking or maybe you have a family member that was deceived and got off track. Keep praying. In the meantime keep yourself in your 'gym' daily in order to stay strong. 

PRAYER: I need to stay strong and get stronger yet Lord and do more in my spiritual growth. Help me not listen to voices that would trick me or pull me away. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Top Priority


 
“Show me, Lord, my life’s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.

You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
  the span of my years is as nothing before you.Everyone is but a breath 
even those who seem secure. Psalm 39:4-5

What do you consider to be first place in your life? A hobby? A cause? A person? Jesus? 
Now remember that what is first place is usually what you spend the most amount of time thinking about or working on. 

Many people, including yours truly, mean well when they exclaim that "yes indeed Christ is truly first" but do your actions show it? Recently I got up later than usual and was running on a tight schedule trying to fit several things in for the day when I realized I was about to forget the most important thing, Jesus. So I immediately got into a chair with my Bible and paper and spent some time in the Word. Often times Jesus is the first thing to take the hit when something has to be eliminated. Somehow maybe we feel knowing Him alone is like a 'lucky charm' and no more is required. 

If you struggle with making time for Jesus each day sit down and make your daily to do list and even if you work outside the home make it a point to pencil the Lord Jesus Christ into your schedule. It might mean being a little creative to work things out especially if you are a parent with small children to tend to. I guarantee you will feel better and this will be one priority that should be joyful kept. 

PRAYER: I mean well many times but somehow my time alone with God seems to take a hit. I know Satan is jumping up and down when this happens as I have no protective armor on for the day ahead. Help me Lord to reorganize my days to make you really first. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Love Means Just That


Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:9-11

Our politically charged environment right now has many people being ugly and saying mean and hateful things instead of doing the opposite, praying. Of course some of those having outbursts or causing riots may not know Jesus as their savior but any who do should know better. 

Why don't we fight against sin and evil and not the person elected to lead our country. Many prayer organizations have 24 hour prayer going on for this nation. This is exciting to know how God is working. Some walking in darkness hate this as dark hates light. 

God's way is to love and turn the other cheek and pray for those being evil and cruel. They may be lost souls who have no idea of the truth or are being led by seducing spirits. Be nice and go pray.

PRAYER: Since the beginning of time there have been hateful people who don't like goodness. I pray Lord even for any people o may know like this that you would transform hearts and minds and lead the lost to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The 'S' Word...Submission.



Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Ephesians 5:22-23

Oh my goodness, this word, submission, makes the hair stand up on the backs of many ladies necks and may make some men feel empowered. God's idea of Biblical submission does not relegate wives to a doormat or whipping post position but is actually freeing.

The Bible has commands for woman and men in the marriage relationship. I heard from a ladies Bible study teacher long ago that imagine God having a giant umbrella. Next  the  husband had a slightly smaller umbrella, and finally the wife had the smallest one. This does not mean she is not important! The theory is man is to stay under God's authority and likewise the wife was to stay not only under God's but under her husbands also. When you strut and step out from under this protection then you are not protected.

Simply said God has designed a channel of leadership for a purpose. It does not imply one is better than the other. Feminists today would do themselves a huge favor if they would stop tying to prove they can do it all no relax under the design of God's plan for mankind.

PRAYER: I am thankful and happy for your design for creation Lord. Help those individuals who may have the wrong opinion and may have rebellion in their hearts. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The F Word






Your speech needs to be gracious as if seasoned with salt. Colossians 4:6(NIV).

Made you look! I am doing a new respectful use of the F word by thinking of all the wonderful clean uplifting F words. Don't wait for society to think of them. The real F word has become slang and almost accepted in society. It should not be said by anyone as it is so crass, crude, and vulgar. But society has stooped to desensitizing the populace little by little to the point that sometimes we forget what is wrong and right and bad or good. Cursing becomes normal. Let's start a new normal.

The good "F words" are faith, freedom, fun, fearless, forgiveness, first, and  friend.

We have "faith" in God and trust that He is watching over us and hears our prayers. 


"Freedom" is a gift from God and only Satan or his demonic powers try to keep us in bondage. 

"Fun" is the word to describe what a life lived for Christ is. Once again our enemy the devil will try to make you feel like the life lived for Christ is boring and you can't do anything. 

"Fearless" meaning we have no reason to fear what is around the bend as God is in control and He wants you to cast your cares on Him. 

"Forgiveness" is what Christ does for us. If you sincerely repent of your sins he offers forgiveness. We too are to forgive others and not hold grudges.
"First" is what God should be in your life.

"Friends" are so important. Jesus is our best friend or should be. When our youngest son was just a wee little boy he would always tell us he loved us "one less than God". From the mouth of babes.

The Bible uses another F word for the time Jesus died on the cross His
last words in John 19:30 were "It is finished! " Now we who are alive
wait for His return.

Is Jesus your friend? Do you have faith? Are you free in Christ? Do
you realize God will forgive your sins? Do you realize you have
nothing to fear? Do you know a life lived for Jesus is fun!?

If you do not know Him why not ask Him into your heart today? He is your Friend that sticks closer than a brother. 

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for providing all good things. Thank you Father
for forgiving me when I mess up. I choose this day to not enjoy the
sins of this world but to have fun in the body of Christ. In you I put
my trust. In Jesus name. Amen.

Feeders, Tentacles, Zappers


Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 John 4:1

The verse above says it in a nut shell. You can not believe everyone who claims to be preaching the truth. Many false prophets are out there and there are seducing spirits. Sheep in wolves clothing if you will. Similar to how weeds can choke plants with feeder weeds like tentacles grabbing and choking the plant, the truth can be choked by false teachers and evil spirits.

This is why it is crucial you stay in the word of God and don't believe everything you hear but look it up for yourself.  In the book series 'Left Behind' later made into three movies, the anti Christ, known as Carpathia in the book, tricked and seduced many people.  If you know the truth you should be able to recognize deception which comes in many forms. 

Satan is not stupid. He knows how to bait the hook so be on your guard. Stay in prayer and in the word and know the truth and pray for those who do not. 

PRAYER: Keep me alert Lord to danger that is always lurking trying to throw me off guard. Help me be gentle and meek to those who may not understand and help me have the right words to say to help win people to Christ. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Branding, Logo's, And Trademarks


Then Jesus said to his disciples, "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." Matthew 16:24
Big corporations hire branding experts when it comes to making their name more well known. Look at corporations like McDonalds and its' iconic Golden Arches, first the idea of the original owner. Then there is The Colonel for KFC and the iconic Chick Fil A cow. 
An easily recognizable symbol or logo where immediately the name it represents comes to mind is what this trademark or branding is about. So what about the Cross? When you see it you immediately think of Jesus or should right? It is the 'logo' of those who identify with Christ. 
Do you wear a cross around your neck, wrist, ears, or a tee shirt? That cross is more than a decoration but those who wear it should identify with Christ. Are you branded for Christ? 
PRAYER: The cross means allot and help me never take it lightly when I wear it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Seasonal Faith?


I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me. Proverbs 8:17
We are blessed with four seasons. Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Usually at least for me when one season is over I anxiously await the next one particularly after the brutal heat of summer. 
When it comes to seasons do you allow your faith to only come alive in two major seasons that being Winter/Christmas and Spring/Easter? Many people do as churches seem to be packed out during these two times. It is good at least that Jesus is being thought of. Here in the United States we still have the freedom to worship and churches have not been shuttered and Bible reading is mostly allowed. 
If you are guilty of being a seasonal believer why not stop and ask yourself why? Is there no real passion for the Lord? I mean you hear a sermon and go to sleep for instance. Your passion is not for Christ except on Easter and Christmas. Do you desire to feel excited and joyful and in love with Jesus 100% of the time? 
My friend, loving Jesus is a 24/7 thing. He loves you and He wants you to love Him back. Try reading John chapter 1 in the New Testament for starters and pray for God to open your heart to the things of the Lord. 
PRAYER: Help me Lord to learn to give you first place and for me to show my love for you I need to spend quality time with you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Category 5



The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
For those of you who live where there are hurricanes you are aware of the categories of these terrible storms. Category 5 is the worst or in other words you better get out of Dodge and quick.

Do you ever feel in your life that it is similar to catastrophic hurricanes emotionally. For instance you are at the end of your rope and can go on no longer. I am not indicating you are thinking of ending it all but emotionally you are spent. God is the expert at handling Category 5 situations in your life. 

When you are going through rough times, hang on. It is the devil who makes you fearful, hopeless, discouraged, aggravated, and without peace. Do not allow him to rob you of your God given peace. Be strong. God is here.

PRAYER: Father help me in times when I feel I can't go on. Guide me to the cross. Help me turn away from negativity and embrace your peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.

We Are Fifty Shades Darker


Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
There is a movie out now which was sadly promoted on Valentine's Day supposedly about love but in fact it is a very 'dark' unedifying film. It made me think about darkness in general. Our world is definitely 'dark' but there is hope springing forth as we are not to give up to the darkness. 
Our battle is not against flesh and blood but against Satan who would like to captivate and capture everyone he can. He can do it in subtle and not so subtle ways, Hollywood movies and television being one way. Making something evil legal is another method. Re-education of children in colleges and schools or through movies is also a way. The enemy is tricky. He hates the truth and there is no good in him. 
The way to counteract the enemy is to beat him at his game. Pray for those who may be under his spell and resist the truth. Stay in the Bible. When you are tempted to feed your mind on stuff to get you 'informed' but instead become upset, get away and alone with God and read the Bible. Start in the book of John in the New Testament. Decide what is more important, the stress of being upset and angry or the truth in God's word 
PRAYER: I need to resist the enemy and he will flee. I pray for an awakening not only in the United States but throughout the world to the truth in the Bible. Help me answer those who may oppose me in a gentle way. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Your Jonah Moments


Now the Lord provided a huge fish to swallow Jonah, and Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights. Jonah 1:17

Have you ever had those type of moments where you feel God is speaking to you to do something and for whatever reason whether scared, selfish, lazy, apathetic you turn away? I know I have. Mine was not as great as Jonah where I was thrown overboard and swallowed by a giant fish but I think of that account found in Jonah Chapter every time I back away when my gut says do it.

Whether it is leading a prayer group, going on a mission trip, befriending a stranger, being on a committee for a retreat, visiting a prison or nursing home,  or a host of other examples you may have in your own life. This is not saying God is calling you to every single task but in my case wanting to run and hide from responsibility He has for us, He can always find us.
God can strengthen and equip you for whatever task He has called you to. It is the enemy who wants you to be fearful  and run the other way and hide.

 PRAYER: Forgive me Lord for any time I have ever not done something you were impressing upon me to do. I know you give me strength for whatever it is. In Jesus' name. Amen

God's Red Carpet Is Way Better



           In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your            efforts with success. Proverbs 3:6

Recently  the Academy Awards were televised from Hollywood and many people were boycotting watching them simply due to what they perceive as the arrogance of Hollywood in general. These actors and The Academy attempt to try to shape America by their skewed political views and end up making many people angry in the process. 

Why does the Red Carpet matter so much where we are captivated by stars and idolizing them? I confess I have done it many times. Jesus' has a Red Carpet of sorts and that is for those who follow hard after Him and know the truth. There is not a Red Carpet in Heaven but if there were it would be 'star studded' with the meek and lowly and those who had asked Jesus to be in their hearts. 

Which Red Carpet matters most to you? Something to ponder.

PRAYER: Lord forgive me when I have ever elevated people over you. You are number one and you love me with an everlasting love. You love sinners in Hollywood too and want them to know you.  Help me in my corner of the world set a good example to help draw others to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Get Up Get Up You Sleepy Head


Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. JAMES 1:2-4

Many people don't like to get out of bed in the morning. Maybe they face a job they hate, a situation at work, an unresolved conflict, a health issue, or just simply want to bury their head under the covers. If this describes you there is hope for a brighter tomorrow.

The key to conquering this complacency in your life is to focus on Jesus. Realize everything eventually will pass. It is true that time does seem to fly. Where do the years go? I look back on junk I went through and hated at the time but now am thankful for what I learned during the ugly moments.

Today give God thanks for good and for bad. Sometimes that is very difficult to do. Stay in the word of God. Start with the book of John in New Testament and read every day. Soon your joy and hope will return.

PRAYER: I pray today for those I know and even don't know who are going through struggles and hard times that you would help them keep looking to you as the author and finisher of their faith. In Jesus' name. Amen.

How many of you reading this have found out what I found out and that is you can't change people on your own? 'Shoving Jesus down someone's throat' does not work and may have just the reverse effect. As Bible teacher Joyce Meyer says "Don't be Holy Spirit junior" as that is not what you are called to do.

You are called to wait in God's 'waiting room' of sorts. Be patient. Keep praying. Keep loving. Keep believing. No one is beyond the reach of God and The Holy Spirit. And above all stop comparing to others whose prayers are already answered for loved ones. Everyone is on a different journey.

As you have a quiet time with Jesus today thank Him ahead of time for the work He is doing in the life of the person or persons you have been diligently praying for. Then be still and look for the glory of God. Don't allow Satan to make you doubt.

PRAYER: I love you Lord and I deeply care about ____________________ and know you are working in their life. I believe I will see a miraculous work. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stand Up Strong


Today I have made you a fortified city, an iron pillar and a bronze wall to stand against the whole land-against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. Jeremiah 1:18

Do you ever just feel like whatever you are going through you are at end of your rope? I know I have. Maybe the state of the nation or things going on around soon seem gloomy. God wants you to be strong and know you can make it.
Our chief enemy is not a person but is Satan. It is he who causes discouragement, lack of hope, and that 'woe is me' thinking. Don't allow it! Wake up daily and thank God for being able to breathe. Next say out loud "this is the day the Lord has made and I WILL rejoice and be glad in it".

Don't allow fear or worry to paralyze you. God is much bigger than anything you are facing so just remember that.


PRAYER: Dear Lord I thank you for opportunities to strengthen my faith. Help me as I seek to focus on things above and not issues in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Overcome Evil


Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. Matthew 24:12

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to realize wickedness abounds in our world. The real enemy of course is Satan who has blinded and deceived so many people. Hateful people are screaming at our new President. Others don't want to allow anyone to have an opinion other than their own.Folks, we need to be in prayer for a lost, deceived, and hurting world.

The answers for truth are not found in The New York Times but in the Holy word of God. Only through reading the Bible can you truly know the truth yet how many of us are guilty of getting our 'truth' from newspapers and television. That is a dangerous route to be on, be warned. Spend more time in The Book and less on Facebook feeds for finding our truth. It takes discipline to do this and start a new habit.

Do you want to help chase the darkness out of the world? Then be in prayer daily and earnestly seek the heart of God. Pray for your enemies and those you do not see eye to eye with. Let God arise and His enemies be scattered.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus help me to remember to love my enemies and those who may be arrogant, hateful, and hurtful. Touch the hearts of those men and women who choose to listen to the world more than you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Get Up, Get Going, Get Away!


The LORD is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:7 NLT

I was thinking of this about how in the morning we need to first 'get up.' Try to do the joyfully and with anticipation. Next you need to 'get going'. Part of that get going should include time scheduled to be alone with God. Finally 'get away' or meaning push back from Facebook, social media, news, newspapers, and many other time wasters that do nothing at all to build you up.

How do you get up, get going and get away realistically speaking? Discipline first and self control second. The discipline to know what in life is truly important and the self control to say no to lesser things that have no eternal value or impact. Often times when writing I may be seen by some who do not understand as 'over the top' or a 'religious fanatic' when in fact I simply love Jesus and want to try to be more like him.

What are you here for anyway? It is not just to wake up and do your thing and go to work but to serve the Lord. If you have never committed your life to Him you can do that. If you are not excited about Jesus maybe it is time to find out where exactly your heart is. Being a Christian is not a club membership or a status in life but requires love and commitment. Open your heart to Him today.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus help me discipline my day to say no to distractions and lesser important things that have no eternal value. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Only You Lord

It is only the Lord who can work miracles. Some of these would be transforming Hollywood, changing the media, bringing the lost to Christ, delivering a prodigal and you can add to the list I am sure. 

Why is it many find it hard to believe God does miracles? A friend of mine once said "Believe receive, doubt do without." Oh how very accurate that statement is. Don't ever doubt the power of the almighty. Continue to believe and receive and abundance of blessings and answers to prayer. 

Instead of giving up all hope for whatever it is you are trusting God for continue to press on in heartfelt prayer.  Spend time alone with God daily. Don't just cry out when you have troubles. Your life will be much smoother and peace filled if you can daily go to Him in prayer and study His word the Bible. Am I a Jesus freak? Yes indeed and proud of it. Want to join me? Trust God today! 

PRAYER: Oh Lord how I want to trust you 100 % of the time yet sometimes I cave into anxiety. Help me hear your voice and know you have my back. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Relax, Be A Kid!



A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

I was at my local park walking and noticed two young children on the playground running, jumping, swinging and having what appeared to be a glorious time. I thought to myself, why don't adults go swing on the monkey bars or teeter totter? Maybe office places need to install adult playgrounds.Probably help with adult obesity too.

Children don't have worries and concerns or they shouldn't let's say. They frolic, play, laugh, skip and just seem delighted by life. Now granted there are plenty of broken children out there but my point is childlikeness would be a good thing to try to incorporate into your life. Don't be afraid to laugh, have fun, do something crazy, try something new.

Whatever problems you have today try to let them go, pray and give them over to God. Then get in your car and go find a playground and swing for a few minutes. Might do you good.

PRAYER: Lord help me have childlike trust and faith and also childlike boldness to not be ashamed of you. Help me learn to laugh and play like a child to let my stresses go. In Jesus' name. Amen.

It's Not About Me


Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. James 4:10
One of my favorite movies with a message based on a true story is 'When the Game Stands Tall' the 2014 Hollywood movie about a California High School football team that was undefeated for 151 games then lost. The overlying theme of the movie is to remember it is not about the individual but about the team and not about winning necessarily. If you get a chance find it and watch it. You don't have to be a sports fanatic to enjoy it.

When it comes to anything in life the humble people are the ones who are more enjoyable to be around. Not the ones who gloat all the time. The coach in this movie had a chance to go coach at Stanford but he chose a lower salary and the joy of working with the high school players to build Godly character into their lives. Being humble is truly what God wants us to do. 
Are you able to die to self and truly put others best interests before your own? 
PRAYER: Thanks Lord Jesus for your example of being humble servant. I choose to make that my aim in life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Can Correct Your Wrong Turns



Trust in the Lord with all your heart, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
Have you ever been driving and all of a sudden you realize you should be going a totally different direction? You wasted valuable time in the process.

This happens in life as well. You may second guess a decision because things are not going the way you thought. If you are really going to allow God to guide you and trust Him to open the right doors you just have to hang on and try to relax. Even if you did make an error God can restore and make necessary corrections.

So instead of fretting about what next just look to God and truly put Him first and your paths will be straight and your direction correct.

PRAYER: At times it is hard to know what to do in life.  Help me have more faith to trust you to lead me and guide me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Rough Patch? Get The Sandpaper.

Note: Forgot to post this devotion on Friday Feb 25,17.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. James 1:2-3

No ones life is immune from trouble of some sort. As much as you may not like to hear this, troubles actually make you stronger in the long run if you don't cave in to the enemy wanting you to get angry at God.

You are sort of being sanded or transformed into what God wants you to be. Sandpaper is not a fun thing to rub on your skin and I don't recommend it but you get the idea? A carpenter needs to sand wood to have a nice finished product that people will not end up getting splinters. So too our Heavenly Father 'sands' His creation. Us!

I realize many of these trials are the unimaginable kind but lean in on God and He can and will see you through.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus when I look back on the rough patches of my life I can see how you worked in me. I pray for those people going through being sanded now that you will transform their lives in a positive way. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Watch What You Say


Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person. Colossians 4:6
Years ago an acquaintance remarked to me about my constant use of the words 'holy cow', 'holy mackerel', 'holy Toledo'. She politely said to me "Only God is Holy" and she is/was right. But how do you break this seemingly innocent usage of slang speech? Now my opinion on this is I did not see it as wrong but if I am around an individual who does I would be careful. 
Speech is important. Youth today grow up hearing rap lyrics that would make you blush yet many are sucked into this culture giving it no thought. The F word is very bad and it is laced throughout many people's conversations and even if they don't say it may condone it's usage. For someone to say "God" all the time drives me insane as it is taking God's name in vain even though they did not say the D word after it. Instead of saying "God" why not use "gosh"? 
How are you doing with words? Do you speak as if Jesus Christ Himself were in your presence? It is something to ponder. Our words should reflect the Christlike character inside of us. Making a habit of constant intake of bad speech in movies such as the infamous F word which garners many movies an R rating, will eventually have you desensitized to it. Strive for excellent speech. 
PRAYER: Help me Lord with the words I say that I do not offend anyone or cause someone to stumble. Help kind words and loving words flow from my mouth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
