The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly. Proverbs 15:2
There is a saying in the US Navy, "Loose Lips Sink Ships". In our Moms in Prayer group we are reminded "What's Prayed In The Group Stays In The Group". Indeed misspoken words can end up getting people into allot of trouble they never saw coming. Recently Senator Ted Cruz campaigning for the Republican nomination for President of the United States let words slip during a televised debate that I think he could have stated in a different way with a different outcome. Instead when he said them he set off a firestorm with folks who live in Manhattan and New York City lumping them all together. He probably regretted his use of words but they were out there and the media, not friendly to conservatives normally, jumped on them.
We are human and humans goof up. That is why it is important to pray for wisdom and to try to think before you speak, text, email, or post on social media. You might be out for coffee with a friend and catch yourself in a gossip trap. It is important to ask yourself if what you are about to say will bless the listener and do anything good. If not probably don't go there in the first place.
Oh it is indeed true what is says in James 3 about "no man can tame the tongue"! If only we could how awesome it would be. Just be careful and be kind.
PRAYER: There have been times I said things I regretted and have angered someone or caused hurt feelings. Lord that is never my intent. Help me be careful with my mouth and use it for building up and not tearing down. In Jesus' name. Amen.
