For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

It is very frustrating, especially when a person is running late, to run into a detour. Usually it is road construction but it could be various other reasons such as an accident. Detours are unfortunately part of life. It is how you deal with them that counts.

Life often gives us detours we did not plan on. Perhaps God is orchestrating something new in a person's life and even better than what they were 'detoured' from. It could be not getting into a school. Maybe it is an unexpected move out of state or to a different city. You are not accepted into medical, dental, vet,or law school and cannot understand why. Flight delays at airport. Messed up vacation plans. There are a host of possibilities.

When one door shuts another even better door often opens. If we are bummed out and angry and not seeing it as possibly the hand of God, then anger and a lack of peace could result. Many times a person may reflect back and see exactly why things did not happen the way they thought they should. Trust God and give Him the praise and glory.

PRAYER:  I admit there have been times when something did not go as planned when I could not understand and may have even been a bit upset. Forgive me for not giving it to you at the time. Help me to trust you for anything unexpected in the future. In Jesus' name. Amen.

  1. Becky: This is a beautiful piece. It speaks of the idea that man plans but God orchestrates His plans for our lives. Those detours do have interesting outcomes.
