REMEMBERING THOSE WHO PAID THE ULTIMATE PRICE

We are blessed in the United States to live in a uniquely free nation. This country was set up by the founding fathers so we could live free from tyranny and under God. We have our men and women in uniform to thank for putting their lives on the line in many wars ,battles and even in peace time so that we are free to enjoy life as we know it. Many take this sacrifice for granted. There are those who mock the men and women in uniform and do not appreciate what they do. Same as with Jesus. Many turn their backs on Jesus as well and ignore Him. Even well meaning Christian followers at times only give him a few minutes a day, if that.

Today is Pearl Harbor Day when the Japanese back in 1941 had a surprise Air Strike on the US Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor on the island of Oahu in Hawaii leaving the USS Arizona sunken with its' crew entombed in the sea. This is now a permanent memorial of the men who gave up their lives for freedom on that day that will live in infamy. Many died on land that day too there in Hawaii to include female troops..

The Bible says,'Greater love hath no man than he lay down his life for his friend'(John 15:13). Survivors of war know the
true meaning of this verse. There are stories of medal of honor winners who usually receive the war posthumously since their act of bravery took their own life but saved many others. 1 Thessaloinian 5:10 says about Jesus, "Christ died for us so that, whether we are dead or alive when he returns, we can live with him forever. " Christ died for all sinners. Mankind  may not take seriously or even daily give a thought to either Jesus death on the cross or the deaths of many military members who died for us to live free. (At the end of this devotion I have included a link to medal of honor recipients from Pearl Harbor.)

Jesus paid the ultimate sacrifice for us so that we might live.1 Peter 1:9 says he was "a lamb without spot or wrinkle" yet he died for us so that we might live. He paid the penalty for our sins. Many people ignore him and ignore the fact that Jesus is Lord.  Most people are familiar with the Bible verse John 3:16 which says, "Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son. God gave his Son so that every person that believes in him would not be lost, but have life forever"

Do you know God as your saviour? He died for you. Yes for you. He hung up on the cross and took punishment for our sins, past, present and future. You can ask him into your heart today.

PRAYER: Lord God we thank you for your sacrifice so that we might live. We love you Lord. Forgive us for when we have put you 'up on a shelf' and gone our own way. In Jesus Name. Amen!
