Lent...40 Day Break



Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Matthew 4:1-3(Read rest of chapter on own)

Without any clue of the shut down of the entire world Lent began 26 February 2020 and ends today. Maybe some have never given much thought to Lent but it is a time of sacrifice of something and focusing on what Easter and Good Friday are all about. Although ‘religious’ in nature it symbolizes Christ withdrawing into the wilderness for 40 days prior to his crucifixion. For we who observe it either formally such as in Catholic Church or informally it is a time of self reflection. 

This high most Holy holiday is probably the most significant behind Christmas for Christians. Even those who on a day to day basis have no real desire for things of the Lord flock to churches on these two days. The Lenten season, if you think about it, was when Satan was throwing his darts at Jesus in the wilderness and a time of extreme loneliness probably. 

Did you do anything special for Lent? Sadly  I had never given it much thought until this year and it was like The Holy Spirit spoke and said ‘participate Becky’ so I have been, and right in the midst came the big shutdown. March 15 was declared a National Day of Prayer by our President and around that time businesses that were non essential started closing. Yes a Lent to definitely remember. God saw it coming. No big surprise to Him. During this season of imposed loneliness for most of us how are you reflecting on Jesus and what Easter really means? He loves you my friend. He is here to comfort you. He has not forgotten us so don’t forget Him. Go to church this Sunday and every Sunday. Online for the time being. Give a shout of praise to the Lord most high. 

PRAYER: Oh Father my sacrifice on these forty days was nothing compared to what you did for us. Forgive my whining, complaining, and self centered attitudes. Open up doors every day for me to show love even while shut inside my home. In Jesus’ name.Amen.
