Is there anyone in your life that brings discouragement upon you when you want to try something new and the comment is made "you are too old to try that" or "you are too little?" In 1 Samuel 17 David was tiny compared to Goliath and people may have said "he is way too little to take on that big giant. He surely will die." Zacchaeus was a tiny man who wanted to see Jesus when he passed by but Jesus looked on him as a big man. He was up in a tree and Jesus said, "Zacchaeus, you come down from there for I am going to your house today." (Luke 19:3).
Don't let others bring a spirit of discouragement on you or a defeatist attitude. If you want to go to college and you are 70 or older, so what. As Nike says 'just do it!' Do you want to try to skydive but you feel foolish or too old? Well if you are in good health and possess courage, no matter what your age go for it!!' Do you love roller coasters but people say 'you are too old for those'? Go ride on one anyway.
Philippians 4:13 says "I can do all things through him who gives me strength." 1 Thessalonians 5:11 says "So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing." Ecclesiastes 9:10 says "Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the grave, where you are going, there is neither working nor planning nor knowledge nor wisdom." Serve the Lord with gladness and enjoy the life he has given you. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 says "I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God."
Do you have a dream or a passion but you feel life has passed you by and it is too late to try it? Do not give up and do not let others stand in the way. What is your dream? Write a book, take art class, learn to play musical instrument, take dancing lessons, learn to scuba dive, run for public office, join a rowing club?? What is stopping you?
1 Corinthians 10:31 tells us" So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." The 'Life is Good' company motto is 'do what you like and like what you do'. A great motto for all of life.
Isaiah 40:31 says "but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;they will run and not grow weary they will walk and not be faint." Put Christ first, try new things, help others and share with others. Philippians 4:4 says " always be full of joy in the Lord; I say it again, rejoice !"
PRAYER: Father I know you have wonderful plans for my life. I am special in your eyes and not 'little' in any way. I know you want me to bloom and blossom in your kingdom. Help me not shy away from trying new things and help me be an encouragement for others. In Jesus name, amen!
