Do You Pray For Your Enemies ?

“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. Luke 6:27-28 NIV Bible Gateway

Who are your enemies? The person who hurt you and called you names? The neighbor who lets their holly bushes grow right next to your car in the driveway scratching them? Can you forgive abusive parents or foster parents? The person who wants to sue you because they fell down on a crack in your sidewalk?

Actually to love your neighbor is a tall order but the best thing to do. Would you be able to love and forgive a person who killed your child or spouse in a car wreck? Ouch. I have heard of stories where that exact thing has occurred. “Oh come on Becky!”

Help is on the way and his name is Jesus. It is unnatural to want to pray for someone who really damaged you or hurt your life much less for a person who robbed you. But God wants us to do just that. Harboring resentment will lead to bitterness and anger and maybe make you have health issues. It is time to let go and if you can’t ask God to intervene and help you.

PRAYER: Father I need your help to be able to let go of stuff and to learn to forgive. Help those people who just can’t seem to move on because the pain is so deep. Fill them with supernatural peace and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  1. Becky: This is so true. We SHOULD pray for those who have hurt us. I know people who have left churches because they had been hurt by someone. One woman left because the leadership did not seem to want to help the situation. We should ALL pray for those who give us 'issues'.
