What Idols Are you Worshipping?

 

You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath.Exodus 20:4

 

When you think of an idol what comes to mind? A gold statue? A music celebrity like Taylor Swift? For an alcoholic it could be booze.Television addict?  For many it might be whatever consumes your life and what you live for. 

Ask yourself a serious question. Who or what are you worshipping or spending the most of your waking hours consumed with? Only you can be convicted of what that might be. 

Take inventory of your life and your heart. Do you crave the world more than you do things of Christ? You know what gets your focus most can be idolized. Take a break from news, social media, and turn your eyes upon Jesus. 

PRAYER: Father grant me the ability to back away from anything unhealthy that has a bigger place in my life than you do. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Who Are Your Friends?

A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.Proverbs 18:24

Who are your real friends? Do they lead you to Jesus or away from Him? You should be helping to point others to Jesus. 

Be loyal to your friends. If one betrays you let it go and move on. Try to look for those who need a friend and step in. 

If you have children or grandchildren  pray for them to be led to good uplifting godly friends. Pray for the Holy Spirit to convict them of those who would lead them astray and lift up the lost. 

PRAYER: Lord thanks for freedom to choose. Help me in my choices and help my children and grandchildren in their choices of friends. Guard and protect them.In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Jealous?Get Help From God

 

“A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.” Proverbs‬ ‭14‬:‭30‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Think of a bag of rotten bones. Not too many of us may have seen those but all of us have seen rotten garbage. It is putrid. 

Peace is what you and I need to strive for not when it comes to jealousy but all things bothering you. Proverbs 17:22 calls a peaceful spirit like good medicine. Yes good medicine indeed for your whole being. 

Jealousy is earthly and not a fruit of the Spirit. It is sometimes caused by Facebook comparing, feelings which are not from God. When you start to be jealous start praising God and writing a list of thanks. Now go have a blessed day. 

PRAYER: Father God thanks for all opportunities in life. Help me not succumb to being jealous of another but be grateful for what I have. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Twisting Truth? Still A Lie

 

Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices,
Colossians 3:9

Do you lie? If you answered no you probably just lied.

The point you know lying is wrong and it is one of the 6 things the Lord hates so why do on occasion you ‘twist the truth’, tell a white lie, and so forth. Ponder that.(Proverbs 6:16-19).

I think no one sets out to but sometimes it happens. Don’t do it in a court of law or you will not enjoy what happens next. Be truthful no matter what. A person that lies all the time knowingly will end up in lake of fire according to scripture. (Revelation 21:8). God gains no pleasure in punishing but he wants all to repent and be set free.

PRAYER: The truth sets people free. Satan is a liar and tries to get people to lie too. Help me follow Christ and not get tripped up into being untruthful. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Zip Your Lip, Turn Off Your Tears, Talk To God

 

“Too much talk leads to sin. Be sensible and keep your mouth shut.”Proverbs 10:19

Just because I write devotions doesn’t mean I don’t struggle with the area of ‘stinking thinking’. Satan loves to get Christ followers all upset with people that ‘deserve’ to be hurt and so forth.

Christ wants us to emulate Him. Think about this for a moment. If you go off the rails and trash a friend or family member is that honestly being Christlike? Of course you know the answer. It is hard to be like Christ when you fill your mind with hatred if all you ‘dwell’ on is social media.

I have been upset and started crying big buckets of tears almost feeling sorry for myself when in actuality I needed to talk to my Heavenly Father. All have sinned. Period. Let the Holy Spirit do his work and your work is to love people, forgive them no matter what, and above all to never stop praying. Eliminate any remnants of ugly speech from your mouth. Get your heart right with God and trust Him.

PRAYER: I get overwhelmed sometimes and in anger our ugliness can spew forth out of our mouths. My job is to love, not hate. It is to let the Holy Spirit work. Help me Lord stay on your potters wheel. Mold me and shape me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Unhelpful Thoughts

  

We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted andproud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,2 Corinthians 10:5 AMP Bible Gateway 

If you could get your mind to stop thinking unhelpful thoughts your day would go much better. Besides this verse Philippians 4:8 is another good speaking of what things are good and helpful and so forth. 

I know discipline in this area is essential because if you don’t think before you act or speak it could destroy relationships or cause conflict. 

Think kind and helpful thoughts and try to be still. Ask God to help you if this is a weak area. 

PRAYER: Lord use my words to help bring joy to another. Work in the lives of any who need discipline in what is in their minds. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Casting Stones

And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

John 8:7 

Recently a famous pastor who I had the pleasure to meet one time fell from grace as a woman from his past charged him with sexual misconduct. He had repented of this years before and spoken of it, so why now does this lady come forward at age 54? 

My feeling is all of us have sinned(Romans 3:23) and this happened and was not hidden. What advantage does a person have in destroying another’s reputation?I am not defending this but simply saying don’t go around gloating about other’s downfalls because all have stumbled someway at some point. 

Pray for those in prison, jail, in detention, and those misunderstood. Also pray for accusers of people as scripture says Satan is the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10). Don’t gossip about those who have had a downfall but pray for them. Be kind. 

PRAYER: Lord I lift up all individuals falsely or wrongly accused of something. I pray for people who truly need help and want freedom from junk in their past. I thank you that you can restore the years the locust has eaten as it says in scripture. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Are You Delighted?

 



His Delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night”. Psalm 1:2

What brings you joy? When you think of the word ‘delight’ what comes to mind? 

You may feel delighted over your children, your friends, a wonderful vacation, or just a beautiful day. 

To delight yourself in the Lord is just like this scripture refers to and that is meditating on his law or the commands in the Bible day and night or basically have scripture guiding your actions, thoughts, and words daily. 

PRAYER: Lord in you I put my hope and trust. When I have a day that I am dwelling on things that bring me down help me to do a U turn and aim for delight. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Where Am I And Why Am I Here

 

Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20 ASV Bible Gateway

Who needs to hear scripture? Who needs a friend? You are where you are for a reason. Who needs you to be here and stay here?

Bloom where you are planted. Today’s Bible verse is also printed on paper products at In And Out Burger, refers to God knocking at your hearts door. Basically that means when you feel in your Spirit God trying to get your attention perhaps and to return to a path you once traveled but left to follow earthly pleasure.

Is your mind on things of the Spirit or things of the flesh? God has a plan and purpose for each of his creations. Sadly rebellion or closing off the things of the Lord and going after other gods keeps this door shut temporarily for some. Friend do you feel God wanting you to get closer to Him? Kneel before Him and cry out to Him.

PRAYER: Father I know you love me. Voices of this world try to lure me away but I choose to look up and tell Satan to take a hike. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Stay On Course

 

You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. Galatians 5:7-8

 

There is a term called back slidden where say a believer or follower of Christ gets with the wrong influences in his or her life and makes a U turn unfortunately to the kind of living that is no where close to where God wants them to be. Satan loves people like this because he wants them to come to the dark side for lack of a better term.

 

Bad influences, wrong thinking, friends that don’t make Jesus the first place on their lives are some of the things that can draw a person away. If you start dwelling on bad stuff or not feeding yourself scripture daily from the Bible you could go downhill fast.

 

The Holy Spirit is the one that brings conviction of sin. Everyone has sinned. Jesus bled and died a cruel death on the cross so that we might have redemption of sins. You have to recognize the problem and cry out to Him. Many today are blinded by the culture so you have to know and believe the truth found in the Bible. Stand strong and know the difference in good and evil. Remember the Bible speaks of Satan masquerading as an angel of light.(2 Corinthians 11:14).Don’t be conned. Run from temptation.

 

PRAYER: Father I pray for any who are lost and confused or who have been captivated by lies of the enemy. Keep me from being deceived. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shame On You

 

 I do not write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.1 Corinthians 4:14

I have just realized just how bad saying these three little words to anyone is. Maybe unknowingly your parents or a teacher said them to you at one time when you were being scolded.

If you have ever said these to children or grandchildren please repent of it now. Shame is not a good word to cast out on anyone. It has negative vibes. Instead be thinking of a little less harsh word if you have to make correction instead of wishing shame on someone. 

Think of words to bless and show firmness and kindness. 

PRAYER: Lord thank you for the gift of speech but help me not use my words to hurt or shame others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Put That Finger Down

 

Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. Proverbs 25:28

During Covid you may have become a professional Amazon shopper not even needing many of the items you click and buy before you think. I’m guilty and am trying to cease and desist. 

But that little index finger can get you in a heap of trouble texting people and not being patient for a response finding yourself getting blocked and your heart broken. 

Your importance should not come from social media, knowing the latest trends, whether you are ‘liked’ by all but your importance is knowing you are a child of God. Manage your time and emotions by controlling that index finger. Stop and think before you hit send. 

PRAYER: Father God give me self control to rest and not always be on my devices. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Find Something To Smile About

"A cheerful heart brings a smile to your face; a sad heart makes it hard to get through the day." Proverbs 15:13

There is always something to smile about even in the roughest of situations. Here is one, you are alive!

Here in the United States we have First World problems a walk in the park compared to Third World Nations.

Don’t be wallowing in self pity but get up and get going and find someone to bless. 

Don’t make everything about you. Get your mind off yourself and take time to smile and praise God for just being able to be alive to bless another person in some way. You are not here by accident. 

PRAYER: Father I am grateful I was born. Help me guard my heart so as not to slip into depression and complacency. Help me find a way to make a difference in someone else’s life. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Selfish With Your Sadness

 

He must become greater; I must become less.”John 3:30 NIV Bible Gateway

You may not think you are self centered but when you or I mope about some injustice done to us to the point you become isolated from those around you there is a problem. Satan uses this time to keep you away from people and to keep you wallowing in your own problems thus having very little time to pray for others. 

The idea for this devotion was borrowed from Christian Medical Dental Association(CMDA) newsletter. This self proclaimed poor me is mentality had really affected me. I almost couldn’t minister to others effectively. Boy wouldn’t the devil just love that. 

Have you been where I was seemingly pondering junk and frozen to the point you can’t hop up cast your cares on God and move on?  When you have heartache or are going through a trial you need brothers and sisters to pull you up from the pit. Stay connected to the vine Jesus Christ and let him hear from you. 

PRAYER: Father help me not always be sad about my plight but think of others. I choose to keep me eyes focused on the cross. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Your Father Figure

 

"In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and his children will have a refuge."Proverbs 14:26

For many this day of cheer created to honor our dads is not a happy occasion. For others it is.

These days honoring a parent can be hard for the family of the dad who abandoned his family. Or the dad who is addicted to drugs or alcohol. Some dads did the best they could but their child doesn’t appreciate it or follow how they were taught.

If you have children who are following God, treating others with respect, love their family then be very grateful. God our Heavenly Father is the ultimate example.

PRAYER: Heavenly Father I pray for broken dads today who just want their children back. I pray for dads who need healing from abusive past or alcoholism. I pray for dads to stand strong, keep praying. Bring healing and joy to broken dad’s hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Bear Each Other’s Burdens

 

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 NIV Bible Gateway

What does it mean to bear each others burdens? First and foremost it means to share when you are broken hearted and let trusted friends into your life to pray for you.  Don’t ever think your ‘tiny’ problem isn’t worth having people pray.

Also if the problem is something where you wonder what people will think then you know that is Satan is trying to get you to keep your issues to yourself and not sharing the load with prayer sisters and brothers. 

Pray for one another it says over and over in scripture and don’t be afraid what people will think. True friends will stick close and support you and bring comfort. 

PRAYER: Lord I lift your name on high. I thank you for how you are working in my life and the lives of people I am praying for. Bring conviction when necessary. Root out evil and turn it to good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Anyone who ever saw the Back To The Future movies may recall at end of each movie it said “to be continued”.  Your life may have some brokenness and heart ache in it right now or things are not working out so well but the story is far from over.

My suggestion is don’t dwell on the negative or the thing that has occurred in your life. God is still God and you are still praying hopefully so just believe good will be around the corner.

I don’t know how long or what circumstances will occur but if you have been diligently praying not succumbing to fear, hate, and what ifs God is still in control. Say things out loud when alone like “I thank you Lord that you hear me and I look forward to a miracle” and then try to stop dwelling on negative.

PRAYER: I need you Lord. As problems and situations in life weigh on my heart I need to believe good is going to happen. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Perfect Timing

 

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”Philippians 4:6-7

Have you ever been struggling with something allowing Satan to torment you and forgetting whose child you are? Well that was me recently and a trusted friend here in Idaho and another in Alabama spoke life into me reminding me whose Child I was. 

At about that time the Chris Tomlin song came on at the coffee shop I was in. I just raised my arms in the air and said “thank you Jesus”. Perfect timing for this song which I have included a link at end of this devotion.

 

Have you had stuff happen and just need to know God is still listening to you? Be still, talk to God often, don’t quit believing . Pray for those people who have hurt you that God would bless them.

 

PRAYER: Father your love for me as well as for the lost, hurting, confused, and downtrodden amazes me. Guard my heart and help me not sink into self pity. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Love Forgets, Forgives, Keeps No Record Of Wrongs

 

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.1 Corinthians 13:5(NIV) Bible Gateway

You say you love someone be it a spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, child, parents, friends, neighbor but do you keep a record of wrong they did to you in the past? If you do that is unfair. 

Do you think your Heavenly Father would do that to you? The answer is a resounding no. Also do you have a hard time letting go of things done to you thus building up resentment? Dwelling on things in the past is a dead end leading to nowhere good. 

In Isaiah 43:18-19 it reads “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” You have to get your mind focused once again on above not saying things aren’t fair, that wasn’t right, or that hurt me. Move on my friends. What do you have to prove except maybe dwelling makes you bitter and angry. Not a cool thing for a brother and sister in Christ. 

PRAYER:The road is long that leads to life and scripture says few find it. Father keep me on the road of kindness, truthfulness, repentance, and yes love. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Forgiveness Is Vital

 

Whoever would foster love covers over an offense, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends.Proverbs 17:9

Are you beaten down, hurt, feel no one listens or cares. Are you holding a grudge over something that happened years ago. 

My friends grudges, anger, bitterness originate with the Prince of darkness who right now is ruling our world. I wonder how long God will allow darkness before He steps in. 

You are only free when you let go of hate and anger. Don’t set yourself up for a stroke. Chill and give things to God. 

PRAYER: Thanks Lord for walking with me when it seems the world is caving or family and friends turn on me. Help me smile and pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Go To Throne Of God Not The Phone

 

Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.
Psalm 50:15

Let’s say you are so distraught over a personal problem in your life you just need to talk to a trusted friend which is perfectly okay but first and foremost before texting and calling you need to cry out to God. 

Have there been days where you totally have rushed out the door without a good quiet time with the Lord. If you do it is easy to get distracted by things in your life where Satan wants you to worry and hyper focus. 

Stop now, take a cleansing breath. Talk to God. Say hello there Lord it’s me again. I need you today. I need you every day. Give me peace in the midst of a storm. See it is easy. Don’t let Satan put lies in your head. You need God daily to survive the battles in your life. 

PRAYER: This day and every day I give to you. Thanks for helping me weather the storms in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Walking In Good Works

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”Ephesians 2:10

What do you need to adjust in your life to walk in good works? Your attitude/ Your heart? Your conduct? Only you can answer that question.

All of us need to try to walk like Jesus each and every day when we call ourselves believers. Sure you will mess up but don't kick yourself. 

Keep your mind on Christ and don't dwell on your mess ups. Ask God to walk with you and use you with those He places in your path. 

PRAYER: Father I want to be used by you inside and outside my home. In Jesus/ name. Amen. 

God’s Truth Is Like A Flashing Yellow Caution Light

Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?Romans 2:4

'Don't use the truth as a club on people' says Pastor Allen Jackson. How many of you have done that? I sadly admit I probably have. What is truth? It is the Word of God.

If you make a misstake admit it. Human nature wants to hide when we mess up.Don't justify your mess ups. Always ask forgiveness.Misrepresenting something is a form of  lying.

The Bible talks about the truth setting you free(John 8:22). Do you feel bound up and misguided in your life? Turn to God he can help you. 

PRAYER: Lord I want to walk in truth 365 days a year. I want my words to be pleasant like dew on grass or honey. Show me the way and keep me on the right path. In Jesus' name. Amen.

I Was A Mess-But God….

 

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”Psalm 46:10

Have you had days where you are so hyper focused on the wrong things or negative outcomes you simply can’t be still. It is hard to regroup and Satan wants you to be in a tizzy. 

Keep breathing, keep praying, keep trusting. Acknowledge that you don’t have the magic formula or all the answers. 

Focus on love, period. No judgment, no condescending thoughts in your head. If that starts up repent and ask God to deliver you from stinking thinking. Now go have a good day. 

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for helping me not freak out and be at peace. I thank you for helping me trust you and let go of lies of social media. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

D Day-80 Years Ago

"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom" (2 Corinthians 3:17)

This is a very special country you live in. Right now it is divided by political opinions and arguments on social and news media. There are so many freedoms unique to the United States thanks to the men and women who defended this great nation in many battles particularly World War 2 whose heroes are called the Greatest Generation. 

This is not a political post but a post for all reading to think about what this day means. Many younger people have no concept of all the sacrifices made to secure freedom and we are only one generation away from the loss of freedom, said President Ronald Reagan.

No One Is Beyond Redemption

 

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

No matter what you have done God can forgive you and redeem you. Murder,  prostitution, adultery,  hatred of family, theft, bribery, lying,porn addiction,  abortion, dishonoring your parents or elders in general, rape, child sex trafficking, cheating and  so the list goes on. 

Some sins have worst consequences but they are still sin. So many are smug thumbing their noses at God and mocking Him yet He still loves them and died for ALL. 

Today there is much darkness and deception in our world. Some can’t tell truth from misinformation and the enemy is having a hey day trying to destroy marriages,  family, and children. The truth is in the Word of God. Read it and be on your knees in prayer. 

PRAYER: Father I thank you that you love me so much you forgive me for when I have strayed from the design and purpose you have for me. Help me father to recognize strongholds and run from them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Talk To God-Let Him Have Your Broken Heart

 

 Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.Psalm 55:22

I am not certain what kind of worries you have now. Unexpected death in family. Family member who is shutting you out. Heartbreak over a child’s death to drugs or alcohol. Loss of a job. 

Four years ago when the pandemic swept the world things went crazy. Arguments ensued on who was right and wrong. People were laid off, my own son was  furloughed in his job as Airline Pilot. We were isolated and a person can only take so much of this before the crack emotionally. Online counseling thrived. My husband and I moved 2100 miles during this time thus causing heartbreak to a son who was only 6 hours from us. It was very heart wrenching. Decisions were hard. 

God wants you to talk to Him. He wants love and kindness in your heart and He does not want you to try to figure things out on your own. Trust Him, talk to Him. Forgive people who hurt you. Try to show kindness in this mixed up world. Don’t run to social media run to your Bible and hear from Him. 

PRAYER: Sometimes it is easy to offend people without even trying. I pray for any offended people to let go of bitterness, hate, anger and get their heart healed. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

It Is Not My Job To Change Others But To Love Unconditionally

 

“The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love”. Psalm 103:8

I am not a perfect person, no one is. As a writer I seek to convey God hugs and hope but sometimes things get misinterpreted. I might go off on a tangent not meaning to judge another and it comes across that way. 

Everyone is dealing with something. God wants us to love one another, period, not try to play Holy Spirit Junior and make some people into projects. 

What is your struggle today? Where is your heart breaking? What stronghold might be affecting your life? Jesus loves you this I know for the Bible tells me so. 

PRAYER: I ask forgiveness Lord if I ever hurt another with spoken or written words. I ask for wisdom in my day to day communication with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

How Is Your Mental Diet?

 

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.Romans 12:2

Probably many of you at one time were extra careful about what kind of food you ate be it for selfish reasons like bathing suit season, or health reasons,  or you wanted to wear smaller clothes. 

Have you ever considered your mental health like the things you think or allow in your mind?Vegging out on a screen of any kind is not ideal. The books or magazines you read. Movies you go see not discerning the rating and content. Even with your children or grandchildren be advised Hollywood likes to indoctrinate so be careful. 

Satan likes to play mind games with believers and no believers alike deceiving them or getting them to fixate on something that only causes fretting.Purpose in your heart you will make certain you are on a good mental diet. Don’t tiptoe into Satan’s territory. 

PRAYER: Lord God I struggle especially with controlling wrong thinking. Help me to get a steady mental diet of scripture to combat the devil’s tricks. Help those in my family seek to dwell on things above. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Hope Keeps You Going

 

And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.Romans 5:5

It is hope that keeps you going keeping the monsters at bay.  I heard this statement on an App called Lectio 365 on 30 May. It really is true. You always have hope even in the most dire of circumstances. 

I wear a tape measure bracelet which is based on Ephesians 3:20 that God can do immeasurably more than we ask or think. It is from my friend Kathe’s ministry called Hopelifters. When someone asks me about my bracelet I tell them then give them one to wear. It is a joy to me to spread hope. 

Do you feel hopeless my friend? God cares for you and nothing is too hard for God’s love to penetrate and miracles do still happen.
