GODLESS CHATTERBOX

It is no secret or big surprise that our mouths and the words we say can make us or break us. They can cause joy or sorrow. They can create peace or fear. They can cause hurt or set someone free. It is so important to think before we speak or words may slip out that a person never intended  to say thus creating all sorts of chaos. In today's world with non stop communication because of 'communication devices' (aka phones) it is even more important to think before you text, email, tweet, or speak.

2 Timothy 2:16 reminds us to "avoid godless chatter because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly." Godless chatter could be criticism, gossip, complaining, lying, bragging, stretching the truth, nagging,  meddling, arguing, bullying, belittling, and shaming among other things. Have you ever been guilty of any of these? If you have a weakness and you know it ,then work  on setting yourself on the path to godly chatter instead.

To help you in your journey to being more Christlike in your speech let me leave you with two verses the first is Ephesians 4:29 which says " let no unwholesome talk come out of your mouths but only that which is helpful in building others up according to their needs that it may benefit those who listen."   The next is found in Psalm 19:14 and  it simply says "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight oh Lord my strength and my redeemer."
If you can memorize these verses and put them into daily practice both at home and outside the home, then those  around you will be better off for it.

PRAYER: Lord help me be more careful about words that come out of my mouth. Help me slow down and think before I speak. Help me Lord chooses my words wisely so as to not hurt or offend anyone. Help me to respond in grace to those around me and to be kind back even if spoken to harshly. In Jesus name. Amen.
