A MEMORIAL TRIBUTE

On this day in 2001 most people in the United States can remember what they were doing when the planes flew into the north and south towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and later the Pentagon and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. It was an unbelievable scene as people jumped to their death on the sidewalks below or stayed to burn up. No one ever expected or could fathom such as horrific tragedy in our own free nation.  Some of you reading this may know someone affected by this in one way or another or may have even lost a friend or family member. It was just too unreal and left a mark on most of us in our memory banks that will ever be erased. It shows what happens when evil, anti Christian, jealous forces come against a great power. No one could ever imagine such a bizarre event unfolding. The United States was forever changed.

For days afterward American flags were sold out, blood drives collected an over over abundant supply, churches held prayer services, flags fluttered from cards, and in nearby Madison, Alabama the local police even went to The Big Apple to provide security near the Empire State Building. It was a time in which Americans from all backgrounds were united. But as time went by and memories faded and time took care of some wounds, we returned to our normal lives ,if you can call being patted down at the airport normal. We realized there were those living among us who we could not trust as they were enemies of our country and Americans in general.

Today let us not forget those brave fire fighters who rushed in the towers as others ran out some perishing as the towers collapsed. Or the police who assisted and many lost their lives as well. How about the medical teams who were bombarded by more patients that had ever been seen at one time in an Emrgency Room. Humanity was at its' best as we all came together. Chaplains tried to offer comfort to those who had lost friends and family.

It has been 11 years since that unspeakable day of sadness. We pick up the pieces as best we can and a new Freedom Tower is being erected in the footprints of the towers. New Yorkers and the world try to get on with life. We are more cautious. We are more thankful for freedom. We realize there are those among us who would seek to destroy us and we pray they are caught and that 'political correctness' doesn't end up causing even a worse disaster and more innocent lives all because an evil people hate Americans and what we stand for.

Let me leave you with a verse from John 14:27 which says "Peace I leave you my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

PRAYER: Lord Jesus we pray for protection from evil forces within our borders and outside our borders who do not like us. Lord it is hard to fathom the absolute disdain and hatred our enemies who killed so many on 9-11 have for us. Help us to remember to pray for them in Jesus name. Amen.
