HONESTY THE BEST POLICY

What does it mean to be honest? To do something right even when no one is watching. I think of the 'honor' box at our local state park where you have to deposit an entry fee even when no one is manning the entry booth at the entrance to the park. It is the 'honorable' thing to do. Sure no human may see if you do not put money in the box but God knows. And you will know. Another situation is paying to get in one movie at the local cinema but feeling 'justified' to sneak into a second movie you did not pay for since 'the theater charges too much anyway'. Still it is not right. Do the right thing. Maybe a student who cheats on a test. That indeed is not honorable. Let's say you are at a store and the clerk 'accidentally' gives you too much change.Do you say something or pocket the change saying 'finders keepers losers weepers"? I think we all know the answer to that one. There is alot of dishonesty going on in the business world when corners are cut to garner more money. When politicians lie it is not honest nor honorable. Taking home office supplies such as ink pens and paper clips  is not really honorable. Maybe copying Sunday School papers on the office copier is not the honest thing to do either.

The Bible says in Proverbs 11:3 "a good man is guided by his honesty; the evil man is destroyed by his dishonesty.'  Proverbs 11:5 says "Good people are directed by their honesty;the wicked shall fall beneath their load of sins." Numbers 32:23, "But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out."

Honesty is the quality of being honest, upright, and fair also truthful and sincere. Honesty and integrity sort of go hand in hand.

PRAYER: Lord God help us in the world around us to be honorable in all we say and do and be representatives of your kingdom. Forgive us for when we have fallen short. In Jesus Name. Amen.
