Anger Control 101

Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.James 1:20

Wow being mad causes one thing besides wrinkles and high blood pressure it causes a lack of joy. Someone has done something to offend you and you are so mad you could scream. Don’t let this rob your joy.

Emotions are a good thing but the ones like anger have to be kept in check or you could react in the wrong way and hurt someone, get fired, lose friends, cause an accident, break things, and so forth.

So my friend if something is pushing you to the edge and you feel your anger meter rising step back, pray, let whatever it is go and know that God does not want you returning evil for evil.

PRAYER: Father forgive me when I feel like getting back at someone when they have wronged me. They may not even know they hurt me. Help me be the bigger person, walk away, and forgive even when not asked to. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

It's All Okay

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speakand slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20

So we are getting ready for the last leg of our trip from Boise back to Huntsville when from the flight deck it was announced the ground crew had noticed a low nose gear tire so it had to be changed. It would take about 20 minutes. Groans could be heard throughout the cabin. People get anxious and don't like waiting. But safety is first priority especially when flying at 35,000 feet.

What type of things do you get irritated about that you really have no control over? In every situation it is best to not overreact. Pause, take a breath, pray. Then relax and let God work. Getting mad only agitates others and does nothing to help.

The next time something unexpected occurs practice this formula and see if you don't handle things a bit better.

Things always work out in the end so sit back, pray, and let God work in the situation.
PRAYER: This is the day you have made Lord and I choose to rejoice and be glad in it no matter what happens. Help me slow down and learn to wait on you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Don't Spout Off

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20

Don't be the 'little teapot'  from the old children's song and let others "hear you spout" even though you may feel like it. Long lines at fast food that are anything but fast, long waits for a doctor appointment or auto repair, or at a very long stop light. Many scenarios can cause a person to 'lose it' and spout off.

Take a deep breath. Breathe in God's goodness and blessings and breathe out anger and hatred. Breathe in love and breathe out arrogance. Whatever it is in life that makes you want to steam like a tea pot, get it under control before it controls you. Only the enemy gets a charge out of angry steaming people.

Today whatever you face, whatever comes your way, be prepared to reflect Jesus' in your outward response and also let peace rule your inner self. You will feel much better in the long run.

PRAYER: Anger is a common emotion but it does not have to rule me or control me. I choose to be at peace no matter what is thrown at me. Give me your strength to handle all things that come my way. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Angry? Tell Me About It!

My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires. James 1:19-20

Being angry is a normal human emotion we all can experience whether Christian or not. It is trying to control anger that matters. Different situations can set up anger. Broken promises or contracts. Being taken advantage of. A government that won't listen to those who elected them. Being cut off on the highway. Yes anger is normal but acting on it is not. Look at all the black versus white shootings lately. Anger out of control is the culprit. Lives ended, jail time for others, and race relations seriously injured.

When you are angry do not overreact and say things you will be sorry for later. The 24 hour rule is best. Don't completely go ballistic with a poor phone agent who is just doing their job. Try to act as if Jesus were sitting right by you. Know that this too shall pass. If you have road rage perhaps it is best to not drive. Concentrate on your own driving and pray for the guy you want to call 'idiot'. If someone dings your new car try to blow it off. Anger is not the answer.

Satan is the one who wants you stirred up and itching for conflict. Beat him at his game and stay cool, calm, and collected.

PRAYER: Some people think they have a right to be angry but all it does is rob joy and peace. I choose to be peaceful and to apologize to those in my life I have hurt with actions or words. In Jesus' name. Amen.
