Putting Away Christmas

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.  For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. John 3:16-17

Yesterday I wrote about putting Jesus away in the attic and why we should not do that. Christmas is more than a tree, decorations, parties, gifts, lights, merriment, food, cookies, and oh yes toy soldiers and Santa Claus. It should never be put away. Every year at this time many of you are busy taking down the tree and carting boxes up to your attic or in storage somewhere.

When you get wrapped up in this time of year for the wrong reasons there can be a huge letdown emotionally when it is all over. The time where we are to celebrate the gift of the Christ child turns into a fiasco and far from the original intent.  Jesus should have a place of prominence all year round and the focus on December 25 should be Him, period.

God so loved this world that He gave us Jesus. Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly. He does not force himself on anyone. Just as when he walked the earth in his 33 years and many rejected and mocked him, so too today this happens. Speak up when people ask you the reason for the hope you have within you. Jesus is the way and only way!

PRAYER: I am grateful for Christmas time and love to have family and friends around but help me never forget what this day means and help me to let this feeling live in me the other 364 days. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Best Gift Ever!

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Merry Christmas. The day has arrived. Are we going to be able to enjoy the true meaning of this day or are we too exhausted with all the activities leading up to it that it is time for a nap?

Think about what this day means. The birth of the savior of the world. Born to a young virgin in a manger, or stable in other words. No fancy accommodations or five star service. People  talking  behind her back because she is pregnant and was not married. The towns folk probably loved this gossip. She was the chosen one. Through her the Messiah would be born.

Indeed she was special and gave birth to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. The best gift ever indeed.

Is CHRIST or Santa at the center of your celebration today?

PRAYER: I am so thankful for your birth, death, and resurrection. Happy Birthday JESUS! In your name we pray. Amen.
