For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you.Romans 12:3
Many places in scripture it speaks of being humble but in this ‘selfie’ obsessed age we are living in humility is apparently the last thing on many people’s minds.
When you do something good scripture reminds us to not tell everyone or you lose your reward.(Matthew 6:2) Also it says to think of others as better than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3)
Young people especially are captivated by selfie worship. You can’t hardly go anywhere without seeing someone snapping a picture of themselves. What caused this to happen? Look no further than 2 Timothy 3:1-2 which says “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy.” Sound a little like today’s culture? Christian parents guide those young people away from self on onto others. Maybe some of you fall prey to this as well. Look to others and away from yourself. And resist the urge to tout your own glory.
PRAYER: Father God I have been guilty of putting self on throne at times or boasting so forgive me. Help me learn to reach out to others and get my mind off of me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Becky: This is a wonderful message for all, not just those who are young. We all need to not brag on who we are or what we do for God. Peace and blessings to you.
