Our Father Who Art In Heaven

Let God help you love, forgive, and not seek revenge. He can. In a recent Bonanza episode character Ben Cartwright had befriended a Bannock Indian who later caused all sorts of confusion and trouble between misunderstandings between white man and native Americans. Long story short when Cartwright played by the late Lorne Greene started reciting the Lord’s Prayer his Indian captor couldn’t stand hearing it. 

Yes it is a TV show and for you younger folks who never survived with  only 3 channels it was on in the 60’s and is on re-runs now. It taught values, morals and character. Most of the programs on television back then did. 

Cowboy days there were not TV’s, radios, and other distractions but there were Bibles. In this particular episode it was used quite a bit. It was a very refreshing contrast to today where you have to even be careful what kind of advertising is shown that has low moral standards. Brother and sister the answer is always come to Jesus nothing more nothing less.  

PRAYER: I pray for people who are having a hard time letting go of hate and anger. Soften their hearts to make things right with whoever they are at odds with. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Blessed Again

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights."James 1:17

A tag on a car gave me another title. Yes you are blessed cause you are walking. Yes you are blessed because you can’t walk but have a walker or wheelchair. You get the idea. 

Start 2026 off with a blessing fest or blessing jar. Write one thing a day you consider a blessing and then in 2027 go back and look at the blessings you wrote. 

And while you are at it why not be a blessing to someone else. Hmmm. 

PRAYER: Lord use me to bring joy to someone hurting. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Party On Dude!

“I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’”Luke 12:19-20

One of my favorite movies of the 80’s was ‘Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure’ starring the now very famous Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter( currently on Broadway together). It was about two misfits who had to time travel with the help of George Carlin in order to pass a history test at San Dimas High School. I know sounds corny but it was a fun movie.

Their famous phrases were “be excellent to each other” and “party on dude”. Now how on earth will I weave this into a Christian devotion? Our world likes to party so to speak or “eat, drink, and be merry” but life doesn’t work that way. There will be good times and not so good times.  

If you have trusted God as your savior and believe in the infallible word of God you will be saved. Don’t get caught up in the world’s idea of success or right versus wrong or you will be on a slippery slope. Keep your eyes on Jesus and believe in Him and the best party ever is awaiting you in Heaven. 

PRAYER: I need to take not fret when things don’t go my way but to trust in the plan God has for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Your Timeline Or God’s Timeline?

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”Ecclesiastes 3:1

There are many things you may be waiting for and hoping in 2026 it will be a breakthrough year but by all means you want it to be God’s timeline not yours. 

It is not easy to wait and depending on your personality you may be antsy to jump ahead. Never a good idea. 

Some of you may have been waiting for years for a relationship to be healed. Maybe you are waiting for good news on a job offer. Whatever it is try to be still and let the Holy Spirit work. 

PRAYER: Today I choose to ask God to help me truly be still and to let go of people in my life who don’t want to be my friend and focus on ones who do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hold That Tongue In 2026

“Whoever winks maliciously causes grief, and a chattering fool comes to ruin.”‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭10‬:‭10‬ ‭

I have had people say how can I be so personal in my devotions but I am not always and sometimes people assume I must have peaked into their window or soul. I write what the Holy Spirit gives me ultimately hoping to help another struggling.

Sometimes it is better to not say anything or to air your dirty laundry so to speak. Does your heart hurt going into the new year? I have to admit mine does at times but I try to continually give it to God.

Everyone needs a trusted kind person in their life they can confide in during times of heartache and struggle. You are not alone. Talk to God everyday. Continue to pray.

PRAYER: I need you Lord as I can’t do things on my own without you guiding me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Time For Relationship Repair In 2026?

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." Psalm 147:3

What is on your list of ‘to do’s’ for the New Year? Cleaning out closets and attic? Losing weight? Running a 5K? Hiking the Camino?(on mine)Restoring a broken relationship? Whatever it is a new year is perfect time to turn the page. 

Keep in mind you are not the Holy Spirit. You can pray but don’t step into Holy Spirit roll. 

God hears your heart. Do you want to cast off weights that have kept you from fulling enjoying healing and peace? Search your heart. 

PRAYER: Lord help me be guided by the Holy Spirit in all I say and do. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Love Bears All Things

Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.1 Corinthians 13:7 ESV Bible Gateway

If you are going through a situation with a friend, family member, or spouse keep these words in mind. Now if in physically abusive situation it is best to seek help. 

God hears your heart. His desire is for brothers and sisters and husbands and wives and friends to live in peace and unity. 

1 Corinthians 13 is known as ‘the love chapter’ in the Bible and it is good to go back and read every now and then. Maybe start 2026 committed to live in harmony not allowing Satan to drive any wedges of anger or hate in relationships. Forgive if you need to. Say you’re sorry if you need to. But remember whatever you do to bring glory to Christ. You will make devil so mad. 

PRAYER: I choose love, peace, forgiveness, letting go of grudges or anything keeping lists of wrongdoings I have kept. Help me stay on track in 2026. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
