Britches Too Big?

Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips. Proverbs 27:2

Humility is something each of us should strive for. Tooting your own horn never is a way to win close friends.

It is God who has gifted each of us with skills, talents, gifts, and abilities and even the gift of giving where you may like to bless others not  ever expecting anything in return.

Famous wealthy people put their pants on the same way you do just more expensive pants. Those people with the more expensive britches should remember who gave them the ability to buy them and not get puffed up. Do you need to work on letting your virtues speak for themselves?

PRAYER: Father God I certainly don’t want to be a braggart and boaster. If I boast have it only be of what you have done for me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Shhhh!

Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you. Matthew 6:4
Your reward is from God so if that is the case why do some feel they have to announce their good deeds or charity to others? Maybe inferiority or wanting to impress?  The best reward is when you do something for someone either anonymously or do it and do not tell others. The Bible talks about this too when fasting not to go tell everyone but to do it between you and God. Even when praying it says to not draw attention to yourself. The whole thing is about God, period. It is not about us. We are to remain humble in all walks of life. If we have a degree from an impressive University it is not necessary to let everyone know. When you win an award those who need to know will know. It impresses me to hear of military heroes who do not think they deserved a particular award. Humble people will always be exalted. We gain nothing by trying to make ourselves look good or important to others.
If you have trouble keeping silent about accomplishments ask God to create in you a truly giving and humble heart. Anytime you get the urge to brag give God the glory. All we have is from Him anyway.
PRAYER: You truly are King of kings and Lord of lords. To you be all glory, praise and honor. In Jesus' name.Amen.

Humble Man

He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. Luke 1:52

It is certainly tempting to want to brag or maybe let others know about a good thing we have done or maybe a family member. A boss of mine in the Army used to say "let your virtues speak for themselves." Proverbs 27:2 says the same thing in a nutshell "Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips."

It sure is more pleasant to be around someone who is not boasting all the time.  Humility is a trait we all should strive to have as a believer.  It is not necessary to prove to everyone how good we are. Our only goodness comes from the Lord anyway. Try to get in the habit of giving God the glory for the good things that happen in life. After all, the Lord is the one who exalts, we do not do things solely on our own efforts. This Bible verse I highlighted about rulers is very true as well. Rulers that squish their 'subjects' and feel superior are usually dictators or tyrants. Leaders are not to "lord" over their people and that even includes leadership in the business world.

All people, especially believers, need to realize that nothing they do is apart from God and to Him be the glory, great things He has done!

PRAYER: Lord forgive me if I have ever been less than humble about anything and tooted my own horn. I really know that you are the one who gives all things and blesses us with abilities to be who we are. Thank you Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.
