All I Can Do Is Pray

I can do all this through him who gives me strength.Philippians 4:13 

Have you ever caught yourself uttering in despair well at least I can pray or all I can do is pray meaning of course the outcome is up to God? 

Whatever the concern that has you anxious if you have prayed and given it to God leave it there. Easier said than done. Don’t try to be Holy Spirit Junior fixing and manipulating as it will only tend to backfire. 

I was pondering one day when I was relatively calm, maybe once I truly am at peace and stop fretting then I will see changes. What do you think?

PRAYER: Keep me minding my own business and busy so I don’t sink into constantly struggling to wait on God. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

What Is Prayer?

 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.Philippians 4:6 NIV Bible Gateway

 

Prayer is not a wish list or secret formula but simply talking to God. Whatever is on your heart simply talk to God. He fights for you. 

When you keep things to yourself and don’t release them to God you are hurting yourself. Release your concerns to God. 

Trust in the Lord with ALL your heart it says in Proverbs 3:5. Don’t trust yourself but lean in to God. If you can, find a prayer partner or trusted prayer group. I have been part of Moms in Prayer since 1996. Don’t accept walking in darkness as your normal. Release your concerns to God and wait for the amazing things that are coming. 

PRAYER: I need you every hour and I seek your face. Guard my heart and mind. Protect those in my family I love dearly. Bring reconciliation where it is needed. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Don’t Camp Out In The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death

 

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.Psalm 23:4 KJV Bible Gateway

Most people are familiar with Psalm 23 hearing it at funerals. This chapter is not just for funerals but for everyday life. Verse four is the focus today. 

It doesn’t necessarily refer to actually dying but any bad things going on that cause doom and gloom thinking. Death is mostly what people think about since the King James Version says ‘death’. 

Any low point or valley in your life you are going through  don’t stay there. The word through indicates God wants you lifted up and rejoicing again. So don’t pitch a tent on that valley. 

PRAYER: Lord I need you each and every day especially on dark days when my spirit needs lifted up. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God’s Salt Shaker

"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." - Matthew 5:13-14 (ESV)

What is the purpose of salt? It seasons and help preserve food. It also has restorative qualities in soothing a soar throat or healing in other skin issues. It’s pretty essential. 

Now imagine yourself a giant salt shaker in the marketplace. You are on an airplane traveling, in a restaurant, at church, or at work. All these places need Jesus light and ‘flavor’. 

Are you willing to be God’s salt shaker and go wherever and season the places around you for Christ? 

PRAYER: I want to be the seasoning to bring God’s flavor to a lost world wherever I go. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Pray For Influence

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”  Matthew 5:16

 

Who is it you are praying for? Grandchildren? Children? Parents? Friends? Youth Group leader? Minister? Priest? Rabbi? President? City officials?

 

Whoever it is pray for them first to know Jesus if they don’t already. 

Next pray that you will have influence in the circles of friends and family you find yourself part of. Pray that you will say just the right thing at the right time. 

Pray that God will use you in a mighty way and that if any one is having issues you will know just what to say and how to pray. 

PRAYER: Lord I want what I say and do to further your kingdom and encourage those I am praying for. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Just Quit

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.Galatians 6:9

Have you ever felt like just throwing in the towel so to speak? You know you were called to do something by The Holy Spirit but you keep running into negativity, criticism, attacks so you just are thinking why bother. 

God does not want you to quit. Let’s say you start a Bible club for children but it doesn’t seem to be successful. You need a breakthrough. God can turn things around if you believe. The negativity seems to be everywhere so you just have to press on. 

The enemy wants you to lose your desire and give up on your dream. You know your purpose and calling but negativity keeps clouding your vision. God’s grace and anointing came on you so never give up. 

PRAYER: Lord help anyone reading this who has a dream or vision forge ahead. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Did I Say That?

Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before. In this way you will win the respect of those who are not believers, and you will not have to depend on anyone for what you need.1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Those who grew up in the eighties may remember Family Matters and the character Steve Urkel played by actor Jaleel White. He would occasionally utter “did I do that” when something went wrong. That is how I felt when recently I accidentally said a swear word in front of a close friend after hitting a curb. “Did I just say that?” Shame enveloped me. 

Hey you and I are human and yes occasionally a slip up is made nothing major mind you just saying a bad word. Yikes. The thing is, recognize your errors of judgment and try to not do it again. 

When you accept Christ you realize you are an imperfect human being striving to be more Christlike.  Don’t beat yourself up when you fall short. Learn from mistakes and move on. 

PRAYER: Father I thank you for grace and forgiveness and for loving me warts and all and not disqualifying me from Christian service when I mess up. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Do You Need To Find Your Way To Jesus

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13

 

Have you found Jesus? Some sarcasm thrown in would be the answer “I didn’t know He was lost”. To say finding Jesus meaning have you made an effort to read the Bible, pray, dedicate your life to Him and hopefully find a dynamic place to worship with like minded people. 

Many have had bad experiences in their lives or with church or ‘church people’ or maybe their denomination doesn’t refer to the Almighty as Jesus so they do t know how to respond to the question. 

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one comes to the Father(God) without Him it says in John 14:6. Have you made Him Lord of your life? 

PRAYER: Lord God help those who are wandering to come back to you or those who have never accepted you to come to the cross. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Clearing Clutter



"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with Patience the race set before us. Hebrews 12:1

It helps to get rid of all kinds of clutter. There are those people who have trouble throwing things away and are called hoarders but you can be a digital hoarder too. Recently I had trouble getting my computer to turn on. It was jam packed with digital clutter from as far back as 2010. Yikes. 

Is your life itself cluttered with wrong thinking that stresses you out and creates havoc in your life? Maybe this wrong thought making leads to wrong choices. Clutter is like a weed that can choke you and drag you down. 

When your life is clutter free things go so much better. 

PRAYER: Father I am thankful to be able to get rid of wrong thinking and things that cause me to go the wrong way in life. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Have You Checked With Headquarters?

"Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases." Psalm 115:3

 

The term headquarters may be more relevant to the Armed Forces but in every organization there has to be a head of some sort. The headquarters building where the executives run the show so to speak. 

As a human on this Earth you can choose to accept or reject God. He is the head of all things and without Him nothing would exist yet there are still people who are digging in their heals trying to do life their own way by their own rules. God is patient and He wants all people to come to Him yet mankind and even some churches have their own rules. 

God’s rules are in the word of God. He wants all people to come to know the truth and be set free from a life of sin and death. The devil works overtime to misrepresent the church and attempts to instill in humans that they don’t need organized religion. Personally religion is not from God but freedom in Christ is. Don’t get hung up on your denomination but start thinking what is it God would have you to do. 

PRAYER: I want to be used by you Lord to draw people to you not repel them. Forgive me if I have done anything to turn someone away from the cross. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Make It Your Ambition

..and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

I was watching an interview with the late Duck Commander CEO and Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson where he mentioned today’s verse. Phil passed away 25 May 25 at age 79. He was a devout Christ follower and this was probably his life verse. It’s a good one for sure. 

Would you be able to honestly say it is your life’s ambition to mind your own business, help others, and not be dependent on anyone?  This is truly a verse to commit to memory. 

Whatever you say or do ask God to help make it glorify Him. Do not just think of yourself but think of others and ho

you can help them. When you have an opportunity share Christ with others. 

PRAYER: Today I want whatever I say, think, or do to bring glory to God. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Running With The Devil Or With Jesus?

 

He rules by His might forever;His eyes keep watch on the nations;Let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Psalm 66:7

 

You are either for God or against him. You are born with a sinful nature simply because of the ‘fall’ of mankind in the Garden of Eden. Someone, hopefully a parent, has taught you or  will teach you about the Lord but if you have no spiritual guidance by your parents who will you get guidance from and how will you have a moral compass of good and evil and right versus wrong?

You are either in love with God and want to please Him or you are too in love with this world. The Prince of darkness, Satan is in charge of the evil in culture. He blinds people to the truth to try to keep them in a web of sin and darkness. What do you give the most attention to? Truthfully answer that.

If you know people that need Jesus or need to cast off works of darkness don’t give up on them that is what Satan hopes you will do. You pray for them and tell Satan they are covered by the blood of Jesus and pray it In Jesus’ name.

PRAYER: This world tries to lure and trap humans into realms of darkness and sometimes the bait is taken before they realize it. I pray for anyone I know friend or family who needs to get right with God and run to Him again. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Nothing Can ‘Shake’ Me

 I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Psalm 16:8

So you think you are pretty together and strong and you can take anything dished out at you? How about rejection from family or friends, losing your job, a bad medical diagnoses, being labeled unfairly with no chance to defend yourself. You get the idea right. 

God loves you so you ought to love others no matter how mean spirited they are to you. Hold on to hope that tomorrow is another day as was the end line in Gone With The Wind. 

Be still, pray, breathe, hope. That’s it. 

PRAYER: Lord I need you daily to help me when my mind get fixated on a loop of wrong thoughts. I try my best to hang in there sometimes it is very hard. Give me strength. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Just Be Still Can You?

“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

There is a children’s book entitled ‘Little Monkey Calms Down’ and I often feel that is me the monkey needing to chill. 

Depending on your personality type do you ever experience that feeling of thinking maybe you need to go to ‘time out’ somewhere before you pop a cork? 

Perhaps you are misunderstood by people and you really just want to be loved. When you write books or devotions, I find you risk being vulnerable and at times people may not be able to understand why you are  sharing so much. God is with you never forget that. Whatever dilemma lies ahead pray and seek His face. 

PRAYER: Lord you love me and care for me even when put down by others I know you think I have much to offer and am special in your eyes. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Who’s Your Daddy?

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.Ephesians 6:4

Fathers are very important in a child’s development that is why it is unfortunate when children are born to a single mom as they have no male figure to model after. Whether the child is male or female it is critical for them developing a healthy perspective of family as God designed in the Bible. 

Todays society tries to brush men under the carpet making the female to be all that is needed but to the contrary as the enemy wants to destroy manhood and family and what better way than trying to make ladies be in charge. 

Sometimes families end up with no dad after death or divorce but it is essential that the children see healthy role models of a man as head of the family as there can not be two heads. Now some may take exception to this no thanks to the feminist movement but in the end God’s design is best. If your dad is alive I pray you have a good relationship and if not I pray for reconciliation or forgiveness. 

PRAYER: Today Lord I thank you for dads everywhere. I thank you that God made them male and female. Give men the strength they need to father their children well. I pray for dads to remember their role as spiritual head to guide children still at home. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

I Am At My Wit’s End

They reeled and staggered like drunkards;they were at their wits’ end. Psalm 107:27 NIV Bible Gateway 

I am not sure what this phrase means or what a ‘wit’ is but there is a scripture in the Bible about this I found out with my Tuesday morning zoom Alabama  Prayer call. 

If you are at your wit’s end you think there is no hope and feel like you could go crazy. God is our way out. There is no need to feel helpless or lost. Satan comes to destroy hope and he is the one who makes you feel like you are at your breaking point. You never are. 

Psalm 46:1 says he is our very present help in time of trouble. What are you facing today? Do you feel like you are stuck? Keep in mind it is the enemy who is the one trying to overwhelm and destroy you and you can defeat him by power of God’s word. 

PRAYER: Father God many times I have felt in despair or at my wits end but you are there to comfort me and lift me up. I pray for anyone today staggering under the weight of heavy burdens to be set free. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Mere Men, Big God

And he changes the times and the seasons; he removes kings, and sets up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding;Daniel 2:21

As I sat gazing out my window at 35,000 feet at the cities and countryside below I thought of how great our God is and how He is the one who ultimately rules and reigns. Kings, princes, presidents, tyrants, and dictators may think they are in control but ultimately God is on the throne.  

My heart breaks for those people who don’t believe in God and can’t see anything beyond science or Darwin in creation. God lets mankind go about his work on Earth and intervenes when prayers go up or when He has to. The future is in His hands not yours as much you and  I may like to take credit for it. 

I stand amazed and in awe of His magnificence especially gazing down from my airplane window. God has given mankind the ability to do so much even to build airplanes and drill for petroleum but let us never forget to praise Him and thank Him daily for the ability to breathe and move about. 

PRAYER: Protect my heart and those I love from falsehoods and deception. Keep my heart and those I love pure. Help me stay on the path that leads to Heaven. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Do Not Be Ashamed Of Me

If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of them when he comes in his Father’s glory with the holy angels.”Mark 8:38 NIV Bible Gateway

Do you love Jesus? Do you act like it or do you hide your light under a basket so to speak. 

I get excited when out in public and see people at a coffee shop having Bible study, or at a restaurant bowing their heads in prayer. How are people going to find Jesus if you keep running and hiding afraid to tell others. 

Our world is getting darker and darker and those ‘torch bearers’ need to hold that torch aloft for the world to see. 

PRAYER: Lord use me to spread your love wherever I go whether in my neighborhood or in a store or coffee shop. Forgive me if I ever act scared. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

God’s ’Bow’ Of Promise

I set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a sign of a covenant between Me and the earth. Genesis 9:13

God’s rainbow is a promise that after the flood that destroyed all life in Noah’s day that He would never bring a flood again to cause all flesh to die and the symbol of his vow would be a rainbow in the sky. That rhyming sentence was in a children’s book I used to read to my sons when they were young. 

God’s rainbow has 7 distinct colors each meaning something. God’s colors are perfect and unique. It symbolizes God’s covenant and His love of mankind to never destroy the Earth again with a flood. 

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands “ it says in  Psalms 19:1 How magnificent is our wonderful God designing such a beautiful symbol of hope and promise for we mere humans. 

PRAYER: Lord thank you for your rainbow that lights up the sky after a storm and brings delight to all people especially little children. It helps me feel your presence to see it. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Have You Quieted Your Heart?

No weapon formed against you shall prosper,And every tongue which rises against you in judgmentYou shall condemn.This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,And their righteousness is from Me,”Says the Lord.Isaiah 54:17 NKJV Bible Gateway

In the midst of whatever you are dealing with on your life have you taken time to sit quietly before the Lord for a chat? I know I need to do it more often. 

You rush through your days sometimes doing ‘3 Minutes With God’ or maybe my ‘Sips’ book but beyond that do you make time to get away and be still? 

It is important to charge your spiritual battery to keep you going in the storms of life. You feed it with God’s word daily. Meditate on scripture and read verses out loud if you are able. Do not allow the enemy to take any ground. 

PRAYER:Help me Father to not get saturated with the things of this world. My hope and focus are in you and on you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Tend Your Spiritual Fruits

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.Galatians 5:22-24 NIV Bible Gateway

I have so many friends that are blessed with a green thumb or in other words the love of gardening and the ability to keep things blooming and growing. For many such as myself it is a challenge. 

How about your spiritual fruits? Matthew 7:16 says By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Basically meaning if you are walking with the Lord you should be producing a harvest of spiritual fruits. 

Does anything in your spiritual garden need pruned to help it grow better? To help  your fruit grow you water it daily with prayer and God’s word. Are you in full bloom for the Lord? 

PRAYER: Thanks Lord for each new day. Help use me where I can make an impact. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

God Not A Big Bad Bully

The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

2 Peter 3:9

Some people may wonder why God is a meanie and won’t let everyone into His exclusive club in Heaven. First off He is far from mean and it is far from exclusive but is a kingdom prepared for those who have repented and love Him and follow Him. And yes it will be pretty fabulous and no screenwriter on Earth can begin to imagine how wonderful and glorious it truly will be. 

This verse is pretty cut and dried in that He isn’t willing for ANY to perish, and all people have a chance to turn from evil and do good although Satan trips many people up with lies and deceit. His tool is confusion too. 

If you are sick and fear dying don’t be scared because if you do pass from this temporary dwelling place and you accepted Christ as savior you will wake up in Heaven and probably wonder why you wanted to stay here so bad. Run your race to win. Tell others how to find Christ. Pray for the lost and those who really don’t think they have time for God. 

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for the gift of eternal life. I pray for those far from you or for those who have shelved their Bible cause they don’t need it. Wake people up. In Jesus ‘ name. Amen. 

My Angel On The Mountain

 "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."Ephesians 4:32

  I was hiking one day and just started to feel weak and like I needed protein badly. A hiker with three dogs in tow told me she had a protein bar if I would like it. I graciously thanked her and had no money on me but she didn’t care. After I had eaten it I was back to normal. 
  
  
  You may not be a hiker but you may have similar cases where you can buy lunch for someone, put gas in a car, buy groceries for a needy person and so forth. My angel’s name was Laura and I hope to repay her someday. 

If you have a way to help people help them. Be kind do what you can to represent Jesus at all times. 

PRAYER: Lord God help me to be your hands and feet wherever I go. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Trust God, Not Man

Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help.Psalm 146:3 KJV Bible Gateway

In the United States our motto is ‘In God We Trust’ but do we really do that or do we trust in leaders, weapon systems, friends, money, power, and so forth? 

Man can make plans but it is ultimately God that causes things to succeed or fail. The enemy Satan hates freedom and loves division and conflict and would love to see our country crumble. 

God blesses those whose hearts are turned towards Him and those who are humble and can admit mistakes. He hates a lying tongue and trickery. Wherever you are today stop right now and pray for our nation. Pray for unity. Pray that those in charge will look to God for their strength and people who mess up can admit it and get right with you Lord. 

PRAYER: Father my heart breaks when Satan tries to divide our great nation. Spiritual warfare is real help all believers recognize our battles are against the enemy who would love to destroy this Christian nation on the eve of its’ 250th birthday. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

(81st Anniversary of D Day)

Learning To Praise God In Spiritual Battles

 



 And when they began to sing and to praise, the Lord set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which were come against Judah; and they were smitten.2 Chronicles 20:22

What battles are you fighting in your life? Sometimes things can get downright overwhelming and you may not know where to go for help or comfort and keep things bottled up inside of you. 

You may be in a court battle, family crisis, misunderstanding with friend or neighbor, dealing with addiction. Whatever it is God can help you fight your battle. 

You fight it on your knees in prayer and don’t be tempted to play Holy Spirit Junior. Be still. I will say it again. Be still. God is on the move. 

PRAYER: Lord I often times feel like so much is rising up against me and I know it is Satan trying to destroy my joy and my God given purpose. Help me keep running for the finish line. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Mental, Spiritual, Emotional, and Physical Health

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform tothe pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.Romans 12:1-2

These four areas of health are vitally important. Are you doing your part to keep up with all four? 

Mentally do you feed your mind the truth meaning the word of God daily and steer clear of lies of the culture. Do you saturate your mind with social media at the expense of having a quiet time? Is your body in good physical shape if not maybe time to make a walk daily a priority. Emotionally are you able to tune in to God and release the lies of Satan? And spiritually do you desire growth and closeness with the Lord or just church?

To lead a balanced life you have to make Christ a priority. You are in the world but are not supposed to be like the world. That is a daily challenge to insure you are walking in the Spirit and not in the flesh. 

PRAYER: Dear Lord I need you each and every day and desire to be filled to overflowing with your spirit. Use me to help draw others closer to the kingdom. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

Luxuries Jesus Never Had

Why do you pass judgment on your brother? Or you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. Romans 14:10

Do you consider yourself blessed? You should. As I sit here at an area called The Village watching fountains and birds and shoppers I also see the janitorial staff scurrying about keeping the place clean for the privileged aka customers. 

You work hard to earn money and some get to attend college or go on to higher education. Never get to a certain status and begin looking down on ‘the little people’. God has a reason for each person on the face of the Earth. 

Jesus would go where the needy were and there are needy here even amongst those who appear all together. You never know what someone  is dealing with so don’t pass judgment. Whatever you are dealing with God cares as simple as that sounds. Take time today to get on your knees and give him thanks and share your heart. 

PRAYER: Father thank you for Earthly temporary blessings you have provided. I lift up those people needing a spiritual or physical healing. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

God Does More

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.Ephesians 3:20-21

Are you fretful over something? Do you want to experience true peace in your situation whether a health crisis, relational crisis, work issue and more? 

Today’s verse says it all and that is God can do Immeasurably More than what you could even imagine or think. The key is to get that message to your thoughts swirling in your head. Relax. Trust God. 

Start today waking up saying thanks for the day no matter what you are facing or how you feel. Purpose in your heart to know God Does More and trust Him. His plan is always perfect. 

PRAYER: Lord guard my mind from random thinking and help me focus on you Jehovah Jireh my provider. In Jesus’ name. Amen. 

It’s All About Me

 

The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”Mark 12:31

Recently I was visiting the Idaho Veterans Cemetery and saw the back side of a Veteran headstone where the spouse info was placed and my title today is what it said. How odd? Why? I never knew a private sentiment could be chiseled in the marble headstone provided as a benefit to the veteran and their spouse. 

Would you want what people remember about you to be so blunt and straight forward? I joked and said if I had a Civilian headstone and not the VA marker I would put “I told you I was sick”. Might bring a chuckle to a grieving friend. 

What are people going to remember about you? Our life here is so short even though many live as if there is nothing else. What do you want people to remember you by. I want to have an altar call where people who don’t know Jesus have a chance for salvation. Let your ministry go on beyond your temporary life.
