Relax, It's Almost 2017!

Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. 1 Corinthians 10:24

Wow I don't know about you but I love fresh starts! Tomorrow it is 2017! With the start of a  New Year comes the freshness of starting over. Taking a breath from all the busy activities over the past few weeks leading up to Christmas. Now you can relax. Yay!

What are your plans for 2017? Do you have a resolutions list made? Perhaps projects you want to compete? Maybe a bucket list item or two to achieve? One thing is for sure you have to keep your focus on above, meaning God. It does not take long to focus on bad stuff and Satan is the expert at trying to get you buried in self pity, regret, fear, worry, and anger. Don't allow it.

Start today to make up your mind to not think or say negative things, this means talking about people behind their back or being ugly to someone to their face to include yes telemarketers. Tall order at times. Have problems with people? Give them to God. Have problems with yourself? Give it to God. Now go make a difference and bring in 2017 in a glorious way.

PRAYER: Oh Lord Jesus thanks for yet another year. A year to sing your praises. A year to right wrongs. A year to show love and kindness. Guide me each day to do your will. In Jesus' name. Amen.

One Time Becomes A Pastime

Stay away from every kind of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22
I will borrow a line from the Broadway Musical 'Hamilton' for my title. Sometimes doing something one time whether good or bad may become a pastime. If it is hanging around wrong influences that is not such a good thing but if it is starting a diet, starting to exercise, or getting into word of God habit, then it is a good thing.
As 2017 draws nearer have you made resolutions yet to change certain things in your life? Do some of them involve getting rid of wrong pastimes? The Holy Spirit convicts each person of what needs to occur in their life.
Today why not reflect on 2016 and purpose in your heart things you will do next year to get on the right path or to stay on an even stronger path. Don't allow wrong influences to corrupt your morals or beliefs. Be firm yet loving. Pray for those who don't necessarily agree with you. Keep your mouth from saying mean or ugly things even if the person doesn't hear you. In other words start 2017 out being Christlike and try to maintain that all year long.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus I thank you for the times I have had to learn lessons the hard way even though not pleasant. I thank you that you extend grace and mercy to we sinners who often fall short of your glory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Easy Street

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. James 1:3
I love to snow ski and only get to go usually on one trip a year but it is so fun. Even though I have skied since 1997 I still am most comfortable on the green runs which for non skiers are the easier less challenging ones. Still fun but you aren't petrified that you will kill yourself. The runs have catchy names and most ski resorts have a green run called Easy Street.

In life don't you wish it were all easy streets? But if in fact it were you would never learn anything or grow. Sometimes it takes a bit of pain and struggle to have things turn out strong. Not Murphy's law but God's law. Even in snow skiing if those of us comfortable gliding down the easy street would just challenge themselves a bit you learn more and develop more skills.

Each and every day presents it's own set of challenges. God has not left you alone. He is there to lift you up and see you through all that comes your way.

PRAYER: I like times of ease and comfort but I know Lord they don't last and things will come my way to strengthen me. Help me realize this and stand strong under adversity. In Jesus name. Amen.

Put Down That Shovel!

Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, Philippians 3:13
Have you ever caught yourself going around the same mountain or digging the same hole? Translated, you mess up somehow usually with misspoken or misunderstood words and continue digging your 'hole' deeper to try to make up for the error of your ways. Now is the time to put down that 'shovel' and forget it.
What next after that 'shovel' is stowed away? First leave it put away. Drop it and move on! Easier said than done but not impossible to do. Take it from a master 'hole digger', God wants you to have peace but it is the enemy Satan who wants you to keep digging, keep agitating, and keep messing up relationships.
Stop now and decide you will stop doing the same old, same old and purpose in 2017 things will finally be different. If you messed up, forgive yourself, drop the matter, and don't repeat it. 2017 can be your best year!
PRAYER: Give me the strength to step away and stop doing the same dumb things over and over. I choose to shine for you and learn from my messes. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Poof, You're Noah Galloway!

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23
My journey in 2016 involved publishing my devotion book and then trying to sell it. As an  unknown author without name recognition or an agent, not too many people are showing up and beating down the door. No long lines such as at a Joyce Meyer or Sean Hannity signing or even my brother in arms, wounded warrior and Dancing With The Stars Finalist Noah Galloway, whose book 'Living With No Excuses' was recently published and he has gone on tour with his publishing company.

Whatever it is in life you do, do it for the Lord not man. Period. There may never be a parade, a best sellers list, a trophy, a street named after you, or people clamoring for your autograph when they see you in public places. I'm okay with that and for whatever you hope to accomplish you should be as well.

Your journey should never be about fame but about seed planting for the Lord. No matter if you sit for hours with not one person buying a book or even the slightest 'nibble' one friend said my smile could be a beacon for a Jesus. Are you being His beacon regardless? Shine on and don't lose hope. Stay home moms often despair over not being important. Oh my goodness, you are the most important person ever. Press on.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for just where you gave me in my journey of life. No matter what I do I will shine for you. Help me plant lots of seeds. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Lowlife....Them Or Me?

He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain.Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem. Isaiah 53:3

Recently in my travels I observed a man who started to sit by a lady and she covered the chair and shook her head in the 'no' gesture. This man looked so rejected and sad.

Sometimes those in life who society rejected are so scarred by their past. We who turn our heads are the real low life. People may look funny, not be dressed like 'normal' people, have body tattoos you may not approve of, or strange piercings but we are not to be looking at the outer man. Many people have inner wounds we can not see. Perhaps even a medical problem which is not seen by ordinary man. God wants us to be kind to everyone.

Each of us is only one fall, one stroke, or one car wreck away from not being who we are today. Be kind as you never know when you may need kindness returned to you.

PRAYER: Thanks for the opportunity to reach out beyond my own world to meets needs of others whether emotional or material. Use me to bring joy to another less fortunate. In  Jesus' name. Amen.

A Babe In A Manger...What Next ?

For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Christmas Day has arrived. Another day for overeating, family reunions, unappreciated gifts, high credit card bills but what about joy and the real meaning of this day. Have you captured that? Too often once the gifts are unwrapped we settle back into the ho hum humdrum of life. It does not have to be that way.

Reflect on all this day means. A baby born in a barn so to speak. He had to be hidden as a vicious king was out to kill him. He grew up to be the savior of the world. He was despised, rejected, a man of sorrows.

On this most Holy of days we reflect on His birth and what it means. The miracle of it all. Ponder in your heart the story of a baby in a manger and make sure you include it in your day. He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. He is more than a babe in a manger.

PRAYER: Christmas is a giant birthday party for you Lord but often turned into a party for ourselves. How that happens I don't know. I pray for families with children to be able to celebrate and reflect upon what this day really is about. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Meaning Of Christmas

Let each one not seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.  1 Corinthians 10:24 (KJV)

Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus who came to set us free from sin and death. But it is much more. It is not Santa Claus, bright lights,  mistletoe, Christmas movies, fattening food, parties, family gatherings and office parties. It is about love, sharing, and giving. But this feeling of Christmas and the actions thereof should not cease on 1 January but should continue throughout 2017.

Look around you and it is not hard to see someone less fortunate. At Christmas these down and out souls are brought to the forefront more than ever when in fact hurting people are not in need of a Christmas meal and box of toys for their children but need things around the clock just like you and I do. Many need a friend, a hug, a smile, a kind word.

My challenge to each of you reading this today is to find ways you can continue the Christmas spirit each and every day and not when the calendar indicates it is time to have Christmas cheer. Pray and ask God to open your eyes to the needs of those around you and lead you to where you might help.

PRAYER: Christmas is so nice to celebrate your birth Lord but I want Christmas to continue all throughout the year. Use me Lord to shine your light and share your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Detox

Wherefore putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. James 1:21

Recently I decided to make some dietary changes in hopes of alleviating severe tinnitus I have had for years but which recently worsened. To do this I detoxed my body in a round about way. Purging things from the diet which may contribute  to the roaring sound coming from the brain or ears or wherever it originates.

The subject of detoxification is interesting in the fact  you eliminate bad things or poisons so to speak which could make you sick or contribute to a condition you are having. I say why not detox your every day life for Jesus. Purge those things in your life you know are weighing you down emotionally and spiritually and keeping you from being all you could be for Jesus. Sometimes the changes take place gradually but doing them is what is ultimately important.

To live a spirit filled and controlled life does not mean you need to become a monk but to intentionally do things that draw you closer to Him and make you have His thoughts. Starting your day reading the word. Staying away from people or places you know drag you away from Him. Focus on the spirit so you don't fulfill the desires of the flesh so to speak. Are you ready to detox in 2017 and beyond?

PRAYER: Oh Lord how I love you and long to do things that please you. I mess up but there you are full of grace and mercy with open arms. I choose to be intentional about walking in the Spirit. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Satan Stinks

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.John 10:10
Ever had an experience where your day has been awesome and you are coming out of church or on way to church and the 'flesh' attacks and family members start bickering? I have. Let's say the message at church has been 'off the charts' and somehow a misunderstanding  occurs and an argument ensues. I hate it. Spiritual warfare in progress.

What can you do to nip this in the bud? First,  be the big one and stop the fight before it happens. Remember Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy and don't allow anger or grudges to get you all tensed up and lose your joy. Next as the song in Frozen says "Let It Go" and march on.

Be willing to forgive, forget, be joyful and press ahead. You will feel better I guarantee it.

PRAYER: Love is patient and  kind. Love forgives and forgets. Love moves forward and seeks harmony. I choose love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Don't Let Your Guard Down

And He spoke a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray and not to faint. Luke 18:1

Our area was under a tornado watch recently and one of the weather people on TV said to "not let your guard down' or in other words stay abreast of what is going on and do not become complacent when it seems you are 'out of the woods'. The same could be said of prayer and not taking revival for granted.

When for instance you have prayed for this nation and see things changing don't slip into a stupor and forget to still pray daily. Cry out to God for revival and keep at it. When you are praying for a change in any situation and it seems your prayers aren't being heard don't stop.

Whatever it is you are praying for keep on keeping on. God is working.

PRAYER: Your mercies are new every morning and for that I say thanks. Forgive me when I forget to pray for our country and its' leadership whether I agree with them or not. Thanks that your plan is greater than ours. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Ouch, My Heart Hurts!

Don’t be quick to fly off the handle.Anger boomerangs. You can spot a fool by the lumps on his head. Ecclesiastes 7:9(The Message)

Everyone probably deals with hurts, disappointments, failures, and rejection but the Christmas season can accentuate the pain and heartache. "Pity parties unite tonight" I say. Feeling sorry for yourself can be normal but has to be nipped in the bud someway somehow as even if it is seemingly justified it can lead to a host of other issues.

A friend mentioned to me that feeling the pain of being let down, left out, overlooked, tossed aside is exactly probably the pain Jesus feels when we reject him or just give Him 'token' love sort of like being in a club and occasionally showing up for a meeting but turning your back on Him the rest of the time. Many people really hurt this time of year and saying "there is no place like home for the holidays" means nothing to them.

Are you dealing with heartache of some sort today my friend? Don't turn your back on God. Talk to Him. Tell Him exactly how you feel. He can give you the strength to face, conquer, and get through any situation. Only trust Him.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus you are my most trusted friend and confidant. When my friends, family or strangers reject me you are there with arms open wide and you care and understand. I want to be immersed in your overflowing flow so I don't have time to be angry at others or feel sorry for myself. In Jesus' name. Amen.

And That's Okay!

Now  there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 1 Timothy 6:6-8

Do you catch yourself trying to be like others in many ways? Maybe you say you have left those high school 'every be alike days' behind but in fact, you still deep down, feel like you have to be a certain way or fit a certain mold. Maybe you worry about your house, your talents, your skills.

This feeling could crop up in the way you study the Bible. I know sometimes I have a hard time sticking with a certain method and feel undisciplined, but in fact, maybe people study in different ways because the Holy Spirit is directing your steps in a different way. Perhaps you get concerned that your life is not like someone else's. God has each of us on a unique journey and it is only the enemy that attempts to make you feel inadequate.

So right now today make up your mind to give thanks to God for how you are, where you are, what you are able to do and stop being concerned you have to be like every other person or feeling not good enough. Rejoice you are a wonderful creation of God. He does not make mistakes.

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I have allowed the enemy to make me discontent or make me wish I was someone else or could do certain things. Help me embrace just who I am and where I am in life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Hanging Out With Jesus

But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. Hebrews 3:13

Isn't it great to have friends? Or family that loves to be with you? I have news for you. Jesus wants to be included in that circle of friends you hang out with. He is not pushy, overbearing, guilting, nagging, or over persistent but is there waiting for you to want to be with Him.

Often times we give our heart to Jesus but then neglect our time alone with Him. How do you ever expect to get to intimately know anyone unless you are deliberate about spending time with that person?  Same goes for Jesus.

Try this. Each day wake up and say "Hi Jesus! This is ________." Then sit down and grab your Bible and perhaps a notebook or journal and and write the thoughts you have as you study His word. Don't let Satan distract you and get you busy with so many other things that you don't hang out with your Savior. He is waiting. Are you ready?

PRAYER: Father I thank you that your love for me is so deep and it is hard to fathom. At times I have neglected you totally and gone my own way yet you are there waiting for me.  Today and every day I choose you. In Your name I pray, Amen.

What Is Dragging You Down?

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. Isaiah 53:7

Sometimes we have to blow things off or let them go especially when it comes to sensitive feelings. Most people have probably been verbally hurt by someone. It is hard to not be mad and fight back.
Think about Jesus. Now he was really the victim of verbal and physical abuse to the max yet he remained silent. Insults, accusations, hatred all came his way.

During this most Holy Christmas season why not pause from all your running around, anxiety, and yes maybe even fear and think about the Christ child. A babe in a manger or in better terms, a barn. A little baby who was The King of kings and would come to earth to set us free. Remember he is only a prayer away.

PRAYER: Dear Lord I am very thankful for this time of year to pause and remember your birth. It brings me great joy. Help me Lord to not allow the glitter and all the rest to crowd out the true meaning. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Wading Through The Piles Of Life

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

Those of us blessed to be in America may have so many things that we really do not need. We get our 'stuff' and on top of that the mail, the books, the email, and on and on it goes and it seems we are wading in a sea of pile or being piled upon.

Perhaps you can identify with my statement in some way. You either are under a mountain of stuff that needs to be organized or gotten rid of. The mail pile on your counter has gotten out of hand. The refrigerator contains 'biology experiments' as I like to affectionately call them, that need thrown into the garbage and then there is email, electronic trash. If you allow it to these things can really grate on you. A clutter free life is a more peaceful hectic life in my humble opinion, not saying I have 'arrived' yet but working on it.

Maybe you have emotional clutter too that you need to go to the Lord about before it overwhelms you as well. This time of year can accentuate problems and issues. Try to keep things simple and not try to live up to everyone else's expectations and you indeed will feel better. Make it a daily point to get alone with the person whose birthday we are celebrating this month. You know, Jesus.

PRAYER: Today I choose to wake up and get myself going. I choose to seek a peaceful life and not one filled with the clutter of life that is often unnecessary. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Angry Americans

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.  Ephesians 4:31-32

Since the election I have had a couple folks asked to be removed from my devotion list because I in fact spoke the truth in love but apparently they did to want to hear it. Politics is an area many people dare not trod. Especially this Presidential election season which was fought with criticism, rumors, hatred, screaming, riots, and continued division as has gone on for 8 years now. Our new President elect won fair and square yet many on the left of the political spectrum aren't satisfied.  Everyone on both sides of the aisle needs to be praying for him not causing senseless riots.

Now is the time to truly unite and get America back on the right track which is going back to our Christian roots but many false teachers have crept in just as scripture warned us and many have been deceived. Some of these even within the church and perhaps your own families. America was not going to survive if it kept spending money it did not have. The military was depleted. It is the church, not the government, that is supposed to care for those in need. And to purposely allow those from countries whose Holy book says to "kill the Infidel" into settlements in our country is not a wise move.

Now is the time to stop the rumors and hatred and pray for those in this country who seek to cause disruption and turmoil. Another thing is to keep the nightly news off as they are only one sided and you will not gain much peace from watching. Truly love those who disagree with you. Pray for the organizations and people who are stirring up dissent. Remember above all love one another. Period.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus you are in charge of this country and the whole world. I love you Lord. I love those who choose to hate me, unfriend me, and disagree with me. Help all people be able to get into the word of God instead of the morning newspaper nad be transformed by reading it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Focusing On Above

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3
Recently at a weight watchers meeting we were discussing things that bring stress and obviously the Christmas season was high up there on the list. Why oh why do people allow this time of year that is supposed to be sacred and Holy be filled with stress and anxiety? The election season was also high up there on the list as well.
I have good news for you. It does not have to be that way. You can cut things out of your life or make adjustments to make things simple for you and make Jesus smile in the meantime. For Christmas step back and maybe ask yourself if all you are doing is really necessary. Stop and go out for coffee or bundle up and go for a walk. As for politics, pray and turn off the TV.
The primary thing is to stay focused on God and Jesus, the reason for this season in the first place. Do this by making it a point daily to not allow ANYTHING to squeeze out your time in the Bible. Don't know where to start?Try Psalms,Proverbs,or the book of John.  Leave the TV off, put the newspaper down, and just sit at Jesus' feet.
PRAYER: I know I have a free will and can decide my own activities and forgive me when those do not include spending time in your presence daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.

It's Just A White Lie...Say What?

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers. Proverbs 6:16-19

There are many references to lying and liars in the Bible. Probably all of us have told a lie at one time or another in our life. Problem is when you lie you have to tell another lie to cover up for the first one. Then there is reference to telling a 'white lie' which somehow makes it better. A lie is a lie is a lie. Those of us who are of the Christian faith know how important it is to be truthful.  It is a commandment as a matter of fact.

Many take an oath on the Bible and are to sworn to tell the truth, the whole truth so help them God. That is good for those who believe in God but not so much for those who don't really care or whose religion, such as Islam, says it is okay to lie to some people's. For we who name the name of Jesus, it is important to value the virtue of truthfulness and don't get in the habit of stretching the truth(lying),misspeaking(lying) or telling white lies(lying).
If you have told a lie or been careless with your words, confess it now to God. He can forgive you. If you have a problem in this area ask God to help set you free from the stronghold of a lying tongue. Make it your practice to tell the truth at all costs.

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord when I have caught myself saying an untruth. Help me to learn to be honest and open and speak the truth in love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

It's That Time Again

For unto us a Child is born,Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Every year about this time it is hard for me to believe Christmas is upon us. Where did the year go? In the rush that the world seems to give this season, it is not necessary to fall into the secular trap of being stressed out.

This year why not choose to do things differently? Don't make this a season of obligations and stress but of joy and remembering why we have Christmas to begin with. It is celebrating the birth of our savior Jesus Christ. The world was forever changed.

Try to do more for others. Angel tree, Operation Christmas Child, adopt a family, and many other avenues of giving to others exist. The familiar Salvation Army bell ringers and red kettle appear after Thanksgiving so try to be generous. If you have children or grandchildren use this opportunity to not spoil them with material possessions but to talk about a babe in a manger. Don't dread this special time of year but embrace it as a time to celebrate the birth of the king of Kings and Lord of Lords.

PRAYER: O Holy Night a star was brightly shining. Oh Jesus I am forever grateful for your birth and how you set us free from sin and death. I praise your name not just in December but year round. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mad At God? Why?

For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways declares the Lord. Isaiah 55:8

Many people get angry at God and even refuse to go to church anymore because of something they think God did or didn't do. Maybe you have been one of these individuals. Prayer goes out for a loved one but they die. You get mad at God. Numerous times you have prayed for healing but to no avail. So you give up. Man you have just made Satan one happy camper. I always wonder why folks don't get mad at the devil and not God.

Why does a baby die? Why do mothers miscarry? Why is a teenager with a promising future killed? Why do people not yet in their prime get cancer? Why does an entire plane load of passengers die yet one person onboard survives? Why did some people get out of the World Trade Center yet others perished or leaped to their death? I don't know. All I do know is God can comfort if you let Him.

Your time on Earth is so short and no one knows when they will die or how. I just had a 63 year old friend die of brain cancer. People prayed for her healing but it didn't work. But sometimes it does. All I know is that God's ways are not our ways and He can work things out for the good. Whatever you are going through don't run from God but embrace Him and let Him hear from you. That is pray. You will feel better.

PRAYER: I know you can give peace to my heart. If I have ever been angry forgive me. Loss hurts, but your plan has a future and a hope and part of it is heaven. Help me comfort those who are hurting. In Jesus' name. Amen.

What Has Got You Down?

Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22

Many situations in life can cause you to just shake your head and wish Jesus would come back now. Why, you say, must you go through so much pain, heartache, and turmoil?  Where is God? When will things ever change? "What did I do to cause this?" you might ask.

I have felt that way and continue to feel that way about certain things but I hold on to the hope that God is working and has a distinct plan. Satan is our enemy and it is he who tries to get you to give up and throw in the towel. It is he who causes bad attitudes, fear, despair, hopelessness, discouragement,  and lack of love.

Get up each day and say a big thank you for the day the Lord gave you. You can make a difference in many lives around you. Whatever it is that is pressing in and overwhelming you continue to give your burdens to the Lord. Stand strong and don't lose hope.

PRAYER: Oh Lord sometimes I just don't know how to pray. I am overwhelmed and fearful. I know you have my back so to speak and I refuse to allow Satan to destroy my peace and joy. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Let Anger Go

For the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. JAMES 1:20

After the recent historic US Presidential election there has been so much anger by those whose candidate didn't win. Oh Lord bring peace to this wonderful land we call America. Sore losers tend to stir up strife. Like a child who doesn't get his or her way, they throw a tantrum and that is what we are witnessing now in many cities across America.

Anger solves nothing except hurting people and sometimes worse. Some of you reading may have friends and family who fit this post  election anger scenario, or maybe it is even you! All you can do is lift them up in prayer and pray for them to see a brighter tomorrow and not be led astray by the enemy.

Each of you reading this need to keep praying and lifting America up, its' new leaders, and try to not believe everything you hear on the news. The media are masters of stirring up dissent. Focus more on the word of God instead of the word of the TV.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus continue to stir revival throughout America. Help those being deceived turn and see good. Help those who disagree not fight. May you restore peace in the hearts of mankind. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Tap, Tap, Tap

For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted. Matthew 23:12

I often wonder about famous devotion writers such as Sarah Young the creator of the 'Jesus Calling' series about where she goes to be creative as she tap, tap, taps on her computer or notebook keyboard to write words God gave her to write. Does she get writer's block or ever feel like her stuff is not worth releasing. Anyone creative may get to feeling that way.

Everyone is gifted in some way and should never compare themselves with others or desire fame or riches. Don't ever feel you have nothing to contribute to your world around you cause you do! Don't set out with the desire to be famous or you may fail. Bloom for Jesus wherever and whatever He has you doing.

Each day is a gift from God. When your feet touch the ground in the morning you should say to God, "use me in someone's life today" and then look for opportunities to share Christ love with those you encounter.  Your life is not your own.

PRAYER: I am grateful for who you made me to be and where you have me in life Lord. Help me never be lazy but work hard as a good soldier of yours. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Kingdom Minded?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6
This time of year it seems relatively easy to get focused on God and Jesus with it being the Christmas season and all. What about the other 11 months of the year? Do you stay 'kingdom minded' then? Something to think about.
Often this time of year it becomes easy to get caught up in the merriment of it all and forget what it is really about. Snowmen? No. Candy canes? No. Toys? No. Gingerbread men? No. Baking? No. Parties? No. Lights? No.
In John 4:35 it says "Don’t you have a saying, ‘It’s still four months until harvest’? I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." This verse reminds us about why we are here, and it is to win people into the kingdom of heaven, not the kingdom of Santa Claus. Go out this month and try to keep that in mind in all the celebrating. And try to be at peace, Jesus would want you to.
PRAYER: I thank you for the special time of year set aside to celebrate your birth. Help me never get caught up in all the other things more than the real reason for the season. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be Very Careful

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16

Do you ever stop to think about how you live each day? What you do, where you go, who you interact with? There is a saying "you may be the only Bible some people ever 'read'" and how very correct that statement is.

No one knows the day or hour when Jesus will return and we are put on this Earth to serve Him not just exist and serve yourself. It is easy to fall in the trap of 'me first'  but that is not what we are to do.

The world around us has a different worldview than a believer and we may seem like odd balls to the natural man who thinks his world is all there is. Don't act holier than thou but make it a point daily to smile at people, be kind, not gossip, and show love. You will feel better and so will those you touch.

PRAYER: I know that someday this life is going to be over. I don't ever want to regret that I have not gone the extra mile to bring joy to someone in this evil world. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Have You Relinguished Dominion?

Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground." Genesis
 1:26

I was listening to Pastor John Gray on TBN recently talking about God creating man in His image to have dominion over all the rest of creation. Satan has messed with that plan and our minds to make us try to act like we know more than God.

According to the Bing online dictionary dominion means sovereignty or control. God wanted us to have authority and follow Him. Many listened and believed the lies of Satan and thus God's plan got messed up.

Our kingdom, as believers,  is not of this world, although the enemy plays tricks with us and attempts to make you feel maybe Earth is where it is at so to speak. Follow hard after Jesus. Get into His word the Bible and understand it. Have love for your fellow man whether you agree with he or she or not. And know if you name the name of Jesus you have authority in His name. Never forget.

PRAYER: I am indeed grateful to be a child of God and thank you for those who shared the plan of salvation with me. I pray for those I may know or cross paths with that I may shine Your light on them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Angels At My Table

Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unaware.Hebrews 13:2

My husband and I were at a state park for Thanksgiving meal with lots of others. After about a 45 minute wait our name was called. The seating hostess asked if we minded letting a local man by himself sit with us. She said "you don't have to" but we said "yes".

This turned into a huge blessing not only for us but I am sure for him as well. We could have said "no we want to be alone" but God, I feel, ordained this meet up. Sometimes you miss a huge blessing when you avoid helping others. As this verse for today indicates you never know when the person could be an angel in disguise.

Every believer is called to love others. Love takes action other than just words. Love sometimes is sacrifice of your own comforts and your own desires. It is easy during Christmas season to 'be nice' but how about doing this the other 11 months.

PRAYER: I pray for divine connections Lord and opportunities to share the love of Christ with those you have placed in my path. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Prisoners Of War

For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. 2 Corinthians 10:4

A dear friend of mine referred to people who are caught up in being deceived by the enemy as 'prisoners of war'. Perhaps there are some of these 'prisoners' close to you, a child, a spouse, another family member or close friend. Regardless of who, Satan takes 'captive' those whose mind are set on the flesh.

Prisoners of war in a physical battle are kept in camps or secure areas and are subject to harassment by their enemy. Sometimes, such as during the Vietnam War, psychological warfare is used and the captives are told lies about their family or things back home to mess with their minds. This is exactly what Satan does to our loved ones held captive in his little camp of terrors. He wants those of us praying to give up hope and be convinced there is no way out. Yet we believers do not believe his lies or deception.

If you are praying daily for your prisoner of war keep on keeping on and trust that God has a way to set them free and make them spiritually whole once again.

PRAYER: I command Satan in your mighty name to release _________________ and to not let them be deceived by the enemy anymore. _______________is a child of God and the truth will set them free. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Data Recovery

You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle.  You have recorded each one in your book. Psalm 56:8

I was recently working on a letter on my Ipad and went to save it when poof, it disappears into cyberspace or 'the cloud'. I tried to not panic and did eventually find it. The Apple Store would have been proud. It is so frustrating to lose data or something you have worked so hard on only to have it just be gone.
This got me to thinking of how we never lose 'data' with the Almighty. He knows it all and records it all. You have prayed for something maybe for years, and He heard you but maybe it is not yet the time for His answer. He has your prayer. He has your back.
Brother and sister do not get down in the dumps. Keep looking up and knowing that God is working things out. Don't lose hope. Don't listen to nay sayers. Keep believing and pray on.
PRAYER: Lord you are good and you know me and hear my prayers. I love it that you never forget one thing. You are the Almighty and I trust in you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Famine Ahead!

“Behold, the days are coming,’ declares the Lord God, ‘When I will send a famine on the land—not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord. They shall wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they shall turn to and fro, to seek the word of the Lord, but they shall not find it.’” Amos 8:11-12

Can you imagine if here in these United States originally founded using the Bible as the guide to even write laws, that there will come a time when the best selling book of all time, the Bible, could not be found anywhere, I mean anywhere? Many scoff at this notion saying, "Becky that is not possible" but I say to turn off the secular news and tune in to things happening with Christians worldwide you never hear about on the three major networks. Christian persecution is happening. Even on some university campuses Christian Bible studies are not welcome.

There in fact may come a time according to this verse for today, when you will be starving for the word of God. Now for people who don't even read it  that will not be a loss, but to you who do love studying God's word you need to be hiding  it in your heart so you will have it to rely on in troubled times ahead. Imagine really starving for food which most reading this never have done. Hunger yes, starvation no. Literally starving I mean. Imagine no Bibles anywhere.

Store up God's word in your heart. Treasure it as if it were gold. Many nations do not allow the Bible now. Several years ago my husband travelled to the Middle East and hid his Bible in his suitcase. Don't take God's word for granted. Read it daily.

PRAYER: I am so grateful to have a Bible, and many people have several. Help me to treasure it above all else and use it daily. In Jesus' name. Amen.
