Trick Or Tricked?


Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies. Psalm 141:4

Each year I ponder how to deal with Halloween. It is for sure not an edifying holiday yet many Christians see no harm in it as they send their little ones dressed like Satan or another character out the door to get candy. My birthday happens to fall on this holiday. I just have a real hard time and choose to not celebrate. So many think it is harmless and I am some sort of religious fanatic weirdo. Guilty as charged.

Recently I saw a sign posted where a church, yes a church, was having a haunted house. Not an alternative Celebration but apparently an actual haunted house. It made me take a step back. Why on Earth would any church claiming to be Christian do this? Perhaps they do not preach spiritual warfare and do not see the harm in this.

All I know is I ask myself why is it necessary? If you see the movies coming out this time of year too, likewise they borderline on darkness as well. In my opinion a Christian should flee the darkness and run to the light. Each person has to be convicted in his or her own heart and I guess ask "What would Jesus do?"

PRAYER: Lord Jesus help the things I say and do and the  activities I participate in bring glory to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Politics and Halloween


Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their dainties. Psalm 141:4

These two things come to the forefront the same time every year. I am finding they are both polarizing issues and if you expect to keep good friends you better keep your opinions to yourself and try to not force others to change. Only the Holy Spirit brings change. I write about both because I am passionate about both. I am only sharing where God has me.

 We are days away from a Presidential election which is a make or break one for freedom as we know it. Each person needs to turn off the news and get on their knees and pray and think for themselves. Use the Bible as your guide. Don't change the truth to fit a political belief. And as for Halloween, I have close friends who agree to disagree with me, but I personally am not into giving any attention to what borderlines on demonic. Sure a person doesn't go out to trick or treat searching for a demon under every rock but why do we need to glorify this secular holiday? Just asking?

So my friend, pray, love Jesus, seek Him first, and ask God to guide you in the direction of truth and wisdom.

 PRAYER: I love you Lord and I never want to be holier than thou or act self righteous. Guide me Lord to do what is right in this election and on Halloween. Help me recognize the forces of evil and darkness and be bold against them. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Be Bold..Yes You!


“According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death.”
Philippians 1:20
I was in a secular type group meeting recently where I had the opportunity to share how a person could not be angry and yet I sat there silent. Shame on me! The person leading the conversation kept asking people in the group what can you suggest if you get this way. I wanted to say "Start the day with Jesus and the Bible and oh yeah you could read God's Lemonade Stand too" but instead there I sat too afraid or outnumbered to speak up. Have you ever been in a situation like this? You want to give the answer which related to Jesus giving you peace but instead you clam up. It is great when you are in a Holy huddle and no one opposes you but at a meeting not related to church it can be scary. Why? 
Next time I am not going to allow that to happen. If I have a godly solution to the problem I plan to step up to the plate and share. Fear is from the enemy and most certainly Satan does not want you giving a Christ centered solution to a problem. Don't let fear of what others may think stand in your way. The minute I froze up I said to myself "What kind of Lemonade Stand lady are you if you can't share hope with people who may not hear it anywhere else."
If you find yourself in a similar predicament look at it as a golden opportunity God has given you to shine for the Kingdom. It is like the Christian college student who is outnumbered in his class by a class full of students who may jeer at them. Speak the truth in love then pray. 
PRAYER: Forgive me Lord for opportunities I have had to share hope with others but failed to do so. Give me a Holy boldness to be a light for you when I may be outnumbered. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Occult In America



"I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves." Matthew 10:16

This time of year in America many people go nuts decorating their homes with witches, fake cobwebs, tombstones, ghosts and so on. I personally opt for the harvest theme if I decorated at all.  "Oh come on now Becky Halloween is just a silly fun holiday. There is nothing wrong with dressing up." Granted dressing up can be fun but why not have have a costume party another time if you really have to.

Anything to do with occultism in my opinion should not be tolerated by a Christian this includes yes Harry Potter, Quija Board, Dungeons and Dragons, reading a horoscope, even the Twilight movies are pushing the edge,  yet how many,  even in the Christian community see nothing wrong and consider it fun?Not judging, just stating a fact. Each person has to reach their own conclusion. I wasn't always this way yet after accepting Christ in 1975 became very convicted by the Holy Spirit on many things.

In 2 Corinthians 11:14 it says "And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light." You have to choose what you will do and be accountable for your own actions. I am just giving you something to think about. Also in Deuteronomy 18:10 it says "There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer." Satan can use subtle ways to trip believers up. Beware that you don't fall into his trap.

PRAYER: I want to let my light shine but to do this I know I have to be careful to not live in two different worlds where some things are okay cause 'the world' says so and be sucked into the worlds' system more than yours. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Thank God For The Calvin's In Our Path



"For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38

At a recent routine doctor visit, the intake nurse named Calvin, was just what the doctor ordered for me for that particular day. He was not ashamed of his faith in God and we carried on a great short conversation about loving Jesus. I needed this that particular day as I had almost been rear ended by a semi tractor trailer whose driver was not paying attention and this shook me just a bit. Anyway all of us who name the name of Jesus' need to not be ashamed and be a 'Calvin' to a stranger.

I would suggest to get a small Gideon's purse or pocket size Bible and carry it with you each day. When your are in a waiting room or someplace else where you could waste time on the internet, instead get your Bible out and start reading. Don't worry that people might stare. They might need to see your so they have courage to do the same. It might even start a conversation. 


Each day you are one step closer to the time of your death. That is not a morbid or scary thing but should be an opportunity to boldly share your faith with others. 


PRAYER:Forgive me if I have ever acted ashamed of you. Give me Holy boldness to be your witness wherever you place me whether in a grocery store line, the gym,doctor's office,  coffee shop, or even in church. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Shine On Regardless



You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

So I drove two hours to a speciality clinic for a doctor appointment( fear not nothing is wrong). When I arrived even though I had marked two calendars plainly with the time and date I  was told I did not have an appointment. I could choose to be like the world and rant, rave and be demanding or I could stay at peace and go with the flow. Things often happen for a reason. I chose peace and joy.

When the unexpected happens to you is the tendency to pop a cork or do you choose to remain calm? God operates in calmness and Satan lurks around like a roaring lion seeking to get you steamed up and act less than Christlike. You feel better when you can just flow with the punches so to speak. 

Whatever test or unexpected happening is on your horizon be prepared to react like Jesus would and let His love flow out of you. As the saying goes "You may be the only Bible someone may ever 'read'."

PRAYER: I choose this day to turn to you when I would rather scream. I choose to love instead of hate. I choose to pray when I would rather scream. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Winking At Sin


"Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness." 1 John 3:4
I often wonder just how many people, even those supposedly claiming to be 'Christian' just sort of wink at sin. Perhaps for those who are on fire for the Lord are perceived as 'Jesus freaks' or a little bit over the edge I say, "So how is a person that loves God supposed to act?" It is easy to slip into sin. The US Government has made certain forms of sin 'legal' and accepted but let me say that does not mean they are accepted in the eyes of God. Today it is almost if Christians are being bound and gagged from saying what is right and wrong. We are called hateful, intolerant, bigots. All the modern ways don't mean God is okay with it. Satan is working hard to deceive and lead astray many. Don't be fooled. There is good and there is evil and there is right and wrong. The Bible has not chained it's standards for 2016. 
Maybe you are reading this and you are dabbling in something you know does not please God or something that could further lead you closer to Satan and not to the kingdom of heaven. Search your heart, get into the word, get on your knees. If you need to repent please do so. 
God can heal, set free, and redeem. He does forgive. If you are in the wrong crowd of people leading you into a lifestyle you know is not right then find new people to hang out with. Seek the help of a spirit filled Christian counselor if you need to. Don't keep allowing Satan to get a foothold. 
PRAYER: I know I am in a battle of good versus evil and I know Satan is a liar and tries to get me off the path you planned for me. I choose to reject evil and stand for the truth. I pray for those friends and families who are being captivated by Satan to be set free. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Roots Deep In Christ


Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:7

I had been gone about 6 days and totally forgot to ask my husband to water my beautiful flowering outdoor plant. When I returned it was a dead mess of dried out twigs. I remember once before when this occurred  I prayed over it, drowned it in water, and gave it plant food and lo and behold it eventually sprang back to flowering beauty. Deep down in that plant there was still a bit of life in those roots. That is what I am hoping for this time as I nurse this one back to vibrancy.

 Does your spiritual life sound like my dried up seemingly dead plant? Do you take the time to 'water' and nourish it daily so it grows and blooms or do you forget about it till it is on life support and have to go to drastic measures to make it vibrant again? It is so easy to do every thing else but read and study God's word daily. The morning show beckons, the newspaper, and on it goes. Why is it so hard to make time for God? 

Each day consider yourself a flower. If you don't feed and water your flower then eventually it is lifeless. Make getting up and thanking God for each day a real priority. Maybe you live with a spouse or roommate who is Christian but not hungry for the Lord. Don't nag but just pray for them.The Holy Spirit will work so let Him. Now get out there and bloom for Jesus!

PRAYER: Each day is a gift from you. I know to grow closer and stay strong and spiritually healthy I need a dose of your word, the Bible daily. I choose to prioritize this and not let other mundane things squeeze you out. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Death Happens To Us All



The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Isaiah 57:1

You can't drive anywhere without eventually coming across a cemetery. This is the final resting place for all of our bodies after our time on earth is up. Everyone is going to die. It is nothing to fear. For those who know Christ it is a Home-going Celebration.
 How many of you have either lost a loved one way earlier than expected be it a baby, a teen, a young adult, a spouse in their 50's or 60's? It could be cancer, still born, miscarriage, vehicle accident, heart attack, or an unexpected stroke. Stuff happens. No one is ever ready to find out their loved one has passed away. It is sad. We want to live forever but that was not God's plan. We are born, we die. And there is a heaven and a hell.

Be ready. Know God has a plan. Your life is no accident. The people you impact are no accident. Try to live your days as a shining beacon of light and share God's love with those you encounter. Keep looking up!
PRAYER:Father God I know I have value and purpose. I need not fear death for Heaven awaits me for eternity. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Turn On The Light


"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden." Matthew 5:14

What happens when you wake up in the middle of the night and walk in the dark? Likely you may stumble into a table or walk into a wall. Light is needed to dispel the darkness. Once a light is illuminated darkness can not stay. 

Believers are the 'light of the world' and are supposed to shine the brightness of the Lord wherever they are. Starbucks, grocery, drug store, the gym, your living room, on the phone with telemarketers(ouch), in a doctor's waiting room, jail cell, and a myriad of places you might find yourself. You shining this 'light' through your speech, kindness, and love for others will show if you are sincere. 

Try going out daily and making a point to imagine yourself a beacon or flashlight where God's love is lighting the path around you. Now go shine on!


PRAYER: I love each and every day you give me and help me not waste any chance to illuminate the darkness in this world. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Whoosh...Time Flies!



The measure of our life is seventy years; and if through strength it may be eighty years, its pride is only trouble and sorrow, for it comes to an end and we are quickly gone.Psalm 90:10

As a sat in the concourse at the Dallas Airport recently watching passengers deplane at my gate, all ages were coming off. Young, semi young, semi old, older. I had just taken a selfie earlier and gagged at my old looking appearance then hey, I realized the clock is ticking for each of us. Part of life is growing older. Everyone has a purpose and value. Never beat yourself up because of the aging process. 

Why is it so many can't accept getting older? One day we are teenagers then the next thing you know you are at your 45th high school reunion. Where did the time go? My great niece recently turned sweet 16 and I remember her being a toddler. One thing not to do if you happen to be in the over 50 category is think that you can't get a job because of your age. Sure society tends to put millennials in a special category where they seem preferred and all others washed up, but don't get negative on yourself and believe media lies. 

Today no matter what your age God can use you. Everyone is here for a reason. Try something new. Take a class. Start exercising if you never have. Get out and make a difference around your corner God has you in. And cheer up. Age is just a number. 

PRAYER: I thank you for each day you give me. Many have lost babies, children, precious family members and often have deep sadness. Be with those people grieving but help each of us know we have a purpose. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Is Your Salt Shaker Empty?


"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot." Matthew 5:13

Salt is a seasoning for food that helps to enhance the flavors of a food. If you have ever been cooking and run out of salt often the recipe you are preparing just does not taste the same.

Christians are called the 'salt of the Earth'. We are to be like a gigantic salt shaker seasoning the world around us for the kingdom of God. If our shaker is empty or its' contents old and flavorless, we have a hard time sharing joy, hope, peace, and love. 

Does your salt shaker need to be refilled or have you misplaced it somewhere and need to get it out and start spreading the love of God around today? 

PRAYER: I want to continue to flavor the Earth with your love Lord. I know it is necessary for me to keep myself fed a daily diet of your word in order to keep my 'shaker' full and ready to use. In Jesus' name. Amen.

There Goes That Mouth Again


But no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:8

Gossip, telling secrets, hurting someone with verbal abuse, misunderstandings, the tongue and the mouth are right up there at the top for causing problems particularly when the person speaking does not think before saying something or emailing something. How many of you have been guilty of misspoken words that have hurt someone? I have I am ashamed to say. Sometimes it is hard to recover from that and takes time to earn trust again. 

As this verse in James Chapter 3 says the tongue can not be tamed. That does not excuse you from not having self control with your mouth. Sometimes misspoken words are a total misunderstanding and can embarrass or hurt someone. Maybe that was not your intent but it can happen. If you have a problem with talking too much before you think, step back and maybe do a study on the mouth and your words. Words have power. They do in fact set a forest ablaze as it also says in this same chapter of James. 

If you have been hurt be ready to forgive and forget. If you have hurt someone else learn from it and ask God to help you control your impulses and to think before you speak. The friends and family you save may be your own. 

PRAYER: Lord Jesus I want control over my mouth. The mouth can do good or do bad. It is my choice and help me use the brain you gave me to think before I speak. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Is Jesus' Really First?

But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. Luke 12:31
That is a good question, I mean the above question in my title. Being a Christian doesn't happen because of family you were born into or because of joining a church. It is way more than that. When He, Jesus, is really first you will desire to know Him better. That means doing more than one hour Sunday.

When we know Him we need to then in turn trust Him for things in our life. Have you ever known of people who are so discouraged they wish they were already on way to Heaven, ASAP? Life does have struggles yet when we sit back and really do spiritual warfare with the enemy, things will get better. You mind should even stay on things above regardless of how you feel. Tall order, right?

Think of it like this. You and I know that Satan is the one trying his best to kill, steal, destroy, confuse, deceive, and manipulate. So when stressful times come, don't blame Him, but run to Him.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for my life.  Your plan for me is perfect and beyond understanding. Thanks for keeping me on it. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Words. They Matter!



Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:6

These past few weeks with political debates many people have become so angry and fearful over the two choices for President of the United States. The media has been pulling for one side only and thus angers many. I have heard of Christians just going ballistic on Facebook pages calling the GOP candidate horrible names now as well as the Democrat candidate.  Are we really justified in being so ugly? The answer of course is no.

The enemy is having a hey day with the actions of many. Never mind the candidates themselves who are responsible for words on the part of one, and lies and corruption on the part of the other. The issue is we as believers need to stop judging, mind our own business, and pray. Stop spewing hate ourselves.

Only a few days are left until one of the most important elections of our lifetime. One of the biggest issues is the three Supreme Court justices that will be put into play by whoever is elected. Voters seem too angry to remember that factor. I urge all of you reading this to take time each day to pray. If you are beside yourself with anger turn on some Christian praise music to soothe your soul. By all means don't sit home on Election Day.

 PRAYER: Dear Lord I am thankful for being born in a democracy. Many in other nations probably laugh at us. Help my brothers and sisters in Christ trust that you have a plan and help all of us know that once words are spoken they can't be taken back. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Mind Altering



Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2

There are things that can make a person's mind be altered in ways not from God. Examples would be alcohol and drugs. You hear of people who can't relax or want to have fun so they drink. Maybe there are those with problems they feel a magic drug or alcohol will help cure. Deaths have occurred from mixing drugs and alcohol. 

The best and most preferred way to 'alter your mind' is not with substances mentioned above but from reading God's word. The Bible helps transform your thoughts and help you acquire peace and joy instead of fear and unhappiness. It is also your guidebook through life to keep you on the right path. 

When you feel upset, fearful, angry, bitter, forgotten, abused, unloved pick up the Bible, for in it you will find rest for your weary soul. Give it a try. 

PRAYER: Lord I know that only through you are problems solved not by drinking or taking drugs. I pray for those caught in that trap, often one of fear and unhappiness. I need you every hour. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Having A Second Chance


For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--Ephesians 2:8

Have you ever done something really stupid and God gave you a second chance? Vehicle accident, smoking, getting drunk, got in a lawsuit, did drugs, pornography  or saying something you regret. Whatever it is, only Satan condemns. You messed up. He knows. You prayed so don't beat yourself up. God forgives so forgive yourself.

Today start the day by reading God's word. Focus on friends who may have huge prayer needs. Love people. Forgive people. Be thankful. Enjoy life. Love you spouse if married. Write a real letter to someone to make their day. You never know what someone is going through.

Whatever you do don't forget to tell those people special in your life you love them as you may never get another chance. And read God's word and keep smiling. Run from evil, pick right friends, and do good.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for wonderful people in my life and for saving me from things I did in past that were stupid. My hope always is in you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Impossible?


Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." Matthew 19:26
God can do anything. Yes He can. He does things for His purposes, His glory, and in His time. HIs plans are greater than our plans. 

Many of you reading this may face a seemingly impossible situation and get impatient and angry with God. How is your prayer life and Bible time? Don't shut Him out. I myself have waited for an answer to prayer and still wait but I know my ways and plans are not God's. When you start to doubt you allow the devil to get a foothold and make you angry, worried or fearful. 

I urge you to keep the faith. Keep believing. Keep praying. Surround yourself with positive people and other prayer warriors to see you through your journey of waiting. God hears you. 

PRAYER: Thanks for another day of life. I thank you for struggles because they help make me stronger. I choose patience and faith while I wait for what man says is impossible. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Communication Break Down


Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:6-7

In 2016 here in America all forms of communication are available and often taken for granted. When you can't get a cell signal, GPS, or other things it is very disconcerting. I think of those in the recent hurricane's path who were without electricity and possibility communication. But even leaving home without your mobile device can send you into a turmoil because you get so used to it.

Did you know God communicates to you? Yes through His word. Who hasn't had one of those days and then miraculously a friend or family member shows up and things much better?

God cares about what you are going through. You may feel as if He has forgotten you but that will never happen. Don't allow Satan to discourage you. Press on!
PRAYER: In my times of despair or hopelessness I know you are right there with me. Your word is a light to my path. Thanks. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Cast The First Stone


When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her." John 8:7

Recently lots of hatred is being spewed forth not only in the secular world and news media about a certain presidential candidate talking about past sins, mistakes, but sadly I have heard of it from Christians as well. Didn't Jesus tell us to love and pray for people and this would probably mean to not smear their name on Facebook or other sources? 

It is much easier to hate than to love. The word hate has been redefined by some to include those who disagree with someone's relationship say something is wrong. That is not hate but a differing of opinions. I have a novel idea. Why it comes to this election,please do go vote,as it is your privilege to do so. Pray for those running and also pray for the ability to love those you don't agree with.

Politics can really turn people ugly. It is almost like the playing field for Satan getting people so upset,fearful,and angry. You know God isn't happy with how some folks judge and condemn. Not all news is truthful anyway. Put down the paper and pick up God's word and see if you don't feel better. 

PRAYER:Lord Jesus it saddens me to see so much anger around election time. So much division and even broken friendships all because of differing opinions. Oh Father guard my heart. Give me wisdom from you not the media in deciding who to vote for. In Jesus' name.Amen.

Humble?

Let another praise you, and not your own mouth; a stranger, and not your own lips. Proverbs 27:2
Everyone loves to meet humble people. The kind that ask about you and don't start telling you all about themselves. Tooting your own horn is tempting at times but clearly not the way God would intend it. 

You might have lots to brag about, or share,  as some would say, but why not talk about others and get them to tell you about what things they like to do. Everyone does not need to know your child's GPA, that you were 1st in your class, that you were Prom Queen, but when they find out on their own it is a better thing. No one needs to prove their importance or worth because your worth in God's eyes is much better. 

Be thankful for the wonderful achievements God has blessed you with or your gifts and abilities but let another praise you. 

PRAYER: Help me Lord when I am tempted to toot my own horn to control that urge. It is not important. I want to have true humility as a trait in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

In The Flock


My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27
Have you ever observed a farm field full of animals once the farmer shows up? All the animals are used to him and follow him particularly when they hear his voice. Sheep herders also have their sheep follow them and the sheep trust them.

Your flock could be your children, a prayer group you lead, your Bible study, but regardless you tend to follow the leader and if you are that leader it is a immense responsibility. This is so important to remember also as to  who you are following in the spiritual realm. Do you hear God's voice or do too many 'voices' in the world crowd it out and over power it? 

Take inventory of your life and maybe pay attention to which 'voices' are more important to you and shape your thinking. Is it the Bible or maybe the newspapers and television news. Maybe you idolize a certain celebrity or pop star. If you claim Jesus is Lord of your life you need to stay in His flock and tune out the other distractions. 



PRAYER: I love you Lord. I love reading your word and listening to upbeat positive worship music. At times I have let other things 'guide' me and give me strength to stay on the path that leads to you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Just Say No!


I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. Galatians 2:20

For those of us who are not presently employed whose children are grown and gone it can be tempting to over volunteer. Somehow I know it has happened to me but you feel unworthy if when someone asks what you do you have to somehow prove you have a fancy title. I have struggled with this area off and on for years. Your worth is not in your activities, degrees, titles, but in your worth in the eyes of Jesus Christ. 

If you struggle with not being able to say no to seemingly worthy activities, take a step back. Weigh the costs first on your family. Whether today's modern world likes to hear it or not, if you are married,  the lady is usually the primary homemaker if she is not working outside the home. Not a slave, a servant, a doormat but one who joyfully keeps her home nice, the place God blessed you with. 

In all your busyness and activities do you set aside time alone with the King of Kings, Jesus Christ? You may hear the sermon talking about putting God first  and say He is number one, but usually a thing that is number one is on top of the priority list. So is He on yours or squeezed out by too much other stuff. Something to consider. 

PRAYER: Lord Jesus forgive me for the times I have begrudgingly been not satisfied with where I am and felt unimportant. I know that is a lie from the pit of hell. I ask you let me wake up joyful in my day's journey ready to serve you and shine your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Happy Birthday.....Yes It Is!!!!!


Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life. Proverbs 16:31

Today mark's my great niece Rylee's 16th birthday. This is a birthday milestone and a life milestone. Birthdays are special no matter if they represent a milestone or not. They celebrate life and celebrate you. Everyone should be celebrated. Never dread the years of your life and growing older.

Jokes are made when a person turns 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 and so on. Commercials on television particularly target women using a 24 year old model to advertise wrinkle cream or spot remover. Oh why oh why is it so hard to embrace growing older? That is a question each of us needs to ask. 

Stay positive as you get older. My suggestion is to not write a Christmas letter filled with all the medical ailments and body part replacements you have had assuming this is the new normal. Try to stay upbeat no matter if you are physically suffering or not. Each of us walks a different walk in life and don't envy those your age not suffering but pray for them to stay in good health. Sure age brings some issues with it but don't let them define you is what I am trying to get at. Enjoy your life and shine Jesus' light no matter what your age. 

PRAYER: Lord you are good. Life is good. I pray for those persons having a hard time adjusting to growing older to accept it as part of the plan. I pray for those who have had family members die and not understand. Help us rejoice with those who rejoice. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Walk By Faith


For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

Sometimes it is hard to keep going once you have endured something or waited for something. You pray and pray and pray some more but don't see changes. Those who don't understand the spiritual side of life may mock you saying "Well so and so prayed and look what happened to him." You have to trust and keep walking and not let go of the rope.

A story was told to me about a man in a coma whose family had lost hope and had called in hospice and were making funeral plans. Humanly it looked like death was imminently on the proverbial doorstep. But alas something unexpected occurred and the man came back to life in a miraculous way. The story is never over even when things look bleak and hopeless. Many people have recovered and gone on to testify about it. 

I can not say every situation turns out like this but you have to have faith, trust, and hope. Shut out negative voices. Whether it is a restored relationship you are waiting on, a medical miracle, a job offer, God is still on the throne and His plan and His ways sometimes are beyond understanding. Keep walking and keep believing. 

PRAYER: You are on the throne, you are God alone. I praise you in good times and in bad. In Jesus' name. Amen.

RV's, Mansions, Boats, Trips, Oh My!



 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Philippians 4:11-12

Do your ever find yourself swooning over someone's newly acquired motor home, speed boat, motorcycle, travel plans, or massive home? It is human nature to have envy in our heart but God's nature is to be content with what you have and to not covet or desire others possessions.

Here in the United States all of us are the envy of many in Third World countries. I mean you have running water right? How about electricity? A roof over your head? Food in the refrigerator even some spoiled because you're bought too much and forgot about it. Indeed we are blessed without all the other fancy added stuff.

Today don't be desiring other things and putting yourself in debt to get something your probably don't really need and may not even use. Be yourself and be thankful. Keep your eyes on the cross and the lust of the flesh should go away.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the many blessings in my life. I am indeed blessed. Even if I am sick I am blessed with access to awesome medical care. I thank you for freedom to worship you and for the many friends in my life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Untie The Apron Strings



I asked the Lord to give me this boy, and he has granted my request. Now I am giving him to the Lord, and he will belong to the Lord his whole life.” And they worshiped the Lord there. 1 Samuel 1:27-28
Male readers bear with me a few moments but this is about the art of letting go of adult children which I have not mastered totally but am trying. You need to snip those apron strings and especially the older they get do not try to orchestrate their lives. One thing you can always do and should do is pray.

We are given children for a season and have about 18 years to raise them. After that college, marriage, and careers and possibly eventually children comes along and it can be very tempting to try to lord over someone but keep in mind your children are adults and they don't need you to give advice unless they ask for it. It is best to try to bite your tongue.

The thing you can do is to continually pray for them. That is why I am ever so thankful for my Moms in Prayer group. It is a confidential wonderful way to come together each week and pray for our children ages kindergarten through career time. Men can probably get a bunch of dads together to pray but moms tend to be the ones who are crying out to God for the lives of our children in a different way than dads do. Now is the time to pray,not preach.

PRAYER: I pray for those with adult children to be respectful of them and continue to lift them up in prayer. I pray for those with married children to learn to let them lead their own lives and continue to pray. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Pray And Mean It!



And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. Luke 22:44 

How is your prayer life? Is it a casual bedtime lay me down to sleep prayer? Maybe it is a meal time simple one thanking God for your meal? Perhaps a cry for help when in danger? All these prayers are nice but have you ever really gotten serious about talking to God? 

I am not sure what your experience with prayer is, but if someone asks you to pray for them maybe the best thing to do is to stop right then and  there and pray with them be it over the phone, in a parking lot, at the movie theater lobby, over lunch. Never be ashamed to do this. What is to be ashamed of anyway? It is the enemy who brings that on people so boldly go ahead and pray. 

Prayer is simply having a chat with God. No big fancy language needed. No man of God has to lead you in prayer. Just pray. Be sincere and pour out your heart to the Lord. If you have not gotten into this very important habit why not begin today? 

PRAYER: I thank you that I can come to you in prayer either alone or with another person. You want to hear my prayers and sometimes I get so busy I forget to do this. Forgive me and help me to never be ashamed and to just pray. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Active Now


 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.John 14:27

Americans are obsessed with information and social media almost to the point of being a sickness. When I got on my phone recently to post my food intake for the day I noticed '28 green lights' that indicated some of my 'friends' were active online at that time as well. Sometimes inquiring minds just want to know but do we really need to?

 Wouldn't it be great if we could read God's word as much as things on social media? Imagine how life would improve. All these photos and tidbits of news a click away is enticing but unless controlled can control you. Is it time to bring balance to your life? Only you can answer that question.

Try this. When you are tempted to check the status of friends or family instead go get your Bible and start reading Psalms. Try to keep track of just how much time is spent peering into others lives through social media and see if maybe it is not time to peer into Jesus' life more. Just saying.

PRAYER: Lord I confess I have wasted lots of time with things that really don't matter for eternity especially on social media. I pray for younger relatives who are growing up in this generation with non stop device use. Help me learn to step away and rest. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stronger Through The Storm




But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 Timothy 3:1
I am driving down the interstate one morning and up pops this catchy insurance company billboard which is my title today. Storms of life are certainly not fun but many of them are almost necessary for making us into the people God intends for us to be. A way of smoothing rough edges and making us a beautiful finished product in the Master's hand.

Many today think we are in the last days because of so much evil going on. Broken families, riots, distrust of government, back stabbing by friends, terrorism within our own borders, homicides, lying, abortion of 52 million unborn babies, people unhappy with the gender God gave them wanting a sex change operation, and on and on it goes. Within families alone many despair over prodigal children. 

God is on the throne. He has not gone anywhere nor will He. Today I met a lady at the gas station in a God thing moment who told me I cheered her up as she had woken up gloomy. There is no need to feel hopeless. God has a plan. Only trust Him. 

PRAYER: I don't enjoy going through storms and trials Lord but ultimately you have a plan and purpose and I know the rest of the story as the late radio host Paul Harvey used to say. I will trust in you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
