Don't Get Too Nosey

And to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

After reading the verses above many may rethink their Facebook 'stalking' or as the National Enquirer puts it "Enquiring Minds Want To Know...I Want To Know!" The new era of social media has put a new twist on things. Today's children under the age of ten have not grownup knowing anything but electronic devices. It is up to parents who raise them to put limits on things and to stress human interaction and humility.

Just how much is necessary to know? If you have married children, they deserve privacy and respect. Remember the "leave and cleave" verse in Ephesians 5:31? As for Facebook, it is a nice tool to have but as my older son puts it, it is like living vicariously through other people. These tools are great and they are helpful for preaching the word of God "in season and out of season" as it says in 2 Timothy 4:2.

Don't get to the point in life you have to find out everything about every person be it celebrities or just your friends. All the extra information really doesn't add to the quality of life now does it?

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for all the ways to communicate these days. I thank you for the blessing of seeing pictures and hearing from friends and family. Help me learn how to use self control in managing social media usage. In Jesus' name.Amen.

  1. Thank you for the reminder to strive to live a quiet life. Sometimes we try to 'be there' for our friends and we have to ask about certain circumstances in their lives. But, when we ask, we have to keep in mind those friends don't always have to answer our questions.
