Do You Worship Work?

"But I have this complaint against you. You don't love me or each other as you did at first! Revelation 2:4

Are you the kind of person who has let your job become all consuming, perhaps above things of the Lord or family? I have heard heart breaking stories of those who love their career so much they even put family on hold. Only the Holy Spirit can change a person's heart. I know those who work so hard and then say Sunday is their only free day they have so consequently use it for something other than church. Work at times may lure people into a false sense of importance through their titles, the income it provides, the recognition, the excitement, the perks, or the home they live in. All these things are superficial. 

Family is in fact forever. Bigger homes, a nicer car, more toys do not matter in the end. It is great to have an excellent career you work hard to get but do not allow the achievements of this world to outweigh your passion for Christ or forget Him altogether. The world can indeed captivate people and Satan is called the 'prince of this world'(see John 12:31). We are to live in this world but not be of it. 1 John 2:15 says "Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them."

The ball is in your court so to speak. Get sucked into the things of the world so much can not hear the voice of God or go to work but yet lead a life pleasing to Him. 

PRAYER: Father be with those people who work full time and help them not forget to let you be first place in their lives. Help the things of this world not captivate them and cause them to squeeze you out. Keep my focus firmly on you as well. In Jesus' name. Amen.
