As I sat in the USO at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport recently I was thinking about servant hood. The volunteers in this extremely wonderful organization give of their time at USO's in major airports as well as Manhattan to serve those who have served their country.
The greatest among you will be your servant. Matthew 23:11
There is not a draft in this country. Young men and women answer the call to be a volunteer soldier. Sure they get paid, but they have said yes to a lifestyle more than a job. This new life is something not everyone can get into. Many are eliminated in the process. It takes a unique kind of person to know they may be called into harms' way at any moment. Yet they do it for you and for me. Rigorous training is the norm.
Next time you are in an airport and see a service member or veteran wearing the familiar 'I Served' ball cap, say thanks, for without their service and sacrifice we would not be living in this wonderful country. Freedom is not free.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for blessing us with many fine men and women who willingly answer the call to protect this country. Protect them as they protect us. In Jesus' name. Amen.
