Stay In Shape For Your Job

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
This past September 11 was the 13th anniversary of the horrific attacks on our country at the World Trade Center, Pentagon, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Similar to 2001, I could hardly believe my eyes as I watched it replay on the History Channel all day. One of the firefighters wives was being interviewed about how the entire NYC firefighter battalions were ordered back to work. Her husband had been out jogging to stay in shape for his job. As we all saw on the news coverage of firefighters bounding up several flights of stairs to rescue people. Indeed running up steps takes a very fit and disciplined person especially when running into danger.

It was necessary that day in order to cope or deal with this tragedy to be strong spiritually as well as physically and emotionally. Why didn't God stop this? Why did this happen? Chaplains were called on to bring peace in the unexplainable.

Are you spiritually fit? If you had to deal with comforting others in a situation like this would you be able to or would you be mad at God? Good things do come out of bad. Yes there was terrible loss and grief and the grief continues, but there were good stories too. Whatever you are going through hold on to God. He is your help and our hope.

PRAYER: I thank you Lord that no matter what life brings you are there for our shelter. I can cry out to you any time day or night. In Jesus' name. Amen.

  1. Becky: You are correct; we all need to be spiritually fit. When we are we can face our own needs and be ready to comfort and encourage our friends and neighbors in their times of need.
