Hooray for the Red, White, and Blue!

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people who He chose for His inheritance. Psalm 33:12

From the statistics I see  on my blogger site I know I have some foreign readers, which thrills me! So to those foreign readers  please bear with me for a moment okay?  Today in America happens to be Memorial Day. This day is set aside to honor those men and women who in service to this country paid the ultimate price with the shedding of their blood. It is because of these brave men and women that we can sit in a free country today with all of its' benefits.

After the terrorists attacks at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001 once again the flag and country became popular. If you did not already own an  American flag, there were hardly flags in stock then. In my opinion all Americans should have an American flag  and put it out on display proudly every day not just on Memorial Day or other patriotic holidays.

The flag is very  important to those who have served in our Armed  Forces especially in foreign lands and on faraway battlefields. When the tragic death of a service member occurs on active duty his or her flag draped coffin comes into Dover AFB in Delaware, where they process deceased active duty soldiers. My father served a  few years in the World War II era and thankfully got sick and was not deployed with his unit of coastal artillery most of whom  were killed. Even though never in combat I requested that when he die, there would be an American flag on his casket. I have that flag in a case now on display in my home. I would like a flag on my casket when my time on Earth is complete too. I am proud of this great nation and all it means to the many immigrants who  legally came here for freedom on the Mayflower and beyond. The Pilgrims braved harsh conditions and many did not survive. The flag is a symbol of a free nation whose people loved Jesus as well.

Take a moment today wherever you are and stop and thank God for the freedom we enjoy and ask for His protection over the Armed Forces as they serve selflessly throughout the world often with little respect by others.

PRAYER: On this day Lord I say thank you for living in America. Thank you for freedom. Thank you for those who serve to protect us. In Jesus' name. Amen.

  1. Becky:For the past several years, a man at our church has overseen a project for Memorial Day. He has,for a long time, set out large flags for Memorial Day , July 4th, and Veterans' Day. On Memorial Day he has a display for the fallen hoosiers in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. The congregants are asked to select at least one card with a fallen soldier's name on it. Thecongregant is aske to pray for that family. I have a few pictures on my blog (5/26/2014) showing some of the flags.
