GOD'S TIMING



Many times we become frustrated with prayer and think God just is not listening. He has a greater plan than we do and knows what he is doing. Perhaps you have been lifting a certain issue up in prayer for a family member or friend and it seems there is no change or breakthrough. God is not finished. His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts.

Many people experience the rough waters and storms of life and just feel like throwing up their hands in desperation. Perhaps some of you reading this can identify with that feeling. To continually dwell on a situation you have been praying to change you need to focus on God hearing you and loving you and then try to think about something else. The thought life has to come under control of the Holy Spirit.

Our thoughts can hold us captive almost like being in a jail cell. No way of escaping if we let junk continually drag us down. It is time to get up, get going, and shout out "Jesus you are Lord. Thank you for hearing my prayers for________ and fill in that blank". Then get busy thinking on something else. God is indeed in control.

Isaiah 55:8-9(NIV) says 'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord.As the heavens are higher than the earth so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than yours.' A second verse to "fix" your mind on is Philippians 4:8(NIV) which I refer to a good deal in my writings. You may have it memorized by now. It says 'Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.' When you decide to purposely think positive and on "good" things then your life will be much more peaceful. Give your concerns to God and wait for his answer in His time.

PRAYER:Your timing Lord is perfect. It sometimes is hard to wait but I know you hear my prayers and are working in the life of______________. (Fill in blank). You are in control Lord and the worker of miracles and I thank you for that. In Jesus' name. Amen.

ANOTHER DAY!!! YIPPEE!!



Oh happy day! Oh glorious day! Oh wonderful day!  So you say you are not a morning person? Well hop up out of bed one day and say one of the three statements above. Each day is a gift from God to go out into the world around you and shine His love on others. Don't lie in bed fearful, depressed, and moping. 

In Psalm 118:24(NKJV) it says 'This is the day the Lord has made. We shall rejoice and be glad in it!'  Are you able to get up and just say "thank you Lord for another day to impact the world" and then get up and get going?

Each brand new day comes with brand new challenges and a clean slate in which to begin. I find that great! We can choose to be positive and joyful or negative and fretful. What do you choose? 

I know God watches over me each and every day and that makes me smile. Lamentations3:22-23(ESV) says 'The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end, they are new every morning.Great is your faithfulness.' 

Lift up your eyes and shout unto God that you love this day and what it holds for you. Psalm 90:12(NIV) says 'Teach us to number our days so we may gain a heart of wisdom.'

Most everyone is familiar with The Lord's Prayer. In Matthew 6:1(NIV) says 'Give us this day our daily bread' which means just what it says, "give us what we need"  not necessarily what we want. He does provide for us and our needs. 

Today you have a chance to go into the day with a new attitude. The past is gone. So why not say "yippee" and get on with it? God Bless You!

PRAYER: I am excited that with each morning sunrise we get a brand new chance to do things differently if we messed up somewhere or get to try new things. It is a new day to sing your praises. Help me resist the enemy trying to make me dwell in the past as I jump up joyful and say "use me today Lord". In Jesus' name.Amen.

COMMITMENT





What does it mean to be committed? I am not referring to the days when people were "Committed" to a mental institution but the word commitment itself what does it mean and are you are committed person?

Today one of my best friends in Indiana and her spouse, whom she met in college, are celebrating 40 years of Holy matrimony together. As Dave says "Meet Becky my first wife" when he introduces me. I am not saying this to make those who are divorced feel bad because often times there are reasons for divorce such as abuse, neglect, adultery or some reason you had no clue and were blind sided when your spouse dropped the bomb shell on you. God forgives and you can begin anew.

I pray for my son and his wife daily to have a fantastic God filled marriage and do it till death do them part. I believe they will.

Commitment is more than just taking a vow before God to be faithful in sickness and health but it is to be committed to a project also you need to finish. Or to be committed to a friend to follow through on a task you promised to do.

Basically it is responsibility and loyalty to someone. In marriage you put your spouse first or should as you are now a team. Sure you have individual likes and dislikes but you are forged together for life to share life together.

Can you commit to something and follow through? Psalm 37:5(ESV) says 'Commit your way to the Lord , trust in Him and He will act.' Have you ever committed your life to Jesus? Did you feel different? I hope so. Commitment requires time. Are you willing to give time to the Lord to know Him better?

PRAYER: Today Lord I thank you for the ability to be committed. To follow through on a vow or a project. You strengthen me to follow you and to do what I promised. Help me as I seek your face to learn what commitment realy is all about. In Jesus' name. Amen.

GOD IS SO AWESOME!


In the recent thunderstorms we have had here in the area in which I live, it is hard to not marvel at the glory of God shown in nature. We are not to worship nature but we can look at the beauty of the things around us and know this all did not happen by some scientific thing or tremendous bang. How can anyone not think God is the creator is beyond me.

Mountains, streams, whitewater, singing birds, eagles swooping down, seeds that produce food to nourish and sustain life. It is incredible. On a starry night gaze up into the night sky and see the twinkling. If you are flying in a plane just ponder the greatness and the vastness of creation as you gaze upon the clouds. God is indeed great. We are part of that great creation. Just the way he spoke all of this into existence. It is marvelous!

If something is weighing you down today why not stop for a moment and get outside and look up into the sky and think of the glory of God. We are so little compared to most things in His creation yet He cares for us and loves us so very much. It is nice to get away to a park if you can. By all means be safe but get to a place where noise is not a factor. Stop for a moment and just lift your hands in praise to God. He indeed is great and mighty!

Psalm 19:1(NIV) says 'the heavens declare the glory of God, the skies proclaim the work of His hands.' John 1:1(NIV) says 'In the beginning was the Word and the Word was God.' Continue reading in the book of John. It will indeed lift your spirits if you are having a bad day.

PRAYER: Today Lord I once again say thanks for all the great things in your creation. You have provided this beautiful land for us to enjoy and care for. Thank you for meeting our needs and helping us each and every day. I love you Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.

LIVING IN PARADISE IS GREAT

 
My son and daughter in law live in a beautiful state dubbed by their license plates as "Vacationland". It is fun to get to live where everybody just dreams they will get to visit someday. Not that all states and countries don't have their high points, but to really live and experience these "dream areas" 24/7 is quite another thing. Sure you have to go to work to make money to enjoy them but it is worth it. I have lived in one such area on the coast of Central California for a little over two years and indeed it was a blessing. This place had a view from my second story apartment window of the coastline of California. It was beautiful.

As beautiful and fun that some places are in the world the best place yet is going to be heaven the real paradise. Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 2:9(NAS) that 'but just as it is written, "Things whicheye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the heart of man, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.'
As much as I get excited about the oceans, the sea shore, mountains or for some folks perhaps Disney Land does it for them, multiply that by the biggest number ever and we can not even begin to imagine what heaven is going to be like.

Streets of gold? Waterfalls? Perfect weather? No hatred? Peace? Pristine beaches? These are just some ideas. That verse says there is "no way" we can even comprehend it. John 14:1-4(NIV) says '“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going thereto prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.”

It is going to be a super place! Remember more than we can even imagine. Does that excite you? If it does why do you suppose so many people are afraid of death? Maybe they are not fully prepared to meet God upon their death. Perhaps people have an idea we will be sitting around playing harps and it will be boring. Friend it will not be boring. If you are not sure where you are going upon your death maybe it is time right now to ask Jesus to come into your heart and take control and be Lord of your life from this time forward. No one knows when they will breathe their last breath. Why not be sure?

PRAYER: Lord I am excited about what heaven will be like. As much as my mind can try to imagine you have said there is no way I possibly can. Oh lord I pray for my friends who are not sure about their salvation. Joining a church does not guarantee admission to the heavenly kingdom nor does just showing up at church for one hour each week. Lord Jesus today help me spread your love to others and be prepared to show others just how neat heaven will be. In Jesus' name. Amen.

KINGS' KIDS


 Recently a future king was born in Great Britain. The media here and overseas went gaga over the new baby. That is practically all the news was for weeks prior to the due date.

Do you realize all of us are royalty as we are child of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? Not everyone acknowledges that though. Our King Jesus is greater than an earthly King or royalty. Human kings may have great power but the King of Kings is all powerful and not subject to an earthly king.


Our earthly kingdom will one day no longer be here. All the celebration around earthly royalty will one day fade away. When Jesus returns in all His glory Revelation 19:16(NIV) says 'On his robe and on his thigh He has His name written, king of king and lord of Lord's.' The whole earth will know when He returns who the real King is.

All dictators, tyrants, celebratory Kings, princes, czars, presidents and other leaders will no longer be in charge as if they ever truly were anyway. In Romans 14:11 it says 'every knee will bow and every tongue acknowledge him.' Read that entire chapter when you get a moment. It will be a glorious time. If you think there is a celebration now around this royal newborn just wait till Jesus returns!!

Are you ready? Are you a King's Kid? If not you can stop and ask Jesus to be your Lord and savior right now. Be ready when your King returns!

PRAYER: Thank you Lord Jesus for accepting me just like I am. I am glad to call myself a King's kid. You are greater and more powerful and more wonderful than any earthly king. Lord Jesus I am excited about your coming. In Jesus' name. Amen.

BE GOOD TO MOMMY DAY


 When I was a child there was a 45 rpm record(like a CD for those clueless to what I mean) or a television show with
a little song that said "It's another be good to mommy day" and how true that is and was! Be good to your mommy's if you are still blessed to have them here on Earth. That little song still sticks in my brain to this day years later.

We are all here because of a mommy and of course a daddy too. There may be some who experience hurt and pain when thinking of their mommy's and want nothing to do with her. But she gave you life!

The key to any relationship is to be able to truly let go of hurt and pain and forgive. Your mom may have been terrific and a best friend to you or she may have been an alcoholic who abandoned you. There are many children today who are waiting for adoption or born into a single parent household. The children did not ask to be hurt or left behind or sold as sex slaves or whatever be the case. If your time with your mommy was great, rejoice! If not let go and forgive.

Today is not Mother's Day but we are to show honor, respect, and love to our moms all the time. Perhaps you were adopted, then guess what? You were chosen!

Better yet, God chose all of us and loves each of us deeply. It says in Psalm 139:13(NIV) says 'For you created my inmost being. You knit me together in my mother's womb.' Maybe there are those of you out there who were rejected by your parents or your mom, well in Psalm 27:10(NIV) we are told 'though my father and mother forsake me the Lord will receive me.'

You have no reason to feel rejected if your mom hurt you because Jesus is there and wants you to know He loves you so very much. He can heal the hurt and pain and restore hope and happiness.

I was blessed and still am thankfully, to have a wonderful mom who did so much for me. My dad died about 21 years ago but my mom is still doing well as she approaches 89. It is truly a blessing to have her and I am grateful to her for so much.
Today and every day take time to ponder all the great things both your parents did for you. If you are a new mom or dad look at the golden opportunity ahead to shape your child for The Lord. God only "loans" us our children anyway it says in 1 Samuel 1:28.If you are a mom pray daily for your children. I prayed for mine even before they were born. God in fact hears and answers prayers.


Today take time to forgive and let go of pain if you did not have the really good relationship. God can redeem, restore, and rejuvenate your life so let him.
PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the gift of moms. Thank you for the miracle of childbirth. Lord God without you and my parents I would not exist I know there is a plan for me no matter what my past or how old I am. Thank you Lord for your love. In Jesus' name. Amen!

LOOK STRAIGHT AHEAD


What happens when you are walking and you do not keep your eyes straight ahead? Just watch people fixated on a "communication device" also know as Smart phones to see what occurs. If the person does not occasionally look up they may run into people or might fall down. Your focus needs to be "straight ahead" in order that you can see obstacles in your path.

Life is like that too. You have to stay focused straight ahead and on your goals and your dreams. Do not allow nay sayers to tell you you can not do something. Do not allow Satan to lie to you and tell you there is no hope for you or for a loved one because there is always hope.

Keeping focused straight ahead, and not behind, is the key. The Bible has something to say about this as well. It tells us in Proverbs 4:24-27(NIV) 'Let your eyes look straight ahead, fix your gaze directly before you. Make level paths for your feet and take only ways that are firm. Do not swerve to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.' Focus ahead, straight ahead. Do not let Satan cause you to take another path, look back, or look down. 2 Peter 3:13(KJV) says 'But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.' Read the entire chapter to get this verse in it's proper context but basically earth one day will be destroyed and believers need to be looking ahead to heaven with great anticipation.
1 Corinthians 9:24(NIV) says '
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.' Winners look up and straight ahead. They do not fix their gaze anywhere but upon the prize.

What are you looking ahead too? Maybe it is a raise at work. Perhaps the birth of a baby.
A marriage and life together with the one you love.
Whatever it is hopefully a life lived for Jesus is in the equation. Run your race of life straight ahead to win the heavenly prize.

PRAYER: Dear Father I thank you that I have much to look forward to. Sometimes I may have become distracted and seemingly acted like something was more important than the heavenly prize. Help me Lord keep looking up and helping others to keep looking straight ahead as well.

THIRTY IS OLD? I DON'T THINK SO!

Depending how "young" you are in life and how many birthdays you have celebrated thirty may sound old. I can recall back when I was about 24, thinking 40 sounded horribly old. Today it seems young and I happen to not feel old either. It is all in your attitude and not in the mirror. The world seems to be down on being old and it is cool to be young. I mean how many commercials do you see with older people as the stars unless it is for aging? Many older person's have contributed a great deal to society. Do not let the lies of the enemy make you feel washed up if you are over 30, over 40, over 50, over 60 or whatever your age.
Each year of life is a gift from God. Age is not to be dreaded. Age is to be celebrated! Proverbs 16:31(NIV) reminds us that 'Gray hair is a crown of glory, it is gained in a righteous life.' Hopefully we learn through the years from our mistakes and that is why the older you get the better your advice should be. In Titus 2:2-4(NIV) it says 'Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance. Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can urge the younger women to love their husbands and children.'
Getting older is a gift from God. I grieve for those who have lost babies,children, or teenagers and then get mad at God. I found a verse in Isaiah 57:1(NIV) which says 'The righteous perish, and no one takes it to heart; the devout are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil.' God can use what is seemingly heartbreak and tragedy although it is not recommended you run up to a grieving person and say that.

Today give thanks for each day the Lord has given you and the years ahead. If you are young, whatever age that really is as some folks think 59 is young, then bloom right where you are and do not dread what is ahead.
Do not wait till you are in your twilight years to start reading your Bible. You never know when you will breathe your last breath. Young people,do not think living for Jesus is boring. It is freedom and life! I will end with Proverbs 1:7(KJV) which says 'the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge but fools despise wisdom and instruction.'

Today whatever your age say how many years "young" are you and do not think it is a bad thing to get older. It is a blessing from God.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for each year of life you have given me. Thank you for the lessons I have learned through mistakes I have made. I choose to stay on the path of righteousness and to look forward to birthdays. In Jesus' name. Amen.

STORM CLOUDS DON'T STOP US!


As I sit on my back porch writing, ominous looking black storm clouds are forming overhead. There is the sound of distant rumbling indicating an approaching storm. My area is all too familiar with threatening storms.

Looking at the dark clouds up in the sky reminds me of the darkness that can overshadow a life when people stray from God's path. It does not mean that we can not return again to the light of Jesus. Darkness can consume a person. The way to get rid of darkness is to flip on a light switch, light a candle or open the shades. Darkness has to leave when floods of light come in.

1 John 1:5-7(NIV) says 'This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness,we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.'

Often times a person can be dabbling in the "darkness" being deceived by Satan, the father of lies. It is necessary to pray that the truth and light come into your life or the life of the loved one you may be praying for. Light and darkness can not co-exist.

The late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said "Darkness cannot drive out darkness only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.' Guess where love originates? With God of course!

There is good and there is evil in the world around us. We are in a battle for our very souls. Satan is on one side deceiving, tricking, lying, corrupting, stealing, and suffocating people and God is there with the truth, mercy, forgiveness,and love waiting with open arms for people to run back to Him and out of the darkness. Spiritual warfare is what it is called.

To fight the battle you have to be armed and ready. You can not just dabble for one hour each Sunday and not take this seriously. This requires "arming" yourself and getting serious about the truth. Satan loves it when people are just "dabblers" or "Sunday Christians" then he can do his best to keep you in spiritual darkness. You have no power because you are not serious enough to know the word of God.

Today is the day to get serious about loving God and winning the war of good versus evil we are in. Shine the light to get rid of the darkness.

PRAYER: Today Lord I will not allow the darkness and storms of this life to consume me. I refuse to allow Satan to gain a foothold in my life. I choose today to pray not only for myself but for others close to me who may be caught up in dark storm clouds and have lost their way. Bring them back to the light of Jesus! In Jesus' name. Amen.

NO SUBSTITUTES


There are some things you can not substitute in life but need the real thing.
You might be able to get by with artificial sweetener, recycled paper, used furniture, fake marble countertops, or a school teacher standing in for the actual teacher but when it comes to being a Christian there is no substitute for the Word of God, the Bible.

I love watching Christian television stations and there are several good ministers of the gospel who preach and teach over the airwaves. Most all of them will tell you to not substitute your "TV Bible time" for an actual getting alone with God time. This takes discipline because there is some real good teaching out there I enjoy watching. What is needed is to make a habit of getting alone with you,God, your Bible and a journal to write down thoughts. I enjoy doing this on my back porch or maybe up in a park somewhere.

Coca Cola advertises as "The Real Thing" and The Bible is the real thing too. Revelation 22:19(HCSB) says '
And if anyone takes away from the words of this prophetic book, God will take away his share of the tree of life and the holy city, written in this book.'
There is a church that claims to have "another testament of Jesus Christ". My friend, there is only one word of God not to be added to or taken away from. There truly is no substitute for the truth and promises found within its' pages. Satan would love to extinguish it and have it vanish from the Earth because through it we are saved and have eternal life in heaven.
Lately the enemy is at work trying to get people to believe lies about marriage. It is like in the Garden of Eden when Satan appeared as a cunning serpent and deceived Adam and Eve. There the downfall of man all began. The truth of God was exchanged for lies straight from the enemy and the pit of a fiery hell.
1 Corinthians 16:13(NIV) says 'Be on your guard. Stand firm in your faith. Be courageous. Be strong.' 1 Peter 5:8(NLT) is a great verse to end with and it says '
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.'
Don't be led astray and fooled. Stay in the Bible and the truth will indeed set you free to recognize Jesus as Lord.
PRAYER:Lord you indeed are the real thing. You are my hope and I trust no one else. It is only through you Lord that we are saved and have eternal life. I know the enemy is lying to millions of people and trying to get them to believe lies. Protect me and my family from ever being tricked by his schemes. In Jesus' name'. Amen.

MAN ON THE MOON


43 years ago today Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the moon. What a thrill it was as television cameras brought this event to us in our living rooms! Indeed mankind, with God's help, had accomplished "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind" as was spoken by Mr. Armstrong as his feet touched the moons' surface. Also on this day 14 years ago The Miller family arrived from Mesa, Arizona to our new home state of Alabama. I recall as we entered the area from I-565 the giant Saturn V rocket at the U.S Space and Rocket Center looming larger than life.

Man certainly can accomplish much with the freedoms we have enjoyed in this country. The sky is seemingly the limit. When man does do something good he needs to make sure to remember who gave him the abilities and skills he has. It is not "to me be the power, to me be the glory. Wow aren't I something?" but instead people, when they accomplish great things or not so great things in man's opinion, need to remember there were many people who may have contributed to help them. Don't become puffed up and certainly say "thank you God!"'
Our youngest son was in several plays in high school and I recall each time in the program when they printed the actor's bio, he always said "thanks" to God. This as a mom made me smile. I have seen this in other programs to even include things like on Broadway or the Army Soldier Show touring the country and coming to my area next week. The performers who loved Jesus said so!! They realized their talents and getting to where they were was a gift from God.


So what big accomplishments have you done? Remember to let others praise you and to give God the glory! Proverbs 27:2(NIV) reminds us 'let someone else praise you and not your own mouth. An outsider and not your own lips.' This is not to say you can not share an accomplishment with close friends or family who love and care for you but the key is to pray for humility in all your deeds whether big or small. Truly humble people are a joy to be around.

1 Corinthians 10:31(NIV) says 'so whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.' In the Old Testament in the book of Deuteronomy 8:18(NIV) it reminds us 'But remember the Lord your God or it is He who gives the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms His covenant, which He swore to your ancestors, as it is today.'
Truly God is the giver of our freedoms and through freedom mankind is able to prosper, flourish, invent, create and help others. Many fine men and women throughout history have done outstanding things because of the freedoms in this country to "be all they can be" as the former Army motto used to say.


Remember today to ponder just exactly what man has done through the U.S Space Program and all the inventions that have come about over the years to make this country great and to help others nations. Indeed God is good and He reigns on high!

PRAYER: Today Lord help me in all that I lay my hand to. Help me to have creativity and to accomplish the work you want me to do. Forgive me Lord for ever boasting as I know all the praise and glory goes to you. In Jesus' name.Amen.

GRATITUDE AND ATTITUDE


It sure is easy to complain about our "lot" in life but have you ever stopped for a moment, especially for my United States readers, and really think about your blessings? We take so much for granted, which saddens me.

This subject came up as a writing topic as I reflected on our healthcare we "currently" enjoy in America and how grateful with my recent snow ski injury, I was able to quickly be seen by top notch medical doctors and physical therapists with little or no wait. In my case am grateful I have pretty much the same mobility as I know for many that is not always the case. Indeed it made me grateful first for mobility, having legs, being able to be seen by a doctor quickly and so much more.


Philippians 2:14-15(NLT) says 'Do all things without complaining and arguing so that no one can criticize you. Live clean innocent lives as children of God shining as bright lights in a world full of crooked and perverse people.' This would mean do not complain about the things you don't have but thank Him for what you are blessed with.
Nick Vujivic, who I have written about before, has no limbs. None. No arms, no legs. His ministry is "Life Without Limbs". Here is a young man who initially may have been depressed but he overcame an immense disability and turned it into an ability and a ministry reaching out to millions. Check out his website at www.lifewithoutlimbs.org. It is truly inspiring to hear him. Today he is on the last ten minutes of "Enjoying Everyday Life with Joyce Meyer". Do a gratitude exercise today. Get paper and start listing all the things you are grateful for. Not all the things you are "entitled" to as we are not entitled to anything. Just start writing down all the blessings in your life from the smallest things such as being able to hear chirping birds sing or being able to eat without a feeding tube. Let your mind rest and be able to think. I hope you come up with pages and pages.
Lamentations 3:22-23(NIV) are two of my favorite verses and they say 'Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed,for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.' When you are praying why not repeat that verse as part of your prayer. Psalm 68:19(NIV) says 'Bless the Lord who daily loads us with benefits.' I say to that "Hallelujah!"


He indeed loads us with blessings that we so often fail to say thank you. Take time today and give God the glory for all the great things he has done.

PRAYER: Today Lord I am overwhelmed by your goodness to me. I often times am humanly undeserving of your mercies and abundance you pour out on me. Material things are nice but your love and kindness to me is worth so much more. In Jesus' name.Amen.

FAITH OR FEAR/PROBLEMS OR PROMISES?



In life we have choices. We can choose good or evil. Right over wrong. We can choose to have faith and trust God or to cave into fear the enemy puts in our hearts. We can choose to believe God's promises found in the Bible or to continually focus on problems in life. What do you choose?Trust God or let the enemy torment you?

Did you know God's word, The Bible, is filled with promises to help combat doubts and fears that may come your way. It is good to try to memorize as many of these as you are able in order to draw it from your "faith arsenal" to use against the enemy when he tries to make you feel hopeless and alone.

Here are just a few.
Hebrews 13:5(NIV) 'Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what have for God has said "never will I leave you nor forsake you."'

Proverbs 22:6(NIV) 'Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it.'

Matthew 6:33(NIV) 'But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.'

Proverbs 3:5-6(NIV) 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding and in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.'

Philippians 4:19(KJV) 'But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.'

John 3:16(NIV) 'For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.'

There are many many more promises in God's word. Satan will do all in his power through a myriad of excuses and busyness to keep you from opening God's word each day. Is the newspaper going to comfort you and give you peace of mind? I don't think so. Will you be able to find the promises of God in a sports magazine? Probably not. The answer is to stay connected to God and His promises by making daily Bible reading a priority of each day.


What do you need to do in order to incorporate the promises in God's word into your life? Only you can answer that.

PRAYER: This is your day Lord. You gave it to me to serve you and to love you. Often I am fearful of things in the world around me because I dwell more on the news than I do the word of God. I plan to start anew to get my day planned where you are first, not just in my thoughts but it my habit of reading your word. Give me ability to do this with no excuses. In Jesus' name. Amen.

PRAY FOR YOUR ENEMIES

 
"I can't stand so and so". Has it ever shocked you to hear someone say this that maybe was in Bible study with you or a prayer group? Maybe it was you who uttered those words. Well sure we are not perfect but if we say we love Jesus we are not to be "willy nilly" going around hating people. I admit it is hard when someone has done something intentionally to hurt you.
Do you have enemies or people you just don't like? Did you know if you claim to love Jesus you are to not hate people even if they have done wrong or hurt you? You are to pray for them. This includes impossible bosses and co workers too by the way. 1 John 4:20(NIV) says ''If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.' Pretty straightforward wouldn't you say?
If you are having trouble loving evil people or those who hurt you, just try to pray for them instead. Keep praying and pray some more. Proverbs 24:17-18(NIV) is a great verse for those of us upset with many of the US elected officials who do not listen to the people and it says 'Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when he stumbles, do not let your heart rejoice, or the LORD will see and disapprove and turn his wrath away from him.' What to do then? Pray, God will take care of those hurting us on His own time table. Live your life in an attitude of prayer.
Keep shining the love of Jesus down on all those around you and make believe Jesus is right there beside you, because He is. 
PRAYER: Lord I choose this day to love like you love and to love when I would rather show hate. It glorifies you when I show love to my enemies. Help me today to shine your light for the world to see. In Jesus' name. Amen.

ANGRY? TRY PRAYING!

 
Do you have an anger problem or maybe simply just get upset every now and then? In today's world not just people can upset other people, but in the area where I reside, there is a military installation and the threat of furlough looms for many. This can create anger towards an out of control and abusive government with their priorities all out of whack. Whatever it is that may have you angry and you feel like you could scream, try praying instead. You will always get a better outcome if you pray first. Getting angry will not solve anything and it simply feeds the fire and could end up getting people hurt or in trouble.

The Bible says in James 1:20( NIV) 'human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires.' If you live with or know someone who has an anger issue first pray for them. Often deep seated issues can cause flare ups. A truly angry individual may need counseling. Some of these issues may be from wounds of the past. Try to let go and let God as the familiar saying goes.

Think about the things people argue about. Sometimes they are quite minor and silly, yet flare up till they are out of control. Our enemy Satan loves to get "godly" people in a tizzy and get them fighting. Don't let arguments start in the first place.

Situations in life can stir up anxiety and fear but to take the next step and get upset is not the direction to head. John 14:27(NIV) is a verse I use a good deal in my writing and it would be an ideal one to commit to memory. It says '
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.'

Indeed peace is what to seek in life. A calm from the storms of life. Turn to Jesus and let Him be your shepherd and guide you into peacefulness.

PRAYER: Lord sometimes I may get mad about something but I know it does not bring glory to you. Help me to seek to turn to you when I am upset to calm my heart and to turn anger over to you. Give me the ability to not overreact. In Jesus' name. Amen.

WHAT IS THE DEAL WITH SUPERSTITIONS AND HOROSCOPES?


There are months when Fridays fall on the 13th.It almost did this month. Many people find this disheartening and fear this day. Superstitions overwhelm them. I say "well that is just super" and go on with my day. There are many fearful of the number 13 whether it is the 13th floor in a building, the 13th row on a airplane, or just plain old Friday the 13th. My birthday is on Halloween and that is fine by me and never worries me. It is just a day! I am not superstitious. Black cats and walking under ladders is not a fear of mine either. We can either declare we have faith or fear. Being scared of the number 13 is an obsession and a fear to give to the Lord.

I have met Christians who read their horoscope daily for guidance. Long ago before I was serious about my walk with the Lord I may have even read mine occasionally. It seemed to be fun and seemingly innocent. Once I got "born again" things were not perfect all of a sudden, but I had no desire to do some of the things I once occupied my time with. Don't go the the horoscope section of your newspaper for your guidance. Is God the editor of the horoscope telling you through it this is what is going to happen? No.When I am asked what horoscope "sign" I am I simply say "I do not follow them" and often get weird looks implying "get with it girl".


Instead of worrying about the number thirteen or wondering what your horoscope tells you you need to do today, why not instead open up God's word? Start in the book of John in the New Testament. Read a chapter daily and then go to the Lord in prayer. The more you trust God each day the less you will find it necessary to go to the "stars" or worry about numbers.

2 Corinthians 5:17(ESV) says 'if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has passed away, the new has come.' I found that to be true. The Christian life is a constant journey. You fall down and get right back up again so to speak. God heals,God forgives, God redeems, God restores, God sets the captive free. Forget the past. If you have areas of your life that still need work and if we are honest we all do, then go to God in prayer and ask for His help. He is mighty to save!

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for this day you have made. It does not matter what date it is. I am not fearful of manmade superstitions that cause me fear instead of building my faith. I choose this day and every day to rejoice in the Lord and thank Him for another day no matter what the date is on the calendar. In Jesus' name. Amen.

RECHARGE YOUR BATTERY


Mobile communication devices, known as cell phones, not only sometimes need a Wi Fi connection but they are also in need of keeping a "charge" or the battery runs out. On a recent trip to our Nations Capitol mine "died" numerous times and I had no place to plug it in. Now I have bought a portable charger for the next time.

Charging a cell phone only once a week would not get service for very long. People are so concerned about losing contact with the outside world when their battery dies, but what about the "spiritual" battery? By this I mean that one hour in church plus a whole lot more. A one hour "pep talk" in church each Sunday is not adequate for keeping your "spiritual battery" charged.

So what to do you, might say? First, fall in love with Jesus! Next, make Bible reading a daily priority. It is only through looking at "His book" and getting the words of Christ inside of you that you will be able to grow and be fully prepared to keep going and going and going.

Matthew 5:6(NIV) says 'Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they shall be filled.' Why not go to God's "charging station" today and fill your mind with the things of Christ in order to keep going when life throws you a curve ball.

PRAYER: Today Lord I am sorry to say I have not always picked up the word of God. Sometimes not even on Sunday. Forgive me for allowing the enemy to put thoughts in my head that Sunday was "enough". I need to have you in my life around the clock in order to keep charged up for you. In Jesus' name. Amen.

YOUR RECOGNIZABLE VOICE


Don't you just love automated voice recognition systems which so manycompanies now utilize when you call? Kidding of course about the "loving them" as they may be modern but they annoy so many people. You just want to talk to a person
and then get a machine instead that keeps saying "I don't understand" and you may keep saying "agent please" in great frustration as you desperately attempt to talk to a human.

Or then for those with I Phones that have SIRI capability that is a whole new experience. Mine will say to me on many occasions "I don't understand Becky" and I may try and try again but my northern accent throws them off perhaps or rate of speech. Still it can be a wonderful tool but also very maddening.

Good news ahead! If you are a child of God He knows your voice. He isn't going to say "Who is this" when you pray to Him. John 10:14-15(NIV) says 'I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. Just as the Father knows me and I know the Father and I lay down my life for my sheep.' Psalm 91:14(ESV) says 'Behold he holds fast to me in love. I will deliver him, I will protect him for he knows my name.' Jesus "speaks" to us as believers by His word and perhaps through people too.

John 10:27(NKJV) says 'My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.'We are His "sheep" and He is our shepherd. He cares about everyone of his "sheep".Think about parents. Most parents always recognize their child's voice. We are children of God if we have accepted Him into our heart and He knows our voice. He hears your prayers. He loves you with an everlasting love. His heart breaks when you turn away from Him, don't spend time with Him, or act ashamed of knowing Him.

Today as your "hear His voice" through scriptures thank Him for recognizing yours when you call on Him.

PRAYER: Lord forgive me for ever having a "hard heart" when I do not behave like I know I should. I want to listen for your voice and sometimes this requires being still. Help me Lord to be still and to encourage others to do the same. In Jesus' name. Amen.

OH NO!


It is funny but the idea for this title came to me in the concept of thinking about times we utter the phrase "Oh no" so I jotted it down in my "idea" notebook and then planned to write on it in the coming week. Well sooner than later the writing began as I woke up today and could not find my Friday devotion which I had written a couple days ago. It was not in my Devotions file, spam file, inbox,or trash file but it was gone into cyber space. Instead of freaking out, which would be the normal reaction to this situation, I amazingly remained calm. Probably all of us who use computers can identify with losing files or having it crash on us right? 

So here I am at 5:30 a.m. recreating a Friday devotion of a totally new topic which was unplanned. Guess it was God's  plan to have it go out now though. 

So what other times in life do you utter this phrase "oh no!" Perhaps when you accidentally run out of gas?  Maybe you have car trouble in the form of a dead battery or it just won't start? Lost keys perhaps? Here is a good one, you lock your keys in your car? Been there done that!  You forget about something on the stove and it burns? You are going on a trip and get to the airport too late and miss your flight as the security line was longer than expected? Maybe bad weather or a mechanical issue cancels your flight? If you are an active person  and get injured and sidelined for a while that too makes you say "oh no" when you can not get out to run or do other things you enjoy. Perhaps if you are in school and have problems with an important test or maybe even fail it then you became quite discouraged. Indeed life gives us many times to say "oh no". 

What is the answer to life's frustrations? First we have to think of all we do have and what God has blessed us with. Thank Him. Things could always be allot worse. Praise Him in good times and in bad times. Keep your focus on Jesus as if you allow your thoughts to drag you into the worry frantic pit then  once again Satan will be so happy as he has derailed you from having peace that only God can give. 

One of my favorite verses is John 14:27(NIV) which reads as follows 'Peace I leave you my peace I give you. I do not give it to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." Also Colossians 3:15(NIV) is another terrific "peace verse" and it simply says "Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called  to peace. And be thankful.' Finally Isaiah 26:3(NIV) reminds us that 'You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast because they trust in you.'

There you have it. Your prescription for peace in a nutshell is basically to keep your mind on Christ and not on your problems and issues. Trust God to see you through whatever it is that has thrown you off course.

PRAYER: Today Lord I choose peace over chaos. I know at times in life things do not go as we planned. Help me to use opportunities when plans change because of no fault of my own to seize the opportunity to get closer to you by keeping my mind and heart peaceful. I know this drives the enemy crazy. I choose peace today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

OVER THE HUMP

There is a familiar phrase in the business world called "over the hump" simply meaning "I am half way through my work week and the weekend is coming!" Most who work long hard hours can hardly wait till another familiar term "casual Friday" is here!
We believers here on Earth need to be always thanking God for our jobs or even volunteer work we perform. Jobs are a gift and blessing from God. Not everyone who wants a job is blessed with one, then others have one and just complain. Actually I have met people who love their jobs. For instance my two sons and daughter in law love theirs.
When you are doing work do it with integrity. No taking home company paper,ink pens, paper clips and other "souvenirs" as they do not belong to you. No copying your own personal things on the company computer such as Sunday school or Bible study material. This is sort of stealing from your employer if you think about it. If you have been guilty of this ask for forgiveness from your employer and God. Also sitting playing games on the Internet at work is a big NO as well.
Looking forward to being over the hump is not a bad thing but keep working hard till the end of the week. In Colossians 3:23(NIV) it says 'Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.'
Maybe if you do not like your job you really can't hardly wait to have two days off. Be thankful anyway and try to muster up a good attitude. If your "job" is that of a stay home mom, do not demean your status. I have told people that being a Stay Home mom was a true blessing and I was thankful to have the opportunity to do so all the way through their high school days. It has been my favorite job by far!
1 Thessalonians 5:18(NIV) says ' give thanks in ALL circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. Are you thankful for work and for the paycheck it provides? Do you remember to give God a portion of that money back as a tithe? God is the one who gives us the ability to get work.
Are you as excited about getting over the "Saturday hump" too in order that you are excited to go worship the Lord on Sunday. One of Tony Campolos' famous sermons' is entitled "It's Friday but Sundays' coming!' If you are dreading church because of all the "religious" things associated with it and you feel dried out spiritually, perhaps you need to find a church where you do not dread having to go. If you have not yet asked Jesus to be Lord of your life and take control do that right now.
Remember the spiritual "over the hump" should be looked forward to with anticipation.
PRAYER: Lord Jesus sometimes just being closer to the weekend to relax is much anticipated. I thank you for where you have me in life. Forgive me for ever complaining. Help me shine my light for you where you have me in life. In Jesus' name. Amen.

LOVE LIKE YOU MEAN IT

Love is a great big word often thrown around casually without even truly knowing and understanding the true meaning of it. So many people love "conditionally" as is evident by the soaring divorce rates and court battles. Love is more than a feeling.
When you say you love someone, and this includes your friends and family, why not take a peek at 1 Corinthians 13. If you have your Bible handy look it up now. In verse 7 of that chapter it says 'love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things'. Now that is commitment and true love. Love does not think of itself first but puts others first.
Sometimes in life we run into people who you feel like you don't like or prefer to not be around or maybe it is someone you disagree with. Perhaps you judge this person for something they can do nothing about like the color of hair they were born with or a deformity. The point is, if you name the name of Jesus you should love like He loves. His love is "unconditional".
In Matthew 22:36-40(ESV) it says “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”
Knowing this why do so many people harbor hate and grudges? Not all people are humanly likable but we need to love like Jesus loved.This goes for your supposed "enemies" or those who have treated you with disrespect or hate. Try praying for them instead even though it is difficult and see if your heart does not feel better.
Go now and love like Jesus!
PRAYER: Lord Jesus I want to show love to everyone. Sometimes it may be hard so please help me have a heart of compassion for others. In Jesus' name. Amen.

WHO IS YOUR ANCHOR?


Ships in a harbor are often times anchored so they do not float away. The anchor is made of iron or some heavy metal and securely keeps the boat from drifting away.

In life who keeps you anchored? Is it something temporal or is Jesus your anchor? Do you occasionally "drift off course" and find yourself doing things or saying things that you know in your heart are just not right?

Hebrews 6:19-20 (NIV) says 'We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.'

Are you firmly and securely letting Jesus anchor you? Is something else "weighing" you down? Now is the time to cast off things you know will drag you off course. What is better, to be adrift in the "seas of sin" and uncertainty or to let Christ hold you in place?

PRAYER: Today Lord I choose to let you hold me firmly in place. When the seas of life try to wash me out into rough waves Lord I choose to hang on to you. In Jesus' name.Amen.

KEEP THAT HORN PUT AWAY

Have you ever been around people who like to tell others of their accomplishments or perhaps you have done it? Maybe it is an attempt to prove their worth or brag about an award or feat they achieved. Or it  might be purely unintentional. I admit I have been guilty of this and try not to. Perhaps you have the sticker on the car that says "My Child is an Honor Student". Or maybe a decal that says "26.2"? Recently I got convicted about a decal on my car and removed it. It simply said "I Served". I did not want to give the impression of boasting. Whatever it is we do is much nicer when someone else notices and praises us and not our own mouth. It is always best to try to stay humble. I feel it is something to pray for ourselves and everyone in our family.
Humility is a character trait to develop. Don't "toot your own horn" so to speak. The Bible says 'Let another praise you and not your own mouth'. Also the word of God says 'Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall' in Proverbs 16:18(NIV). Even when you do a good deed it is best not to go tell everyone. Proverbs 27:2(NIV) says '
Let someone else praise you, and not your own mouth; an outsider, and not your own lips.'

Would you rather be around someone who brags or a person who shows great interest in others? Get into the practice of trying to be interested in others.

Live for God and give Him the glory when you achieve an honor. There is nothing wrong with getting rewarded, being able to run marathons, being smart, and all sorts of other things but it is best to remember who it is who helped you achieve where you are. To God Be The Glory!

PRAYER: Forgive me Lord if I have ever "tooted my own horn". Help me to learn to take compliments graciously and to give you the glory for the wonderful things you have done. In Jesus' name. Amen.

HE'S GOT YOUR BACK

Recently I saw a tee shirt that had Jesus on it and on the back side said "He's got your back". This is a familiar phrase basically meaning "I'm right here with you and will protect you." In the award winning film "Blind Side" the actor who portrayed the future Baltimore Ravens star Michael Oher said that phrase to his adoptive mom played by actress Sandra Bullock as they walked through the inner city of Memphis. He was a very large young man and just looking at him you did not want to mess with him. He indeed "had their back".


Jesus always "has your back" and is watching you. This doesn't mean nothing bad will ever happen but that He is there taking care of you and seeing you through. When you know and believe He really does "hold the future" it makes it easier to get through some of the struggles that you may face in your lifetime.
Many readers may be familiar with the "footprints" poem where two sets of footprints were always there on the beach till the end when only one set was there in the sand. And remember the poem said something to the effect that "it was there when I carried you."
1 Peter 4:12-13(NIV) says 'Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed." James 1:2-3(KJV) says 'My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience.'
Hang on my friend as Jesus really does "have your back".
PRAYER: Today Lord I take comfort in knowing you love me even when I feel abandoned. Sometimes I feel as if my prayers fall on deaf ears so forgive me. I know you love me and I know that you are working even when I do not see results. Help me to trust. In Jesus' name. Amen.

WHAT ARE YOUR "GIANTS"?


Do you have a situation looming over you in your life that seems like it is way too big and will never go away? There is a saying "this too shall pass" but when you are in the midst of your "battle" it sure does not seem that way. During times like these it is essential you practice focusing on "things above" and to try to not dwell on that which drags you down. Problems can, and will, overwhelm you if all you do is think on them.

I loved the movie "Facing The Giants" which dealt with many issues in life that seemed humanly impossible but with God in the equation nothing was impossible. Matthew 19:26(NIV) clearly lays it out 'Jesus looked at them and said,"With man this is impossible but with God all things are possible"'. Pretty clear wouldn't you say? You have to have faith and you have to believe.

In the Bible it says in Mark 9:23(NIV) 'And Jesus said to him "If you can?All things are possible to Him who believes."' Do you have that kind of "mountain moving" faith? "But my problem is way too big and nothing is going to help." Who puts thoughts like that in your head? Not God, that is for sure.

I heard someone once say "Believe receive, doubt do without." God is way bigger than anything overwhelming we humans here on earth. Don't stop praying or believing your situation can't change.

Right now start having positive thoughts and do not allow the enemy to get you fearful or doubtful. God is a miracle working God! Believe it and keep praying!!

PRAYER: Today Lord I choose to believe and not lose hope. I choose to focus on good and not bad that cam create gloom and doom. I will seek your peace and pursue it .In Jesus' name. Amen.

WHO'S AFRAID OF THE BIG BAD WOLF?




Many of us from childhood might remember reading the nursery rhyme about "Little Red Riding Hood" and the villain in this case was the big bad wolf.  Seems like lots of these childhood stories had a bad guy in them and good always won out over evil. 

In life even though it does not seem so at times, good always trumps evil. We are not unaware of Satan's traps and schemes to bring us or our loved ones down. He indeed is a trickster and weaves his evil sinister web in order to trap unsuspecting victims. Don't be fooled. We are all susceptible  to his deceptive tactics. Just because you go to church, attend Bible study, listen to Christian radio, watch Christian television shows, attend retreats and concerts does not mean he can not try to get to you. His mission is destroying your soul and getting you to believe his lies and deny Christ.
In 1Peter 5:8(NIV Reader's Version) we are warned 'Control yourselves. Be on your guard. Your enemy the devil is like a roaring lion. He prowls around looking for someone to chew up and swallow.'  Now that, my friend, is a pretty blunt  and graphic word picture. Other places in scripture he is referred to as an "angel of light". 2 Corinthians 11:14(NIV) says 'And no wonder for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.' For any of you who have ever been to a Harvest party  at Halloween or trick or treated you dress up like someone else. Well this verse says that Satan indeed also does that. If he came to you as his despicable, lying, evil,abhorrent, deceptive mean self he would fool no one.  So therefore he is tricky and gets people on his side by getting them to believe his lies. It says in John 8:43-44(NIV) 'Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.'

We need to be I prayer for those deceived by him. Some are in vey high places of authority. Satan does not like the United States of America as we are founded as a Christian nation and lately he has worked his deception on many to try to destroy this great land. Take heart, keep praying. Don't feel like there is no hope because there is always hope!

Remember the first big lie was in the Garden of Eden when the serpent, Satan, said to Eve in Genesis 3:4(NIV) 'You will not surely die' . So right then and there it all began. The fall of man and sin entered the world. 

We have the power through the word of God to stop Satan in  his tracks by quoting scripture and not believing his lies. You may know someone who is caught in a trap of Satan who is a believer and may be deceived and walking another way away from the Lord right now. Just keep praying. God is not through with them yet. Revelation 12:11(NIV) tells us what to do. 'They triumphed over him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. They did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.' 

Who are you praying for today? Know that Satan would love you to give up on prayer.Luke 18:1 tells us to pray and not give up. God is still on the throne and weave victory in Jesus Christ!! 

PRAYER: Dear Lord Jesus I know that Satan has no authority over me. I pray for my loved ones that may have believed his lies. I pray for friends who do not know you or who are being led astray by the enemy. Lord Jesus I choose to remember to pray each and every day and put Satan in his rightful place. Jesus is Lord! In Jesus' name. Amen!

HAPPY 237th BIRTHDAY AMERICA!


Today is a day here in these United States we are to celebrate when our nation broke away from tyrannical rule of Great Britain and declared their independence. It has been a wonderful time up until people started misinterpreting the Constitution or Declaration of Independence. Presently there are some judges and leaders who forget that they work for us and have taken it upon themselves to make rules and laws, behind our backs at times, that are corrupt and unconstitutional. Our society is slowly leaving God out of the equation. The term separation of church and state has been misused as well. That was intended to keep the state from the church, not the other way around. Keep praying and do not give up on this great nation!

We in America who love our country love to fly the red, white and blue and listen to patriotic music. Service members love their country so much and freedom so much they are willing to die for it. We love fireworks and celebrations. For many these past few years have been hard as we watch freedoms we had, slowly being taken away by those in government authority intent to dominate us. We call, rally, and write but still we are ignored. What happened to "We The People"? Many are so endeared to a political party they are blind to what is actually happening. God is still on the throne, never forget that.

Psalm 47:8(NIV) says 'God reigns over the nations. God is seated on His holy throne.' When we ignore God and His word we are in danger of judgment. We need to each be familiar with the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. If you have never been able to go to the Nations' Capitol plan a trip there and see all the wonderful monuments to this glorious nation. Visit Arlington National Cemetery as well as the Vietnam Veterans Wall, Korean War Monument, World War II memorial and many others. When you see a former service member with a ball cap on that says World War II or something like that on it be sure to go up and say thanks for putting their lives on the line so we could be free.

Psalm 33:11(NIV) says 'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.' Freedom indeed can be lost when people become complacent and do not do their part in the democratic process to speak out for liberty. Bible teacher Joyce Meyer says 'If freedom is not protected it will be lost.'

PRAYER: I thank you Lord for freedom. I thank you that this nation was founded on your laws and on the Holy Bible. We pray for those who do not see dangers of tyranny on the doorstep. Father we need you and we need revival to break out from the church house to the White House. Protect those service members serving us in far off lands and here on our soil. Help us not take our freedom for granted. In Jesus' name. Amen!

IS CALM POSSIBLE?


 The answer is yes. I can imagine for folks living in a huge city such as Chicago, New York, or Los Angeles it would be hard to find a place to go to sit still and be calm. Parks are always nice.

But is calm of all sorts possible? By this I mean, in the world we live in, that is getting further away from God's word and freedom, are we able to relax and know that God is still on the throne?

It is very difficult to remain calm and centered on Christ if you make it your priority to feed your mind on the fears going on in the world. Sometimes you have to take a "news break" and instead have a "prayer and praise break".

We are told in scripture in 1 Peter 2:11(The Message version) 'Friends this world is not your home so do not make yourselves too cozy in it. Don't indulge your ego at the expense of your soul.' That is so very true. We are here on earth but for a moment it says in Hebrews 13:14(NIV). The verse reads as follows 'For here we do not have an enduring city but we are looking for the city that is yet to come.' God is going to take care of His people.

James 4:14(NASB) reminds us 'Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow.You are just a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes away.' A good verse to commit to memory to stay calm is Isaiah 26:3(NIV) which says 'You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast for they trust in you.'

The prescription for a calm spirit is to spend more time talking to God and less time letting the cares of daily life consume you.

PRAYER: Today Lord I know you are in control. I choose to not let the fear of our leaders lording over us consume me but to only trust that you are indeed on the throne and rule on high. Protect my mind from believing the lies of the enemy. In Jesus' name. Amen.

SIN IS SIN

Lately in our nation more sin has been legitimized and Christianity has
been shoved back. We who believe strongly in moral Biblical issues are called hateful and bigots. No one hates anyone but we are speaking out against objectionable things which are sins in the Bible. A rapid onset of worldliness and desensitization which has been going on for years now has the highest court in the land calling Christians awful things. It will get worse so batten down the hatches. Our Founding Fathers would be so sad and disappointed in how our courts and leaders have become. No more do they appear to be using God's word as their moral compass. We have the Bible which is not to be rewritten just to please someone who wants to make what they are doing lawful. I am sad to say we are slowly becoming a lawless society when leaders do what they want and not what people want. Do not worry readers, I am not getting political on you but we who l know, read, and study God's word know it is TRUTH. It is not changed just because we feel it is outdated.
Don't quit standing up for truth and righteous. Galatians 6:9(NIV) says 'Let us not be weary in doing good for in the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.' 1 Peter 4:12-14(NIV) says 'Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.'
Hebrews 11:25(NIV) says 'He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin.' There indeed is earthly pleasure in some sins but deep inside of each person there is a conviction or a conscious of knowing what is right and wrong. Recently those who spoke up in support of the Biblical definition of marriage were ridiculed simply for believing what the Bible says. This is going to happen more and more as we get closer to Jesus' return.
Thomas Jefferson once said 'When the people fear the government there is tyranny and when the government fears the people there is liberty.' Many fine Americans have tried to speak out and do it without any hatred yet are silenced. Especially when it comes to the area of morals. We all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory it says in Romans 3:23 but we do not just go make laws so we have no consequences for our sins. There is a consequence to all disobedience toward God that is or repented.
Today as a believer our challenge is to stay deeply rooted in God's word and to keep loving, not hating. God is the ultimate authority and has the last say so take heart.
PRAYER: Today Lord I choose you over being lawless. I commit to pray for not only my life but for those I know who are believing lies from the pit of hell. I pray Lord for our country. I pray that as we approach the 4th of July freedom will continue to ring. In Jesus' name.Amen.
