HELP ME!!.BUT GOD!!

Sometimes we wonder why we have to go through certain things. Somehow many think once you accept Christ you will have no more problems. Problems are what make us strong. No one likes to go through anything. Note the word 'through' indicating you will come out on the other side. Do you ever feel like God is not listening to you and wonder how much more you can take? It says in James 1:3 " Because  you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance." "But why God? I can't take much more! Help me!" you might exclaim.

God uses all things in our life to shape our character. He does not cause bad stuff to happen but he uses it for good to mold you into a child of God. Most of us are familiar with the verse in Romans 8:28 which says "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Now mind you it is not recommended to approach a friend going through a terrible situation with this verse right on the spot. I have heard of altar calls at funerals where the deceased family uses a death as an opportunity to let others accept Christ.

1 Peter 1:7 carries this theme of trials further when it says "These have come so that your faith--of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire--may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed."

Why is it people have a tendency to get mad at God when things go bad or the worse case scenario, when someone dies? It seems it is always God's fault. Everyone is going to die someday. People do not see God's big picture at times and just want to blame Him for after all "He is God and He could have stopped it". In John 11:21 Martha got mad at Jesus and she said "Lord," Martha said to Jesus, "if you had been here, my brother would not have died." There we go again. God is the fall guy.

James 1:12 tells us "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him." Can you hang in there through the storms and uncertainties of life knowing God knows the 'end of the story'?

           God is able to redeem your life from a pit. He is able to comfort you when no one else can. Ephesians 3:20 says " Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us." We are the potter and He is the clay and he forms us and shapes us through all sorts of things. Jeremiah 18:6 says "O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel."

In the movie 'To Save A Life' ,a young man has a bunch of bad stuff happen after he decides to follow the Lord. He has lived a reckless life in high school and hurt people and some of the things has done come back to haunt him. But in the end it is a story of healing and redemption. Rent the movie and see it for a story of hope and promise.

So where are you at? Do you place blame on God when things do not always go your way? Stop today and turn your scars into stars for the Lord and ask Him to forgive you if you have hardened your heart against Him and blamed Him for calamity in your life. He can heal, restore, redeem and set free so why not let Him?

PRAYER: Father in heaven I thank you for each thing in my life which I know helps to mold and shape me to be more like you. Even though it is painful sometimes I know when I hang on things will be better. Help me to trust you and turn to you for things I do not understand. You are God after all. I thank you for loving me and having a plan for my life. In Jesus Name. Amen.

LOOK FOR GOD'S PURPOSE IN YOUR NEXT INTERRUPTION

There may be a time in your life when something did not go as you would have hoped but eventually turned out greater. God has a plan and sometimes it includes changing our plans, or interruptions. Maybe you can look back on times you were fretting and concerned and in the long run what you were so worried about turned out great. God changed your path and ultimately lets' say you met your future spouse. There is always a reason although we may not see it at that time.

I think of the movie 'The Adjustment Bureau', not a Christian film, but a thought provoking one never the less. In the movie Matt Damon's character was a rising politician who had a 'chance' meeting in NYC with a professional dancer who was not part of his 'plan'. The 'adjustment bureau' were men sent by 'whoever' to try to keep him away from her as it would wreck the ultimate plan for not only his life as a politician but her life as a professional dancer. We know this is Hollywood and not from the Bible but the point sort of was made that each of us has some sort of destiny or as I say it "God has a Purpose".

 The Bible says in Jeremiah 29:11 " For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future". In Proverbs 19:21 it says "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails."  We can plan a course for our life but before we set out we need to always pray about our decisions.


Proverbs 16:9 tells us "In his heart a man plans his course, but the LORD determines his steps." 

So wherever you are today be thankful and if it seems wrong just pray and ask God what He has for you and seek to be patient in the process of where He is taking you to.

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for the fact that I know you have a plan and purpose for my life. Forgive me for the times I have tried to manipulate things to change the outcome. Help me trust you for what is best and be at peace. In Jesus Name. Amen,.

PUT DOWN THAT HORN!

Do you feel pretty good about yourself and your accomplishments? Maybe you have been to fine schools, have awesome degrees, make lots of money, a wonderful job title, or have received many awards. Perhaps you are in tight circles with important people. Maybe you have done things  that are 'off the charts'. Still God wants us to be humble and not 'toot our own horn'.

The Bible says the humble will be exalted and let another praise you and not your own mouth. Bragging or boasting  is mentioned many times in the word of God. It is tempting to want to prove to someone what you have done, who you may know, and how much you make. It is human nature to a 'proud nature' at times especially as a parent. But we are to have 'God's nature''.

The real mark of a Godly person is to be able to let your virtues speak for themselves and not think you are anyone special. We all have differing gifts and talents. If you feel you are on the braggy side ask God to help you be humble and not prove things to people by boasting.

Proverbs 27:2 says "Let another praise you and not your own mouth, someone else and not your own lips."  There is nothing to be gained by letting everyone know every wonderful thing you have ever done. God knows and that is all that matters.

Proverbs 25:27 says " It is not good to eat too much honey nor is it good to seek one's own honor". If you receive accolades give the glory to God for it is only through him you have your abilities, skills, gifts, and brains. You may think "But wait I did this on my own". Watch out for you may be brought low with that kind of attitude. A humble person is much more pleasant to be around.

Matthew 23:12 says "For whoever exalts himself will be humbled and whoever humbles himself will be exalted."

Where are you at? Perhaps you are on the other end of envy of others. That too is wrong for each of us has differing gifts. Bloom for Jesus where he plants you, be content,  and give God the glory for your successes. In Deuteronomy 8:18 it reminds us it is God who gives the power to get wealth. Serve Him with the abilities he has given you.

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for what you are doing in and through me. Help me never envy others and be thankful for exactly where you have me. Lord I thank you for what you can do through my life. Forgive me if i have ever become proud. In Jesus name. Amen.

LITTLE MARY SUNSHINE OR OSCAR THE GROUCH??

When people talk about you would they tend to think of you more as a delightful joy to be around or a 'Little Mary (or Harry) Sunshine or a 'Oscar the Grouch' type constantly being ugly and temperamental? Ponder that for a while. Most of us probably think we are okay but is your demeanor reflective of joy, peace, happiness and love or criticism, judgment, evil and hatred? When people talk about you do you think it is in the positive or negative?

How do you respond to waiters, store clerks, telemarketers, and those that may rub you the wrong way? Do you spout off or do you stay under control treating all people with respect? Do you speak to your spouse the same way you did when you were dating or treat them ugly and vindictive? On the road driving, do you cut people off and angrily look out the window at them as you pass by?When things do not go your way do you respond with grace or do you lose control? It is clear that as a believer we need to have our emotions under control and if the area of words and anger is a problem to ask God to help deliver you from bring mean and hurtful. When you speak to someone it should be with kindness and love. It is so easy to get in an argument. It is a bigger person who finds a way to walk away and stop it . Proverbs 16:32 says "Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city." James 1:20 says "Man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires."

 We are to be Christlike and to do that we need to be trying to show Christlike qualities. These would be love, caring, sharing, selflessness, humility, joy, and forgiveness to name a few. Does your life reflect these both out in the 'marketplace' and in your own home? We are to treat members of our own family as better than outside world but the stories you hear often on the news of family violence do not reflect this. In Psalm 101:2 it says "I will behave myself wisely in a perfect way. O when wilt thou come unto me? I will walk within my house with a perfect heart."

James 1:19 could apply to all of life and communication but I have mentioned before it is a good one for newlyweds to commit to memory and live by. It says "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry". Ephesians 4:29 says " Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." Proverbs 17:1 says "Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife."

So whether you are out in the community, at work or especially at home  you need to tame the anger and the tongue. Make believe you are Jesus and let's say a clerk is rude to you. The saying 'What Would Jesus Do' is a good one to really ponder. What would he do? Try to be like Little Mary Sunshine and let the Oscar the Grouch personality have a rest.

Proverbs 12:16 says "A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a prudent man overlooks an insult ".

PRAYER: Father it is my desire to treat all people with kindness, love, and respect. Show me where I need work in this area. Help me when I feel like getting mad to stop and pray. Forgive me if I have ever hurt anyone by my words or actions. In Jesus Name. Amen.

LIGHT A CANDLE OR CURSE THE DARKNESS

It is necessary to take a stand for righteousness.  Do not be so overly off the deep end that you do not try to impact a company, community  or a person who many may think is beyond hope. By this I mean you can do more than scream at them about how bad they are and how they are hurting society. Take Hollywood for instance. Master Media International Ministry  is working one actor, one director, one film executive at a time, behind the scenes, to impact Hollywood and New York City for  Christ. Truck Stop Ministries Inc has reached out to semi drivers across the nation since 1981. With the temptations of the road this is an excellent outreach to these mostly male drivers. 

Even on shows like American Idol you have had your Christian missionaries of sorts who are permeating the darkness of Hollywood by singing their Christian songs. Some Miss America's in the past have been outspoken for Christ and thus have taken His message with them as they wear the Miss America crown for the year they serve .


 Personally I would not feel comfortable saying it is okay to go in a strip club to win people to Christ because the situation may tempt you but I know there are ministries trying to get girls off the streets who are caught in prostitution and I also heard once of a group of women who stood in front of a gentleman's club passing out cookies with their children and supposedly were instrumental in closing this business down. Perhaps the men were too convicted that what they were doing was wrong and degraded women.

Several companies today support agendas that are go against the word of God. You can take a stand against them and not support them with your hard earned money is one way and follow it by writing a loving letter saying why or you can try to possibly influence someone for the good. Notice I used the word 'loving'. Condemnation and hatred are not good witnessing tools normally.

We have to go into the world to make an impact on the world. Staying in Holy huddles will not help spread the love of God. I am not condoning witnessing in strip clubs mind you as you need to use wisdom and discernment to know where to go to make an impact for Christ. With Master Media, even though we may not agree with most of what comes out of Hollywood, instead of condemning all of it, this ministry tries to do friendship evangelism, to change the hearts first then possibly the product will follow.

Usually anger and ugliness is not going to change someone but showing love , grace, and compassion will. It is okay to take a stand, do not get me wrong, but you have to win others by lighting a candle so to speak.  Cursing the darkness may turn some off and not show God's love to those you are trying to win. Above all remember to pray.

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 says "Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To  the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings." Never compromise yourself morally or go against God's word in trying to reach the lost.


PRAYER: Lord use me to make a difference in the world around me. Give me course to speak up in love against things immoral or sinful in order to make a positive change. Help me be guided by your love. In Jesus name. Amen.

IN GODS' LIKENESS

 Does your life reflect Christ? Do you set a good example for the kingdom of God? Would people know by your actions that you love the Lord? Are you sold out to him or are you simply a 'casual Christian' who does not get too serious other than punching a church attendance card on Sunday? The saying goes " if you were arrested for being a Christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?"  Do you find the Christian life boring or useless and simply think being a once a week Christian is enough?

Being a Christian means more than attendance at church on Sunday. It means trying to reflect Christ in your day to day life. When you leave church on Sunday you should leave convicted and different with a desire to get into the Bible to lead a life pleasing to Him. You should be different when you leave with a hunger to study and know more. A exit sign out of the parking lot at a local church here reads 'You Are Now Entering The Mission Field'. Your community is your mission field. Is your life reflective of a missionary?

1 Peter 2:9 says "but you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into the marvelous light."

Do you desire a closer walk with the Lord or are you satisfied with just coasting along leading two lives?  One is your Sunday life and the other is anything goes way of life. A believer should not be leading a double life.  Don't be a 'secret service' Christian. Being excited about Jesus and wanting to be more Christlike does not mean sitting in a lotus position singing Kum Ba Yah. It is an active lifestyle seeking to know Him better and seeking to lead others to Him through your words and your actions. Being holier than thou and condemning will not win people to Christ.  Remember Romans 3:23 reminds us "all have sinned."

Where are you today in your likeness to Christ? Does your attitude reflect His presence in your life? Love should be what you strive for. 1 Peter 4:8 says " above all love each other deeply as love covers a multitude of sin." 1 John 2:6 tells us "whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way he walked."  1 Corinthians 11:1 says " Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." Think about that when it comes to how you treat all people. Do you reflect his love?

Start today and seek to be like Christ in your every day life.

PRAYER: Father thank you for your word,the Bible, which is my handbook for how to be more like you. Forgive me if I let it gather dust or read other things more than it. I need more of you in my life starting today! In Jesus Name. Amen.

CONFESS AND REPENT

When we have done something wrong or sinful, in our time of prayer we need to confess that to God or else our line of communication for prayers will become muddled and disconnected.

Confess means to say you did something wrong and repent is a turning away and running from that sin. Get away from what is dragging you down and keeping you from a closer walk with Jesus. Inside of everyone is a little voice, the Holy Spirit, convicting us of what is wrong. Some choose to go their own way foolishly ignoring that conviction of sin. Scripture says "there is a way that seems right to a man but in the end is death."( Proverbs 14:12).

Psalm 66:18 tells us "If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened". This verse speaks loud and clear. If you are hanging on to some sin, and cherishing it, then the prayers  you utter may be falling on deaf ears. You can not sin willfully and expect God to just say "Well okay".

We all have sinned. (See Romans 3:23). Sin is sin, period! Do not start feeling you are better because your sin "is not as bad as his sin". Watch out having a haughty attitude like that. Pray that you not be led into temptation in the first place. (Mark 14:38). We all will mess up sometime in our lives and God is there ready to listen to your prayers and your cry for forgiveness. Proverbs 28:13 says "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy." Here once again we see that if we are intentionally hiding sin then we lose communication with God.

 Running the race to win includes running away from things that so easily beset us as scripture says in Hebrews 12:1. Turn away, ask God to forgive you, then if necessary do a lifestyle change or a friend change to get away from what is pulling you down. 1 Corinthians 15:33 says "wicked friends lead to evil."

It is hard in the world we live in as we are bombarded by so much and even our own government, which was originally set up using the Bible as a guide, has turned its back on some sins and made them acceptable and penalizes those who do not agree or accept them. I am referring to same sex marriage and abortion. God will not continue to bring his blessings on this land unless we turn away from sin and turn back to Him. Many within the church turn a deaf ear to sins they feel are 'okay'.

2 Chronicles 7:14 says "if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven will forgive their sin and heal their land."

It is time in our personal life that we ask God to give us strength to stay on his path and turn away from influences that tear us away from Him.

 PRAYER: Lord I am sorry when I do things I know does not please you. Even things as simple as gossip, small 'white lies', judging others, holding resentment or anger in my heart, are all not pleasing to you. I choose this day to stay on the path of godliness and I pray for those in my family not listening to you to recognize it and run from evil. Help me be a good witness for you and be alert to sin. In Jesus Name.Amen.

SATURATED, BUT BY WHAT??

To saturate means to soak up with something. If you fall in a lake your clothes are saturated with water. When you go work out you get saturated by perspiration. But what is your mind saturated with or by? Yes your mind is like a sponge of sorts too. You can put things in it to help you or to hurt you. Basically it is your choice. You need to think on good things.

When you get up in the morning is the first thing you think to do grabbing the newspaper from the driveway or turning  on morning television talk shows? Neither the paper nor these shows will add anything very valuable to your life. You may say  you have to stay informed of current events, but likewise you 'saturate' your mind with needless facts about celebrities, controversies, killings and a myriad of other things that really do nothing to make your day better. Sometimes a constant 'diet' of even seemingly  good things like talk radio can drag us down and get us gloomy. The best thing to stay saturated with is God's word but to be saturated you have to pick it up and then open it up. You need to plan to start your day with God.

Philippians 2:5 says "Let this mind be in you which is in Christ Jesus."  You may think you have to 'keep up' with what is going on and use that as an excuse to read the paper before you would even think to read the Bible. This world is going to one day fade away. Only what is done for Christ will last. If you are a believer how do you stay 'armed and ready' to meet the challenges of life without knowing what is in the Bible to help you on this daily journey?

Romans 12:2 tells us " Do not conform anymore to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you will be able to rest and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Are you saturated more by Jesus or this world you live in? To grow in Christ you have to make a point to 'soak up' his word on a daily basis. It is what you need to stay uplifted and win the battles Satan will throw at you.

Philippians 4:8 says "Finally brothers and sisters whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable-if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things." Make today the day you start to put God first. Discipline yourself to put God before the things in the world that draw you away.

PRAYER: Father I thank you for the word of God which here in America we freely have access to. I thank you for in it are the answers to issues in life. I know when I ignore you and your word Satan is jumping for joy as I can not be strong without staying in  your word. Help me Lord to put you first. In Jesus Name. Amen.

Idea: Start with the book of Proverbs and read the chapter that corresponds with whatever day it is. There are 31 chapters so this works out great.

LIFE COMES TO THIS....DEATH

This past Saturday, pop icon Whitney Houston, was laid to rest after an untimely death at an early age, which stunned her many fans. Throngs of her adoring fans stood with signs, pictures, balloons, and flowers outside the  Baptist church in Newark, New Jersey where her funeral was held.

Famous people seem to get a better break at funerals. Lots of folks there, many news stories at no charge to them, and non stop talk of the wonderful life they led. Everyone seems to be great  at the end so it seems.

The indisputable fact of life is we all will die. Many people live like there is no consequence and atheists laugh off the after life or heaven and hell. Guess what? You will either go to heaven or you will go to hell whether you believe the Bible or not. Period. End of story. Why chance it? Your life could end today in a head on crash, a heart attack, a stroke, an unexpected illness, or a myriad of other things. No one knows when. Young people die, babies die, celebrities die in their forties like Miss Houston, and people die late in life. Nobody can predict it. This could be your last day on earth. We are all valuable to God whether we are a platinum album singer, bank president, business leader, politician, teacher, homeless man  or factory worker. There is not some social class to get into heaven. It boils down to have you asked Jesus into your life.

Do you know if you were to take your last breath you would spend eternity in heaven?  I did not say "are you a good person" or "are you a church member" or "have you worked on lots of church committees" or "have you gone to Sunday School class" or "are you baptized"  but do you know Jesus as your saviour and has your life been lived for Him? Does your life reflect Him?

Is your life ready for a 'Home Going' to heaven? Are you sure? We can not assume just because we were in church every Sunday that is what is required. People who have rejected Jesus during their life will not be with Him in heaven but it is never too late to ask Him into your heart.

1 Timothy 2:4 says "who wants everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth." Ezekiel 18:23 says "do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather am I not pleased when they turn from their wicked ways and live?" James 4:13-15 says "Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

Psalm 90:12 tells us "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." Do not live like death will never come because believe me it will and it may catch you off guard. But guess what, once you are dead you can not decide to accept Christ. Ecclesiastes 7:2 says "It is better to go to a house of mourning than to go to a house of feasting, for death is the destiny of every man; the living should take this to heart."


 I can not imagine someone not wanting to be sure they are going to heaven. In Romans 3:23 it says "All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory." Acts 3:19 says "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord". Repent means to turn away from. When you know something is wrong do not keep doing it. Ask God to help you. He is ready to save. Give your heart to Him today.

PRAYER: Father I know my days are numbered here on this earth. Help me to make a difference for the kingdom of God during the short time I am here. Help me to not get caught up in the craziness and sinfulness of the world but to be set apart for the work of Christ and let me leave an imprint for you when I leave this earth. In Jesus Name. Amen.

PRESIDENT OR KING OF KINGS??

Today in the USA we celebrate Presidents Day which is a combined holiday of both Washington and Lincoln's birthdays. These were first celebrated on their own separate days until several years ago. Initially it was celebrating our First Presidents Birthday, George Washington, then changed to make it for both Washington and Lincoln since they were both born in February. So the name does not necessarily imply every single president but was the initial intent to celebrate our nations 1st President George Washington only.

At this time, because of the name being in the plural form, we may think this day honors all of our presidents as well. We may have a president of the US in this currently independent and democratic country who is called the leader of the free world, but the ultimate leader in charge of even the President of the United States, is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ. Ultimately  all power is given from God and he allows men or women to be in authority for his purposes. This  does not necessarily mean it will be godly leader or a fair leader, but God is the one who is in charge of promotion and allowing this person to be there for His purposes. God will take care of evil rulers in the end. He has the final say. Man may try to build up his own little powerful earthly kingdom and can leave God out of the equation for the time being, even misusing scriptures for his own gain, but look out! He may try to lord over people and put them in bondage. This arrogance and egotism will not stand in the end.

Businesses used to close on George Washington's birthday and other holidays like Veterans Day, Columbus Day and Memorial Day, but now stores use them as an opportunity to have sales. All  honor and respect due this holiday is largely lost and a new generation grows up unaware of the true meaning unless their parents choose to teach them. Respect and honor for this special day seemingly have gone by the wayside. Formerly it was a day of remembering, not shopping. This holidays' intent when it was celebrated as  Washington's Birthday was to honor the 'father of our country' and his accomplishments. Indeed we have lost the honor and respect due to these holidays and now they are nothing more than days with no mail, going to the lake, shopping, seeing the latest movie and noting the day on a calendar. Respect is long gone.

What does it mean to show honor and respect?  We can choose to bring honor and respect back and to teach the younger generation these valuable traits which used to be taught in our public schools in addition to the home.  Honor is showing reverence and holding someone in high esteem. Jesus is the one we are supposed to show ultimate honor to.  George Washington's prayer at Valley Forge was "I consider it an indispensable duty to close this last solemn act of my official life by commending the interests of our dearest country to the protection of Almighty God and those who have the superintendence of them into His holy keeping." George Washington was a true man of God regardless of what people do to rewrite history and deny that fact.

1 Timothy 1:17 says "now to the king eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever Amen." Romans 11:36 says "for from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever, Amen!"

Do you pay the ultimate honor to the king of kings? Let's start today to lift Jesus higher than mere man of the world. Jesus is the one on the throne who deserves our true allegiance, honor, and respect. No one should ever exalt man over God. Philippians 2:10 says "That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth." Our hope is not in a mere man but hope is only in the Lord God Almighty!!

Psalm 103:19 says "The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything there is."

PRAYER: All hail the power of your name Lord Jesus. You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. It is only through you power comes. We pray for our leaders to follow you and listen to your voice. We pray for good to overcome evil. Help us to show honor to you Lord and to remember to pray for our earthly leaders per your command in scripture. In Jesus Name, Amen.

JOY NO MATTER WHAT

What exactly is joy and how do you maintain it when your world is crumbling around you? How do you feel joy in the midst of devastating news? How do you feel joy when friends desert you?

It is easy to feel joy when things are going right but when your world tumbles down around you it is a whole new thing. The main thing is keeping the right focus and not dwelling on the negative. If you constantly get down into that pity pit or keep thinking of worse case scenarios then of course it will be hard to feel joy. The word 'feel' is key in this. Do not let feelings rule your world because they are so changeable.

The best way to have joy is to stay focused on the word of God. If you are feeling down in the dumps certainly dwelling on bad news is not the cure for lifting your spirits to a higher level.

 Joy is described as intense happiness but it is not or should not be dependent upon your circumstances. It can be achieved by keeping your mind on God's word. Dwelling on things such as the 'what ifs' of life and speculating on things can create doubt and worry and thus be 'joy robbers'. People in your life may be hurtful and try to be a 'joy robber' but you can be victorious and overcome this.

The word joy can also be an acronym for Jesus First, Others second, Yourself last. If you can try to live this way, remembering the J.O.Y. Acronym, then life will be better. Helping others and taking your mind off yourself is always an effective remedy.

James 1:2-3 says "Count it all joy when you fall into various trials ,knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience."

 "Are you kidding? You want me to be joyful in my trials? Are you some kind of nut? " The Bible says to and that is good enough for me. If you are a believer rejoice that you will be in heaven with Jesus. (See Luke 10:20).

John 15:11 says "I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete."

Just remember that 'Jesus loves you this I know for the Bible tells me so.'

PRAYER: Lord I thank you for being with me in good times and in not so good times. Help me as I seek to focus on your word and fill my life with your joy despite any negative circumstances. In Jesus name. Amen!

Mediate on God's word and search the scriptures daily. The enemy, Satan, is the father of lies and can even deceive well meaning Christians into believing a lie.(See Colossians 2:8). Be on your guard because he prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may destroy. (See 1 Peter 5:8).

Do not let others steal your joy. Do not  allow the lies of the enemy to defeat you. Get up and say these things above OUT LOUD. Try it you might like it.

PRAYER:  This is your day Lord and I will get up and rejoice and say thank you. I ask your help in letting me treat all people with kindness and respect. Let me shine your love into every corner of the world you place me in. In Jesus name. Amen.

TREAT OTHERS NICE ALL THE TIME

"Always try to be kind to each other and to everyone else. Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:15-18).

This verse above does not give us a way of escape as a believer. "Well you should have seen what they did to me!" or " How do you expect me to forgive and be kind when they went behind my back and did that!" Perhaps the comment is " I told you not to do that and you did anyway." All these comments fuel fires and keep anger going and fulling burning. If you call yourself a Christian and display unforgiveness or anger in your heart and can not seem to let go of an offense committed then perhaps it is time to see if you really are abiding by the words that are in the Bible. There are no escape clauses that say "It is okay to treat the person bad if they did such and such." Or there is nothing in the Bible that says "That person deserves this because they knew better and did it anyway."  There is nothing that says" How can I be joyful. I do not feel like it!' No brother and sister in Christ, this verse means what it says. It says to be kind to one another and to be joyful not vindictive and hateful and paying people back. If you claim to be a Christian you need to be walking in love and able to forgive, move on, and let go, NO MATTER WHAT!

Perhaps you are the one who offended some brother in Christ be it a friend or family member and this person is certainly not appearing to be walking in love because they can not let go of an offense and they just continue being ugly to you. It is very hard to react in love if you are the recipient of cruel, hateful words and treatment. But God says to forgive. Some people who call themselves Christians act pretty darn ugly and should know better, but until the Holy Spirit does a work in their heart you need to give them over to God. Only through the Holy Spirits conviction and power is this individual going to change. In Matthew 18:21-22 says "Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."

Some of those who talk ugly may  not even read devotions or get into their Bible. But even some who do may  not put it into practice. Seemingly it is falling on deaf ears. You do your part and let God work in their hearts. All you can do is to continue to pray and respond with grace to someone who is being mean to you. Luke 18:1 tells us "To pray and never give up". Keep on believing and praying .God has a plan and he can set people free and deliver them. Keep believing.

PRAYER: Father help me to never be mean to people but if I have been convict me and help me to seek forgiveness. If this person chooses to stay acting bad towards me help me to not lash back in anger but to calmly walk away and give them to God. I want to be Christlike in all I say and do. In Jesus Name. Amen.

The scriptures say in 1 Peter 1:16 "Be holy as I am holy".   If you practice saying the list above out loud you will start to have a better outlook on life. No matter what is going on in life you can have victory through Jesus Christ. Stay in his word and the truth will set you free! Jesus is Lord!!

The point is to mentally remind yourself not only of the Ten Commandments, found in Exodus 20, which help you stay on the right path in life but to have these little 'to do' items in your brain as reminders of how to be Christlike. Do not get in a trap set by the enemy where you feel worthless and of no value. Each and every day set out and stay focused on what you can do to show Jesus love to those around you. Do not let situations or other people rob you of your God given joy!

1 Corinthians 15:57 says "But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!"

PRAYER: Lord make me a light in a dark world. Where there is hopelessness let me show the hope of Jesus. Where there is darkness let use me to shine your light. Where there is hate let me show love. I purpose to focus on ways to be Christlike to all those people you place in my path. In Jesus name. Amen!

BE STILL LITTLE MOUTH

The little tongue in our mouth works for good or bad. The mouth and mind have to work together to learn when to speak and when to be silent. Words can be spoken when they should have been left unsaid. Learning to speak courteously, honorably, with love, with purity, thoughtfully, and with a purpose takes patience and self control. Every time we feel like talking we should not necessarily talk. Some people speak and are misunderstood and hurt people. It sure is hard to tame the tongue.(See James Chapter 3). Our mind thinks things and we may just blurt out something. If you have this problem ask God to give you self control, discernment, wisdom, and patience. It is Not always necessary to talk.

Many Bible verses deal with this. James 1:19 says "My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this, everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to get angry." Proverbs 10:19 says "Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues." Proverbs 14:29 says "whoever is patient has great understanding but one who is quick tempered displays folly." In Proverbs 29:20 it says " Do you see someone who speaks in haste? There is more hope for a fool than for them" and finally in James 4:11 it says "Brothers and sisters do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against a brother or sister or judges them speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law you are not keeping it but sitting in judgment on it."

If you have been the recipient of spoken words that have hurt be a big enough person to accept an apology from the offender instead of dwelling on a mistake. Fueling the fire only keeps  arguments going. Put out the fire now and move on. Unforgiveness does not bring glory to God. If anyone does not offend with their mouth they are a perfect man. I do not think I have heard of any perfect person except Jesus.
Stop right now, take a breath, and think before you overreact or say words that can not be taken back. You will feel better in the long run and bring more honor to God. If you have been hurt by words give the person grace and move on. Jesus forgives and we should too.

If you have harsh mean people in your life who do not want to extend forgiveness give them to God. Let him heal wounded angry hearts.

PRAYER: Lord forgive me for the times I have not stopped to think how my words are going to be received or how they will affect the hearer.  I do not intentionally want to hurt anyone so give me self control when speaking. Help me know when to speak and when to be silent. In Jesus name. Amen!

LOVE..WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?

Valentines Day! What better time to talk about love,what it is and what it isn't. Many do not choose to celebrate this day as it is a forced day of intimacy created by card companies,but it gives an opportunity for preachers to preach on love and people like me to write something on it. Singles dread this day as in many cases they feel left out more aware of their singleness. Love is about loving friends and family too. So look at it that way as well.

Love is not what you see in Hollywood movies. Love is a commitment. Love is being there no matter what. If you listen to the wedding vows of a traditional wedding it will say "For better or for worse, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer , forsaking all others, til death do us part." There are some marriage ceremonies who leave out that part. But marriage between a man and a woman is a sacred and holy event not to be taken lightly and a commitment to be kept.
Love also is not just a feeling. Feelings come and go. Love is about honor, protecting, putting the other person before yourself, and forgetting about yourself. Love is giving not taking. You may not always feel in love but sometimes love is a choice.  Love learns to turn the other cheek and not pick fights. Love is kind and thinks of other people first. Love is not rude or demanding.

A perfect way to describe love and to see if you have love is to read 1 Corinthians 13 which is known as 'The Love Chapter' in the Bible and it in its' entirety says "If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."

I like the part in verse 5 where it says "love does not keep a record of wrongs" as one of the quickest ways to kill love is to always be bringing up the past and mistakes instead of forgetting about them. God forgives and forgets and we too are to be like Him and do likewise. Even loving a friend you learn to not dwell on their faults and mistakes.

Love is the greatest virtue to strive for. Colossians 3:14 says "Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony." Love is not just mushy  stuff but it is truly wanting to show another person that they are first. Every day should be Valentines Day!
PRAYER: Lord it is my desire to display Christlike love to all those people in my life. In Jesus name. Amen.

STICK YOUR NOSE IN GOD'S BUSINESS, NOT OTHERS

Have you ever thought of a majority of life's problems stem from sticking your nose in others business? No really, think about it. Why do we have to know everything?  If we are not careful, for those of us on Facebook, it can get to be an addiction to see what all of our friends are doing then to feel left out if we are not included. The idea is people need to keep their noses in life in their own business.2 Thessalonians 3:11 says "We hear that some among you are idle. They are not busy; they are busybodies." 1 Timothy 5:13 says "Besides, they get into the habit of being idle and going about from house to house. And not only do they become idlers, but also gossips and busybodies, saying things they ought not to."

Sometimes when we meddle we also end up standing in judgment over someone. That is not our job. We are not God. Matthew 7:3-5 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?  You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

 I have a better idea. Instead of wondering what celebrities are doing and turning on the news each night or reading the paper first thing each day  or bugging our adult children or reading about what all your friends are doing, why not get into 'God's Business' ,which would be reading the Bible. If we spent more time in the word of God and less doing the other things we waste our time on we would have less heartache and problems in life. Let's make a point to 'pry' into God's life and not others lives or at least exercise some self control over it. You will really get much more out of it and have less things to worry about if you try this new technique. And it will no doubt produce a closer relationship with your loved ones in the long run.

True peace comes when you keep your mind on your own affairs and not be thinking you have to be privy to the details of others lives. Do you want peace and true joy? Then try letting go of your need to know it all and try to focus on knowing more about God.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 says "Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you." When you meddle and find out things you should not have known anyway it can breed quarrels. Proverbs 17:14 says "Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out." To stop a matter keep your nose in your own business. 1 Peter 4:15 says "If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler." A meddler is listed there as not a good thing mentioned alongside a criminal and thief.

Try to focus on God and His business. Philippians 1:27 says "Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel." Your desire should be for seeking God with your whole heart. Philippians 3:10 says "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death". If you could make that your life's desire to know Him just imagine how your life would change. If you could focus on Him and not all your worries and concerns life would be much better.

Sometimes being nosy can separate friends or family members. Better to live life and keep your nose in your own business. If someone needs you to know something they will tell you. For sure this is a discipline especially for those with inquiring minds. You know the tabloid commercial that says "Inquiring Minds Want To Know! I Want to Know!" Well trust me you do not always need to know. Trust God to reveal things to you in His time.

PRAYER: Lord God I want to know you better. When I get into the habit of thinking I need to know more of what is going on around me and tend to lean on nosy side help me to run to you and your word and focus on the truths in the Bible. In Jesus Name. Amen.

THE TO-DO LIST

You get up in the morning and most likely if not going to a job still have many jobs to perform  and have a 'to do' list to follow. Does this 'to do' list include  having a quiet time with God and praying? If not why not? If you want to grow in Christ and not just be a 'Sunday Christian'  or a church member then you need to make some sort of effort to get to know the Lord. Being a Christian and following Christ is not just about being 'religious' as some think, nor is it about going to church. It is about knowing the Lord and wanting to spend time with Him. You should not plan your day without also writing down 'start the day with the Lord.'

Did you know scripture tells us to "Search the scriptures" (see John 5:39) and also to"teach them to our children?" Deuteronomy 6:6-8 tells us "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates". When you do not make time in your day for growing close to the Lord that means you are allowing the cultures thoughts into your mind instead of God's word. Many today are believing lies and justifying sin primarily because they either choose to not believe the Bible or because they listen to the worldly secular news more than the truth in God's word. Be careful as Satan can deceive you and take you captive. 2 Corinthians 2:11 says "so that Satan will not outsmart us. For we are familiar with his evil schemes." Satan can get you to believe lies and water down God's word. Do not allow that to happen!

What changes do you need to make in your daily schedule to allow Christ to have first place in your schedule? If you do not desire his word perhaps your love for him has grown cold.  Do not allow the worlds way of thinking to squeeze out the truth of God. 2 Timothy 3:15 says "and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus." Parents have a big responsibility to not just feed and clothe their newborn, but to be reading God's word to them even as they lie in the cradle. 

"Thy word is a lamp unto my path and a light unto my path".(Psalm 119:105). Right now take a moment and write down your schedule for the day and make sure you put 'Read the Bible' and 'Pray' on there. If you do not know where to begin why not start with the book of John or Psalms. Desire Gods' word more than gold. In Psalm 19:9-10 it says "The fear of the Lord is pure,enduring forever.The ordinances of the Lord are sure and altogether righteous. They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;they are sweeter than honey,than honey from the comb. By them is your servant warned." Another good verse is Psalm 119:72 which says "The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of pieces of silver and gold." Do you find God's word more precious than anything? It has everything you need to get you through each and every day if only you would make time to put Him in your day.

Deuteronomy 6:5 commands us to "Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Do you? Really? Then let Him know by making him first priority and spending time in the word each day. If you love a person you want to be with them. Likewise if you love the Lord you want to get to know Him by reading the Bible. Start today and put God first!

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for the Bible. I am grateful to live in a country where I can read it freely without being arrested. Help me to not take it for granted and to find it and dust it off and start learning how to defeat the enemy. Give me the desire to do this and do it daily I will resist the devil and he has to flee according to James 4:7. In Jesus name. Amen.

GRACE

God is great. He forgives and moves on. People have a hard time forgiving and forgetting. Some people even who claim to love Jesus can not seem to show love and grace to those who messed up but say they forgive but then shut them out of their life. Doesn't sound like the grace God gives. If you say you are a Christian then you need to learn to live and love like Jesus. Holding grudges will not cut it. We are talking love and total forgiveness. What if God said, "well I would  forgive you but you did it so many times so I am sorry but I can't"! Well good news. God is not like people,thank goodness! Even those people who have messed up in the ultimate way of ending up in jail deserve to have God's grace. Even someone who has murdered can be forgiven. God is like that, yes He is!

Why can't we humans follow his lead? We make up our own little rules for who we accept and who we shun. God does not say," I can not take the way you act or your personality! Leave me alone!" Now that may seem funny to think of God talking that way because He never would. I am trying to make a point. God forgives so we too should be like Him and forgive and show grace to those people.

Romans 3:23 reminds us "We all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory". Yes each and every one of us. "Come on down"! If you think well I am not that bad or my sin is not that bad well think again. No categories of sin to God. Sure some have worse consequences but it is still sin. Who are we to play God and decide who deserves His love. He loves all of us even the most vile person who turns their back on Him which many do today. We might just start to think we are pretty good. Look out for that type of haughty attitude as your downfall may be waiting around the corner.

In 1 John 4:20 it says "If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen." When you are hateful and condemning and putting people down you are certainly not showing the love of Christ. In John 8:7 it says "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

Are you able to show God's live to everyone and be kind and a salt shaker for Christ? If not ask the Lord to come in and change your heart.

PRAYER: Lord I want to be more like you and be willing to not stand in judgment over those who have fallen short because we all have. I know you extend grace so help me learn to do the same. In Jesus Name. Amen.

EVERY KNEE WILL BOW

Anti Christian forces are at work in our world to try to remove God from everything. Some are trying to rewrite the Bible or get rid of it altogether. But guess what?  God has the final word and in my Bible it says "Every knee will bow".

A human leader may become tyrannical and try to act like God but He is not God and in the end God has the final say. We in the United States have a government based upon the word of God although forces are at work to reeducate children trying to take away this religious heritage. Evil is out there and evil does not like our God given freedom. Galatians 5:1 says "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Human leaders can lie and twist scripture to trick and deceive people. This displeases our heavenly Father and He wins in the end anyway! Deception is a tool of the enemy. John 8:36 says "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." Our freedom is God given and it is only mere man who tries to lord over us and remove our freedoms.

Guess what? God is still in charge and firmly on the throne and He does not like it when people try to remove Him from His own creation and change the Holy scriptures to try to justify government programs and sin. Not a good thing to do. Mankind may think they are all powerful but God is the one who gives power and He does not like it when the power is used to put people in bondage. Don't be messing with God. He is way more powerful than the great and powerful Oz everyone feared in the Hollywood Movie 'Wizard of Oz'.

There is a definite attack against Christians and morality today. We have strayed a long way from the days of our Founding Fathers. The Separation of church and state clause in the Constitution was meant to protect the state from infringing upon the church but now it is being reversed to use against people of faith. Atheist groups come into communities and try to say you can not say a prayer at a football game. It is time for God's people to not take this freedom for granted and to be in prayer for this great nation so it does not fall into tyranny.

 It is like the frog in the pot of water where the heat is slowly turned up til it dies. That is what is happening in America. Many do not want to believe it or do not have time to deal with it or say "I do not get involved in politics." Complacency is just what the enemy wants to happen. He wants lethargic busy Christians who are blinded to the truth to do nothing. This is not about a Republican, Democrat, or Independent but about following truth and righteousness. Do what the Bible says and you will be okay. Many totally ignore God and kick Him right out. Beware, the day is coming when every knee will bow and everyone will have to answer for what they have done. Political correctness has gone haywire and has taken God out of the equation and has edited His word to justify sinful despicable lifestyles and then Christians are called biased and hateful. Imagine that!

Philippians 2:10-11 says " at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth,  and that every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.". Romans 14:11 says "It is written: "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.'"

Man may think he has the final say but God is on the throne.  It is time for  America to wake up and cry out to God to heal this land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says " if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

1 Corinthians 16:13 says "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be men of courage; be strong." Do not lose hope! God has the final say. God will not continue to bless this nation if we continue to ignore Him and his law.

PRAYER: Lord God we need you in our country and in our world. This is your creation and yet man has tried to topple you off your own throne. Father these people who do this need you in their heart. Open blind eyes to see the truth. Bring revival to our land.  Lord thank you for the comfort we have in knowing you are on the throne. Evil may be in our world but you are bigger. I pray that men and women of faith who say they love you wake up and start praying to bring back God to America. In Jesus Name. Amen.

REJECTION


This word alone sounds hurtful and evokes pain for many. Friends reject us, spouses can reject us, bosses can reject us, co workers can reject us. For those who have never felt the sting and pain of rejection,rejoice! It is awful. To be 'put on the shelf' is a hurtful, painful thing. Sometimes you can not get away from the feeling. It takes time for the wound to heal.

The good news is that people may disappoint but God never does. He sticks closer than a brother. There is a verse in Psalm 118:16 that say " The Lord is with me, I will not be afraid,what can man do to me?"  Still humanly it is hard to endure rejection by anyone. It is only with God's help that we can emerge victorious and not be bothered by this and trust God to get you through it.  Romans 8:31 says "if God be for us who can be against us.". Psalm 56:4 tells us " in God whose word I praise, in God I trust. I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me." Proverbs 19:11 says "a man's wisdom gives him patience. It is to his glory to overlook an offense." Luke 6:27 says "love your enemies and do good to those who hate you." Now that is a tall order and only through the power of God's love inside of you are you able to do this supernatural act.

You have to give up thinking you want to get back at someone, and simply pray for them. Matthew 5:44 tells  us to "love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." Remember when Jesus was being crucified upon the cross and he said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do"(Luke 23:34). How many of us could react that way when being hurt or tortured? Not too many. Human nature says "lash back" and God's nature says "love and forgive and move on".

When we go through the 'valleys' in life that make us want to give up God is there to get us back up to the mountain top. Remember he alone will see you through and has a brighter tomorrow waiting.

PRAYER: Father you are my best friend, my comforter, my restorer, my redeemer and I thank you for lifting me up out of the miry pit at times. Thank you for the lessons I learn in the valley that I can learn from to help others who are hurting later. In Jesus name. Amen.

SIMMER DOWN NOW, YOU HEAR!!

Does anyone out there have trouble waiting and being calm? It is easy to get excited about stuff but sometimes we need to 'simmer down now' and be calm and not overreact to things or get excited and impulsive and do or say something we may regret later. Overreacting without thinking, planning or praying can backfire. Acting on something on spur of moment  is not good. For instance in a business deal it is best to not rush to judgment but to get all the facts. When you are buying a house you shop around and not act impulsively or you may make a bad decision. Telemarketers prey on impulsive people who do not think and end up whipping out the plastic and running up bills and spending money they do not have on something they do not need.

Sometimes this rushing into things can take the form not only of signing a contract we have not read thoroughly but it could be in the form of chattering away with our mouth or clicking on those computer keys. Once something is said it is gone forever.

Misunderstandings can occur and hurt feelings and in some cases it takes quite awhile to undo misspoken words. Sometimes the words were spoken with no harm intended but were taken out of context by the receiver. Some people may get angry and not want to forgive a mistake. Those are people I feel sorry for as that is not what God would want. He wants love, restoration, mercy and reconciliation. But he also wants us to be careful with our impatience and flapping tongue which often can be misunderstood or be a perfectly honest totally innocent mistake.

Waiting and patience are keys to having a happy, productive, peaceful, stress and worry free life.  'Jumping the gun' leads to trouble in many areas.

Ecclesiastes 5:2 says "Do not be quick with your mouth, do not be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. God is in heaven and you are on earth, so let your words be few." Proverbs 10:19 says "When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise." Isaiah 40:31 says "but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."Be patient. Hang in there. Hebrews 12:3 says "Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart." Psalm 37:7 tells us "Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes."

Are you able to use the fruit of the spirit of self control to help you wait for things in God's time? If not, call on God as He can heal and deliver.

PRAYER:  Lord at times I get impulsive and impatient and I need to learn to relax, let go, and let you take the controls of my life. Help me slow down and wait for you and be patient when praying to wait for your perfect timing for answers. Help me not be hasty with my mouth as well. Help what I do and say bring glory to you. In Jesus name,amen.

TALKING POSITIVE IS POSITIVELY WONDERFUL

 Is anyone out there a fan of people who constantly are in a negative mood or mindset? I mean nothing they say brings much joy or positive affirmation. At times it makes you want to scream. People who are a certain age, for instance, start saying that they are too old for things. Now that, my friend, is negative talking. You are never too old. Do not talk down to yourself. I have heard stories of people starting many adventures later in life.  Recently there was a story in a paper I read about a lady over 50 being on the top of a water skiing pyramid. If you start in the 'old negative mindset', guess what? You are going to convince yourself by your negativity that you are no good and have nothing left in life to contribute and the enemy loves that.I have met a few flight attendants in my travels over 50 and some started after 50.  Satan  would like you to sit in a rocking chair and feel sorry for yourself. If you are in good health you can do whatever you want. This is only one example of negativity. I am sure you can add to the list. But the point is you have to stay focused on thinking of good things.
 
Philippians 4:8 says "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." Your mind needs to be set on the positive to stay uplifted. Thinking negative defeating thoughts will keep you downtrodden. Look up and rejoice! Philippians 2:5 says "Let this mind be in you which is in Christ Jesus." Christ is not negative. Try to be like Him why don't you.
 
Practice saying the following things out loud and see if you do not feel more positive:
I am redeemed.
I am a child of God.
I am loved by God.
I am special to God.
Jesus will restore the years locust has eaten.
God can and will heal and set me free.
I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
I am valuable to God.
I will resist Satan and he has to leave me alone!!
I do not dread the future for I know God is in charge and has great things in store for me!
I can do what I set my mind to.
 
Are you a half full or a half empty sort of person? Start today to be aware of when you slump into a negative mindset. Do not allow it to happen. You are not here by accident. Start thinking of good things that lift your spirit. Think of dreams you have that are not met. Try to go after some of them. What is stopping you? Do not say you are too old! Stop that negative talk right here and now.
 
It is sort of like the quote in the Hollywood film 'The Help' where the maid said to the  little girl she took care of "You is kind, You is smart, You is important." Not the best English in the world but the thought and meaning is certainly sincere. She was affirming this small child of her value because the childs' own mother neglected to do so. If you have children make sure to tell them daily how you much you love them, that God has a special plan for their life and that they are special.
 
And one more thing. Try smiling. It helps keep things more positive. Do not give the enemy glory by being a sour puss.Psalm 37:4 says "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart."
 
PRAYER: I want to try to stay positive Lord. I know it brings no glory to you nor does god for me when I have wrong thoughts.Help me keep my focus on good  things and on you.I will not allow situations or people to drag me down into their negative pitiful pit.  In Jesus Name. Amen.

CHARGE ON DESPITE SETBACKS


Everyone has gone through something one time or another in their life. No one is perfect. The enemy likes to get us to dwell on our problems and makes us feel at times there is no way God could love us or even people for that matter. If we let our mind fester with these poisonous thoughts then we will be defeated and lose our peace. Keep pursuing Christ.
We are into the 2nd month of a brand new year so make this the time to get serious about letting go of sins that drag you down or wrong thinking that hinders you. When the world runs out God is there. When friends misunderstand you God is there. When you feel like no one cares, God is there. When you feel self pity creeping up, God is there.
Run to Him. He is the God of second chances, third chances and on it goes. Nothing you can do shocks him. He has not said,"This person is a real scum bag and beyond hope. Get them out of my sight!" No He wants sinners to come and sit at His feet. "We all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory." (Romans 3:23) We all have occasionally said the wrong thing and hurt someone or were misunderstood. The people we hurt may not want to forgive but God will always forgive. Let it go and let God heal you from the inside out.

So when life throws you a curve ball, so to speak, you do not quit, you do not run and hide but you pick yourself up and keep going. God can use everything in your life to get you closer to Him. Charge on and keep going. Ask God for help. He will never fail or forsake you. Hebrews 13:5-6 says "Let your conduct be without covetousness, and be content with such things that you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you, nor forsake you,' so that we may boldly say, 'The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do to me."

PRAYER: Lord I thank you that when I fall you are there to pick me up. When the world runs out on me you do not. Thank you for being my forever friend. In Jesus name. Amen.

SIMON SAYS

If we claim to be a Christian we should want to try to be like Christ. We need to be on guard to not get sucked into the cultures way of thinking and doing things. This is not to say you can not have fun and have to go sit in a monastery somewhere but in things we say and do we should try to be Christlike.For instance how many of us have hurt someone with things that we have said that you would never think of saying if Jesus were standing right there? News flash...Jesus is always there. Jesus himself would never say hurtful or rude things to people. We are to strive to be like Him so there is your assignment. Be nice!

To be Christlike we need to be approachable and not so 'holier than thou' which turns people off. There are two extremes. The first is the  being 'baptized in vinegar' where a person can not even seem to crack a smile and is a pretty self righteous person too thinking their way is best or their church knows it all. Next is the person that just goes right on with the flow of the modern culture and uses no discernment in their activities. The first way is extreme in people trying to act  'religious' and better than people  but they  are ineffective witnesses for Him because of their attitude The next scenario is when it is hard to really tell the person is a believer at all because they are really no different than the world. There is a balance.

 We know 'this world' is not our home and we are to be set apart for holiness. If you claim to be a Christian do people even know you are a Christian? Do you try to hide it? Are your actions any different from those who deny Christ? Do you chime right along cussing,drinking, gossiping and doing things you know would bring dishonor upon the name of Christ or do you seek to be his witness where He has placed you?

You know the kids' game called Simon Says where the person says "Simon Says put your hand on your nose" and we are to put our hand on our nose? This goes on until the part with 'Simon Says' is left out and if you still do it then you lose. Jesus is like Simon except bigger, of course. In His word it has allot to say about following Him and being like Him. 1 Corinthians 4:16 says "Therefore I urge you to imitate me". 1 Corinthians 11:1 says "Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ." Philippians 3:17 says "Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern we gave you." Philippians 3:10 says "I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death."

We are in a battle between heaven and hell. Ephesians 6:12 says "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in heavenly places". If we are not on our guard we will believe deceiving voices and get sucked into the schemes of the enemy. Satan himself appears as an angel of light it says in 2 Corinthians 11:14. He is a trickster out to 'take us out' and make us ineffective for kingdom work. Be alert for we are not ignorant to his tactics. Say "Get thee behind me Satan!"

In Mark 4:18-19 it says  pertaining to believers that "Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—thirty, sixty or even a hundred times what was sown.” The enemy does not want you to read the Bible or imitate Christ. In 1 Peter 1:16 it says "For the scriptures says -Be ye holy for I am holy." Pretty clear cut wouldn't you say? Are you trying to conform to the worlds ways more than God's ways? Satan is an enemy of the cross of Christ and he is trying to mess with our minds and make us think bad is good and good is bad. That is why you have to be grounded in the word of God to clearly know the truth.

If you have messed up and gone your own way and know you have done things that displease God and bring discredit to Him and hurt you and your walk with Christ,  the good news is that He is a loving and forgiving God. His arms are wide open waiting for you to come back to Him. He forgives. Psalm 86:5 says "You are forgiving and good, O Lord, abounding in love to all who call to you." John 15:18-19 reminds us "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you."

So it is your choice. Do you do as God says or follow the ways of the world and lies of the enemy?

PRAYER: Father in the things I say and do I want to be conformed to your image. Use me Lord to help draw others closer to you and not further away. Help me light up the world around me with the love of Christ. Forgive me Lord when I have let the worlds ways influence me. In Jesus Name. Amen.

GROWING SPIRITUALLY

We welcomed in a New Year a little over a month ago. A new year is when many people start to think about New Years resolutions. Some people want to lose weight, some to focus on staying positive, some say to read the Bible more. What do you have for your New Years resolution? Did you even make one back on January 1st?

Why not resolve in your heart to grow spiritually and to become more spiritually fit? Not more religious, but closer to God. 'Religion' often turns people off to Jesus and His love. So many legalistic rules that some churches make up cause many people to want nothing to do with 'religion'. I have news for you! I am not talking about being religious but about being in love with Jesus and desiring to know Him better. Sometimes certain churches might scare us away from wanting to get closer to God, which is sad. If you are one of these people who has been turned off by a holier than thou 'churchy experience' that was more strict and condemning than full of grace and love perhaps it is time to find a new church home.

A suggestion would be to start on the casual non denominational level which usually has less man made restrictions that people dislike. If you are reading this and go to a denominational church I am not saying your church is bad but often times the more casual non denominational ones seem to make those seeking to know Christ better more at ease. Make sure they preach the uncompromising word of God and do not change it to fit societal changes and an unBiblical culture.

To grow spiritually you have to read God's word, there is no other way. To grow physically you have to have food and to grow spiritually you have to have God's 'meat' which is the word of God. The Bible is not boring nor is getting closer to God. Perhaps if you are disinterested you have not truly asked God into your heart. 1 Corinthians 1:18 says "the preaching of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."

You can get excited about Jesus and hunger and want to be closer to him in 2012. Stop what you are doing and ask Him to take the controls of your life and be Lord of your life. Once you do this you become a new creature. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says " therefore if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come, the old has gone and the new is here."

Start now by 'thinking' on God's word. Next try to find a good church home to fellowship in. Perhaps find a Bible study with other believers to help disciple you in your new walk. Spend some alone time with God praying or simply talking to Him.

If you are already a believer perhaps you have stagnated and need to be renewed in your mind. Romans 12:2 says "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." You can not grow without spending time with God. How important is being close to Jesus to you?

Start today to grow spiritually. You will feel better for it, I guarantee it.

PRAYER: Lord I want to have you in my life and live for you. Forgive me when I have not spent time with you. I desire to grow spiritually so keep me on this path. In Jesus name. Amen.

CHANGES WILL HAPPEN

The first month of 2012 is behind us and we are now into month number two of the New Year. How are those resolutions coming along?  Many propose to make big changes when the new year rolls around and may for a week or so then fall back into old ways. With a New Year brings new hopes, new possibilities, new weight, you get the idea. Change in and of itself is hard and sometimes not fun. For instance, Facebook decides to change the format for no apparent good reason and now we folks set in our ways of the old way have to learn the new way. I have moved a good deal in my 35 years of marriage due to the military and changing locations can be hard. People change churches. Some folks change friends. Sad to say some folks trade in their spouses for a newer model. Change is part of life. Changes in life are inevitable. At times they are no fun and very hard to adjust to. There are changes in the weather, changes in jobs, friends change, computer programs change, the leaves change colors, and elections bring change of who our leaders are.

One thing that we can count on that never changes is God. He does not wake up in a bad mood. He does not manipulate you with his emotions. He doesn't act nice one day and ugly the next. He does not wake up 'on wrong side of the bed'. He does not have some people he likes more than others or a circle of friends he is close to and forget everyone else. He does not exclude people because they are not well educated or of a certain social stature.

The Bible says in Malachi 3:6 "I am the Lord. I change not."  The word of God never changes nor are we to add to or take away from the Holy Bible to suit our own needs. We are not authorized to edit the Bible. Proverbs 30:5-6 says " The word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. Further in Revelation 22:19 it says "And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book."

Matthew 24:35 says "Heaven  and Earth shall pass away but my words shall not pass away." So try to be like Christ. Do not let people try to guess which personality you will be today. Keep a cool and calm spirit and live like Jesus!

PRAYER: Lord God I thank you that you never change nor do your words change. I desire to try to stay unchangeable in my personality so people can approach me and know the same person is there and not be worried about who they are talking too. I thank you for being totally unchangeable. In Jesus name. Amen!

GOD IS 24/7:UP ALL NIGHT

God never slumbers or sleeps.  24 hours around the clock He is there for us. He does not have business hours. He does not say, "do not bother me I have to go to bed now." No, He is ever present ready to listen to your prayers. He is like a 'spiritual drive thru window'. Come to him all you who are weary. He is there for your every need. He never gets tired and never gets bored with His job. He loves you and is waiting to hear from you.

Psalm 121:3-4 tells us " He will not let your foot slip--he who watches over you will not slumber;indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep." Imagine that! Non stop service from a loving God ready to listen to you and take care of your needs. Your round the clock counselor! Jeremiah 33:3 says "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

At Christmas, well meaning parents who change the meaning of Christmas to honor Santa over baby Jesus, may sing the song "You better watch out you better not cry, better not pout I'm telling you why, Santa Claus is coming to town". It goes on "He sees you when you're sleeping, he knows when you're awake". Say what? I do believe they must mean, Jesus sees you when you are sleeping. That is what I would think you would want to teach children in a Christ centered home. Never mind the Saint Nicholas thing but he is not seeing you 24/7, but God in fact is. So parents there is your challenge for next Christmas.

 In 2 Chronicles 16:9 it says "The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war." I love that picture of his eyes roaming and watching us. Hebrews 4:13 says "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." He knows it all. He is there for you when others may abandon you. Proverbs 15:3 goes on to say "The eyes of the LORD are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good." He is fair. He gives everyone a chance to accept Him into their hearts.

Have you asked Jesus to be Lord of your life? Do you know if you died right now you would be in heaven with Him? If not why not stop right now and say "Lord Jesus I need you. Forgive me of my sins. Forgive me for ignoring you. I want you to come into my heart and create a new clean heart. I want to live for you and serve you and no other." When you pray and accept Christ you will go to heaven. It is not about a church membership or denomination but simply asking Jesus to be Lord of your life. Let Him into your heart today.

PRAYER: Lord I need you every hour and I am thankful you are there for me. Forgive me for the times other things took more priority than serving you and getting to know you better. Thank  you Lord for being there for me around the clock. In Jesus Name. Amen.

BIG RESPONSIBILITY

As a believer we have a huge responsibility to be examples for Jesus Christ where he places us in life. That means even if you are the only one in your office who is a believer you still need to stand up for what is right. Don't hide your light under a basket but shine for Jesus! If you are with people who want to go in a questionable establishment and you know it is not right, you need to dismiss yourself in a kind way. For teens under peer pressure to do wrong, such as stealing a road sign for 'fun' (still a crime) or drinking underage, you need to be firmly grounded and ready to speak up and run from evil. No one is going to make fun of you and if so, so what? There many other examples. Do not be forced or coerced into doing some thing you know is wrong.

2 Corinthians 5:20 says "We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." If you were the United States Ambassador to a foreign nation you would not want to do anything to bring shame upon your country.Likewise as Christians we do not want to bring dishonor upon the body of Christ. Big task,  wouldn't you say? Amos 5:14 says "Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the LORD God of Heaven's Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed."

Ephesians 6:19 says "as for me, that utterance may be given to me, that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel." Our mouth can be our downfall to as we seek to be Christlike and his 'minister' out in the world. If we act so 'holy' then can't get a grip on our mouth and what we say it can backfire on us. James 1:26 says "If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless." Ouch! Our mouth should also be a representative of Jesus Christ. Does it spew forth gossip? Does it rattle on saying meaningless things? Does it hurt people? Does it boast? Does it spread lies?

Remember you may be the only Bible some people ever 'read' so be alert to how you represent Christ.  You are His ambassadors and his missionaries wherever He has you in life. Let your actions and your speech reflect that.

PRAYER: Thank you father for the opportunities you give me to be a witness for you. Forgive me when I mess things up by not watching what I say or do.  Help me be an excellent ambassador for you. In Jesus Name. Amen.
