TURN OFF THE BAD AND TUNE INTO GOD!!

There is much uncertainty today about the future. Many in the United States see the upcoming elections as critical to freedom as we know it. Ultimately we know God is the one who sits on the throne and is in charge of the earth. He does give man free will and sometimes we mess up when we stop listening to Him but He is here to rescue us.
This is a very important election on November 6th  but right now something else captures our attention, as it rightly should, and that is the aftermath of the major storms in the Northeast.  We see what is really important when the winds and waves crash around us. Life, as we know it, comes to a stand still. Airports  shut down that are under water. Structures are destroyed. Electricity is non existent. Trick or treating is not what mattered on Halloween. Transportation comes to a screeching halt. The Northeast certainly received a beating as a result of hurricane Sandy.
When all the chaos and confusion around us seems to take us off course we see what really matters. In order to not be overwhelmed by all the issues of life swirling around us it is necessary to attempt to stay focused on the good. For those families affected by tremendous loss or inconvenience due to Hurricane Sandy it may not be that easy to get your mind on good things. There is a saying "Praise God in the storm" and that is what we have to purpose in our hearts to try to do.
Whether it is an election where freedom teeters in the balance or a devastating natural disaster, life is going to go on and focusing on positive thoughts is key. Let me leave  you with a few Bible verses of hope and encouragement.
Psalm 27:1 The Lord is my light and my salvation of whom shall I fear. The Lord is the strength of my life of who shall I be afraid.
Isaiah 12:2  Behold God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid. For the Lord God Jehovah is my strength and my song!
Matthew 10:31 Don't be afraid for you are of more value than many sparrows.
Psalm 23:1-4 The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the path of righteousness for His names sake. Yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for thou art with me. Your rod and your staff they comfort me.
Psalm 3:6. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side.
Psalm 71:1. In you oh Lord I put my trust. Let me never be put to confusion.
If you can stop now and pray and repeat these verses OUT LOUD it should help to still your restless, anxious heart.
PRAYER: Father we are not in control of our lives. You have a plan for us. Bad things sometimes happen in the world but we bounce back with your help. There are those who have suffered tremendous losses in their lives. Comfort them today. Use me Lord in your kingdom to help bring comfort and joy to the scared and hurting. In Jesus name. Amen.

NOTE: I apologize for the lateness of this devotion today. My home phone line and DSL are out so I am at the Redstone Arsenal Library using their computer. Thanks for your understanding and patience. -

  1. Thank you for stating it as you did.
This is a very tender statement for me. A very close friend has been in and out of the hospital for three times in the past 51 days. Her husband stays by her bedside. Between hospital admissions, she's been receiving therapy in nursing home settings.
