PRAY FOR GOD TO GUIDE YOU BUT THEN GET OFF THE COUCH

How many of us  pray for God to direct our steps and show us what he wants us to do? There is a key ingredient missing. You have to get up off the couch. You can pray all  you want but you have to set things in motion and take some action. Just like the person who intends to get fit. You can talk about it all  you want but until you go to the gym and start being proactive nothing will change. You can say "God show me". He may put all kinds of hints in front of you but you do not pick up on them. Decide what it is you want to do to help someone and then just do it.

Hebrews 10:24-25 says "Let us consider how to inspire each other to greater love and to righteous deeds, not forgetting to gather as a community, as some have forgotten, but encouraging each other, especially as the day of His return approaches." Has a friend mentioned something they think they would like to do such as help in a nursing home, feed the poor,  or tutor children for instance? Encourage friends and family when they are trying to stir up the gift of God inside of them. 2 Timothy 1:6 says "For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands."

The church, not the government, should be the ones to take care of the needy. Psalm 82:3 says "Defend the weak and the fatherless;
uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed." The government tries to come in an replace something we as believers should be doing. That is not the governments job. We have been led to believe it is.

God has given us each gifts to help others. When you do it do not act haughty and show off. 2 Corinthians 3:5 says "Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God." Remember to give God the glory for all things. 1 Peter 4:10-11 says "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever."

Isaiah 6:8 says "Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am I. Send me!" Do not wait on others to always do the helping when it is within your means to help. Find a way to minister and go do something for the kingdom of God. Do not do it to prove anything or show off. God knows. That is all that matters.

PRAYER: Father get me up off the couch and stirred up to go into the world or in my own community and find a need and meet it. Help me not just pray but to do something. In Jesus Name. Amen.
