JUNE IS THE MONTH OF LOVE

JUNE IS THE MONTH OF LOVE

Traditionally you hear of lots of weddings in June. What better time to go over a couple points in the Bible that if followed by both bride and groom would help them be in love forever and not fight and keep each other first, after God of course. Maybe we could call this list the 'Ten Commandments For Maintaining The Tingles Of Love.'

I recall when our youngest son was small he would tell us he loved us 'one less than God'. From the mouth of babes, right? If we could only maintain that innocence and first love aura and excitement! If the word of God is followed on a regular basis, you can! But when self gets in the way and you take God off the throne then chaos is the result.

The following are ten principles for maintaining love.

Put the other person first.
Always speak with respect and kindness.
Remember how you fell in love.
Keep doing special things and planning surprises.
Pray together.
Do not be self centered. Forgive and forget.
Keep laughing.
Keep going on dates.
Maintain a close relationship with the Lord.
Do not try to get your way.

Of course there are many things that could be added to this list. But the point is in a nutshell is to put God first and then the other person.

1 Corinthians 13 is always an excellent chapter in the Bible to review about what real love is. You may not always 'feel' in love but love is still going to be there when you walk with God and follow his ways and his plan for marriage.  Ask yourself, "is how I am acting Christlike?" Honestly answer that. Satan will fill your mind with lies and try to get you to be self centered but resist him. James 4:7 says "submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."  Also remember the tone of your voice when speaking to your beloved and the verse in Proverbs 15:1 says "A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare."

Enjoy the journey. God said it is not good for man to be alone so He made a helper suitable for Him. ( See Genesis 2:18). Be thankful and celebrate each other and even the differences you may have.

PRAYER: Thanks Lord for your perfect love. Thank you that you want to be our first love. Help me father as I seek to love like you want me to love. The worlds' definition of love is messed up and can mess with our minds. Thank you that you show us the way and direct our paths. In Jesus name, amen!
