FESS UP

Romans 14:12 says "So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. " Everything we do and say the Lord knows. Every careless word we utter. Matthew 12:36 says "But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken." Ouch. Better watch what that mouth of yours spews forth. Every bad action we engage in is also known to God. Nothing is hidden from Him. It is there and the Lord sees it. We try to brush our sins under the carpet but God knows about them all. It says in Scripture in Numbers 32:23 "Be sure your sins will find you out." And they will. As the song goes, 'be careful little mouth what you say..".

Ever try to hide something from someone or get a little sneaky? It just is not a good idea. The best policy is to be open and honest up front at all times. Then you do not have to dig yourself out of a hole or have a breach in trust in a cherished relationship.  When we tell what we call a 'white lie' or a 'half truth' it is still a lie. It is better to be honest and open anyway then you do not lose trust with the person you are close too.

Luke 18:7 says "For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open." When there are these famous people who have extra marital affairs that go on for years and all of a sudden their infidelity is front page news it is obvious that it can not be hidden. Wrong will come out in the open eventually. The truth always wins and the truth will always set you free.

Exodus 20:16 is one of the Ten Commandments and it clearly says "Thou shalt not lie!'. Seems like we should pass that one on to a few of our government leaders these days, not mentioning any names of course. God does not like a lying tongue. Proverbs 26:28 says "A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin." In fact in scripture it is one of the 7 things he says God HATES. Proverbs 6:16-19 says "There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers." There you have it. Pretty cut and dried I would say.

So how are you on the truth meter? Luke 16:10 says "Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much". If we are to be Christlike in all areas of life that includes being truthful and honest. Lies are never a good thing. Proverbs 11:3 says "Honesty guides good people; dishonesty destroys treacherous people." Proverbs 12:22 says "The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy." Strive to be the honorable person the Lord wants you to be and make it a point in all areas of life to be truthful and full of integrity.

PRAYER: Father it is my desire to please you in what I say and do. I never want to bring dishonor to the body of Christ or my family. Help me if ever tempted to lie to say "satan get behind me". Help me to be truthful in every area of my life. In Jesus Name. Amen.
