PGF

When our children were little one of the Christian childrens' shows they watched on TV, I believe it was called 'Joy Junction' ,used to remind the children at the end of each episode to 'Put God First!' What exactly does it mean to put God first?

In your life you should have priorities for what you want to do. We make lists of things we have to get done for the day. The list for a Christian should include 'spend time with God." Now this can be as simple as sitting down with your Bible and reading, praying, or watching a favorite Christian TV show or listening to a sermon on the radio. But we should definitely make it a priority if you claim Jesus is number one in your life.

It is easy to go about your day and squeeze God out of it. Other things get in the way like housework, a favorite television show, time with friends, vacation, talking on the phone, going to the gym, and going to work. Sure we have to go to work as it takes money to live on and we need to get to the gym to keep our physical bodies in shape. Friends are important too. But 'where your treasure is there will your heart be also'.(Read Luke 12:34). When a couple is dating and in love they want to spend time together as much as possible. We are to love Jesus too and want to spend time with him. How do you truly get to know someone unless you spend time with them. It is that way with friends. If you want to be a friend you have to show yourself friendly, the saying goes. You do not get to know your friend on an intimate level unless you share time together.

God is like that. He wants you to get to know him and have knowledge of his word, The Bible. The Bible is our guidebook for life. It is  our instruction manual so to speak. When we get a  new car we have a manual to show us all about it. Well the Bible is the manual to help us know about Jesus and to give us encouragement to get through the joys and sorrows of life.

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' (Matthew 22:37)

PRAYER: Thank you Lord for loving us even when we ignore you and 'put you on the shelf' so to speak. Give us a hunger for the word of God and help us not be distracted by other things before we spend time at you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
