BOLL WEEVILS GOT YOU DOWN?

Back in 1982-84 our family lived in Enterprise,Alabama which to my knowledge is the only town in the United States boasting a statue in the town square to an insect!  Yes you read correctly. A statue to the boll weevil proudly held up in the square to honor this bug.  Some of you who have never been to the South and tend to stereotype us all down here as a bunch of hicks need to know the story. This little insect destroyed the cotton crop back in 1910-1915 which was the main source of revenue for this area. It was total destruction and the townspeople did not know how they would  recover. One farmer suggested they diversify and try growing peanuts. The story goes that he was laughed at but that is what they did. This crop proved to be much better for the economy than cotton ever had been so to thank the bug who brought it all about they erected a statue in it's honor in 1919.  Now you know ..'the
rest of the story'.
In life sometimes you get thrown a set back or a curve ball. Perhaps it is a lost job, a lost friend, a sickness that keeps you laid up for
a while or a host of other things. God knows ahead of time his plan for you and sometimes these seemingly bad things work out so much better than what we would have planned for ourselves.  Romans 8:28 is a familiar and favorite verse and it says "all things work together for the good to those who love the Lord and are called according to his purpose."  I am thinking of the story of a man who was put out of the Army during the RIF also known as reduction in force. This set back is devastating to anyone. Your dream to stay in and make it a career and all of a sudden this is shattered.  In this man's case it turned out good as he ended up in a different job and was somewhere being trained out of state and it was there he met his future wife. I can think of lots of stories like this some involving my own family but you get the point.
So do not say "why God why" but instead try to ask the Lord what it is in this "human setback" that you are supposed to learn and grow from. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct your paths."  Proverbs 3:5-6
PRAYER: Father help me to know that whatever happens in life I know you are in control and will work things out for my good. When you close a door you will open a window. I thank you that we can trust you no matters what happens for your plan is perfect. In Jesus name amen.
